Posted: at 3:03 am
Following an emotional official opening ceremony on Saturday, the Taipei Dome will host the XXX BFA Asian Championship, which is set to begin on Sunday, 3 December, at 18:00 local time. The Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) will host the tournament for the 10th time.
The hosts and defending champions world No. 5 Chinese Taipei will face No. 4 Korea. The game is already sold out.
Chinese Taipei picked one of the rising stars of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) Jo-Hsi Hsu of the Weichuan Dragons. The team relies on a solid pitching staff and the line-up can guarantee power and speed. According to local press, the hosts lack international experience at catcher.
Heon-Min Shin (SSG Landers) is expected to start for Korea on the opening night. Shin was the 2nd overall pick in 2022 KBO draft and made 11 appearances, all from the bullpen, in the 2023 season with 6.00 ERA. Chinese Taipei manager Kuo-Lee said, We anticipated that he is going to start against us.
Despite averaging 21.2 years, the Korean roster showcases impressive talent. Byeong-Hyeon Jo collected 17 KBO saves for the SSG Landers. Corner infielder Seung-Yeup Na finished the KBO season with a .312 batting average. First baseman Beom-Seok Kim (LG Twins) and outfielder Jun-Young Jeong (KT Wizards) played for the U-18 National Team.
Chinese Taipei and Korea will compete in Group A with world No. 37 Hong Kong and No. 55 Palestine. After the opening game, Group A will move to the Taichung Intercontinental Stadium.
World No. 1 Japan is the favourite in Group B. The roster's core played at the Asia Professional Baseball Championship and earned bronze at the Asian Games. Shoichirou Kayo, who won the Asia Games bronze medal game, is the team's ace.
The pitching staff also features players who helped Japan win the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2022, such as hard-throwing pitcher Raiku Katayama, All-World Team designated hitter Ren Onishi and slugger Yuto Hirano. Power-hitting catcher Tatsuya Shirono is also a player to watch.
Japan, who has won the BFA Asia Championship 18 times, plus one (1983) shared with Chinese Taipei and Korea, will face world No. 32 and the winner of the inaugural edition in 1954, the Philippines, No. 43 Thailand, and No. 49 Pakistan. Group B action will begin on Monday, 4 December. The games are scheduled at the Taipei Dome.
The top two finishers of each group will compete in the Super Round on 8 and 9 December. At the end of the Super Round, the first and second-place teams will play for the title and earn a spot in the V WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup. The bronze-medal game between the third and fourth-place finishers will award the third U-23 Baseball World Cup spot. The Taipei Dome will host the Super Round and the finals. The finals are scheduled for Sunday, 10 December.
The BFA Asia Championship will take the number of teams qualified for the V WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup to 11.
Africa (1): Asia (3): The top three finishers of the BFA Asian Baseball Championship Americas (4): No. 6 Venezuela, No. 12 Puerto Rico, No. 13 Colombia, No. 20 Nicaragua Europe (2):No. 7 Netherlands and No. 18 Great Britain Oceania (1): No. 11Australia Wild Card (1): China (Host Nation)

Shiv Khera and the Ultimate Value Test | MorungExpress … – Morung Express
Posted: at 3:02 am
Kedo Peseyie
Shiv Kheras popularity in Nagaland is evident. There are people I know who consider his book You Can Win an indispensable guide in life. Some Christians have even referred to it as their second bible. Even the Government of Nagaland paid him several lakhs of rupees some years back just to hear him harp on his principles, some taken straight from the Bible and others from Hinduism, monism, pantheistic, humanism, and other (God knows from where else) philosophies. A loosely structured network of all of these belief systems is what many people today call The New Age which promises unparalleled spiritual advancement in the spiritual nature of humans, health, stress-free world, ecological balance, a new earth, a new heaven, a new humanity, etc. Shiv Khera is a thoroughly New Age writer.
With due apology and respect to a best selling author such as Shiv Khera, I must say that I have never been attracted to the book You Can Win. Last week out of curiosity I pick up this book in a library and read a chapter on values. I was thoroughly amused, especially with his value test questions. You have to read it yourself to believe it. He calls them the ultimate value test. The first ultimate test is called the Mama Test. Wherever you are or whatever you may be doing, if your values are in question, according to Khera, you must ask yourself the question, If my Mama were to see me doing what I am doing right now, would she be proud of me and say, Attaboy! or would she hang her head in shame? He promises that our values would be clarified rather quickly.
If this Mama Test is not enough, dont fret. There is another ultimate test called the Baba Test. If values are in question again, you can ask yourself the question, If my children were to see me doing what I am doing right now, would I want them to see it, or would I be embarrassed? Again he promises that the clouds would clear very quickly and we would get our answers.
There seem to be nothing seriously wrong with these questions. But to call them ultimate value tests is to say that humans are autonomous in nature with no need for a reference point, namely God. We create our own values, our own meaning and purpose in life, and we create our own realities. I detect in these questions a humanism that totally pushes God out of the picture. In such a picture, humans have the autonomy to decide what is good and bad, right and wrong. And so, many Naga students along with the consent of their Mamas and Babas apply for scholarships with false income certificates because, given the situation, that seems to be the right and acceptable thing to do. And there are many Babas and Mamas who would unscrupulously buy (bribe) a job or a college seat for their children. If individuals are to learn their values from the Babas and Mamas of this materialistic frenzy age, and be held accountable only to them, then I guess You Can Win only means having a Government job, driving cars and building mansions while the poorer sections of the society are being systematically cut off from the privileges of a democracy. (The Ultimate Test: whose Baba and Mama anyway?)
Clearly there are many other religious beliefs and philosophies influencing the New Age writers like Shiv Khera, Deepak Chopra, et al. I am not educated enough to know them and name even a few. But some of them are as follows: monism, pantheism, Hinduism, humanism and even Christianity. A very loosely structured network of these, along with many others, is what people call the New Age Movement.
Scholars say that the New Age movement cannot be defined accurately. But they agree that at its doctrinal core, the New Age movement is Hinduism put in western terminology. C.S. Lewis considered Hinduism and Christianity as the two most advanced religious systems. But the major difference between them is important. Hinduism can accommodate all other religions within it while Christianity, at its purest form, has to exclude all other religions. It does not mean that Christianity is intolerant. It simply means that Christianity is uncompromising in its affirmation that Jesus Christ is the only way that leads to God. The question is: which would you rather believe? One that says all hundred answers could be true, or the one that say that there is only one answer and I know it is true?
Before you call a book your indispensable guide in life and give it the place of the Bible, you must see what the book is all about, what religious philosophy is influencing it and whether it is compatible and healthy to our faith in the Biblical Jesus of orthodox Christianity. (And of course, you are welcome to put the Bible into test too, if you have to.)
Monism: One view that seems to stand out among them is Monism (one-ism). I believe this quote succinctly sum up this view for us, All is one. One is all. All is God. And we are God. Compare this with the famous saying of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Youre God. You know it. Im God. I know it. So let us play. They believe that there is ultimately only one substance and the differences and distinctions we see around us are only illusions. There is no you or me, and there is no distinction between God and me. And therefore, I am God. This is why they talk about concepts like attaining divinity, self-realisation, self-actualisation, self-confidence, positive thinking to counter negative force, inner power, personal transformation, unlimited human potential, etc with gusto and often they are very convincing. And the logical outworking of this view is that a person who says there is no God would still be considered a believer because truth and reality is what we create for ourselves (because we are God).
Pantheism says that God is in everything and everything is in God. The Bible clearly teaches that God is separate from His creations and humans stand above His created things. Genesis 1 tells us that God is not a part of the created things, but He is the one who created all things that exists.
Illusions: Both monism and pantheism lead to the same conclusion: all is God, God is all, we are God, and everything else is an illusion. History is an illusion. Our problems, sin, evil and the Devil are all illusions. But again the Bible clearly mentions the Devil as a real threat and not an illusion. Jesus, in His temptation, spoke with the Devil, was tempted by him, and overcame him. Jesus didnt meditate so that this illusion would go away. He confronted the Devil like we confront a dog chasing our chickens. And we must still do as Jesus did if we want our chickens.
Salvation: In New Age thought there is no heaven to desire and no hell to fear. Salvation for the New Ager is not about being saved from a great danger of eternal death, but it is merely about being rescued from the ignorance of our godhood. They save themselves. The only thing to be done is to look within us and realise our divinity, which, according to them, is the highest form of intelligence.
But the problem is this. Any person who looks within his/her own heart and does not find a thought or a motive which is totally hostile to the notion that we are essentially good and that we are God, is not honest and sincere enough to be divine let alone be called even a small god. For that is the condition of the human heart. Jeremiah called the human heart deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.
Conclusion: These philosophies, neatly disguised in attractive stress-relief courses, yoga and breathing exercises, self-improvement books, and the positive thinking gurus are already creating strongholds in our supposedly 99% Christian state. And mind you they are not illusions. They are not threats. They need Jesus as much as we do. All these are attempts to escape from the craziness of the world. Maybe we can begin by saying that all the craziness in our world are not illusions. They are very, very real. And thats why we need to point them to a greater reality and a greater craziness: the craziness of Jesus Christ on the Cross at Calvary!

Homelessness is the result of liberal policies | READER … – Baltimore Sun
Posted: at 3:01 am
Dear Usha Nellore,
While you have penned an emotional, heartfelt observation (For the rich and politicians, homeless are an inconvenient truth, Nov. 22), you are wrong.
Homelessness is mostly a blue state and blue city problem. And yes, homelessness is largely the result of liberal policies of lawlessness, soft on crime, easy-money government programs, pay-not-to-work handouts, open borders to the indigent of the world the list could go on.
All of our problems are caused by Democratic, blue state, liberal policies. Liberals think endless taxpayer money is the answer to the worlds problems, which may be true, until the money runs out, which is about to happen.
These are the same people that cant grasp the concept of debt, that it incurs interest and has to be paid back. Only Americans who dont pay taxes think higher taxes are the answer. They dont realize the money and benefits given to immigrants living in the U.S. without legal permission is money that could have gone to help Americas homeless, drug addicts and alcoholics.
If you cant see how the last three years of liberal policies in this country and state have ruined a once prosperous nation, then you are not paying attention and will be broad sided by reality when it happens. Its la-la-land blue state liberals that cant see the consequences of their emotional, illogical and destructive policies.
Yes, there is homelessness in red states, but it is because of liberal policies. In order to get liberal policies passed, liberals claim the rich and middle class are heartless and dont care about the homeless. In reality, they care about themselves and their families first, so they dont become homeless. Republicans are not the solution to all of our problems, but Democrats are definitely the source, as these problems are much worse in blue states.
Recently, a rumor of undocumented immigrants being sent to Harford, a red county, and housed in hotels here was dispelled by the Cassilly administration. Red state policy of personal responsibility works best for all. Government does everything poorly.

Illegal migrants land on beach near homes of Hollywood stars – Yahoo News
Posted: at 3:01 am
An incredible video captures the moment a boat full of suspected illegal migrants lands on a beach in Malibu earlier this week close to where many of Hollywoods stars live in their extravagant homes.
The exclusive video, obtained by Fox News Bill Melugin, shows a boat pulling up to a beach at around 1 p.m. on Thursday and then around 25 people can be seen leaping out of the vessel and dashing towards land. The boat is then left abandoned in the water.
Ritzy Malibu is home to countless liberal celebrities such as Barbra Streisand, Leonardo Di Caprio and Cher and is full of high-end luxury homes, many of which are on the waterfront close to where the boat beached.
BARBRA STREISAND BLAMES TRUMP'S 'INCOMPETENCE AND LIES' FOR 20,000 CORONAVIRUS DEATHS IN THE US
Melugin said such a landing, which is a common tactic used by illegal immigrants descending on European countries, is extremely rare given that Malibu is more than 100 miles north of the border. He said it was unclear if anyone was apprehended.
Streisand and Cher have been vocal opponents of former President Donald Trump, and both have vowed to leave the U.S. if he is returned to the presidency.
READ ON THE FOX NEWS APP
Streisand has blasted Trumps border policies in the past and lives in a 19-bedroom clifftop mansion which is believed to be worth $100 million.
It is unclear if she accommodated any desperate migrants coming off the boat.
BARBRA STREISAND GOES AFTER PRESIDENT TRUMP
In 2019, Streisand slammed Trumps plans for a border wall and his tough stance on illegal immigration.
"Trump only cares about this 'wall' in order to build a monument to himself. Just like the bankrupt 'Trump' buildings, the nation cannot afford to pay for his ego not financially, not morally," she wrote on X.
In 2018, Streisand released an album titled "Walls," which was critical of Trumps plan to construct a wall along the southern border.
"We should be building bridges to a better day, where no walls would stand in the way," she sings.
"The only path to a better day would be if all the walls came tumbling down."
It is estimated that 10 million people have entered the U.S. illegally under the Biden administration.

Liberal minister to testify after heated testimony from Mtis, First … – CityNews Toronto
Posted: at 3:01 am
OTTAWA The Liberal minister of Crown-Indigenous relations is defending a bill that would formalize several Mtis self-governance agreements, after more than a month of heated debate between Indigenous leaders at a parliamentary committee.
While the leaders of Mtis groups in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario say the legislation would unlock new opportunities and foster a new relationship with Ottawa, prominent First Nations voices are raising concerns about irreparable damage to treaty rights.
They say that with the bill, the federal government is essentially giving Mtis organizations a blank sheet of paper to write treaties on, with no oversight.
On Thursday, it was Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Gary Anandasangarees turn to take questions at the House of Commons Indigenous and northern affairs committee.
Anandasangaree said Mtis have been fighting for their rights for centuries, and a Liberal government bill aims to address the wrongs of the past.
He stressed that the co-developed piece of legislation is in line with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
It comes in the spirit of reconciliation. It is something weve been working on for many, many years, he said.
Still, First Nations and some Mtis groups are opposed to it.
The Chiefs of Ontario, a group representing the heads of Ontario First Nations, has gone so far as to say that some Mtis communities in that province have no historical basis to exist, and do not meet the legal threshold to be recognized as having rights.
Nipissing First Nation Chief Scott McLeod, a member of that group, told the committee earlier this month that it should remove the Mtis Nation of Ontario from the legislation.
He said Thursday it is not the federal governments job to determine who is or who isnt Indigenous.
But that is exactly what they are doing, he said in a written statement
They are legislating Nations into existence who never existed in our territories, and whose claims to be Indigenous are questionable.
Anandasanagaree and the Mtis Nation of Ontario have both stressed that its membership lists have been vetted by a third party. It removed 6,000 members who they say did not meet membership criteria in June of this year.
The Assembly of First Nations, which represents 630 First Nations across Canada, is calling for the bill to be withdrawn altogether.
The assemblys interim national chief, Joanna Bernard, told the committee on Tuesday that First Nations have raised serious, credible concerns about the potential impacts of Bill C-53 advancing without proper consultation.
The Mtis Nation of Ontario has said the bill is a positive step forward that does nothing to harm other Indigenous groups, arguing that the idea that land and resource rights could be on the table later on is a good thing, despite First Nations opposition to a potential land-based treaty.
Its president, Margaret Froh, told the committee last month that her organization has been working hard to dispel myths and misinformation being spread about the bill.
Anandasangaree mostly reiterated those sentiments during his committee appearance Thursday.
He said Mtis have had to listen to people who are trying to deny their existence, adding he believes the concerns that have been raised are based on misconceptions.
Today, Im here to clear those up, he said.
I urge the members of this committee to come together to recognize that the fight for rights is an important one and one that should be bipartisan.
Other Mtis organizations, including the Manitoba Mtis Federation, the Mtis Nation-Saskatchewan and the Mtis Nation British Columbia, are among those raising concerns about the Ontario group.
But the president of the Mtis National Council, Cassidy Caron, told the committee last week that she supports the bill.
So does Mtis Nation of Alberta president Andrea Sandmaier, who said that failing to pass the bill would hurt Mtis people and the advancement of Indigenous rights across the board.
Amid concerns that the bill could open the door to allowing land or harvesting rights for Mtis, Anandasangaree stressed on Thursday that thats not what the legislation does, though future treaties could be negotiated.
The minister had told The Canadian Press last month that the federal government could enter into treaties with Mtis nations later on, and we will at some point get to that stage. At that time, more consultation would need to take place, he said.
Pressed on Thursday about whether or not future treaties could affect the rights of other Indigenous Peoples, Anandasangaree brought the conversation back to Bill C-53 and its contents.
The minister was asked whether the government bears any responsibility for the animosity between First Nations and Mtis groups.
He said in response that the bill was co-developed with the Mtis nations that it applies to.
He also acknowledged that Canadian governments including his own have reinforced colonialism in the past.
In this particular case? I dont believe so. I believe this is moving forward in the spirit of reconciliation.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 30, 2023.

ABPA responds to the Liberal Governments Announcement of a National Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program – Anishinabek News
Posted: at 3:01 am
ROBINSON-SUPERIOR TREATY AND FORT WILLIAM FIRST NATION TERRITORY, THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (November 22, 2023) This week, the Liberal government announced the next steps for a long-awaited National Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program in the next years federal budget. However, Indigenous leaders are still waiting for details on how the program will work and whether the program would help communities invest in the natural resource sector and facilitate equity ownership in energy, mining, forestry, and other infrastructure projects.
Following is a statement from Jason Rasevych, President of the Anishnawbe Business Professionals Association, regarding the Government of Canadas Economic Statement and commitment to National Loan Guarantee Program for Indigenous peoples:
Indigenous leaders have been calling on this type of program for decades. We have seen some examples in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, but there are some limitations on what type of project can be supported including the amount and timeline. The lessons learned from the successes and challenges of the current state and forecasting the market demand should be part the new program design and seek compliance with Indigenous-led values and the principles of Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canadas Calls to Action. The announcement of a national Indigenous loan guarantee is a positive commitment that protects lenders from potential defaults and derisks the weighted average cost of capital; however, much more needs to be considered on how it prioritizes applications by geography, industry, and deals with jurisdictional dissonance across the provinces permitting regimes. We need to make sure that the human rights risks inflated by financial programs that create a larger gap between the classes of have and have not Nations are minimized and not motivated by a government political agendas. We need the loan guarantee program to enhance and support Indigenous communities looking to participate in various sectors at different financial thresholds of resource development and ownership of enabling infrastructure like corridors and facility ownership. These projects should be assessed to consider respect for the rights-holders throughout the financing and project lifecycle, and that the proponent has achieved the free, prior, informed consent of Indigenous peoples impacted as a condition for approval. If the mandate and decision to provide the loan guarantees is supporting government or partisan plans it will create more friction for Crown-Indigenous relations, especially on how those loan guarantee decisions are being made. Indigenous communities will also need grant funding to develop the business case and economic model for the loan guarantee applications and there should be a mechanism to consider backing Indigenous-owned or operated lenders and financial institutions for a multiplier effect.
In the past, there has been budget allocations to realize Canadas role as a key global supplier of critical minerals for manufacturing electric vehicle batteries, solar panels, and other low-carbon technologies, which suggests dependence on intensive mineral extraction. Given Northern Ontarios forest and mineral abundance, the region has an integral role to play in achieving these aspirations. Resource developers and governments will need to demonstrate understanding of the necessary and pivotal role that First Nations play within this paradigm given their unique rights and land title.
While the announcement could be promising as a path to reconciliation and economic growth through its support of developing strong partnerships with First Nations, success will only be realized through effective roll out and accountability. The federal government will need to demonstrate a well-executed and collaborative approach with First Nations. ABPA stands ready as an advocate for the First Nations business community and will be watching and eager to play a role in ensuring the above outlined programs meet the demands of the North.
The current ABPA Board of Directors include: Jason Rasevych, President, Ginoogaming First Nation Rachael Paquette, Vice-President, Mishkeegogamang First Nation Ron Marano, Vice-President, North Caribou Lake First Nation Jason Thompson, Secretary/Treasurer, Red Rock Indian Band Brian Davey, Director, Moose Cree First Nation Steven McCoy, Director, Garden River First Nation Tony Marinaro, Director, Naicatchewenin First Nation
About the ABPA: The Anishnawbe Business Professional Association (www.anishnawbebusiness.com) is a nonprofit, member-based organization based in Thunder Bay, Ontario. ABPA serves the First Nation business community within the Treaty #3, Treaty#5, Treaty #9 and Robinson Huron and Superior Treaty Areas. The ABPA develops and expresses positions on business issues and other public issues relevant to First Nation business, on behalf of its members. They provide a forum for the First Nation business community to develop policies and programming which contribute to the socio-economic well-being and quality of life of First Nations peoples in Northern Ontario. They also serve non-First Nation businesses by providing information, guidance, and access to a wide-ranging network through events and sponsorship.
