Nauru Maps & Facts – World Atlas
Posted: at 2:23 am
Covering an area of only 21 sq.km (8.1sqmi), Nauru is an island nation and a microstate in Oceania, located in southwestern Pacific Ocean. Nauru is a raised, fossilized coral atoll and is one of the three great phosphate rock islands in the Pacific Ocean. The island is dominated by a central phosphate plateau which is surrounded by coral cliffs. A century of phosphate mining has stripped four-fifths of the total land area and has left behind a barren terrain.
Coral reefs surround the island and are exposed at low tide being dotted with pinnacles. The island is ringed by windswept palm trees and a sandy beach. Inward from the beach lies a wide fertile coastal strip of 150-300m. The highest point of the plateau is Command Ridge at an elevation of 233ft (71m). Due to presence of reefs, there are no harbors or protected anchorages.
There are no rivers and lakes on the Island; only a landlocked, freshwater lake Buada Lagoon is found in the Buada district of the Island. The lowest point is the South Pacific Ocean (0m).
Nauru (officially, the Republic of Nauru) is divided into 14 administrative districts. These districts are: Aiwo, Anabar, Anetan, Anibare, Baitsi, Boe, Buada, Denigomodu, Ewa, Ijuw, Meneng, Nibok, Uaboe and Yaren. These districts are further divided into villages.
Covering an area of only 21 sq.km, the Micronesian island nation of Nauru is the worlds smallest republic and a microstate in Oceania, located in southwestern Pacific Ocean. The island nation has the worlds 3rd smallest land area and has no official capital city. Located on the southern coast of the island country is, the district of Yaren the de facto capital of Nauru. It houses the legislature and a number of government offices. Situated in the western part of the island nation is, Denigomodu the largest and the most populous district of Nauru.
Nauru is an island nation and a microstate in Oceania, located in southwestern Pacific Ocean. It is geographically positioned to the south of the Equator and hence lies both in the Southern and Eastern hemispheres of the Earth. Nauru is situated to the northeast of Sydney (Australia) and the Solomon Islands, to the east of Banaba Island (Kiribati), to the northwest of Tuvalu, to the east-northeast of Papua New Guinea; to the southeast of the Federated States of Micronesia and to the south of the Marshall Islands.

The Oceania team had no complications to achieve the half ticket granted by the confederation, however, the New Zealand team will have to play with a lot of courage and heart if they want to return to the finals of a World Cup, which they have not achieved since South Africa 2010.
Spain will witness a friendly match between two teams that will have a playoff match for the ticket to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, so this match is perfect for each of its participants.

Volcano Watch: What Other Volcanoes are Currently Erupting on Earth? – Big Island Now
Posted: at 2:23 am
Klauea, one of Earths most active volcanoes, has been on the Smithsonian Institutions Global Volcanism Program list of erupting volcanoes since the current summit eruption began on Sept. 29, 2021.
Prior to that, Klauea was on the list continuously from 1983 to 2018, after which it took a welcome two-year break. Klauea jumped back on the list in December 2020, but quickly dropped off when that eruption ended in May 2021.
Typically, in a given year, 4050 volcanoes erupt, or a bit less than 10% of the worlds active volcanoes. Lets take a look at a few of Klaueas notable contemporaries this year.
As of March 17, the GVP reported 48 volcanoes in an erupting status! This includes volcanoes that may be intermittently erupting without a break of three months or more.
Many of the volcanoes in this list have been erupting recurrently for years to decades to even centuries. Yasur volcano, in the Republic of Vanuatu (South Pacific, Oceania), has been erupting intermittently since at least the year 1774. Stromboli volcano, in Italy, is thought to have been erupting semi-continuously for ten times as long according to Roman records!
The volcano to join the list most recently is Volcan Wolf in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador (South America). Volcan Wolf began erupting on January 6 of this year, with an 8-km (5-mile)-long fissure sending lava flows about 18.5 km (11 miles) down its flanks.
Instituto Geofsico-Escuela Politcnica Nacional, the organization responsible for monitoring volcanic activity in Ecuador, reported that the eruption ceased on May 5. So, Volcan Wolf may not be long on the list of erupting volcanoes, unless the eruption resumes or another eruption begins within the next two months.
Breaking the list of erupting volcanoes down by continent demonstrates how variable in location they are on Earth: 1 in Antarctica, 2 in Europe, 4 in Africa, 4 in North America, 6 in Asia (including 3 on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East), 7 in Central America, 7 in South America, and 17 in Oceania.
Its no surprise that Oceania, much of which lies within the Ring of Fire, dominates the list of locations on Earth with erupting volcanoes. The Ring of Fire outlines the Pacific Ocean, and it is an area where volcanic eruptions and earthquakes are common due to tectonic plate boundaries.
Most of the erupting volcanoes in Oceania, South America, Central America, North America, and Asia are part of the Ring of Fire. Klauea, however, is located on the Hawaiian hot spot in the middle of the Pacific Plate and Ring of Fire.
Well-known volcanoes on the list of erupting volcanoes include Erebus (Antarctica) and Erta Ale (Ethiopia, Africa). Erebus, Erta Ale, and Klauea are three of the eight volcanoes on Earth that are known to host persistent lava lakes.
Lesser-known volcanoes on the list include Dukono in Indonesia (Oceania), Telica in Nicaragua (Central America), and Suwanosejima in Japan (Asia). Dukono occupies the remote island of Halmahera and has been erupting sporadically since 1933. Telica has been erupting intermittently since April 2021 whereas Suwanosejima has been doing so since October 2004.
Domestically, four volcanoes in the United States make the GVP list of volcanoes in an erupting status, including Klauea and three volcanoes in Alaska: Pavlof, on the Alaska Peninsula, has been on the list since August 2021; Great Sitkin, in the central Aleutian Islands, since May 2021, and Semisopochnoi, in the western Aleutian Islands, since February 2021.
So far, this discussion has been human-centric, only considering the volcanoes that we can see. But hidden deep beneath the ocean surface are volcanoes that erupt undetected. Though they account for 75% of Earths magma production, mid-ocean ridge volcanoes are poorly understood and usually erupt unseen.
Iceland, where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge comes to the surface, offers us a window into this predominantly submarine world. The recent eruption of Fagradalsfjall volcano, from MarchSeptember 2021, was a spectacular example of mid-ocean ridge volcanism and one of the rare times when a mid-ocean ridge volcano made the GVP list.
If youre curious to learn more about volcanoes and eruptions on Earth over the past 12,000 years, the GVP hosts a Volcanoes of the Word database that you can explore at https://volcano.si.edu/.
Volcano Activity Updates
Klauea volcano is erupting. Its USGS Volcano Alert level is at WATCH (https://www.usgs.gov/natural-hazards/volcano-hazards/about-alert-levels). Klauea updates are issued daily.
Over the past week, lava has continued to erupt from the western vent within Halemaumau crater. All lava is confined within Halemaumau crater in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Sulfur dioxide emission rates remain elevated and were last measured at approximately 3,900 tonnes per day (t/d) on May 31. Seismicity is elevated but stable, with few earthquakes and ongoing volcanic tremor. Summit tiltmeters showed little ground deformation for most of the past week, though deflation began just before midnight on June 1. For more information on the current eruption of Klauea, see https://www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/kilauea/recent-eruption.
Mauna Loa is not erupting and remains at Volcano Alert Level ADVISORY. This alert level does not mean that an eruption is imminent or that progression to an eruption from the current level of unrest is certain. Mauna Loa updates are issued weekly.
This past week, about 30 small-magnitude earthquakes were recorded below the summit and upper elevation flanks of Mauna Loathe majority of these occurred at shallow depths less than 15 kilometers (9 miles) below sea level. Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements show low rates of ground deformation over the past week. Gas concentrations and fumarole temperatures at both the summit and at Sulphur Cone on the Southwest Rift Zone have remained stable over the past week. Webcams show no changes to the landscape. For more information on current monitoring of Mauna Loa, see: https://www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/mauna-loa/monitoring.
One earthquake was reported felt in the Hawaiian Islands during the past week: a M2.2 earthquake 3 km (1 mi) SW of Honalo at 5 km (3 mi) depth on May 31 at 12:46 a.m. HST.
HVO continues to closely monitor Klaueas ongoing eruption and Mauna Loa for any signs of increased activity.

Coast Guard Assists in Patrolling Solomon Islands Exclusive Economic Zone – HS Today – HSToday
Posted: at 2:23 am
The Coast Guard assisted the Solomon Islands this week by patrolling their exclusive economic zone while maintenance was being conducted on the Royal Solomon Islands Police Vessel Taro.
The Coast Guard Cutter Myrtle Hazard (WPC 1139) crew helped to fill the operational presence needed by conducting maritime surveillance to deter illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the northern Solomon Islands.
Through Operation Blue Pacific, the United States Coast Guard looks for opportunities to assist our regional partners with maritime governance and security, said Capt. Craig OBrien, chief of response of Coast Guard District 14. Working closely with the Forum Fisheries Agency and the government of Solomon Islands, it was a privilege for the United States Coast Guard to assist the Solomon Islands while their police vessel was down for maintenance.
This operation was made possible by coordination between the Coast Guard, the Solomon Islands Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police, and the Deputy Commissioner for National Security and Operations.
Before diverting to the Solomon Islands, the Myrtle Hazard was already deployed on an expeditionary patrol spanning five different Pacific Island Countries (PIC) and the high seas in support of Operation Blue Pacific.
Operation Blue Pacific is an overarching multi-mission Coast Guard endeavor promoting security, safety, sovereignty, and economic prosperity in Oceania while strengthening relationships between partners in the region with an emphasis on deterring IUU fishing.
IUU fishing has replaced piracy as the leading global maritime security threat and has the potential to jeopardize the efforts of PICs to conserve fish stocks, an important renewable resource in the region.
Maintaining maritime governance in Oceania with our partners is essential in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific, said OBrien. It is through this collaborative effort and our ability to join forces that we are able to support regional economic prosperity and individual sovereignty.
With a population of approximately 40 million people covering an area of 12.2 million square nautical miles, the Coast Guard and its international partners regularly patrol Oceania to protect and support those who call it home.

Posted: at 2:23 am
Get a chance to win up to 10 million in the S-booster competition, a Japanese space-based idea competition that welcomes business ideas related to the commercial applications of space.
In a statement, the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) said that delegates from the space agencies of Japan and the Philippines were invited to speak on their respective space activities to encourage the contestants on how their ideas will be implemented.
Space Policy and International Cooperation Bureau Director Noelle Riza Castillo represented PhilSA and emphasized the agencys role in space industry development through its various space business development projects.
It is one of the major goals of PhilSA to encourage the growth of a local space industry and economy, Castillo said.
S-Booster is an annual event first launched in 2017 by the Japan Cabinet Office, New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The pitch competition is open to individuals, ventures, startups, and businesses in different industries in Japan and the Asia-Oceania region that seek to commercialize their business ideas utilizing space assets such as rockets, satellites, commercial space stations, ground-based systems and technologies, and space data. .
This years competition was officially launched on June 1 at the DTI International Building in Makati City. The hybrid event was organized by the Japan Cabinet Office and the DTI Competitiveness Bureau, in partnership with the DTI Foreign Trade Service Corps and the DTI Tokyo. DTI Undersecretary for Competitiveness and Innovation Rafaelita Aldaba opened the event and introduced the Departments innovation programs.
Shoichiro Sakaguchi, Director-General of International Cooperation for the Cabinet Office of Japan, introduced the S-Booster competition and presented Japans space program.
Japan is supporting many countries to deploy small microsatellites to orbit from the International Space Station using Kibo Module, this allows access to space in a less expensive way than using large vehicles, Sakaguchi said.
Japan has collaborated with the Philippines through the Diwata satellites, and I hope for continuous collaborations in the future, he said. He mentioned that Japan has been inviting the commercial sector for space ventures and that S-Booster unlocks new space startups in Asia by supporting the commercialization of each idea with Japanese industries, he added.
S-Booster contestants will go through mentorship programs from established companies to refine their pitches. In the final round, presentations will be made to investors and large companies to promote business matching. The winning space idea will receive the grand prize of 10 million.
Applications are open to the Asia and Oceania region. The deadline for applications is on 20 June 2022, 5:00 PM Japan Standard Time (4:00 PM Philippine Standard Time).

Just what are the best PS5 cyberpunk games, we here you say? Well, luckily for you we have this guide which fully explains what the best PS5 cyberpunk games are, ranking them in order of how good we believe them to be. From the deeply layered open-world RPG shenanigans of Cyberpunk 2077, to the fast and furious neon-stained violence party that is The Ascent, these are the best PS5 cyberpunk games ranked that money can buy. For further reading you might want to look at our article which covers the best PS5 detective games and best PS5 indie games. We also have features that details the best PS5 FPS games and best PS5 racing games too. Additionally, you might want to take a look at our best PS5 horror games and best PS5 split-screen games articles too. Further afield, we also have features on the best PS5 fighting games and also everything you need to know about the next generation PlayStation VR headset for PS5.
Best PS5 Cyberpunk Games Ranked:
Theres no getting around the fact that when the endlessly ambitious Cyberpunk 2077 finally released in November 2020, it arguably did so two years early. Rife with all manner of bugs, glitches and performance issues, Cyberpunk 2077 fell tragically short of the high bar of expectation that both fans and developer CDProjektRED had set for the game. Quite simply, this wasnt what we wanted from the developer that brought us the multiple Game of the Award winning RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However fast forward to May 2022 and something of a comeback story has emerged.
With its leap to PS5 Cyberpunk 2077 not only banishes many of the performance issues that plagued the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions, but it also benefits from a year and a halfs worth of patches and updates to shore up the games many, many rough edges. Now in something approximating a decent state, Cyberpunk 2077s brilliance finally shines through presenting players with a breath-taking, open-world cyberpunk setting full of possibility, non-linear storytelling, immersive combat and atmosphere thick enough that you could slices off of it. If youve been holding off playing Cyberpunk 2077, now is the time to pull the trigger and throw yourself headfirst into one of the most compelling cyberpunk games ever made.
Though the trusty twin-stick shooter is one of the oldest gaming genres around, The Ascent brings it screamingly up to date with an arresting cyberpunk setting and relentlessly ferocious shooting action. Putting players in the tattered shoes of a worker on a far-flung, off-world colony, tirelessly toiling every day to eek out something resembling an existence that neither satisfies nor feels worthwhile.
However, after the company which enslaves you goes dark, all of the power structures that exist in the colony collapse, as gangs and other factions scrabble to take over whatever remains while the colony itself begins to decay. Tasked with uncovering the mystery that is behind the abdication of your corporate overlords responsibilities, The Ascent has you blasting, exploding and carving a path to the top of the colony either solo or in co-op as you complete side missions, upgrade your gear and takedown massive, screen filling bosses. With ridiculously satisfying twin-stick shooting action with firearms that have real oomph and boasting some of the best visuals seen on PS5, The Ascent is one cyberpunk odyssey you dont want to sleep on.
Developed by Layers of Fear and Blair Witch horror outfit Bloober Team, Observer: System Redux is set in a grimy cyberpunk future where players take on the role of Daniel Lazarski, an elite detective who uses his neural hacking skills to enter the minds and dreams of his suspects in order to solve a murderous conspiracy.
Though the casting of late cyberpunk icon Rutger Hauer is an inspired one, so too is the game world that Observer: System Redux presents, depicting a hyper-wired, neon-stained world that is falling into ruin and decay as minds become separated from bodies and souls simply cease to be. Boasting hugely impressive 4K resolution visuals running at 60 frames per second, with added ray tracing and other graphical effects, Observer: System Redux has never looked better than it does on PS5 and really is a one-of-a-kind cyberpunk detective adventure unlike any other.
If you can imagine Mirrors Edge crossed with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance youve basically got Ghostrunner. Sort of. An eye-searing marriage of otherworldly dextrous parkour and stylishly vicious melee combat, Ghostrunners premise is refreshingly simple. Mara the Keymaster rules a towered city with a cruel, iron fist and must be gotten rid of in the most violent way possible. See? Simples.
In practice, Ghostrunner is a punishingly (though enjoyably) difficult, first-person perspective parkour sword murder effort where you can be killed in a single hit and where the emphasis is on hyper-agile traversal and chaining together bloody combos to eviscerate your foes. Depicted in a retina-roasting 4K resolution at 60 frames per second with additional ray tracing modes and the ability to activate a buttery smooth 120 frames per second (for those lucky enough to own a HDMI 2.1 compliant display), Ghostrunner is the furiously agile, cyberpunk murder sim you always knew you wanted.

5 Things We’re Excited For in PlayStation’s State of Play – Nerdvana
Posted: at 2:22 am
PlayStation revealed many games that would be making their way onto the platform in the coming months ...
PlayStations State of Play is a digital event where several games and studios are spotlighted. This years proved to be full of exciting announcements, with some landing far more quickly than expected.
Final Fantasy XVI has long been in the works but very little has been seen or heard of it. Director Yoshida Naoki made a brief video appearance sharing news that the game was close to finishing development (the further info revealing that the game is playable start to finish). The trailer was then broadcast, giving gamers a bombastic look at the newest entry. The trailer shared looks at summon fights, new characters, combat, and soaring music with a release window of Summer 2023.
Capcom came out swinging for the State of Play, chief among their announcements was the Street Fighter 6 trailer being dropped. The latest entry showed off a sort of exploration mode, new characters, and a fresh spin on the art style. The video focused mostly on cinematics and environment, but did give a piece of key information that the game would be coming out next year.
The adventures of a stray kitten with a backpack traipsing around a cyberpunk-looking city charmed gamers to no end last year. This year Annapurna confirmed that the game would be releasing sooner than expected, and on PlayStation Plus. Stray will be released on PlayStation 4 and 5 on July 19. It will also be featured as a bonus game for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tier members.
Sure there were the likes of Marvels Spiderman getting a PC release, but that didnt mean there wasnt plenty of room for several indie titles to share the stage. Among the announcements was that adventure game with adorable fox, Tunic, would be making its PlayStation 4 and 5 debut on Sept. 27. A gorgeous and serene looking tale Season: a Letter to the Future would be making a splash this fall on PlayStation 4 and 5 (give the trailer a look above!). For fans of weaponry and rollerskates, the two are combined in Rollerdrome, slated to come out for PS4 and PS5 this August.
If gamers enjoyed Dead Space, they are sure to enjoy the upcoming Callisto Protocol from the same creator. The trailer reveals a prisoner fighting to survive against mutated creatures in a space prison. The game stirs the same terrifying imagery its spiritual predecessor is known for, but looks to have a few twists of its own. Callisto Protocol is slated for release on Dec. 2 for the PlayStation 4 and 5.

Agtech robotics firm FarmWise just raised another $45 million – TechCrunch
Posted: at 2:21 am
The rest of the startup universe may be struggling to bring in funds, but its still a good time to get a robotic raise. Agtech is high on that list. The median age of farmers is 55 years old in the United States, and finding human help is increasingly more difficult of late.
FarmWise has been at this for a while, deploying its autonomous weeding robotics at farms in California and Arizona for the last few years. The Central Californian company says its robots have logged 15,000 commercial hours on vegetable farms, all told, capturing some 450 million scans of crops for its database.
Today the company announced a $45 million raise, led by Fall Line Capital and Middleland Capital. GV, Taylor Farms, Calibrate Ventures, Playground Global, SVG Ventures and Wilbur Ellis also got in on the Series B, which brings FarmWises total equity raise to $65 million, to date.
The funding will go toward accelerating the firms R&D and rollout of its existing product.
We started FarmWise with the conviction that farmers should be supplied with cost-effective, sustainable solutions to feed a growing world, and artificial intelligence is the ideal technology to make this a reality, co-founder and CEO, Sebastien Boyer said in a release. With rising costs in the agricultural industry, were continuing to expand our technology to work with many more farmers.
The round also finds Fall Line Capital co-founder and managing director, Clay Mitchell, joining its board.

Announcing the full agenda for TC Sessions: Robotics happening this July – TechCrunch
Posted: at 2:21 am
Were extremely excited we can finally unveil the agenda for this years TC Sessions: Robotics happening 100% online on July 21. Its a tremendous labor of love for our team, and something weve been thinking about since the last time we held the show, way back in early March 2020. Its difficult to put into words how much the world has changed since then, and the world of robotics, AI and automation has fundamentally transformed along with it.
It wasnt that long ago when every conversation about the space came with the same caveat: this will change the way we live five to 10 years from now. As the world shut down and suffered labor shortages, it became clear that suddenly that time is now.
During the pandemic, weve charted the massive growth across all sectors of robotics, and while VC money is slowing for nearly every startup category, robotics investments continue at a pace not seen before 2020. Frankly, theres never been a better time to put on a robotics event, and fittingly, we can confidently say that weve never put on a robotics event as good as this.
Weve got headliners like the U.S. secretary of labor, Marty Walsh; inventor Dean Kamen; and Amazons VP of Global Robotics, Joseph Quinlivan. MIT CSAIL director Daniela Rus will be in conversation with CMUs head of robotics, Matthew Johnson-Roberson, as will robotics HRI experts Rod Brooks and Clara Vu. Well also be speaking with top VCs and the CEOs of Boston Dynamics, Sarcos, Locus Robotics, Fetch and more, along with demos from researchers and bleeding-edge startups like Agility.
Best of all, you can catch all of these sessions and join the robotics community online with speed networking, chats and one-on-one meetings by registering here for free.
Theres never been a better time to talk robotics, and we feel confident in saying theres never been a better group of experts to discuss it with. Youll find the full schedule for the July 21 event below. We hope youre as excited as we are.
Robotics are set to profoundly impact the future of how America works. Automation is an inevitability, but is the U.S. truly prepared for the coming impact? Labor secretary Marty Walsh will discuss what employers and regulators need to do to brace for these radical changes.
As funding has dried up for many startups, robotics have weathered the storm quite well. The pandemic has fueled investments in the category as more companies look toward automated solutions, and the trend shows no sign of slowing anytime soon.
If youre looking for the bleeding edge of robotics and AI research, youve come to the right place. MIT CSAIL head Daniela Rus and CMUs new head of robotics, Matthew Johnson-Roberson, will join us to discuss how schools are helping redefine robotics.
Logistics and fulfillment may well be the hottest category in robotics at the moment. Locus Robotics, Zebra Technologies (Fetch) and Berkshire Grey are helping define the space. Their automation is working to improve delivery times, manage inventory, assist their human counterparts and stay competitive.
Amazons huge bet on robotics dates back to its 2012 acquisition of Kiva Systems. Over the past decade, its a gamble that has paid off immeasurably as the retailer has become the 800-pound gorilla in any conversation about warehouse automation. VP Joseph Quinlivan will discuss what the company is doing to maintain its edge.
The industrys brightest entrepreneurs will take the stage in front of a live audience and a panel of industry experts, pitching revolutionary technologies. Founders applyhere.
From the Segway to iBot to AutoSyringe, Dean Kamen has made a name for himself as one of the biggest inventors of the past 50 years. In 1989, he decided to give back with the launch of FIRST, an organization that promotes STEM education. Hell discuss his creations and the work hes doing to inspire the next generation of inventors.
What does it take to bring a robot or AI process from the lab to market? Learn from experience with The Engine general partner Milo Werner, academic-commercial crossover specialist Joyce Sidopoulos of MassRobotics and Pieter Abbeel, who splits his time between UC Berkeley and Covariant, the well-funded AI outfit he founded.
As robots and AI begin to pervade everyday life, we must take lessons from industry and academic research on how to coexist safely and productively. Rod Brooks and Clara Vu both bring years of expertise to the question and can speak to whats needed in hardware, software and beyond to bring the lives of robots and humans closer together.
Weve seen the demos and the viral videos, but moving from research to real world is its own complex journey. The CEOs of Boston Dynamics and Sarcos will discuss the process of bringing their robots to market, from pilot testing to scaling manufacturing.
We cant wait to see you online at TC Sessions: Robotics with these visionaries along with the global robotics community on July 21! Register now to get your access to all of these sessions and so much more here!
