‘Do You Support A Casino At Lake Of The Ozarks?’ Investors Hope To Gather 200000 Signatures – Lake Expo

If youre out-and-about in Missouri communities over the next few months, you may be met by someone asking if youre in support of a state-regulated casino at Lake of the Ozarks.

Osage River Gaming & Convention (ORGC), the investor group behind the petition, hopes to gain enough signatures to get the question on this Novembers ballot.

They have until mid-April.

The ballot question would ask Missourians whether they would like to change the state constitution to allow a casino on the Osage River, to add an additional (14th) gaming license to the current number of 13 set by state statute, and to earmark state tax revenues from that casino for teachers salaries.

If the election were today, would you vote to change the Missouri Constitution to allow the construction of a state-regulated casino on the Osage River? (State tax revenue from that casino would be put toward teachers' salaries.)

ORGC says their polling along with polling conducted nationally by Ballys, the gaming corporation with whom they hope to partner on a casino indicates the amendment will easily pass. The plan gained the City of Lake Ozarks blessing in December, and immediately afterward, the group went to work on the CIP.

Andy Prewitt, a member of the ORGC investor group, explained the petition needs about 173,000 verified signatures to clear the CIP process; theyre aiming to gather more than 200,000, to be safe.

Its ramping up, he said, noting the group has opened offices in Missouris four largest cities St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia, and Springfield. The effort will commission around 100 individuals to gather signatures across 6 of Missouris 8 congressional districts, including the Lake of the Ozarks area. Theyll be hitting the streets daily and will be canvassing major events like the Kansas City Chiefs Wild Card game this Saturday.

Prewitt said he and his wife will be there too.

I screwed up and bought tickets, he said, laughing. Its supposed to be -8 windchill.

When he and thousands of others are walking into the entry gates, theyll likely be met by workers gathering signatures. Its safe to say hell be adding his name to the list.
