UNCASVILLE, Conn. Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, owner of Mohegan Sun and other casinos, announced Wednesday what it called its iGaming division, Mohegan Digital, now that online gambling and sport betting are legal in Connecticut.

The company also said Wednesday that it has appointed Rich Roberts as president and Aviram Alroy as vice president of product.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signed legislation at the end of May allowing the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes and the Connecticut Lottery Corp. to offer online gaming and sports betting.

Its competition from Connecticut, and elsewhere, thats driving debate on sports betting legislation in Massachusetts. The Connecticut legislation would allow for a sports book as close as the Bobby Vs Restaurant and Sports Bar near Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Massachusetts lawmakers have warned.

Weve consistently seen strong growth in digital gaming across our properties, especially in this past year, and as legal sports betting continues to expand in the U.S., the timing was right for us to launch Mohegan Digital, Ray Pineault, president and CEO of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, said in a statement.

Over the years, Mohegan has made great technological advancements in the digital space, working with industry-leading partners to provide state-of-the-art advancements to casino and sportsbook online operations, Pineault said. With Mohegan Digital, we are looking to expand and enhance these efforts to elevate the experience and deliver on our promise to provide world-class entertainment for our guests on a digital scale.

Mohegan said it plans to enter the markets in Connecticut as well as Washington and Pennsylvania and the province of Ontario, Canada.
