JJ McCarthy and Katya Kuropas have made their move to the NFL official by doing what any rich person would do: jet off to an island and soak in the sun while basking in your newfound wealth.

I'll never get to experience that feeling. You probably won't, either. But JJ and the new First Lady of Minnesota, OutKick OG Katya Kuropas, are currently going through it in the Bahamas as they gear up for OTAs in a few weeks.

I think I'm slowly starting to turn into a huge JJ McCarthy fan.

I didn't think he was anything special in college, all the way up until he won a national title. Even then, I wasn't really convinced.

That Michigan team was loaded, had an insane defense, and just ran through the entire country. JJ made a few nice plays every game, especially with his feet, and that was enough.

But jetting off to the Bahamas with your smokeshow fiance and just weirdly holding a flamingo because it's funny? I can 100% get behind that dude.

The Netherlands is bringing three runners from their World champion teams in Budapest and Glasgow to The Bahamas, with Bol, Lieke Klaver and Cathelijn Peeters. The fourth leg is a bit of a question mark for the Dutch team heading into this weekend, as neither Evaline Saalberg (Budapest) nor Lisanne de Witte (Glasgow) will be making the trip, and theres a steep drop off in times behind those two. But that may not matter in the long run, because a bigger deficit going into the anchor leg just means there's more magic for Femke Bol to make. The Dutch superstar has only raced once outdoors so far this season in a glorified showcase last weekend in the nearby island nation of Curaao, so this will basically be her true season debut as she gears up to try and win her first Olympic title later this summer.

The Jamaican team will only have one runner from their silver medal winning squad from Budapest in Nassau, but they should still be strong contenders to get on the podium. Janieve Russell, Charokee Young, Roneisha McGregor and Junelle Bromfield have all run comfortably under 51 seconds in their careers. Great Britain, bronze medallists in Glasgow, Budapest, Eugene in 2022, and the 2021 World Relays, will have their most consistent trio of Laviai Nielsen, Ama Pipi and Nicole Yeargin running this weekend.

Poland, the reigning World Relays silver medallist, and Ireland are two teams that have the potential to get into medal conversation, but both of their hopes hinge on a remarkable showing from their strongest runners. For Poland thats the silver medallist in the 400m from Budapest, Natalia Kaczmarek, and for Ireland thats national record holder Rhasidat Adeleke. Adeleke has been working on her speed, with a big win in the 100m last weekend over training partners Dina Asher-Smith and Julien Alfred, but shes yet to run an open 400m this season.

Mixed 4x400m: Return of Bahamass Biggest Stars

The favorite for the first final of the meet has to be the host nation. The Bahamian squad has maybe the best 1-2 punch out of any nation in any event this weekend, with the 6th-fastest man all-time over 400m Steven Gardiner and the 6th-fastest woman all-time over 400m Shaunae Miller-Uibo. Both have had strong starts to their Olympic title defense campaigns after missing some time over the last few seasons and look poised to take gold on their home turf, just like they did in 2017.

Always a strong contender in this event, the team from the Dominican Republic is led by reigning 400m World champion Marileidy Paulino. After not getting the chance to defend their World title from Eugene last August, the Dominicans will be hungry to upset their Caribbean rivals. The strongest male leg on the team will most likely be 200m national record holder Alexander Ogando.

The US womens 4x400m squad will be hoping that a return to Nassau for the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 will be a lucky omen.

For the first three editions of this competition all of which were held in the Bahamian capital USA won the womens 4x400m. But ever since the event has moved out of the Caribbean, the womens 4x400m title has been won by other nations.

In 2021 a year in which USA and Jamaica opted not to send a team Cuba was the surprising victor, finishing just ahead of Poland and Great Britain & Northern Ireland.

Normal order was restored soon after, with USA winning Olympic gold later that year and then winning world gold in 2022. But its the Netherlands who head to Nassau as the reigning world championships indoors and out, following their victories in Budapest in 2023 and Glasgow in 2024.

Granted, their World Championships victory last year came after the USA was disqualified for a baton exchange that occurred outside the zone. But the Dutch squad triumphed again at this years World Championships, beating the USA fair and square.

Femke Bol and Lieke Klaver, the world indoor 400m gold and silver medallists respectively, always pack a powerful punch for the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Alexis Holmes who anchored the USA to mixed 4x400m victory in Budapest just moments after Bol fell is the standout performer on the USA womens 4x400m team.

Jamaica is the only team to have reached the podium in this event at the past three outdoor global championships, so they cannot be overlooked. Great Britain & Northern Ireland, meanwhile, have earned three global bronze medals in the past two years, so will also be keen to challenge again.

World 400m silver medallist Natalia Kaczmarek and 2018 European champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic feature on Polands team, but both have also been selected for the mixed event.

Canada has been quietly consistent in recent years, placing fourth at the past three global championships. Although theyve missed out on medals, they consistently outperform their pre-event form on paper.

Belgium has been creeping ever closer to a global championships podium finish, placing seventh at the Tokyo Olympics, sixth at the 2022 World Championships, fifth at the 2023 edition, and fourth at the recent World Indoor Championships.

Other teams to look out for include African Games champions Nigeria, France and India.

USA's Paris Olympics Tickets Almost Snatched Away From Men's 4x400m Team After Suffering DQ at Bahamas Relays - EssentiallySports

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. Tropic Ocean Airways is planning to launch flights between Palm Beach International Airport and Abaco, Bahamas, on Wednesday.

The Fort Lauderdale-based airline, which provides charter service, will fly out of Palm Beach Atlantic Aviation at PBIA and Marsh Harbour Cherokee Aviation.

The company was founded in 2009 by former U.S. Navy fighter pilot Rob Ceravolo.

Tropic Ocean Airways offers private charter and scheduled flights across Florida, the Bahamas and the Hamptons in New York. Service is also from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with a seaplane operation in Miami to South Bimini Airport.

"Weve noticed the trend of South Florida residents moving north to Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast and are excited to introduce scheduled flights between Palm Beach and Marsh Harbour," Ceravolo, the CEO, said in a news release. "Expanding our operations to Palm Beach is a natural progression for us, and we are looking forward to providing travelers in this region with the same exceptional service and convenience that our passengers in Fort Lauderdale and Miami have received for the last 13 years."

The airline is operating five years after Hurricane Dorian flattened much of the Abaco in September 2019.

Tropic Ocean has a fleet of 14 late-model Cessna Grand Caravan EXs, seating eight or nine, and operates with two pilots. The airline also flies seaplanes out of Miami.

The new route will operate two times a week on Thursdays and Sundays, and plans to increase the frequency and introduce additional routes from PBIA "in the coming months," according to the news release.

Prices range from $237 to $450 per seat with access to a private lounge, free parking at Atlantic Aviation and a baggage allowance of 50 per person per person.

Forty teams secured automatic qualification to the Paris Olympics by finishing in the top two of their respective heats. In contrast, others have taken the longer route and will be banking on making the cut on the second day.

With the supremely talented Femke Bol on the anchor leg, the Netherlands got things rolling in the 4x400m mixed relay, setting a championship record of 3:12.16. The win secured automatic qualification to the Paris Olympics for the Netherlands. The Dominican Republic finished second in 3:14.39 to punch their ticket for Paris. However, it took a herculean effort from world champion Marileidy Paulino, who ran the fastest split on the night (48.93), to pull the Dominican Republic team from the point of no return to second on the last leg.

Interestingly, the Dutch teams record only lasted a few minutes as Team USA chopped off a good chunk, revising it to 3:11.52 in the following heat. Nigeria, with the impressive Chide Okezie, who had a 44.78-second split on the third leg, finished runner-up in 3:13.79.

Multiple world champion Noah Lyles led a dominant-looking USA team to a world-leading 37.49 seconds in the mens 4x100m. Lyles, who clocked 8.95 seconds on anchor, was supported by Courtney Lindsey (10.32), Kenneth Bednarek (8.91) and Kyree King (9.31). Reigning Olympic champions, Italy, with a fit-looking Lamont Marcell Jacobs in their midst, was second in a seasons best 38.14 seconds.

Andre DeGrasse steered Canada home in heat three in a seasons best 38.11 seconds. Behind him, a fierce battle ensued for second spot with Thailand, Australia and Jamaica. The promising Sandrey Davision of Jamaica produced the race of his life to edge his Australian rival in a photo finish at the tape. Jamaica and Australia were credited with 38.50, with Jamaica getting the nod by four thousandths of a second (.492 to .496). Interestingly, this was Jamaicas first and only top-two finish on the night.

In the womens 4x100m relay qualification, Team USA, Poland, Germany and Great Britain/Northern Ireland cruised through their respective heats with impressive wins. On the contrary, the host nation, the Bahamas, and her Caribbean counterparts, Trinidad and Tobago and Olympic champions Jamaica, struggled with team chemistry and baton exchanges. They must improve significantly on the second day to restore confidence in their supporters.

Ireland was the fastest qualifier in the womens 4x400m after registering a national record of 3:24.38. They were followed by the United States and Great Britain/Northern Ireland, who finished inside 3:25.00. The Polish team looked well-polished while cruising to victory in their heat, and a competitive final is predicted on day two.

The mens 4x400m relay produced some drama. Team USA, which crossed the finish line first in heat one, was disqualified under World Athletics relay race rule DQ TR24.20. Team USA was in third position with 200m to go on the second leg; however, when the runners entered the home straight, the third leg runner for USA, Champion Allison, moved over in lane one to collect the baton, which brought about the disqualification and victory to Japan in 3:00.98.

Botswana showed their pedigree as they were the only team to break 3 minutes legally, and they did so with the help of the prodigiously talented Letsile Tebogo. The young Botswana athlete showed his vast range on the second leg after collecting the baton in seventh position. Tebogo motored around the field like a Leyland Truck, reeling his rivals and led until the closing moments of handing over. Tebogos split was clocked at 43.49 seconds.

The excitement was just getting started as spectators witnessed an exhilarating battle between South Africa and Botswana on the final leg. South Africa had the lead through 2022 World U20 400m hurdles champion Lythe Pillay, who was saddled with the responsibility of keeping current world leader Bayapo Ndori at bay. Ndori tracked Pillay like a seasoned hunter, and Pillay was likewise an elusive prey. Both men flicked a switch and barreled towards the finish line like a train without brakes with 50m to go. It was anybodys race up to that point, but Ndoris courage and tenacity pulled him through. Botswana won by a whisker in 2:59.73, with South Africa 0.03 seconds behind.

It was a fitting finale to bring the curtains down on an enthralling night of action.

In the latest episode of the World Athletics Inside Track Podcast, released today (5 May), Sanya Richards-Ross, Kelly Sotherton and Richard Kilty share a packed podcast with athletics legend Carl Lewis, world record-holder and hometown sensation Devynne Charlton and Kiltys Great Britain 4x100m teammate Zharnel Hughes to recap day one of the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24.

Richards-Ross and Sotherton shared their thoughts and shock at some of the results from day one, with Richards-Ross highlighting the non-direct qualification of a womens team from the Caribbean for the 4x100m, with favourites Jamaica finishing fifth in their heat. They will have another opportunity to race for a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Sunday.

First up was Lewis who expressed his happiness at being in attendance, stating these World Relays are more of a semifinal than a showcase event.

Its an Olympic year. I think the event is a good thing, he said Theyre getting more exposure, and the event means something.

Lewis added that he was pleased to see notable names turn out to compete in the relay qualifications for Paris 2024.

Its fun to watch from an American perspective, how they (coaches) run their teams, because a lot of the time we get those legs mixed up, he said. Ill be happy to see people that are committed to helping the American experience better.

Kilty, who has been a host on Inside Track, was joined by Hughes after they qualified for the mens 4x100m in Paris, with Hughes saying Great Britains focus was to secure the bag.

We have to book the ticket to be in Paris, he added. Nevertheless, who didnt show up, we had to, and we did, were off to Paris.

Hughes trains in Jamaica under Usain Bolts former coach Glen Mills and is looking forward to doing the double (100m and 200m) in Paris.

Im happy and excited to get out there and start running, he said. I know come Paris, Ill be in the best shape I can be.

Rounding off the star-studded line-up was local favourite and world indoor 60m hurdles record-holder Charlton, who praised the home crowd for packing the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.

I havent seen the stadium packed like this in years, she said. To have the relays in The Bahamas again is special to Bahamians. For us to host these games again, Bahamians are really excited, relays are what we do.

Charlton, who is known for her individual accomplishments, also spoke about the expectations of being part of a relay team.

Being part of a team is more pressure for me, she said. I know once I step on the track (in an individual race) no one is depending on me to have a good race. But when you step on the track (in a relay) its like youre doing it for three other people and you want to be as good as possible for them.

World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 action continues on Sunday with teams battling it out in the finals to secure lane placements in Paris. Teams that did not earn automatic qualification will have a second chance in the repechage to secure their countries a place in Paris 2024.
