The Mud 'N' Tars Motorcycle Club's annual Poker Run has smashed its fundraising record, collecting more than $16,000 for the Fleurieu Cancer Support Foundation (FCSF).

The Poker Run sees primarily local motorcyclists head out on a tour of the Fleurieu Peninsula to raise money for the volunteer group that helps people on their cancer journey.

A group of 54 riders started the ride early on Saturday morning, November 13, riding more than 400 kilometres around the region before finishing up at the Royal Family Hotel at Port Elliot.

Last year, the club raised $15,000 for FCSF, but this year the total raised sits at $16,725 - an impressive effort considering the group was smaller than usual.

Sponsorship co-ordinator Vlasta Krejcir said funds were raised for FCSF through raffles, donations, and T-shirt sponsorships and sales.

"It's a good day out for everybody, you feel good doing it," he said.

He said a few members of the club have had relatives affected by cancer, so it was a great cause to support.

"What they (FCSF) do is pretty amazing, and they don't get paid for it, they don't get funding," he said.

"They're stoked and over the moon - they're looking at upgrading their car, they've got a car that's clocked up so many kilometres driving people to Adelaide and back for treatment."
