New series of weather warnings issued as Storm Eunice continues to hit – Sunday World

A series of new weather warnings issued earlier today would appear to indicate that the county has not escaped the last blasts of Storm Eunice.

he storm, which caused devastation across the country and claimed at least one life, is yet to blow itself out with fresh forecasts predicting high winds and heavy rain from early tomorrow and into Monday.

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow - Rain warning for Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo that states that persistent rain followed by heavy showers will lead to localised flooding in places.

The warning that kicks in at 6pm today will remain in place until 6pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow Wind warning for Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Donegal and Connacht predicts very strong southwesterly winds and some severe gusts on Sunday morning.

These will veer west to northwest on Sunday afternoon and through to early Monday morning.

Strong winds, surge and phenomenal waves may lead to wave overtopping particularly at times of high water, and coastal flooding is possible along coasts, Met Eireann said.

A separate Status Yellow wind warning for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Tipperary and Waterford has been issued for 11am on Sunday and will remain in place until 9am on Monday.

A Status Orange wind warning for Donegal predicts severe west to northwest winds with some damaging gusts possible on Sunday night.

Met Eireann said that after a wet night with widespread outbreaks of rain, tomorrow will be very windy and wet with strong to near gale force southwest winds and some severe gusts.

Rain will be heavy at times leading to localised flooding, before clearing southeastwards to frequent showers through the afternoon, Met Eireann stated.

Some of the showers will be heavy with isolated thunderstorms and hail is possible.

During the afternoon winds will veer west to northwest and they will be persistent strong to near gale force winds, with severe gusts especially along western and northern coasts, with very high seas also leading to some coastal flooding.

Sunday night will remain very windy with strong gusts in the west and northwest, and scattered showers, some heavy with hail, will be most frequent in the northwest with limited clear spells.

It will be another windy to start on Monday with strong northwest winds, however, winds will ease through the afternoon as they begin to back southwesterly.

It will be a wet start to Tuesday with lingering rain quickly clearing eastwards as scattered showers and sunny spells develop, while Wednesday will be another windy day with fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds.

Meanwhile, Carlow Weather has tweeted: The next storm on latest charts here and name or no name it doesnt look good.

Winds picking up tomorrow and staying strong through tomorrow night before peaking then early Monday morning. Anything that has come loose after recent storms could be finished off by this one.
