Life-changing treatment program in Ohio expanding for veterans and first responders – WTRF

Posted: October 19, 2022 at 3:44 pm

CADIZ, Ohio (WTRF) What would you do to change your life?

For the far too many veterans and first responders caught in the struggles of PTSD, the answer is just about anything.

Last year 7News brought you to a small room inside the Harrison County Sheriffs Department where a ground-breaking treatment was pulling people away from the lingering trauma of military service and towards a new-life.And because of the life-altering success, the program is expanding across Ohio.

I just reached the point in my life, you know, I couldnt stand what I was doing. I tried to commit suicide once. My daughter just ran to the basement screaming no daddy no.

For 50-years, Marine Corps veteran Terry Wildman carried what happened in the jungles of Vietnam with him.

He sought treatment, and it helped, but it wasnt enough. Then Wildman found TMS in Harrison County.

A lot of guys are coming in here having post-traumatic stress to severe levels, I mean, to where theyre thinking about doing bad things and this gives them hope.

Dirk Harkins has faced his own struggles with PTSD.

He too had TMS treatment change his life, but had to travel to Texas for it.

To know that I had brothers and sisters back here in Ohio struggling from the same thing that didnt have the ability to get this like I did, the fight was on.

The fight continues to expand the treatment in Ohio, but its getting easier.

First, this program was made possible through a collaboration with Ohio State Universitys Wexner Medical Center. It allowed the TMS treatment to come to the Harrison County Sheriffs Department for veterans.

30 days, life-changing results: The new treatment available to veterans in the Ohio Valley

When that contract ended; Harkins, Ohio State Senator Frank Hoagland, and others got to work grying to get funding from the state. They did, and now TMS will be more widely available; not just to veterans, but first responders too.

You may be able to be better focused, better response times. We work with people all over the country and we hear my wife likes me again, my children tolerate me again, Im able to sleep better, focus better, concentrate. Then, how does that impact your work?

TMS treatments work with magnets. As Harkins describes it, it re-boots the brain.

There are two types of TMS treatment, and what a veteran or first responder needs is determined by medical experts and an initial EEG.

Currently, sTMS is whats available at the Harrison County Sheriffs Department. Its 30-minute sessions, five days a week for 30-days. With this new program, eTMS will be a possibility. Its 100-times the output and lasts about 14-16 minutes at a time, with one session a day for 30-days.

Some parts of the program may also pair counseling with TMS treatments.

The treatment is FDA approved for migraines, anxiety and OCD, but its also helping participants with a critical basic function.

They go from restless nights to a more sound sleep.

I havent slept for 50-years. Every night of my life Im back in the jungle. Somethings wrong. I couldnt do what I wanted to do.

I couldnt believe what was happening (after the treatment). I thought my God, where has this been years and years ago.

While the treatments are five-days a week for 30-days, the initial results come fairly quickly.

Even after youre done, the program has a way to make sure the benefits of TMS And eTMS dont wear off.

Charles company developed technology that works like a watch, to track data and notify doctors when a veteran may be slipping backwards.

Lets say in a couple months your sleep starts going down. We are notified by our technology and the doctors are notified. The peer support people are notified. Well give you a call and say is something going on in your life?.

Harkins calls it a quality of life machine.

He explained all it takes is commitment to the program to get life-changing results.

Were seeing that its reducing opioid cravings, alcohol, its relieving pain, mobility. Its amazing some of the things Im seeing how its working.

TMS treatments will be available in Barnesville, New Lexington, Columbus and Youngstown at the end of this month.

The initial center at the Harrison County Sheriffs Department will be there too.

Veterans or first responders who think they could benefit from this treatment can call Dirk Harkins at 740-491-7125.

There will also be a website up and running soon where veterans and first responders can sign up for the TMS program. When its active, 7News will be sure to link it here.

Over 60% Of Pokemon Fans Are Most Excited For This Feature In Scarlet & Violet – SVG

Posted: at 3:44 pm

The feature people are most excited for, earning 61 percent of the vote, is the new open-world experience of "Pokmon Scarlet and Violet." Unlike previous iterations in the series, this new open-world has no guardrails or story order. According to the game's website, you can go where you want, when you want(for the most part) on your "Scarlet and Violet" journey. This is expected to provide much more of an open experience than "Pokmon Legends: Arceus."

Coming in a distant second place (with 13 percent of the vote) was the Auto Battle feature. While you're traversing the open world, this feature allows you to send yourPokmon in any direction you choose. It'll then pick up items in its path and automatically fight any monster it runs into.

Tied for third and fourth place in the poll were the three new starters Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly and the ability to craft TMs. The feature players are least excited for, Tera Raid Battles, garnered only 6 percent of the vote. These battles involve four players taking on a wild TerastallizedPokmon within a certain limit of time.

All in all, while there are many exciting new features in"Pokmon Scarlet and Violet," none of them seem to compare to the open world experience. Hopefully, it lives up to the fan hype.

In collaboration with a leading private carrier over the last three years, the application is highly refined and addresses real-world pain points of transportation.

Allowing carriers to connect, mobilize, track and manage their fleets in real-time, FR8Focus was developed to integrate seamlessly into all facets of less-than-a-truckload (LTL) and truckload operations (TL). NorthStar Digital Solutions COO, Dave Brajkovich, explains, "FR8Focus is about more than a single piece of technology. It's about flawlessly combining an assortment of technologies to solve industry-wide issues. Operations can see their entire fleet(s) on the road at a glance, communicate with drivers instantly and adjust schedules ad hoc." Mr. Brajkovich continues, "From a carrier's customer standpoint, we have eliminated a lot of frustration. When they see real-time route flows and receive instant notifications, there is no longer a need to ask where their shipment is."

The application provides agility and visibility while reducing the antiquated processes of paper-shuffling from hours to minutes, even seconds, by completely digitizing operational workflow. This significantly lessens carrier overhead, eliminating all manual labour previously required to handle documentation. PODs are scanned by the drivers and uploaded instantly to backend TMS systems to provide next-minute customer invoicing. Customs documentation is uploaded immediately to expedite shipment release and border crossing. This is backed by industry-leading document capture resolution mitigating error and ensuring no carriers are leaving money on the table.

Radaro's Joe Thull, Head of North America, comments, "Working with a large LTL provider over these past two years allowed us to co-create a solution that has solved many of the current LTL marketplace challenges while being simple to use, yet powerful to scale." Mr. Thull adds, "Our solution was developed with the carrier, the customer and the driver in mind, resulting in truly intuitive systems where workflows anticipate each step. FR8Focus complements existing tech stacks to allow for efficient integration and avoid the headache of replacing systems essential to running their business."

Mr. Brajkovich exclaims, "Customers, partners and transportation leaders are showing significant interest and excitement. Not just for the impact FR8Focus can have on their bottom line, but for how quickly we can integrate. Our ROIs are well-established and the infrastructure is in place. We can integrate into a small fleet or trial portion of a larger fleet within a couple of days." He concludes, "Waiting for information is a non-starter for this day and age. With FR8Focus, we're connecting the road to the back office!"

SOLV Energy partners with Swap Robotics to tackle thick vegetation on solar sites – Solar Power World

Posted: at 3:43 pm

SOLV Energy announced during the TechCrunch Disrupt 2022 Conference in San Francisco that it has invested in Swap Robotics. Swap Robotics is an autonomous robotics company that provides 100% electric vegetation management services for utility-scale solar PV facilities.

Swap Robotics autonomous vegetation management solution is one of the first products to be specifically designed and optimized for use on PV solar sites. The Swap team pre-maps each site during the initial teaching run, identifying the safest, most efficient cutting path through the project area. Once the robots have mapped out the area, they can run their routes autonomously with remote oversight by supervisory personnel. Swap robots are designed to traverse variable terrain with cutting decks suited to tackle thick grass and woody vegetation that can reach up to two inches in diameter. The company says its 100% electric rough cut cutting deck can cut thick vegetation that other robotic solutions cannot.

Applying smart solutions to the challenging task of vegetation management supports SOLV Energys commitment to creating better jobs and safer work environments for employees. Autonomous technology reduces maintenance costs and increases performance while lowering the risk of injuries resulting from repetitive and difficult tasks. Remote oversight reduces time spent outside in challenging weather by field technicians and allows for delegation of worker hours to support field teams in remote areas where employees are difficult to hire and retain. The use of all-electric Swap robots also aligns with SOLV Energys site decarbonization goals, eliminating the need for gasoline powered mowers on site.

Swap Robotics cutting decks demonstrate an impressive capability to navigate extremely uneven terrain and remove thick vegetation that has posed consistent problems for traditional mowers, said Tucker Ruberti, SOLV Energys director of corporate development & strategy. Swaps robot has been identified by our subject matter experts as the only sufficiently rugged and powerful solution for utility PV use based on over a decade of experience building and managing large-scale solar projects.

The partnership between SOLV Energy and Swap Robotics accelerates development of innovative technology essential to supporting rapid industry growth in the coming years. As part of a joint agreement, the companies will collaborate on new robotics use-cases on solar sites across the country. SOLV Energy is the largest affiliated O&M provider in the U.S., with over 10 GW under management in 26 states.

The solar industry is gearing up for huge investment resulting from the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. Driving the development of innovative technology is essential to optimizing our capabilities and preparing our workforce for the influx of new projects in a growing number of states, said George Hershman, CEO of SOLV Energy. While a partnership with Swap Robotics will allow us to better serve our clients, even more importantly, it supports our people here at SOLV Energy, providing them with additional tools to do their jobs more efficiently and in safer work environments.

Swap Robotics vegetation management solution is in use on one SOLV Energy O&M site now, with further sites starting in all operating regions over the next six months.

Self-driving truck startup Kodiak Robotics said that it has begun a pilot program with IKEA in Texas.

A semitruck equipped with Kodiak's autonomous driving system is making daily delivery runs from an IKEA warehouse near Houston to a store close to Dallas, roughly 300 miles away.

The trucks have human safety drivers on board, but they're being driven by Kodiak's autonomous-driving system.

Kodiak's CEO, Don Burnette, said that he isn't looking to put truck drivers out of business in fact, he's aiming to make their lives easier.

"Adopting autonomous trucking technology can improve drivers' quality of life by focusing on the local driving jobs most prefer to do," Burnette said. "Together [with IKEA] we can enhance safety, improve working conditions for drivers, and create a more sustainable freight transportation system."

This isn't Kodiak's first self-driving rodeo. The company has been running freight in Texas with its autonomous test trucks since 2019, and recently opened a new route between Dallas and Oklahoma City. Kodiak has also conducted pilot tests with logistics giants Werner Enterprises and U.S. Xpress, running self-driving trucks on routes from Dallas to Lake City, Florida, and Atlanta, respectively.

Texas has become a hotbed for self-driving truck testing, in part because of favorable regulations -- and also because the long highway stretches between its cities are ideal for automation. Waymo, the Alphabet subsidiary that grew out of the Google Self-Driving Car Project, has been testing a fleet of self-driving Freightliner semitrucks (with human safety drivers) on a route between Dallas and Houston for several months.

Self-driving truck startup Aurora Innovation has also been testing trucks in Texas.Aurora began a Texas pilot with Werner Enterprises in April, running on a 600-mile stretch between Fort Worth and El Paso. Another startup, TuSimple, has been testing its self-driving semitrucks in Arizona and is planning to expand to Texas next year.
