Yamaha Rightwaters Reports Annual Initiative Progress – Business Wire

Posted: at 4:36 am

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Yamaha Rightwaters recapped sustainability and conservation initiative progress from the past 12 months during 2022 Capitol Hill Oceans Week. From June 2021 through June 2022, Yamaha Rightwaters sponsored new carbon sequestration and plastics recycling programs in addition to projects that continue to support marine habitat restoration, managing the spread of invasive species and meaningful scientific research.

Conservation is always the center of Yamaha Rightwaters initiatives and partnership development. Were committed to protecting water our most essential natural resource, said Martin Peters, Division Manager, External Affairs, Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit. Were looking to ensure clean water and sustainable fisheries for future generations to enjoy, and we know carbon sequestration and the reduction of ocean acidification will continue to play a major role in the health of our waterways.

Yamaha Rightwaters recently joined forces with Texas A&M Universitys Harte Research Institute and the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) to initiate a new conservation project designed to restore the degraded oyster beds of St. Charles Bay in the Gulf of Mexico. The ultimate goal of this study is to quantify the amount of carbon a living oyster can sequester. This data will allow Yamaha Rightwaters, CCA and other conservation organizations to scale future oyster reef restoration projects and to sequester measurable, certifiable amounts of carbon, thereby combating ocean acidification while also creating essential fish habitats.

In June of 2021, Yamaha Rightwaters announced support for the Ducks Unlimited Gulf Coast Initiative, which aims to restore more than 78,000 acres in coastal Louisiana and Texas. In addition to the habitat benefits for fish and wildlife, this project will also help filter nitrates from agricultural runoff while sequestering tons of carbon dioxide each year.

Yamaha Rightwaters also became a supporter of The Billion Oyster Project in 2021, an organization dedicated to restoring oyster reefs to New York Harbor in collaboration with New York City communities. Activities include rearing oysters in four nurseries, planting oysters in suitable areas and using the project as a STEM teaching opportunity. To date, the organization has introduced 75 million oysters to the harbor with the participation of more than 6,000 students.

In an effort to reduce the amount of plastic in U.S. waterways, Yamaha Rightwaters launched a reverse logistics recycling program in August of 2021 to return the protective covers from select boat builders, retail dealers and its three boat production facilities. To date, the program is responsible for returning 17,911 pounds of Polyethylene and Polypropylene sheet plastics back into base materials. Contributing manufacturers include Contender Boats, Regulator Marine, Xpress Boats, Yamaha Jet Boat Manufacturing (YJBM), Skeeter, G3 Boats, Valhalla Boats, Grady-White Boats and Sportsman Boats.

With a focus on managing the spread of aquatic invasive species, Yamaha Rightwaters is working with the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and members of the $689 billion recreational industry to create a blue-ribbon commission, which will convene leading biologists, environmentalists, policy makers and resource managers to assess existing mitigation efforts and identify more effective eradication solutions. The commission will present findings to Congress and the administration in 2023 with the goal of passing comprehensive legislation to better manage aquatic invasive species.

In addition, Yamaha Rightwaters currently sponsors the Coastal Conservation Association-Maryland (CCAMD) Aquatic Invasive Species Count, a part fishing tournament, part citizen-science project. The program documents the occurrence of snakehead, blue catfish and flathead catfish, all of which are invasive to Chesapeake Bay. These species negatively impact economically critical native species, such as blue crabs and striped bass, through predation and competition for food and habitat.

Yamaha Rightwaters also continues to support organizations including the NOAA Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful and Keep the Golden Isles Beautiful, Florida State University Coastal Marine Laboratory, the Conch Republic Marine Army, the Potomac River Keepers and Wounded Nature-Working Veterans through efforts including clean up events, outboard-powered research vessels and continued conservation education.

Serving as the umbrella for all of Yamaha Marines sustainability projects, Yamaha Rightwaters officially launched on World Oceans Day 2019 and marks its three-year anniversary this week. The initiative expanded overseas in 2021 when Yamaha Motor Australia became the first major sponsor of the 100 Smarter Cities for Cleaner Oceans through its alliance with clean technology start-up Seabin.

Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit, based in Kennesaw, Ga., markets and sells marine outboard motors ranging in size from 2.5 to 425 horsepower. It also markets and sells fiberglass, jet-drive sport boats ranging from 19 to 27 feet, and personal watercraft. The unit includes manufacturing divisions of Yamaha Marine Systems Co., Inc., including Kracor of Milwaukee (rotational molding), Bennett Marine of Deerfield Beach, Fla. (trim tabs), and Yamaha Marine Precision Propellers of Indianapolis (stainless steel propellers). Yamaha Marine Group is a division of Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., based in Cypress, Calif.

What Sheryl Sandbergs Exit Reveals About Womens Progress in Tech – The New York Times

Posted: at 4:36 am

But many of them encountered difficulties steering aging tech companies. Of those women, only Ms. Catz, Ms. Hood and Ms. Porat remain in their roles.

The snails pace of progress for women leaders in Silicon Valley is worse than disappointing, said Nicole Wong, a deputy chief technology officer for the Obama administration and a former Twitter executive. It makes the commitments that tech leaders made around racial and gender diversity in 2014 look performative.

In 2017, stories of sexual harassment by powerful men in Silicon Valley became part of the #MeToo movement. That year, a group of female investors created All Raise.

In 2018, California passed a law requiring publicly traded companies to have at least one female board director, leading to scores of women joining corporate boards. (A California judge struck down the law last month; the state has said it will appeal the ruling.) Another new law, passed last year, the Silenced No More Act, provides legal protection for people who speak publicly about discrimination or harassment they experienced at work.

Women in tech have continued speaking out about unfair treatment. In 2020, Ms. Brougher reached a $22.5 million settlement with Pinterest for discrimination and retaliation. A discrimination lawsuit by Emily Kramer, a former chief marketing officer at the financial start-up Carta, is working its way through the courts.

There have been some signs of progress. Over the past five years, Katrina Lake of Stitch Fix, Julie Wainwright of The RealReal, Jennifer Hyman of Rent the Runway and Whitney Wolfe Herd of Bumble took the companies they founded public. And following in Ms. Sandbergs footsteps, female chief operating officers are now more common in tech. They include Ms. Choi at Coinbase, Gwynne Shotwell at SpaceX and Jen Wong at Reddit.

At Meta, Ms. Sandberg hired and promoted women, such as Marne Levine, the chief business officer, and Lori Goler, the head of human resources and hiring. The percentage of women in Metas management with titles of director or higher increased to 35 percent in 2021, from 30 percent in 2018, according to the companys data.

Meta also developed women who now lead other tech companies, including Ms. Simo, who oversaw the main Facebook app before becoming Instacarts chief executive last year.

Peacock’s Queer As Folk Reboot Isn’t For Everyone, and That’s Progress – PRIMETIMER

Posted: at 4:36 am

Devin Way and Jesse James Keitel in the new Queer as Folk (Photo: Peacock)

The struggle for queer equality is far from over, but it's a true sign of progress that watching Queer as Folk is no longer an obligation.

Back when Showtime aired the first American adaptation of the British series about a community of gay friends in 2000, it was appointment viewing among huge swaths of queer people. It would be years before The L Word and Noah's Arc focused on lesbians and gay men of color, respectively, and while Will and Grace was a massive hit, the constraints of network TV meant the show's gay characters couldn't have recognizable sex lives. Beyond occasional installments from the Tales of the City franchise, Queer as Folk was the only place to find gay people on television who had friendships, lovers, and family lives. It was the only place to find stories about the personal and political reality of being queer in America, spiced up with the occasional murder.

And let's be clear: The show was pretty bad. For one thing, the plots were so tawdry they made Melrose Place seem like Tennessee Williams. Who can forget the time Ted (Scott Lowell) saw a video of himself having an orgy while he was strung out on crystal meth? Or when Hunter (Harris Allan), the teenage hustler, had sex with a closeted, homophobic politician, then kept a condom full of his semen in order to expose him as a hypocrite? The dialogue could be groaningly terrible, and some of the acting was so bad that it was hard to believe a performer as skilled as Sharon Gless, who played the indomitable diner owner Debbie Novotny, was asked to put up with it.

But that's what we had. There was a sense, at least among some gay viewers, that the community had to watch Queer as Folk, just to prove there was an audience out there for gay shows. What if it failed and we never saw another queer romance on television?

Fortunately, it didn't fail. It ran for five seasons and 83 episodes, breaking down wall after wall along the way. The aforementioned L Word and Noah's Arc followed in its footsteps, as did series as disparate as Looking, Queer Eye, Please Like Me, and It's a Sin. (The latter was created by Russell T. Davies, who also created the original, British version of Queer as Folk)

And now the legacy continues with Peacock's new iteration, which premieres June 9. The action has moved to New Orleans and the cast is more diverse, including many people of color, as well as trans and nonbinary artists. Still, the core of the show is the same: a group of queer friends experiences soap opera-level melodrama, has lots of enthusiastic sex, and tries to navigate the complexity of living freely in modern times. There are subplots about babies, nightclub shootings, and hooking up in bathrooms. There are accomplished older actresses on hand to lend credibility (this time it's Kim Cattrall and Juliette Lewis, who play the mothers of two leading characters.)

And frankly, there are many of the same old issues with writing and acting. As a brand, it seems Queer as Folk is destined to be heavy-handed and awkward. For instance, when a nonbinary professor talks with their trans partner about identity issues, they end the conversation by saying, "You're gonna give me this beautiful speech about trans-ness and sex and self-worth? Nothing could turn me on more." The only people who speak this way are fictional characters forced to embody political sentiments instead of human emotions. The same goes for the gay man who flirts with a teenage drag queen saying, "There's nothing more powerful than a young gay person at the club." That's hardly passable as the opening sentence of a college paper, let alone a pickup line at a bar.

Still, there's likely to be an audience for this show. It's easy to imagine viewers who are hungry to see these issues discussed so bluntly and see so many types of queer people in the narrative mix. It would be fantastic if the series found a fan base, but even better, queer audiences who don't like it don't have to watch in order to see themselves on TV. Instead, they can turn to First KillorHeartstopper or Crush or Transparent or Pose or Legendary or AJ and the Queen. Or they can watch one of the many queer series and filmspremeiring this very week, including the second season ofP-Valleyon Starz, the Discovery+ docuseriesGeneration DragandThe Book of Queer, and the Hulu filmFire Island.

In other words, because the world made good on the promise of the first American version of Queer as Folk, this new one doesn't have to be for everyone. And that meanseverybody wins.

All eight Season 1 episodes of Queer as Folk drop Thursday June 8th on Peacock.

Severe Asthma Overview

Asthma is the most common chronic respiratory disease all over the globe. It affects the airways in the lungs, which become inflamed and narrowed due to various triggers, making it harder for air to flow out. It is a complex activity between airway inflammation and airway remodelling that results in airway hyper-responsiveness (AHR), which further leads to variable and excessive airway contraction. The characteristic Asthma symptoms include wheezing, shortness of breath, cough, a sensation of tightness in the chest, straining of neck and chest muscles, rapid breathing, and changes in heart rate.

Asthma classification can be broadly done into intermittent or persistent. Here, Persistent asthma is further sub-divided based on severity into mild, moderate, and severe. Severe Asthma occurs due to various genetic, environmental, and psychological factors as well as respiratory infections. Severe Asthma symptoms appear often in the nighttime with a persistent airflow obstruction with a forced expiratory volume (FEV1) of less than 60% predicted before treatment.

Based upon response to treatment, Severe Asthma is further classified into type-2 inflammation and non-type-2 inflammation. Type-2 inflammation includes allergic asthma and eosinophilic asthma (or e-asthma) while non-type-2 inflammation includes non-eosinophilic asthma.

Severe Asthma Epidemiology Segmentation

As per the assessment of DelveInsight, the total diagnosed prevalent (adult + pediatric) cases of Asthma in the 7MM was observed to be approximately 54 million cases in 2021. These cases are expected to increase by 2032.

As per DelveInsight's estimates, among 7MM, the United States had the highest diagnosed cases of adult Asthma with almost 20 million cases in 2021.

Severe Asthma Market Outlook

The fundamental goal of Asthma therapy is to minimize airway inflammation and also reduce the Asthma symptoms that come with it. To limit the likelihood of exacerbation, guidelines-based care focuses on illness severity and selecting the right medicinal therapy. Inhaled corticosteroids are the most common chronic asthma treatment, but quick-relief (reliever) or rescue medications are frequently used to reduce acute Asthma symptoms. Short-acting beta-agonists (SABAs) relieve airway bronchoconstriction quickly and are indicated as a symptom-relieving rescue drug. If asthma still isn't under control, long-acting beta 2 agonists (LABA), montelukast, or theophylline are added. If Asthma symptoms and flare-ups persist, oral corticosteroids are prescribed.

There are currently six US FDA approved monoclonal antibodies for add-on biological Severe Asthma treatment. They include Cinqair (reslizumab) Teva Pharmaceutical, Dupixent (dupilumab) Sanofi, and Regeneron, Fasenra (benralizumab) AstraZeneca/Kyowa Kirin, Tezspire (tezepelumab) AstraZeneca and Amgen, Nucala (mepolizumab) GlaxoSmithKline, and Xolair (omalizumab) Novartis/Genentech.

Several new severe asthma therapeutic options are currently being developed. The key assets include GSK3511294 (Depemokimab) by GlaxoSmithKline, PT010 (Breztri/Trixeo/BGF MDI (budesonide-glycopyrrolate-formoterol inhalation)) by AstraZeneca, and PT027 (BDA MDI/Budesonide/albuterol sulfate metered-dose inhaler) by AstraZeneca and Bond Avillion. They are in the late stage of development and are expected to launch in the forecasted period (2022-2032). Several other companies are also developing drugs for Severe Asthma treatment including Novartis (CSJ117), 4D pharma (MRx-4DP0004), Roche (RG6173), Pieris Pharma, and AstraZeneca (PRS-060/AZD1402), Biosion (BSI-045B), among others.

Severe AsthmaMarket Dynamics

Severe Asthma market growth in the coming years is dependent on several factors such as an increase in the diagnosed prevalent population of Severe Asthma and increasing demand for personalized therapies. Also, the development of well-designed, randomized, controlled non-crossover trials with the potential benefits for patients will drive the Severe Asthma market growth in the forecast period. In addition to that, approvals and entry of new drugs will change the Severe Asthma market dynamics in the future. Several pharmaceutical giants are investigating drugs for Severe Asthma treatment with an improved diagnostic approach leading to a rise in the Severe Asthma market in the coming years.

On the other hand, a lack of effective specific treatments in non-eosinophilic asthma (NEA) can represent an orphan asthma endotype serving as a drawback in the Severe Asthma market growth. Other factors such as a high cost of treatment, limitations in diagnosis, incorrect inhaler techniques, and poor adherence to treatment can all be considered as potential barriers to the rise of the Severe Asthma market.

LVIS, QC, June 8, 2022 /CNW/ - Davie, Canada's largest and highest capacity shipbuilder, announced today that the Government of Canada has officially confirmed its progress to the final stage of becoming a National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) partner. This will see Davie deliver to Canada a range of vessels including a new fleet of state-of-the-art heavy icebreakers.

Davie will now begin negotiating an umbrella agreement with the Government of Canada, with completion later this year.

"After a rigorous process, we are proud that Canada has confirmed that our submissions were fully compliant. We commend the government for this vote of confidence in our experience, our expertise and our amazing people,'' said James Davies, President and CEO of Davie Shipbuilding.

Davie's entry to the NSS will bring major long-term economic benefits to Qubec and Canada as a whole. It will create or sustain up to 5,000 jobs, according to recent independent analysis. This will include well-paid, long-term careers for Davie's highly skilled shipbuilders, who recently agreed to a historic nine-year union collective agreement. Davie's 1,500+ pan-Canadian supplier network will directly benefit from the huge uptick in activity.

"This historic announcement is a testament to the hard work of everyone associated with Davie. We are now a huge step closer to delivering a new fleet of advanced, mission-critical vessels, including icebreakers which will help protect and promote Canada's interests in its domestic waters including the St. Lawrence, the Arctic, and beyond," added Mr.Davies.

In the future, Davie will be central to the development of a cleaner, greener, sustainable marine industry that will serve Canada's economic, social and geopolitical interests. It willfoster innovation and create global export potential for highly specialized products technologies and services made in Canada.

In honor of LGBTQI+ Pride Month, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo hosted a ceremony today with Commerce employees and announced the Department will fly the Progress Pride Flag at the Herbert C. Hoover Building throughout the month of June. The Progress Pride Flag celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQI+ community, including trans and non-binary individuals, and marginalized communities of color, and symbolizes the values of pride, tolerance, and harmony in an environment that enables all employees to perform to their best potential.

With this flag, were reaffirming our support for the LGBTQI+ members of the Commerce team, and the Biden administrations commitment to building a more inclusive society for all Americans, said Secretary Raimondo.

The theme for this years Commerce Pride Month is Resilience celebrating the strength, perseverance, and fight for equality of the LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month is an opportunity to reflect on the incredible strength, perseverance, and progress of the LGBTQI+ community.

To help the American economy grow, and deliver our varied and critical services with excellence, we must operate in a climate of mutual respect for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, said Raimondo.

During her remarks to employees, Secretary Raimondo stated that they are working to advance inclusivity within Commerce including preparing a Gender Identity Protections policy, using gender neutral language in agency policies and procedures, and launching a Safe Zone initiative at the Commerce Learning Center to foster a culture of equity and allyship.

Secretary Raimondo also noted that members of the transgender and gender non-conforming community are facing record levels of violence and we need to remember that for too many Americans, the fight to live freely and authentically is far from over.

In too many places, workers can still be fired solely based on who they love. As we celebrate Pride Month, lets also recommit ourselves to staying in the fight for equality, inclusion, and respect for all members of the LGBTQI+ community.

Todays ceremony took place outside the main 14th Street entrance to HCHB. The Department of Commerce (DOC) is proud to join the Biden Administration and the nation in commemorating Pride Month. Please take time to read the Presidential Proclamation for LGBTQI+ Pride Month.

Wife says Fettermans doctors really impressed with his progress – The Hill

Posted: at 4:36 am

Pennsylvania Democratic Senate nominee John Fettermans wife, Gisele Fetterman, said in a new interview that doctors are very happy with how he is healing from his stroke.

The neurologists, they were really impressed with the progress. Cognitively, hes perfect and well on his way to a full recovery, Gisele Fetterman told Politico. Everything went well with the cardiologists. His heart is looking good. Pacemaker is working as its supposed to.

She added, however, that the doctors at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital want him to continue to rest.

Gisele Fetterman told the news outlet that doctors are not yet sure when it will be safe for her husband to return to the campaign trail, noting that the campaign will have an announcement for that soon.

John Fetterman suffers from a heart condition known as atrial fibrillation, which doctors attribute as the cause of his stroke. A pacemaker with a defibrillator was implanted into his heart following the stroke.

The hearts working great. The pacemaker helps regulate the A-fib, Gisele Fetterman, who has taken on the role of speaking for her husband to the press and updating the public on his condition, said to Politico.

John Fetterman, the current Pennsylvania lieutenant governor, suffered the stroke just before the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary election last month. He defeated Rep.Conor Lamb(R-Pa.) in the primary and was then congratulated by President Biden.

Its currently still unclear whom he will face in November.

Pennsylvania officials last week officially ordered a recount in the neck-and-neck Republican Senate primary election between Mehmet Oz and Dave McCormick, who are separated by 902 votes, or 0.1 percentage points. Under state law, a recount is triggered if two candidates are separated by 0.5 percentage points or fewer.
