Government of Maldives – UNICEF

MALE, Maldives, 12 October 2022Over 100 children and young people from across Maldives and other small island developing states, as well as the South Asian nations Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, gathered in Male today to meet with stakeholders and put children and young people at the forefront of the climate change agenda.

Leading up to COP27, the Multi-Stakeholder Consultation with Young People on Climate Action was hosted by the Government of Maldives in partnership with UNICEF Maldives. The pre-COP27 event provided the opportunity for young people to engage with key government stakeholders, civil society organizations, and private sector partners working around climate action in Maldives.

Through the three key themesPlastic-Free Maldives, Protection and Conservation and Energy and Innovations, the sessions highlighted the critical role children and young people can play in leading the change to create a safer and a more resilient future for all.

Speaking at the opening of the event,Chief Guest, Minister of Education H. E. Dr. Aishath Alistated, Platforms like this are vital in preparing younger generations for what is to come, provides them with pathways to familiarize themselves on issues that will impact their future, engages them in the decision-making process, enhance their knowledge and open their eyes to the world they will soon inherit.

'If the Maldives can do it, the entire world should be able to do it.', saidH.E. Ms. Aminath Shauna, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technologyon driving up climate ambition, strengthening commitments to net-zero & providing opportunities for young people within the climate space.

Children and young people in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) like Maldives are extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Maldives consists of 99 percent water and 1 percent land, with most islands rising just 1.5 meters above sea level. The country is expected to become uninhabitable as early as 2050 and disappear entirely by the end of the century. As a country that does not significantly contribute to climate change, for children in Maldives, climate change is a direct existential threat.

Nationally, I believe the Maldives must incorporate climate resilience into everything we do. Because resilience means self-sufficiency in a world that is increasingly uncertain. And even though global climate action is essential, we still have much to gain by maximizing our efforts of regenerating and protecting our own environment., noted theSpecial Envoy for Climate Change, H. E. Ms. Sabra Noordeen

In recognition of the urgency, young people voiced the need for urgent and accelerated climate action. For me, climate change is a fact that tomorrow may not come -Yaala, 13 years old

Young people from different islands across Maldives and South Asia also presented informed solutions to accelerate climate action and influence child and youth-sensitive climate policies. Maldivian youth also presented their key asks through a youth statement aimed at policymakers, to be taken to COP27 this November in Egypt. Their demands and voices join a global chorus calling for governments to:

UN Resident Coordinator a.i. Enrico Gavegliastated, COPs are a pivotal moment to advance humankinds fight against climate change. How much more negotiation is needed to sustain concerted climate action? COP27 will need to resolve hesitations to bring climate change under control.

TheUNICEF Regional Adviser on WASH and Environment Mr. Peter Harveyshed light on the need for more attention to what can be done within the South Asia region in terms of climate action, especially by empowering and mobilizing youth in advocacy and policy engagement.

Maldives has taken sustained action at the national and international level to address the climate crisis. After hosting the first-ever Small States Conference in 1989, Maldives led efforts to form the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), an intergovernmental organization that remains a key advocate in international environmental policies and SIDS. To take further action and increase ambition, the Government of Maldives has made commitments to phase out single-use plastics by 2023 and achieve net zero emissions by 2030.

Turks and Caicos thanks for Bahamas police link – Bahamas Tribune

NIGEL Dakin, Governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands, has expressed gratitude to the Bahamas government for lending support to assist in their fight against crime, saying the nations officers are already making a difference on the grounds there.

The day after the Bahamian officers arrived, they were operational, he said during his address to TCI on Tuesday.

All I need to say now is theyve already made a difference. Some are directly inducted into our tactical firearms unit, making one large joint team. Some are deployed as response units. Their dogs, able to attack or to search, were active at the airport yesterday, supporting our customs officers search for guns and drugs.

I, the Premier and Commissioner, and the people of the TCI, are extremely grateful for what can only be described as very generous support from our steadfast neighbour. Bahamas, you have been your brothers keeper.

Mr Dakin made the remarks while giving an update on local and international response to tackle the rise in gang related violence on TCI, adding the situation there had been significantly more stable in recent days.

He thanked The Bahamas and the US for assisting with policing operations.

According to police officials, about 20 Bahamian officers were sent to TCI last week as a part of a joint national security operation.

National Security Minister Wayne Munroe has said the government of Turks and Caicos remains a critical partner in ensuring the safety and well being of Bahamians and assured the operation was in the best interests of the country.

He has also hit out at backlash to the announcement with some observers asking why the government would send police officers abroad while The Bahamas is grappling with a rise in murders and other violent crimes.

In a press statement released on Monday, the Free National Movement raised similar concerns and also called on the government to explain its rationale over the move.

We have for national security reasons not been explicit and I see the leader of the opposition doesnt seem to understand and if I tell you all what the officers are there to do, we are also telling the criminals what the officers are there to do, Mr Munroe responded on Tuesday.

So, I dont grasp how they did national security, but how we do national security is we do not arm our enemy with information so the Bahamian people could be assured that it is the Bahamian national security interests that is being addressed by our officers in the Turks and Caicos.

All we need to do is look at Haiti. Haiti is a failed state in terms of their police apparatus collapsing and if anyone thinks that doesnt impact The Bahamas, then they dont have a sufficiently broad view of our national security interests.

Want to save Metro? Dare to re-criminalize fare beating – Washington Examiner

Posted: at 1:36 pm

The Washington, D.C., Metro system has a problem, and its new general manager is on it.

To much praise, including from the Washington Post, Randy Clarke rolled out the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's plan to deal with mass-scale turnstile-jumping.

DC DECRIMINALIZED FARE-JUMPING, AND YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT

You see, in Maryland and Virginia, fare evasion remains a criminal offense. But Washington, D.C., decriminalized it in 2018. In practice, this means that turnstile jumping is accepted and permitted in most of the transit system. On buses, it might actually be more uncommon for people to pay fares, at least in many Washington neighborhoods. Either way, if you refuse to pay, bus drivers have been instructed to let it slide after a number of them were beaten after asking riders to pay their fare.

This is not a victimless crime er, civil offense. As a consequence of fare evasion, Metro just lost $40 million in the fiscal year that just concluded Sept. 30.

Everybody who knows anything about Metro knows that it is chronically short of cash. This is mostly due to the bad decisions of its management and the greed of the union that represents its employees. But those aren't the only factors, and it is only right that suburban communities refuse to provide subsidies as long as district residents are permitted to ride illegally for free. This decriminalization, based as it is on woke ideas about so-called systemic racism and the potential for disproportionate arrests of black fare evaders, is driving the transit system into fiscal ruin, toward an eventual bailout that Maryland, Virginia, and federal taxpayers should not be forced to provide.

Clarke's ideas for stopping fare beaters are mostly shrug-worthy. They range from the laughably ineffective (signs telling people to pay to ride the bus) to the ridiculously expensive (newly designed unjumpable subway gates). At least they will include officers ticketing offenders, for a change.

But how effective will those officers be if they are not allowed to detain anyone? In the long run, there's only one real answer: re-criminalize fare evasion. The penalties don't have to be excessive, but a criminal sanction means real consequences for this kind of dishonest, antisocial behavior.

Something similar has happened in New York City. Also in 2018, Manhattan's district attorney announced that he would no longer prosecute turnstile jumpers. Although fare-beating technically remains a criminal offense in New York, it is unenforced. Stand outside the gate of any subway station in New York City for just a few minutes, and you will see dozens and dozens of people jumping or ducking under turnstiles.

Fare beating has cost New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority hundreds of millions, perhaps even a billion, of dollars over the last several years. And a tragic byproduct is that the subway has become increasingly unsafe, populated by people with mental illnesses and criminal intent. Every time someone is beaten or pushed in front of a train, you have to ask whether the perpetrator might have stayed out of the system had he or she only been made to pay the fare.

In the 1990s, New York City was famously cleaned up by the administration of Mayor Rudy Giuliani. One of the discoveries at that time was that life in the big city could become manageable again but only if quality-of-life offenses were strictly enforced. Police not only enforced the laws against more serious crimes, but they also intervened to stop the squeegee men on the street corners. They confronted and ticketed dog walkers who failed to clean up after their pets. They stopped and arrested turnstile jumpers, in the process catching many criminals who had multiple outstanding warrants.

This one policing trick, simply enforcing the law, helped immensely in transforming New York City from an ungovernable, eternally filthy mess with 2,600 murders a year, into a clean and orderly urban paradise with 70% less violent crime and 80% fewer murders.

New York has been backsliding in recent years, unfortunately. The return to lawless turnstile-jumping is one of many symptoms. But in both New York City and Washington, it's an extremely expensive symptom, costing huge sums of money that the cities' respective transportation systems cannot afford.

If WMATA wants to stop fare beating, the answer is to criminalize it again. The penalty doesn't have to be excessively harsh it just has to be certain and serious. Please should detain, ticket, and check the records of anyone who jumps the turnstile. Not only will it help them catch more serious criminals, of whom there are many in Washington, but it will deter everyone from cheating their fellow passengers by stealing Metro's services.

When you encourage people to break small laws, they start to break bigger ones. And if you want to restore the rule of law, start enforcing the laws again.

Pokers cheating allegations took a weird, wild turn nobody saw coming – SB Nation

Posted: at 1:35 pm

An ongoing investigation into an alleged poker cheating scandal has taken a turn nobody ever expected. Now an employee of Hustler Casino Live, who ran the event, has been fired after allegedly stealing $15,000 in chips from Robbi Jade Lew on the same night she allegedly cheated. Its only getting weirder from here.

On September 29th two players, Robbi Jade Lew and Garrett Adelstein faced down a pot with absolute trash in their hands. Adelstein was bluffing, Lew called him on it and it led to an all-in face off that caused Adelstein to lose his chips. While it was definitely a bad beat, the nature of the hand left people wondering why Lew went so hard on a hand she had no chance of winning until the river, and Adelstein stoked the flames by saying he felt his opponent cheated.

This led to a frankly stupid discussion in which men on the internet, targeting Lew with harassment, insisted she not only knew what Adelsteins hole cards were but the entire flop. This would have required numerous people being in on the cheat, all working in concert to ensure she won, by feeding her information. They claim this came from a vibrating ring on her finger, which took us deeper down the stupidity rabbit hole. Lew said shed gladly have her ring inspected by a jeweler but somehow things got even more bizarre from here.

It was ridiculous to have Hustler Casino Live open a formal investigation into an incident that showed no cheating other than one players word. However, the preliminary findings did find something theft on the inside. Bryan Sagbigsal, a staff member of Hustler Casino Live, was caught on security camera taking three $5,000 chips from Lews stack after filming had finished, which she wasnt looking at the table.

Naturally, because the internet is full of amateur sleuths dying to find their Zapruder film, some are claiming Sagbigsal isnt a thief but that he was collecting payment from Lew for playing a role in the cheating scandal. There are all sorts of wild claims ranging from yells which dont turn up on any video stream, to a filing cabinet theory which alleges Sagbigsal moved a piece of furniture on set to allow his desk to see the hole cards of players.

Of course, while there are some wild theories to build this narrative, they miss the biggest element here: THAT THIS WOULD BE THE ABSOLUTE STUPIDEST PLAN IN THE HISTORY OF CHEATING!

Seriously, this is some Oceans 11 (Brain Cells) shit. Suppose for one moment that Lew and Sagbigsal had colluded on a plan to cheat Adelstein, and suppose they agreed on a payment for providing Lew with information only Hustler staff knew.

WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU FURNISH THIS PAYMENT BY HAVING SAGBIGSAL STEAL CHIPS OUT OF LEWS STACK DURING A LIVE EVENT, WITH CAMERAS EVERYWHERE, RATHER THAN, I DUNNO ... PAY HIM AFTER THE FACT WHEN NOBODY WAS WATCHING.

The desperation to believe this is a huge cheating scandal has led its proponents to ignore all semblances of logic in favor of mental gymnastics to find a way that proves Lew cheated. Still, there is no evidence at this time that she did anything wrong during the hand.

Buckle up, because its about to get even weirder.

Andrea Chang, a reporter for the L.A. Times who spoke to Lew following the event tried to expand on the story by speaking to Sagbigsal, who is also a Los Angeles native. When she found him and asked about Lew, he threatened to stalk her.

Lew claims she initially told detectives she didnt wish to press charges against Sagbigsal, but since changed her mind upon learning he has a criminal record. This is the new breeding ground for theories, with critics saying that it proves Lew was trying to shield her accomplice until the story got too hot.

In short: This is all exceedingly dumb, it just wont end, and still theres not a shred of evidence Lew cheated outside of Adelsteins claims, which are all conjecture.

Lew is taking what she calls a mental health break, which if you look at the replies to her tweets from misogynists is totally understandable. After that shes attempting to clear her name by taking a polygraph test live on stream, to be conducted by a third party. This has reached a point where Lew is having to bend over backwards to defend herself against baseless claims from a man who lost a poker hand and got pissy about it.

The whole situation is gross.

Hall of Famer & Poker Champ Ted Takasaki Offers Thoughts on Fishing Cheating Scandal – PokerNews.com

Posted: at 1:35 pm

When it comes to poker and fishing, perhaps no one is more qualified that South Dakotas Ted Takasaki. Not only is he a poker champion he won the 2016 MSPT Grand Falls he is also a legendary angler. In fact, he is a member of the Fishing Hall of Fame and a top competitor on the National Walleye Tour. In 1998, he won the prestigious Professional Walleye Trail (PWT) Classic Championship, and three years before that the 1995 PWT Top Gun Angler Award.

The world has been consumed by the Hustler Casino Live (HCL) alleged cheating drama between Garrett Adelstein and Robbi Jade Lew, and one of the reasons interest has been so high from mainstream audiences is that it coincided with high-profile cheating scandals in the chess and fishing industries.

PokerNews recently caught up with Takasaki to get his take on the recent cheating scandal that rocked the fishing industry when accused cheaters Jacob Runyan and Chase Cominsky allegedly rigged weigh-ins by stuffing fish with 12-ounce lead weights and filets sliced from other fish.

The whole incident was captured in what has become a viral video allegedly catching the cheaters red-handed.

There is absolutely no room in any competitive sport for cheating. I am appalled and the perpetrators should be fined, any monies won should be returned to rightful winners, and the perps should spend some jail time, said Takasaki, who confirmed that he didnt know the alleged fishing cheaters. It is very shocking to me! This was the first time that I have heard of this kind of activity to this level in any facet of my professional fishing career.

When asked what he thought might be easier to cheat in, poker or fishing, Takasaki really wasnt sure.

I guess that is something that I have never considered, so I cannot answer this question, he offered. When one plays by the rules, one doesnt even think about how easy it can be to cheat.

As for fishing and poker in general, Takasaki actually sees some similarities.

I believe that a successful angler can truly be a successful poker player and vice versa. Patience is the key. By being able to pick the right time to push your chips into the middle or making a long run to catch the winning fish, or waiting on a hot spot for the fish to turn on are important skills to learn. Reading an opponent such as tells on a poker player or sensing a change in the fishes behavior and where they live/moving to are critical skills to master. I love both sports tremendously.

In August 2016, Takasaki topped a 187-entry field to win the $1,100 MSPT Main Event at Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa, just across the border from his hometown in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

"Poker's a hobby for me, fishing is my profession," Takasaki said at the time, which is also when he was sponsored in fishing by the likes of Lund Boats and Mercury Outboards. "I get a big high every single time I win a pot. This is the biggest win I've ever had by far. I play online a lot, come out to the casino quite a bit. This is equivalent to the first $100,000 fishing tournament I won. I was jumping up and down. It was exciting. It was exactly how I envisioned being a professional fisherman would be like back when. This win is exactly the same euphoria, the same kind of emotion. It's like the culmination of all the work I've done."

Takasaki still keeps busy both fishing and playing poker, though the latter has been curbed a little bit after he got married a few years ago, something that has made him happier than ever.

My wife, Charlotte, is very considerate of my passions and is good to allow me to pursue both my fishing and poker careers, he said. Im just more careful as to what I enter the live poker tournaments vs. online or which fishing tournaments I enter, team or individual. Everything in life is about balance: work, life, hobbies, and family. I do love my wife incredibly and everything she brings along with marriage so I am considerate to what she likes to do and we compromise a bunch! It makes for a great marriage!

Is Full House The Best Hand in Poker? Read To Know More – Popdiaries

Posted: at 1:35 pm

A full house is easy to make and thus it is considered the best hand in Poker. But, why? To know the answer, continue reading the article.

Poker is a widely known card game. In this game, if you make the best hand combination, you win the game. The poker hands are basically the deciding factor for a victory. If you have ever heard of this game, then you must have come across the term full house. But,what is a full house in poker? In the rankings of poker hands, the full house stands fourth. This hand can be created with 5 cards having a pair and three-of-a-kind. As it is on No.4, a straight flush hand and a four-of-a-kind are higher than Full House. However, this hand is at a higher position than flush. If more than one player makes a full house, then a player whose card values match the hands is higher, then he/she wins the round.

Full House is a poker hand that is formed with two other hands in poker. These hands are three-of-a-kind and a pair. To create a full house, a player needs two cards of similar numbers or face values plus any three cards of the same numbers. Simply put, to form this poker hand, which is also known as a boat, you will require three cards of similar ranks and two of a different rank. In Poker, this hand is quite unique and the chance of getting this hand simultaneously is also very thin. The probability of creating a full house using a standard deck of 52 cards (excluding printed jokers) is 3744. According to the rules of Poker, Aces comprising kings and a pair of Kings is the highest Full House.

According to the standard poker hand rankings, the full house stands in the fourth position against other hand combinations. It is below the four-of-a-kind hand, as per Texas Holdem Poker. In this hand combination, out of five cards, 4 should be of the rank alike. For example, rank 4, rank 4, rank 4, rank 4 and rank 7 forms this poker hand. A full house is also positioned above flush which ranks 5th place in Poker hand rankings. To form this hand, you need to combine 5 cards from similar suits. For example, 8, 6, 5, 3 and 2 numbered cards of can be called a flush.

As per Poker rules, to form a full house, players need to create a three-of-a-kind first. The rank of the full house is determined by the cards that have been used to create the three-of-a-kind. After that, players need to form a pair of cards having similar ranks. There are some cases where the cards in three-of-a-kind decide the ranking of a full house. Also, in many cases, it is the pair that decides the full houses ranking. Remember, if theres a full house where three-of-a-kind consists of Aces, then that combination is the winner.

In this section, you will learn how to use a Full House in poker games likeOmahaand Texas Holdem. In both these games, this hand is very essential. Because the winner of these games is decided by the fact who has the better hand combination with the five cards. But, before we start how to play this hand in both games, lets learn the rules first.

Omaha is a Texas Holdem variant. When the game starts, the dealer gives 4 cards to each player. Unlike Texas Holdem, in this form of Poker, 5 cards are placed on the table face-down. Players must choose 2 cards out of 4 to play the game. And when they have to make the five-card hand, they need to use two cards. This is the only difference between Omaha and Texas Holdem Poker. The rest of the rules are similar to that of Texas Holdem Poker. Now lets look at an example and understand this game. Suppose, the dealer presented 3 community cards on the table: Queen, Queen and Jack. A player may have formed a hand comprising queen, king, jack and ace. And the second player has formed a hand comprising Queen, 7, King and 8. So, in this scenario, the player with all the high-value cards will be declared the winner.

Next, we have the famous Texas Holdem Poker. It is the most straightforward Poker variant available. If you are a beginner at Poker, then you should start with Texas Holdem. Each player gets two cards in this game which are placed face down on the table. After that, five community cards are placed on the table face up. And like the basic rule of Poker, the player who makes the best hand wins the game. Usually, at the start and end of the game, players place their bets. In this game, players must remember to use a seven-card combination.

We can say that Full House is a great hand combination in poker if used properly. But, remember that it ranks 4th in the poker hand rankings so, anyone using a hand above full house will win. To know more about Poker or toplay a game, visit GetMega.

Three-Card Poker Online: Everything You Need to Know – News from Wales

Posted: at 1:35 pm

The same factors that have made three-card poker successful in land-based casinos have translated to its success in virtual ones. Equally accessible, it has a low house edge and requires nothing in the way of strategy. Pair can be played either against the dealer or a pay table. At online casinos such as https://www.slotozilla.com/uk/online-casinos/fast-withdrawal, you may put your talents to the test for real money, or you can play for free just for pleasure. Different rules apply while playing at an online casino compared to a physical one, which will be discussed in this chapter. This games widespread appeal may be attributed partly to the fact that it requires nothing in the way of strategy or skill to play but provides enough fast-paced rounds to keep gamblers amused for hours on end.

This primer will help you become an online three-card poker pro if youre a newcomer to the game. It provides an overview of the game and outlines some common strategies for playing. Further, weve included some helpful hints for playing, including fundamental strategy and the best ways to wager. Read this essay, and youll be well on becoming a poker pro.

Sitting down at a poker table in an actual or virtual casino will prompt you to place your opening wager. When its your turn to wager, youll see an empty Ante bet box ahead of you. Any amount between the lowest and highest allowed at the table may be wagered. When everyone at the table (including the dealer) has deposited their Ante, the operator will deal three cards to each player. Since youll only be dealt three cards in 3 card poker, its a straightforward variant of the game. Your sole option after receiving your first three cards is to either retain them by making a Play wager or discard them immediately.

In reality, most cards in 3 card poker are ones youll want to keep playing, but well get into that more later in the tactics section. Any play bet you make must be equal to, or more than, your ante bet, doubling your stake. If you want to go to a showdown, you must be willing to stake the whole sum at the beginning of the hand. A showdown occurs after all wagers have been made and participants who do not choose to continue have discarded their remaining cards. When the dealer reveals their hand, everyone gets to see how their hand stacks up against the house. If the dealer possesses at best a queen high hand, winning hands get two-to-one payouts on their Ante bets and two-to-one payout on their lay bets.

After being given cards, you may either play them or not. Folding means youll lose your ante bet and your cards. Regardless of whether the operator has a poor hand, you still wont be capable of winning the hand. If you make the play bet, youll remain in the round until the finish, when your cards are contrasted to the dealers.

Remember that in 3 card poker, you can only use the cards you are dealt; you cannot draw more cards or discard unwanted ones. The comparison of hands in 3 card poker shows that sure hands, such as complete houses and four of a kind, do not exist in this game variant.

The best online casinos will have a wide variety of casino card poker games available for you to play. The best sites prioritise user safety, optimise mobile use, and provide generous incentives to new customers. You may use the following advice to improve your game. Incorporating a plan into your gameplay might further increase your winning potential. Like in an online blackjack game, you may utilise mathematical concepts to your advantage using specific methods. In what follows, well talk about the many options for systems.

A significant advantage for the house is built into the game of 3-card poker, as is the case with other casino poker games. The house edge on ante and play stakes is 3.37 %, which is far more extensive than the house edge on games like blackjack. The 2.32 per cent house advantage on pair plus bets is smaller than that on the standard bets, making them a tempting option for players.

While both you and the dealer have an equal probability of producing a winning hand, the house has a slight advantage since your play wager is not paid out until the dealer has at least a queen high.

As we said before, there is no difference between playing three-card poker online or in person regarding the rules and techniques for winning. Learn the controls of the game first. While many games have commonalities in terms of their features and mechanics, some of their controls may be positioned in somewhat different places. Dont be caught amid a hand without the ability to up the stakes! Second, make sure youre monitoring your financial situation. In-person play makes it simpler since you can physically see your chip count decrease. While this is not always the case, it often is while playing a three-card poker casino online.

Last but not least, commit to a single game. Sacrificing your chances of winning by playing a few hands at one game while also playing a few hands at another is not a winning approach. Sit down and play more than one or two hands of the same game to improve your odds. Always be consistent since thats what matters most.
