The Middle Ages comprise the period in European history that began with the collapse of Roman civilization in the 5th century CE and lasted until the dawn of the Renaissance in the 13th, 14th, or 15th century. This interval of time saw the development of the Gothic style of art and architecture, flying buttresses and all. It was also the era of the Crusades and of papal monarchy, and it was during this period that the idea of Europe as a distinct cultural unit emerged.

Sen. Rand Paul staffer’s parents speak out after he was ‘brutally …
Posted: at 1:19 am
A staffer for Sen. Rand Paul was stabbed and seriously injured in Washington, D.C., on Saturday and a suspect has since been arrested, police and Paul's office said Monday.
On Wednesday, victim Phillip Todd's parents said in a statement that he was in "stable condition" after surgery and "is expected to make a full recovery due to his young age and good health."
"He was randomly and brutally attacked by a person armed with a knife, who, according to the police report, attempted to kill him. The intervention of our son's friend helped prevent the wounds from being fatal," Chuck and Helen Todd said.
Phillip Todd is the chief economist for Paul on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, on which Paul sits as the ranking member.
Phillip Todd's Leadership Connect profile lists him as having been with Paul's office since 2021.
"This past weekend a member of my staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight," Paul, R-Ky,. said in a statement to ABC News on Monday, adding, "I ask you to join [wife] Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanking the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions."
According to a police report obtained by ABC News, officers first responded Saturday around 5:15 p.m. to a call about a stabbing on the 1300 block of H Street Northeast in the district.
Phillip Todd was treated on the scene for "stab wounds" and was seen by a witness "bleeding from the head," the report states.
According to one of two witnesses cited in the report, the suspect had "popped out of the corner" and stabbed Phillip Todd multiple times as he and the witness were walking. He "was able to grab [the suspect's] arms" and the witness with him tackled the suspect, "leading to a struggle between the parties," the report states. Then, he and the witness ran as the suspect fled.

The first witness shouted to another about what was happening and that person called the authorities while they aided Phillip Todd, according to the report.
On Monday, D.C. police said that 42-year-old Glynn Neal, a D.C. resident, was arrested later on Saturday and had been charged with assault with intent to kill, wielding a knife, in connection with the attack. Court filings state that he has told officers he heard a voice was going to get him before the attack occurred.
Phillip Todd was hospitalized "for treatment of life-threatening injuries," police said on Monday. His parents said in their statement Wednesday that he had "trauma surgery to address the wounds in his body. He also has a fracture on his skull, which will be treated with non-invasive neurosurgery."
Chuck and Helen Todd said they were grateful for Paul and his chief of staff for visiting their son and praised the work of police and first responders while asking for privacy going forward.
"Most of all, we are impressed with the love and support of Phillip's many friends, the Antioch Church, Washington D.C., his current and former colleagues, and even those Phillip doesn't know personally," they said.
"Our hope is that Washington D.C. continues to be the safe and beautiful city our son loves so much," they said.
In his own statement, Paul said Monday: "We are relieved to hear the suspect has been arrested. At this time we would ask for privacy so everyone can focus on healing and recovery."
Neal, the suspect, will appear in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
A public defender representing him did not respond to a request for comment.

WASHINGTONOne of Sen. Rand Paul's staff members was stabbed in Northeast Washington, D.C. on Saturday afternoon and treated for life-threatening injuries.
Metropolitan Police Department on Monday arrested Glynn Neal, 42, in connection with the incident that occurred over the weekend in the 1300 block of H Street, according to a news release. Police charged Neal with Assault with Intent to Kill (Knife), according to a press release.
Federal prison records show Neal was released from prison Friday, the day before the attack.
Police officers were dispatched to the scene at 5:17 p.m. Saturday, when they found the stabbing victim and took the staffer to a local hospital for treatment.
Paul, R-Ky., confirmed in a statement Monday night the victim was a member of his congressional staff:
"This past weekend a member of my staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Washington, D.C. I ask you to join Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanking the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions. We are relieved to hear the suspect has been arrested. At this time we would ask for privacy so everyone can focus on healing and recovery."
The latest incident comes as Republican members in Congress have been sounding the arm about rising crime rates in major U.S. cities.
At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee will hold a hearing on "Overdue Oversight of the Capital City: Part 1." It will include testimony from city council members and chair of the D.C. police union.
Hours later, at 1 p.m., House Oversight will try to retroactively remove D.C.s Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022.

This past weekend a member of my staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Washington DC, the Kentucky senator said in a statement to ABC News late Monday. Biden admin led massive ‘speech censorship operation,’ former state AG …
Posted: at 1:15 am
EXCLUSIVE: The Biden administration has led "the largest speech censorship operation in recent history" by working with social media companies to suppress and censor information later acknowledged as truthful," former Missouri attorney general Eric Schmitt will tell the House Weaponization Committee Thursday.
Schmitt, now a Republican senator from Missouri, is expected to testify alongside Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and former Missouri deputy attorney general for special litigation, D. John Sauer.
LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST BIDEN, TOP OFFICIALS FOR 'COLLUDING' WITH BIG TECH TO CENSOR SPEECH ON HUNTER, COVID
The three witnesses will discuss the findings of their federal government censorship lawsuit, Louisiana and Missouri v. Biden et alwhich they filed in May 2022 and which they describe as "the most important free speech lawsuit of this generation."

The testimony comes after Missouri and Louisiana filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration, alleging that President Biden and members of his team "colluded with social media giants Meta, Twitter, and YouTube to censor free speech in the name of combating so-called disinformation and misinformation."
The lawsuit alleges that coordination led to the suppression and censorship of truthful information "on a scale never before seen" using examples of the COVID lab-leak theory, information about COVID vaccinations, Hunter Bidens laptop, and more.
THESE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION AGENCIES HAVE ADMITTED COVID LAB LEAK IS PLAUSIBLE
The lawsuit is currently in discovery, and Thursdays hearing is expected to feature witness testimony that will detail evidence collected to show the Biden administration has "coerced social media companies to censor disfavored speech."
"Discovery obtained by Missouri and Louisiana demonstrated that the Biden administrations coordination with social media companies and collusion with non-governmental organizations to censor speech was far more pervasive and destructive than ever known," Schmitt will testify, according to prepared testimony obtained by Fox News Digital.

Missouri and Louisiana have been able to gather documents and depositions from federal officials as part of the discovery processincluding a deposition of Dr. Anthony Fauci, in which they questioned him on the COVID lab-leak theory, efficacy of masks, vaccines and more.
Social media companies flagged any COVID posts from users that cautioned against receiving vaccines; discussed the lab-leak theory; or discounted the efficacy of masks.
FLASHBACK: TWITTER TO EXPAND COVID-19 VACCINES POLICY TO COMBAT 'HARMFUL,' 'MISLEADING' TWEETS
Since then, the FBI and the Department of Energy have admitted that COVID-19 may have originated from a Chinese lab leak, despite outrage during the pandemic that dismissed that theory as a conspiracy.
Missouri and Louisiana also deposed an FBI agent about the Hunter Biden laptop story, which revealed that the FBI "deliberately planted false information about hack-and-leak operations in advance of the Hunter Biden laptop story in order to deceive social media platforms into censoring the Hunter Biden laptop story."

Fox News first reported the existence of some type of investigation involving Hunter Biden in October 2020, ahead of the 2020 presidential election. It became known then that the FBI hadsubpoenaed the laptoppurportedly belonging to Hunter Biden in the course of an existingmoney laundering investigation.
HUNTER BIDEN PROBE: 2022 MARKED FOURTH YEAR AND COUNTING OF INVESTIGATION
Hunter Biden confirmed the investigation into his "tax affairs" in December 2020, after his father was elected president. The investigation is being led by Trump-appointed Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss.
Meanwhile, Landry, in his prepared testimony, obtained and reviewed by Fox News Digital, wrote that, through the lawsuit, they have "uncovered a censorship enterprise so vast that it spans over a dozen significant government institutions."

Those government institutions, according to Landry, include the White House, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the FBI, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and the National Institutes of Health.
"Publicly, these federal actors have justified their deeds in the name of protecting the public against misinformation and disinformation, when in fact it is done to suppress disfavored views," Landry will say.
Government officials cannot "circumvent the First Amendment by inducing, threatening, and/or colluding with private entities to suppress protected speech," Landry will say.

"Shockingly, this is exactly what has occurred through this federal censorship enterprise," he will explain.
And Sauer is expected to say that evidence collected shows White House officials "badgering social-media platforms in private to censor speech that contradicts the White Houses preferred narratives;" and federal officials "routinely flagging social media posts by ordinary Americans for censorship."
Sauer will tell the committee that evidence shows federal officials "orchestrating elaborate plots of deception to dupe platforms into censoring disfavored speech," and engaging in meetings with content-moderation officials of major social media platforms to discuss disinformation and censorship.
STEFANIK SAYS CENSORSHIP OF HUNTER BIDEN LAPTOP STORY WAS 'ELECTION MEDDLING BY FBI ON BEHALF OF DEMOCRATS'
Sauer will also testify that federal officials have "relentlessly" pressured social media platforms by "threatening them with ruinous legal consequences if they do not increase censorship of disfavored speakers and viewpoints."
"Federal censorship stifles the voices of ordinary Americans and places the modern public square in elite control," Sauer will say. "And freedom of speech does not harm people. On the contrary, censorship inflicts lasting harm on Americans by distorting and impeding the quest for truth in a free marketplace of ideas."
