Fast food linked to severity of asthma, eczema and rhinitis in kids
From New Zealand -- According to research published in Thorax, a diet high in fast food is associated with asthma and eczema severity in children. Researchers reviewed data on over 300000 children ages 13-14 from 51 countries, as well as over 180000 children ages 6-7 from 31 countries. Children were asked about any symptoms of asthma, rhinitis and eczema they may have experienced as well as their weekly diet. After controlling for risk factors, results showed that fast food was the only type of food that was linked to severity of the allergic symptoms. In particular, they found that three or more weekly servings of fast food raised risk of severe asthma by 39% among teens and 27% in the children.
