Psychedelics. Discussing natural and synthetic friends. Science, News …

Posted: November 5, 2022 at 3:32 pm

I'm just posting here because I want to talk about it. Not sure why lol. I guess if the mods want to delete it then that's fine. I'm chillin.

I live on a boat. Super cool being at a marina and doing this. The water is beautiful, the stars look nice. Great weather too.

Did this with my boyfriend and was surprised at how it affected us differently. I figured I'd be more susceptible to a bad experience due to my poor mental health, but I ended up being super positive while my boyfriend who is normally mentally stable has had to calm himself down many times now, saying he's been feeling dread. He has also lost much of his dexterity and motor controls. I wanted to see how I was affected in that way and so I picked up the guitar and played through Blackbird with no problems. That, and I'm writing all this out, so I guess my motor control is fine.

It so affected us differently in terms to how potent the dose we took was. He only had a small amount, and I probably took triple of what he had (I just keep slowly taking more until I felt comfortable) Kinda strange, but he's also used to having good control over himself and his environment so I guess it would definitely bother him more. I've had psychosis issues for a while now, so maybe I'm just good at reminding myself of what's real and such.

I also have no clue how the hell my boyfriend managed to fall asleep. I've heard that you can't really sleep while tripping and yet he snoozing mid trip.

I'm going to stop typing and hit send now. I'm rambling and honestly don't feel like typing anymore. If this gets removed, that's cool. Sorry if this post broke any rules. Cheers lol.

The History of the Euthanasia Movement | JSTORY Daily

Posted: at 3:29 pm

The idea that death should be merciful is not new. When a person is gravely wounded or terminally ill, when death is inevitable, and the suffering is so great that living no longer brings any joy to the person, it is understandable that he or she may wish to die. In Two Pioneers of Euthanasia Around 1800, Michael Stolberg cites accounts of people pulling on the legs of those who had been hanged, but had not yet died, to hasten their deaths. He mentions also Apologie, the autobiography of a French surgeon named Ambroise Par who happened upon three gravely wounded soldiers. An uninjured soldier asked the surgeon if they would live, to which he responded they would not. The uninjured soldier proceeded to slit their throats.

The invention and widespread use of morphine in the 19th century to treat, and then to kill, pain led to the belief that a less painful dying process was possible, Giza Lopes writes in her book Dying With Dignity: A Legal Approach to Assisted Death. In the mid-19th century, surgeons began using chloroform, which had fewer negative side effects than morphine, and which knocked people unconscious. In 1885, the American Medical Association officially opposed voluntary euthanasia. Though some doctors believed in the redemptive nature of suffering, the opposition was not overwhelming enough to stop the movement. The ability to relieve pain experienced as the result of surgical procedures, childbirth, or mere living, logically led to conversations about death and dying. Medications could alleviate end-of-life suffering and expedite death.

Doctors and ethicists from both the United States and England hashed out their thoughts on euthanasia in medical journals.

As time and technology progressed, everyday people came to see physicians as godlike figures, and, Lopes writes, doctors claimed a role in the process of dying. Through the early 20th century, opiates were still widely available, but physicians had begun to take control of prescribing and administering other medications.

On January 23, 1906, the Ohio legislature introduced a euthanasia bill. A Cincinnati woman named Anna Hall had lobbied hard to legalize euthanasia, hoping to hasten the death of her mother, who was suffering from a terminal and painful illness. That same year, Dr. R. H. Gregory introduced a similar bill to the Iowa state legislature. These two have been dubbed the chloroform bills.

Doctors and ethicists from both the United States and England hashed out their thoughts on euthanasia in medical journals, and the movements in both countries evolved in tandem. When Dr. Gregory proposed the Iowa euthanasia bill, the British Medical Journal responded, tearing into him:

That the man is either a crank of a particularly noxious type or a mere-notoriety hunter, is clear enough from the statement attributed to him that he simply wishes to make lawful that which is already daily practised by the greatest physicians and surgeons in every large hospital in the United States. If Dr. Gregory really believes this, he is more credulous than the simplest gobe-mouche who swallows without straining the platform facts of antivivisection and antivaccination; if he does not believe it, he is a liar of the basest kind.

A few years later, in 1911, a woman named Sadie Marchant, who was living in a Shaker colony and struggling to breathe with a single functioning lung for years, asked for help dying. The Shakers with whom shed been living prayed and decided finally that helping her die would be the right thing to do. Two of the Shakers were arrested. Their case was ultimately dismissed in January 1912, Lopes writes in Dying With Dignity. The case was well covered by newspapers across the country including the Washington Times and the New York Times. The dismissal of charges helped cement the idea of euthanasia as merciful in the case of terminal illness and grave suffering.

In 1935, the euthanasia movement got going in earnest in England when the Voluntary Euthanasia Legalization Society was founded. It held its inaugural meeting that year, and the societys founder, C. Killick Millard, wrote to the British Medical Journal that he hoped the British Medical Association, which had not offered an opinion one way or another, would not offer an opinion. The decision to die, the author continued, was not a medical one.

A bill was introduced to Britains House of Lords in 1936 that would allow anyone over 21 years old who was mentally competent and fatally ill, or sick with an incurable disease, and suffering from immense pain to request voluntary euthanasia. The person would have to have two witnesses and be seen by several doctors, and then apply to the Minister of Health, who would then have to interview the dying person. That bills requirements are nearly identical to the ones that are now law today in several U.S. states. With 35 to 14 votes, the bill was defeated.

In 1957, the Vatican proclaimed that passive euthanasia was acceptable.

In 1957, the Vatican proclaimed that passive euthanasia was acceptable, according to Thomas R. Coles review of A Merciful End. Passive euthanasia is the deliberate decision to withhold lifesaving measures, like a ventilator, knowing that death will result. Hoping to take advantage of the change in public opinion after the Popes declaration, assisted-suicide advocates pivoted to focus on legalizing passive euthanasia.

Fast-forward four decades to 1994, when Oregon became the first state to legalize aid in dying. The law was immediately challenged, Lee v. State of Oregon. The case made its way through the court system for the next three years, and in February 1997, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed the lower courts ruling against the Oregon Death with Dignity Act. The law went into effect in 1997.

Around the same time, Dr. Jack Kevorkian was traveling across the country with his death machine, making the cover of Time and stirring up conversation about end-of-life choices. District attorneys brought criminal charges against Kevorkian for ending peoples lives several times, but he was convicted only once. Kevorkian had filmed himself giving a man with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) life-ending medication. He then gave the tape to Mike Wallace, host of 60 Minutes. Wallace aired the tape on TV alongside an interview with Kevorkian. In the tape, after the man dies, Kevorkian challenges the district attorney to take him to court. Reluctantly, the DA did, and this time Dr. Death lost. Kevorkian was sentenced to between 10 and 25 years in prison, the New York Times reported in his obituary. He was released in June 2007, after promising hed never help in another suicide. He died in 2011.

* * *Today, anyone choosing to die under the law in states where physician aid is legal, like Oregon, Washington, Vermont, Montana, and California, must be able to self-administer the life-ending medication. If the patient cannot, then he or she is ineligible, which means that most people suffering from neuromuscular diseases like ALS and Parkinsons will not be able to ease their pain legally. By the time people with these diseases are within six months of death, more often than not, they cannot self-administer.

That said, some doctors are still willing to help patients die, whether legally or illegally. In non-Catholic hospices, palliative sedationlike the so-called passive euthanasia of yoreis one way doctors help their patients hasten death. The doctrine of double effect safeguards doctors whose good-faith actions result in the death of their patients. If the doctor can make the case that he or she administered medicine without knowing or not believing it would result in a patients death, the doctrine protects them.

As medical technology gets better and better, death can become more prolonged and more difficult. A heart attack that once might have killed a person can now serve as a wakeup call. Ventilators keep people breathing far beyond when their bodies would have died naturally. Death does not come as it used to. While some people might welcome more days, regardless of their pain or diminished physical state, others do not. Policy and medical ethics have not kept up with technology.

What are Some Examples of Victimless Crimes? – eLawTalk.com

Posted: at 3:26 pm

In todays society where you hear about all the different types of crimes committed each day, whether it be a robbery or an assault, have you ever wondered what is a victimless crime and what are some examples of victimless crimes?

There are several examples of a victimless crime, but here are a few of the more common ones that comes to mind: public drunkenness, trespassing, recreational drug use, homelessness, gambling, and traffic violations.

A victimless crime is generally an illegal criminal act whereby there is no identifiable victim. This usually only involves only the perpetrator or is a voluntary act between consenting adults.

There is obviously no official legal or statutory definition since in theory, a victimless crime would not actually exist. Typically, laws are enacted to restrict unwanted behavior and actions, such as assault or abuse. However, there are situations where a law criminalizes certain consensual behavior where is no victim, such as recreational drug use or prostitution.

It can be argued whether some of these examples are truly victimless crimes or can go even further and argue whether they should a crime at all. Note, that depending on the state, some of the examples are actually legal, such as gambling and prostitution, which is legal in certain parts of Nevada.

Drug use will be discussed in more detail later in the article.

Lets take, for example, living in a vehicle. There are different opinions on the matter, but who is victimized by the individual who chooses to live in their vehicle. Now, obviously, if this individual parked their vehicle on private property, for example on a strangers driveway, then there could be trespassing, as well as any potential property damage.

This has been a part of the overall discussion about the proper scope of criminal law. Proponents claim those crimes that can be viewed as victimless, should then have the underlying statutes that define such offenses be repealed.

Some of the thinking to support this argument claim that as a matter of principle, society cannot legitimately prohibit conduct that only harms the individuals involved in the act. Additionally, it is also noted that the following can be said to be true of victimless crimes:

It has also been shown over the years that some of these victimless crimes have not decreased, so that provides additional support for abolishing the statutes that define these offenses as crimes.

Other more progressive thinking includes legalizing certain victimless crimes and then perhaps enact laws to tax the individuals or the activity which will provide another form of revenue for the state and federal authorities.

The idea to legalize prostitution in the United States has been around for decades. The argument for this claims it would remove the organized crime element and human trafficking. It can also create a safer environment for sex workers if there was some form of registration as a sex worker and providing better access to healthcare.

The debate over whether to legalize drugs at the federal level has continued for decades, and yet to date there is still no clear solution that will satisfy both sides of the debate anytime soon. Besides the potential revenue from the sale of drugs, just imagine the billions of dollars that can be saved each year spent to enforce drug related laws and various justice programs to combat the drug problem.

Therefore, it is again the individual states that have taken their own initiative to enact some form of drug legalization, whether it is just for one drug or all drugs across the board.

The legalization of marijuana is an excellent example, since 2012 there have been eighteen states, including Washington D.C., and Guam, that have taken steps to fully legalize the recreational use of marijuana:

*Legalization measure was passed in 2020, but struck down by state Supreme Court in 2021.

It must be noted that these legalization measures are only at the individual state level, it is still considered a crime by federal authorities since the federal government has not legalized the recreational use of marijuana. However, federal law enforcement has typically taken a hands-off approach and has not pursued individuals, as long as they conducted the activity within the legal framework of the respective state law.

With the exception of Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, the remaining states are either in the process of decriminalizing the recreational use of marijuana or have already implemented such new laws. Decriminalization is different from legalization in that, it is only the reduction of penalties for a criminal act or reclassifying the act as a civil offense.

It can also be said that other products such as alcohol or cigarettes can be harmful as well, yet it is not illegal to consume them. Therefore, proponents argue that the potential harm that can be caused cannot be the only criteria used to determine if a crime should be considered victimless or not.

Critics claim, although there may be no actual identifiable victims other than the participating individuals, what about the cost of these so-called victimless crimes, as everything has a consequential cost. For example, society or taxpayers would ultimately be burdened with the cost of the drug rehabilitation programs for a drug addict, so then can the taxpayers be deemed as indirect victims.

Moreover, citizens that were harassed or offended by public drunkenness or disorderly individuals, the spouse of an adulterer or prostitution client, or the family of a drug addict; all of these can also be deemed to be victims in some form.

Lastly, arguments on this side of the discussion have typically centered more around the moral aspects of a particular activity, rather than whether the activity had any identifiable victims. These arguments also usually focus on four behaviors, prostitution, drug use, homosexuality, and abortion.

One can observe by the type of behavior, that this very much aligns with the political right and the conservatives within the United States and their particular views on these issues.

Opinions on this issue can vary drastically from country to country, as different regions of the world have different laws on some of the previously discussed crimes, as well as different moral perspectives, which are typically based on either cultural norms or religious beliefs.

For example, prostitution has been legalized in many European countries for years, in some form or another. In countries like Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Turkey. the Netherlands, Hungary, and Latvia, prostitution is legal and regulated, whereas in other countries, it is legal but not regulated.

In the Netherlands, even though prostitution was not legalized until 2000, it was more or less tolerated for decades prior. The premise for legalizing prostitution stemmed from the idea that it would remove the organized crime element, limit human trafficking, improve access to healthcare for the sex workers, and make sex work safer.

There has not been any definitive report that has shown the legalization has actually worked in eliminating the criminal element and the human trafficking, although it can be said that the working environment has been made safer for those workers that were not trafficked or coerced into the trade.

In most of Asia, prostitution is primarily illegal but tolerated in certain countries. There are a few countries where it is legal in a limited manner.

For example, prostitution is legal in Singapore and Hong Kong. In Singapore, it is legal in areas where brothels are allowed to transact business, as well as in other designated zones where it is tolerated. Any worker caught outside these areas will be prosecuted. In Hong Kong, the buying and selling of sex with one woman is legal but doing the same with more than one woman would constitute a brothel which is illegal.

In other countries such as the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, where prostitution is illegal, it is however extremely widespread and pretty much tolerated by the authorities. The industry brings in millions in revenue for the red-light areas and the respective countries as a whole.

AMPK Metabolic Activator, 30 tablets – Life Extension

Posted: at 3:12 pm

Customer: It doesn't matter what I do. I'm careful about what I eat. I drink tons of water. I exercise daily. All of this hard workand I still can't beat the belly fat. What can I do?

Michael A. Smith, MD: As we age, our body produces less of an enzyme called AMPK, which helps to convert sugar and fat into energy. And a decline in AMPK might be a major cause for unwanted belly fat. However, studies show that if you increase AMPK activity, this can encourage your body to stop storing fat and burn it as energy. So take the fight against fat to the cellular level with Life Extensions AMPK Metabolic Activator.

Customer: I did some research and found out that belly fat can actually speed up the normal aging process because it creates compounds that cause inflammation and oxidative stress. And who wants that? After adding AMPK Metabolic Activator to my normal routine, I've noticed a big difference. Good thing, toobecause my husband just booked us a cruise, and I'm really excited to relax by the pool!

Dr. Michael A. Smith, MD: Director of Education and Spokesperson for Life Extension.

Republicans score big win in race for crucial Senate seat after …

Posted: at 3:05 pm

Libertarian candidate Marc Victor has dropped out of the Arizona Senate race, giving Republicans a major boost as they try to secure a majority in the upper house of Congress.

In withdrawing from the race, Victor has endorsed Republican candidate Blake Masters, who is running against incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ). Victor dropping out of the race comes a week before the election between the two, which is still very tight with only days left for the two to reach out to voters, according to a statement from Masters's campaign.

I found Blake to be generally supportive of the Live and Let Live Global Peace Movement, Victor said in a statement on Tuesday. "Likewise, we found ourselves in general agreement about how to improve America and advance the cause of freedom and peace. After that discussion, I believe it is in the best interests of freedom and peace to withdraw my candidacy and enthusiastically support Blake Masters for United States Senate. I intend to assist in any way reasonably possible to elect Blake."

WHERE POLLS STAND IN KEY SENATE RACES ONE WEEK FROM MIDTERM ELECTIONS

Victor and Masters spoke to each other on Monday in a 20-minute recorded conversation, which the Libertarian candidate had made a precondition to quitting. Victor is expected to publish the conversation for the public to listen to themselves, a person familiar with the conversation told the New York Times.

Masters was appreciative of Victor's endorsement, stating that it was "another major boost of momentum as we consolidate our support against the extreme and radical policies of Mark Kelly and Joe Biden. Live and Let Live."

Masters, who is endorsed by former President Donald Trump, has attempted to gain the support of Libertarian voters. On Thursday, the Senate candidate posted a 2010 photo of himself with former Rep. Ron Paul, thanking the famous Libertarian candidate for his endorsement.

A New York Times-Siena College poll released Monday stated that Kelly holds a 6 percentage point lead over Masters, with Kelly at 51% and Masters at 45%. The poll, conducted from Oct. 24 through Oct. 28, surveyed a total of 604 likely Arizona voters and had a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.

To gain control of the Senate, the Republican Party needs to have a net gain of at least one Senate seat. The Senate race between Republicans and Democrats is currently in a dead heat as of Tuesday, with both parties winning 50 out of 100 simulated outcomes, according to FiveThirtyEight.
