Who Is Defending and Who Is Criticizing the Nine Years of Francis’s Pontificate? (2) – FSSPX.News

Posted: May 3, 2022 at 10:03 pm

In this particular climate, two facts hold must be considered: a discreet meeting organized on March 25 and 26 in the United States, by the defenders of Francis course; and an anonymous memorandum addressed to the cardinals at the beginning of Lent, which was very severe on the current pontificate. The meeting was explained in the previous article.

An anonymous memorandum against the current pontificate

On March 15, the Vaticanist Sandro Magister published the text of a memorandum on his blog Settimo Cielo, which he presented in these terms: Since the beginning of Lent, the cardinals who will elect the future pope have been passing this memorandum around. Its author, who goes by the name of Demos, people in Greek, is unknown, but shows himself a thorough master of the subject. It cannot be ruled out that he himself is a cardinal.

Here are the most significant excerpts from this document, which is divided into two parts: The Vatican Today and The Next Conclave.

The Vatican Today

Commentators of every school, if for different reasons, with the possible exception of Father Spadaro, SJ, [director of the Jesuit review La Civilt Cattolica, and very close to Francis], agree that this pontificate is a disaster in many or most respects; a catastrophe.

1 - Previously, we said: Roma locuta. Causa finita est [Rome has spoken, the case is closed]. Today we say: Roma loquitur, confusio augetur [Rome speaks, confusion increases].

(A) The German synod speaks on homosexuality, women priests, communion for the divorced [and remarried]. The papacy is silent.

(B) Cardinal Hollerich rejects Christian teaching on sexuality. The papacy is silent.

(C) This silence is emphasized when contrasted with the active persecution of the Traditionalists and the contemplative orders.

2 - The Christocentric dimension of the teaching is being weakened, Christ is being removed from the center. Sometimes Rome even seems to be confused about the importance of strict monotheism, hinting at a wider concept of divinity; not quite pantheism, but like a Hindu pantheism variant. Here Demos denounces the worship of the Pachamama during the synod on the Amazon in 2019.

(C) The Academy for Life is gravely damaged, e.g., some members recently supported assisted suicide. The Pontifical Academies have members and visiting speakers who support abortion.

3 - The lack of respect for the law in the Vatican risks becoming an international scandal. These issues have been crystallized through the present Vatican trial of ten accused of financial malpractices, but the problem is older and wider.

(D) The pope sometimes (often) rules by papal decrees (motu proprio) which eliminate the right to appeal of those affected.

4 - (A) The financial situation of the Vatican is grave. For the past ten years (at least), there have nearly always been financial deficits. Before COVID, these deficits ranged around 20 million annually. For the last three years, they have been around 30-35 million annually.

5 - The political influence of Pope Francis and the Vatican is negligible. Intellectually, Papal writings demonstrate a decline from the standard of St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict. Decisions and policies are often politically correct, but there have been grave failures to support human rights in Venezuela, Hong Kong, mainland China, and now during the Russian invasion.

There has been no public support for the loyal Catholics in China who have been intermittently persecuted for their loyally to the Papacy for more than 70 years. No public Vatican support for the Catholic community in Ukraine, especially the Greek Catholics.

These issues should be revisited by the next Pope. The Vaticans political prestige is now at a low ebb.

6 - The Covid crisis has covered up the large decline in the number of pilgrims attending papal audiences and Masses.

The Holy Father has little support among seminarians and young priests and widespread disaffection exists within the Vatican Curia.

The Next Conclave

1 - The College of Cardinals has been weakened by eccentric nominations and has not been reconvened after the rejection of Cardinal Kaspers views in the 2014 consistory. [February 20, 2014, on the question of communion granted to remarried divorcees, before the double synod on the family of October 2014 and October 2015. Ed]. Many cardinals are unknown to one another, adding a new dimension of unpredictability to the next conclave.

2 - After Vatican II, Catholic authorities have often underestimated the hostile power of secularization, the world, the flesh, and the devil, especially in the Western world and have overestimated the influence and strength of the Catholic Church.

We are weaker than 50 years ago and many factors are beyond our control, in the short term at least, e.g. declining numbers of believers, the frequency of Mass attendance, the demise or extinction of many religious orders.

3 - The Pope does not need to be the worlds best evangelist, nor a political force. The successor of Peter, as head of the College of Bishops, also successors of the Apostles, has a foundational role for unity and doctrine. The new pope must understand that the secret of Christian and Catholic vitality comes from fidelity to the teachings of Christ and Catholic practices. It does not come from adapting to the world or from money.

4. The first tasks of the new pope will be to restore normality, restore doctrinal clarity in faith and morals, restore a proper respect for the law and ensure that the first criterion for the nomination of bishops is acceptance of the apostolic tradition.

5 - If the synod gatherings continue around the world, they will consume much time and money, probably distracting energy from evangelization and service rather than deepening these essential activities.

If the national or continental synods are given doctrinal authority, we will have a new danger to world-wide Church unity, whereby, e.g., the German church holds doctrinal views not shared by other Churches and not compatible with the apostolic tradition.

If there were no Roman correction of such heresy, the Church would be reduced to a loose federation of local Churches, holding different views, probably closer to an Anglican or Protestant model, than an Orthodox model.

An early priority for the next pope must be to remove and prevent such a threatening development, by requiring unity in essentials and not permitting unacceptable doctrinal differences. The morality of homosexual activity will be one such flash point.

7 - Despite the dangerous decline in the West and the inherent fragility and instability in many places, serious consideration should be given to the feasibility of a visitation on the Jesuit order. They are in a situation of catastrophic numerical decline from 36,000 members during the Council to less than 16,000 in 2017 (with probably 20-25% above 75 years of age). In some places, there is catastrophic moral decline.

8 - The disastrous decline in Catholic numbers and Protestant expansion in South America should be addressed. It was scarcely mentioned in the Amazonian Synod.

9. Obviously, a lot of work is needed on the financial reforms in the Vatican, but this should not be the most important criterion in the selection of the next Pope.

The Vatican has no substantial debts but continuing annual deficits will eventually lead to bankruptcy. Obviously, steps will be taken to remedy this, to separate the Vatican from criminal accomplices and balance revenue and expenditure. The Vatican will need to demonstrate competence and integrity to attract substantial donations to help with this problem.

Despite the improved financial procedures and greater clarity, continuing financial pressures represent a major challenge, but they are much less important than the spiritual and doctrinal threats facing the Church, especially in the First World.

At the beginning of the tenth year of his pontificate, Pope Francis is supported by those who want more and more from Vatican II; it is criticized by those who note a development of doctrines incompatible with the apostolic tradition, and who fear seeing the Catholic Church reduced to a loose federation of local Churches, holding different views, probably closer to an Anglican or Protestant model, than an Orthodox model, if there were no Roman correction of such heresy.

On November 21, 1974, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre declared that fidelity to eternal Rome, mistress of wisdom and truth necessarily implied the refusal to follow the Rome of neo-Modernist and neo-Protestant tendencies which were clearly evident in the Second Vatican Council and, after the Council, in all the reforms which issued from it.

All these reforms, indeed, have contributed and are still contributing to the destruction of the Church, to the ruin of the priesthood, to the abolition of the Sacrifice of the Mass and of the sacraments, to the disappearance of religious life, to a naturalist and Teilhardian teaching in universities, seminaries and catechectics; a teaching derived from Liberalism and Protestantism, many times condemned by the solemn Magisterium of the Church.

In the eyes of some, what he said then seemed an exaggeration. Today it is an observation shared by many. But for this lucid analysis to be effective, we must not stop at the observed facts, we must also go back to their proven causes:

It is impossible, the missionary prelate added, to modify profoundly the lex orandi without modifying the lex credendi. To the Novus Ordo Missae [New Order Mass] correspond a new catechism, a new priesthood, new seminaries, new universities, a charismatic Pentecostal Churchall things opposed to orthodoxy and the perennial teaching of the Church.

In order for a question to be authentic, it has to be a concrete historical question, which means that it should take into consideration the governing tendency in the development of the world. The question of the nature of Martin Heideggers philosophy should also be a concrete historical question. It is one thing when a question is asked in a blossoming field and quite the other when it is asked on the brink of the abyss. The concrete historical question is the following: Does Heideggers thought indicate the processes that lead to the destruction of man and nature, and does it offer a possibility to step out from capitalist civilization into a civilization of freedom, where man will live in harmony with nature?

Heideggers philosophy should be given a chance to appear as concrete historical thought in the relation of destruction to life-creation, i.e., destructive mindlessness to life-creating mind. Only relative to the minds libertarian and life-creating potential can a concrete historical meaning of Heideggers philosophy be perceived. Life on Earth is increasingly threatened and everything that possesses a life-creating potential should be included in the fight for survival. The essential criterion to determine whether a thought is reasonable is whether it contributes to the preservation of life on Earth.

A life-creating humanism should become the basis for the minds self-reflextion and, as such, the source of the self-consciouness of man as a life-creating being that, through his life-creating practice, should confront capitalism as a destructive totalitarian order. Guided by the life-creating mind and relying on a combative sociability, man should abolish the consumer society and technical civilisation and create a humane society and a life-creating civilisation, which will be the organic part of nature as a life-creating totality. We are talking about a life-creating pantheism, which creates not only a new life, but a new world.

For Heideggers followers, his philosophy is the only framework within which the question of its essence and meaning is possible. Philosophical legitimacy of any discussion of Heideggers philosophy is acquired by its becoming a self-reflexion of Heideggers philosophy. Fundamental ontology becomes a synthesis of everything valuable that appears in the realm of the mind. It acquires the status of the only true philosophy and as such becomes the criterion used to determine the legitimacy of philosophical thought. Fundamental ontology becomes the other name for true mindfulness.

Bourgeiois theoreticians seek to analyse Heideggers thought departing from philosophy as an objective sphere with a supra-historical character. Thus, Heideggers philosophy becomes an abstract thought. They use Heideggers philosophy to eliminate the visionary mind and, thereby, any possible spaces for the future. Heideggers philosophy heralds the end of history. At the same time, bourgeois philosophers appeal to Heidegger so that, in the shadow of his philosophy, they might obtain philosophical legitimacy for their own writings. They treat Heidegger in the same way Heidegger treats Being (Sein). To be in Heideggers neighbourhood ensures immortality in the world of philosophy.

The most important reason for Heideggers popularity with the bourgeois intelligentsia is that his philosophy enables the preservation of the elitist status of philosophy and thus the elitist status of the academic intelligentsia. His fundamental ontology becomes the philosophical Holy Scripture, whereas his interpretors become the guardians of the keys of wisdom. Bourgeois philosophy turned Heidegger into a myth and made his philosophy one of the key intelllectual pillars of Western civilization.

The production of the myth of Heidegger and other great philosophers serves to create a sectarian single-mindedness and elitist self-sufficiency of the bourgeois intelligentsia. Its members voluntarily accept the ghettoization of the mind at academic faculties and other exclusive intellectual domains, since it gives them freedom and a comfortable life. Such social position releases them from responsibility for the survival of life on the planet and from the risk that a struggle against the ruling order entails.

The representatives of traditional philosophy base their relation to Heideggers philosophy on existential apriorism. By becoming a totalitarian order of destruction, capitalism descredited that point of departure. The insistance on such an approach deprives Heideggers thought of a concrete historical dimension and turns the discussion of Heideggers thought into intellectual gymnastics with an abstract character. The traditional philosophical approach to Heidegger not only sterilizes the life-creating potentials of his thought, but also averts the mind from the basic existential issues currently facing humankind ever more dramatically. Consumer society is the final confrontation with a thought grounded in existential apriorism.

A demystification of Heideggers philosophy involves the emancipation of Heideggers thought from philosophy, which means discarding the philosophical veil under which his thought loses any concrete historical character and becomes abstract thought. Heidegger must be drawn away from the gloominess of philosophical gibberish into the light of history and treated as a concrete social being, whereas his philosophy should be treated as concrete historical thought. Only then can we discover both its limits and its emancipatory potential. At the same time, a concrete historical discussion of Heideggers philosophy is possible only if it does not fall into the trap of his philosophical rhetoric. It is a labyrinth without exit, where, in hopeless wandering, the mind loses its life-creating power.

In addition to ancient Greek philosophy, Heidegger found the source and inspiration for his ideas in the philosophy of St. Augustine, Meister Eckhart, Franz Brentano, Fridrich Schelling, Friedrich Hlderline, Srene Kierkegaard, Friedrich Nietzsche, Rainer Maria Rilke, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Wilhelm Dilthey, Edmund Husserl, in thaoism and other Far-Easterm religions. In order to grasp the true nature of Heideggers philosophy, we should also bear in mind the ideas and political movements relative to which Heidegger sought to build his philosophy.

Rather than in theory, a concrete historical source of Heideggers thought is to be found in the reality of life in Germany in the first half of the 20th century. Only when Heideggers philosophy is viewed in the context of historical events in which it occurred can we discover its true nature. We are talking about German expansionism; the crisis of capitalism and the First World War; Germanys defeat and the collapse of the German Empire; the Munich Revolution and the development of the communist movement; the founding and fall of the Weimer Republic; the development of German revanchism and the rise of fascism; the thrust toward the East and the collapse of Nazi Germany Heideggers philosophy was only possible on German soil.

There is no denying that Heideggers philosophy has an authenticity reflected not only in its specific parlance, but also in the specific treatment of basic philosophical questions. Essentially, Heidegger sought to answer the question of the future of Germany in the form of a philosophical treatise. That is, most importantly, what makes Heidegger a German philosopher and determines both the self-consciousness of Heideggers philosophy and Heideggers notion of himself as a philosopher. Without such an approach to Heideggers thought, we cannot correctly answer the question of the political essence of his philosophy and, in that context, of the nature of Heideggers relation to Nazism.

In Einsteins Footsteps and Beyond: New Insights Into the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics – SciTechDaily

Zero-index metamaterials offer new insights into the foundations of quantum mechanics.

In physics, as in life, its always good to look at things from different perspectives.

Since the dawn of quantum physics, how light moves and interacts with matter around it has been primarily described and understood mathematically through the lens of its energy. Max Planck used energy to explain how light is emitted by heated objects in 1900, a seminal study in the foundation of quantum mechanics. Albert Einstein used energy when he introduced the concept of the photon in 1905.

But light has another, equally important quality known as momentum. And, as it turns out, when you take momentum away, light starts behaving in really interesting ways.

An international team of physicists is re-examining the foundations of quantum physics from the perspective of momentum and exploring what happens when the momentum of light is reduced to zero. The researchers are led by Michal Lobet, a research associate at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and Eric Mazur, the Balkanski Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at SEAS,

The research was published in the journal Nature Light Science & Applications on April 25, 2022.

Any object with mass and velocity has momentum from atoms to bullets to asteroids and momentum can be transferred from one object to another. A gun recoils when a bullet is fired because the momentum of the bullet is transferred to the gun. At the microscopic scale, an atom recoils when it emits light because of the acquired momentum of the photon. Atomic recoil, first described by Einstein when he was writing the quantum theory of radiation, is a fundamental phenomenon that governs light emission.

But a century after Planck and Einstein, a new class of metamaterials is raising questions regarding these fundamental phenomena. These metamaterials have a refractive index close to zero, meaning that when light travels through them, it doesnt travel like a wave in phases of crests and troughs. Instead, the wave is stretched out to infinity, creating a constant phase. When that happens, many of the typical processes of quantum mechanics disappear, including atomic recoil.

Why? It all goes back to momentum. In these so-called near-zero index materials, the wave momentum of light becomes zero and when the wave momentum is zero, odd things happen.

As physicists, its a dream to follow in the footsteps of giants like Einstein and push their ideas further. We hope that we can provide a new tool that physicists can use and a new perspective, which might help us understand these fundamental processes and develop new applications.

Michal Lobet, Research Associate, SEAS

Fundamental radiative processes are inhibited in three dimensional near-zero index materials, says Lobet, who is currently a lecturer at the University of Namur in Belgium. We realized that the momentum recoil of an atom is forbidden in near-zero index materials and that no momentum transfer is allowed between the electromagnetic field and the atom.

If breaking one of Einsteins rules wasnt enough, the researchers also broke perhaps the most well-known experiment in quantum physics Youngs double-slit experiment. This experiment is used in classrooms across the globe to demonstrate the particle-wave duality in quantum physics showing that light can display characteristics of both waves and particles.

In a typical material, light passing through two slits produces two coherent sources of waves that interfere to form a bright spot in the center of the screen with a pattern of light and dark fringes on either side, known as diffraction fringes.

Credit: Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences

When we modeled and numerically computed Youngs double-slit experiment, it turned out that the diffraction fringes vanished when the refractive index was lowered, said co-author Larissa Vertchenko, of the Technical University of Denmark.

As it can be seen, this work interrogates fundamental laws of quantum mechanics and probes the limits of wave-corpuscle duality, said co-author Iigo Liberal, of the Public University of Navarre in Pamplona, Spain.

While some fundamental processes are inhibited in near-zero refractive index materials, others are enhanced. Take another famous quantum phenomenon Heisenbergs uncertainty principle, more accurately known in physics as the Heisenberg inequality. This principle states that you cannot know both the position and speed of a particle with perfect accuracy and the more you know about one, the less you know about the other. But, in near-zero index materials, you know with 100% certainty that the momentum of a particle is zero, which means you have absolutely no idea where in the material the particle is at any given moment.

This material would make a really poor microscope, but it does enable to cloak objects quite perfectly, Lobet said. In some way, objects become invisible.

These new theoretical results shed new light on near-zero refractive index photonics from a momentum perspective, said Mazur. It provides insights into the understanding of light-matter interactions in systems with a low- refraction index, which can be useful for lasing and quantum optics applications.

The research could also shed light on other applications, including quantum computing, light sources that emit a single photon at a time, the lossless propagation of light through a waveguide, and more.

The team next aims to revisit other foundational quantum experiments in these materials from a momentum perspective. After all, even though Einstein didnt predict near-zero refractive index materials, he did stress the importance of momentum. In his seminal 1916 paper on fundamental radiative processes, Einstein insisted that, from a theoretical point of view, energy and momentum should be considered on a completely equal footing since energy and momentum are linked in the closest possible way.

As physicists, its a dream to follow in the footsteps of giants like Einstein and push their ideas further, said Lobet. We hope that we can provide a new tool that physicists can use and a new perspective, which might help us understand these fundamental processes and develop new applications.

Outstanding Seniors in the College of Science: Justin Hink – University of Arizona News

Posted: at 10:02 pm

This spring, each department in the University of Arizona's College of Science nominated an outstanding senior who went above and beyond during their time as a Wildcat. We are pleased to share their stories as they reflect on their time at UArizona. Next up in the senior spotlight series is Justin Fink.

Hometown: Marana, AZ

Degrees: Physics and Astronomy

College of Science:Why did you choose your area of study?

Justin: At Marana High School, I started learning physics sophomore year. My teacher, Mark Calton, taught me Newtons kinematic equations. I thought it was fascinating to learn so much about the motion of objects from a few initial conditions. I had started an engineering club with Mark where we created trebuchets, a duct tape water bottle, a duct tape boat, and many other projects. I used my introductory physics knowledge to know how much force our trebuchet was applying and the distance the golf ball would travel. I wanted to learn more. I went through two years of AP physics classes learning thermodynamics, optics, electromagnetism, and quantum mechanics, of course, all in a simplistic manner. I was able to take an Astronomy course with Mark as well. My physics classes and teacher got me out of my bubble and convinced me to put in the effort necessary to take on and achieve this degree.

COS:Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed.

Justin: The most memorable research project I have worked on throughout these four years of college was with the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). I have worked with them since the summer after my junior year. This was the first time I had to search through textbooks and teach myself a topic for research. This experience gave me an abundance of opportunities, from seminars to writing papers, all the way to a poster presentation at Rice University. This internship even led me to learn more about medical physics and change the direction of my career.

COS:What is one specific memory from your time at UA that you'll cherish forever?

Justin: I will always remember going up to Mt Lemmon with a group of astronomy friends. They had an 8 telescope so we could see the rings of Jupiter. It is a whole new experience to see the rings in person rather than a nice picture online. Surprisingly, it was my first time on Mt Lemon, even though I have lived here my whole life.

COS:What is next for you after graduation?

Justin: After graduation, I am working with the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility over the summer. Then, I am moving on to UCLA this coming Fall. I was accepted into their Department of Physics and Biology in Medicine to work towards a Medical Physics Ph.D.

Doctor Strange: Could we really be living in a multiverse? – BBC Science Focus Magazine

Posted: at 10:02 pm

In a parallel universe, you are writing this article. Youre probably doing a better job of it too. Thats what the multiverse theory suggests, anyway. You will no doubt have heard of it, if not from science then certainly from science fiction.

Star Trek, Stranger Things, Spider-Man: No Way Home TV and film is full of stories set around the idea that our world is but one of many alternative realities. However, with the release of the new Marvel film, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, the theory is set to achieve new heights of popularity.

But what exactly is the multiverse? And is there any truth to the idea that in a different reality Im actually a rich, handsome Premier League footballer?

The multiverse derives from the basic idea that beyond the grand sphere of our observable Universe are entirely different universes, distantly separated from ours. What characterises these universes is up for debate, but Richard Bower, professor of cosmology at Durham University, cites the work of fellow cosmologist Max Tegmark, who has theorised four levels of multiverse.

The first, explains Bower, posits an infinite universe in which every possibility that could happen would happen, including another copy of Earth. Level two, meanwhile, gives us multiverses where the basic laws of physics are the same, but fundamental constants differ. Newtons law of gravity would still weaken with distance, says Bower, but maybe there are four spatial dimensions instead of three.

Level four goes even further, presenting multiverses that have entirely different laws of physics. So maybe there would be some sort of mathematics that we have no idea about, says Bower. It could get weird. The trailers for the new Doctor Strange movie suggest an embrace of these weirder versions of the multiverse, with one shot showing him trapped in some sort of cuboid dimension.

Elizabeth Olson as Wanda Maximoff in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Disney

But of course, the most popular iteration of the multiverse is level three, the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics. It states that every choice causes a split in the Universe, leading to infinite parallel realities. In popular culture, its the theory behind the multiple Spider-Men in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

There are many versions of you but youre only aware of one of those versions, explains Bower, who cites the famous Schrdingers cat experiment. Youre seeing a cat thats either alive or dead, and youre incapable of realising that theres a version of you where the cat is alive. Youre just conscious of the version where the cat is dead.

None of this has been proven, however. There are theories that if a neighbouring universe happened to collide with ours some time ago, it may have left behind proof in the form of cold or hot spots on the cosmic microwave background (electromagnetic radiation left over from the Big Bang).

Bower himself is optimistic that advances in quantum computing which utilises properties of quantum mechanics like entanglement and superposition could demonstrate the strength of the many worlds interpretation. But at the moment, all of this is hypothetical. In fact, many scientists believe the mystery of whether the multiverse is real to be a philosophical question rather than a scientific one.

I dont totally agree with my colleagues on that, because a lot of them seem to think, Oh, its a philosophical question, and therefore we cant try to address it scientifically, says Bower. No, we just have to be more inventive about how we try to come up with ways to test it and new ways to interpret things.

Who knows, maybe in another universe someone has already figured it all out?

This Is The Real Scientist Behind The Big Bang Theory – Looper

Posted: at 10:02 pm

"The Big Bang Theory" goes pretty far into incredibly brainy information and advanced theories. As it turns out, all of that information is accurate, fact-checked, and presented in a true manner thanks to the likes of David Saltzberg, a real-life UCLA physics professor.

In an interview with NPR, Saltzberg said of his tenure on the hit series, "This has a lot more impact than anything I will ever do. It's hard to fathom, when you think about 20 million viewers on the first showing and that doesn't include other countries and reruns. I'm happy if a paper I write gets read by a dozen people." According to that same interview, Saltzberg's other function on the show, besides making sure all of the science is correct, was to fill in the appropriate information within the script and on the whiteboards. The whiteboards themselves have an incredible amount of detail when it comes to current scientific understanding, and Saltzberg would often reference real-life theoretical works, much to the delight of actual physicists familiar with the subjects.

When he's not working on shows like "The Big Bang Theory," Saltzberg works with proton colliders, researches neutrinos, and teaches physics classes that range from introductory courses to classes aimed at graduate students at the University of California's Los Angeles campus (via UCLA). Because of Saltzberg's work on "The Big Bang Theory," the show is as scientifically correct as it possibly can be.

Matthew in the Middle | The war on drugs and crime – Eureka Times-Standard

Posted: at 10:01 pm

I agree with Tucker Carlson. Those five words rarely come out of my mouth. Just signed up for a $0.99 month-long trial membership to Fox Nation. I get to watch all the propaganda videos produced by Fox and Tucker. Joseph Goebbels is laughing from hell. However, the video The Suicide of Los Angeles depicts what happened when Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascn changed the laws to favor the bad guys.

Los Angeles County, along with San Francisco, Portland and Seattle are no longer progressive nirvanas. All four of these progressive cities are now utopian hells with homeless, drugs and crime. Upon being voted into office, George Gascn made immediate drastic changes to the Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office by eliminating the death penalty. The reality is the death penalty does not make us safer, it is racist. Gascn ended cash bail for misdemeanor non-violent felony offenses and sentencing minors as adults. In his boldest move, Gascn removed sentencing enhancements for use of a gun in a crime or gang-related activity. This was the stick the ADAs (Assistant District Attorneys) could use to get plea agreements as the enhancement would add years to sentencing, if convicted. Now, if you were a 17-year-old gang member who shoots and kills two innocent people in a drive-by shooting, youll probably get sentenced to six months as a minor. In defense, Gascn has dismissed over 60,000 marijuana-related convictions.

Over in San Francisco County, Chesa Boudin was a 39-year-old Public Defender who had never prosecuted a case. Both of Boudins parents were convicted of the 1981 Weather Underground Brinks robbery that ended with three dead. Growing up with both parents in jail only fueled his beliefs in injustice and racism. (Note: Both of his parents are white and made horrible choices in life with a young child at home). In 2019, Boudin ran for San Francisco County District Attorney, promising prison sentencing as a last resort, attacking systemic racism and prosecuting police brutality. San Francisco ADAs no longer ask for cash bail. They stopped seeking gang or three strikes enhancement charges, which dramatically increases the length of prison sentences. Boudin has filed four homicide charges against San Francisco police officers.

Been to San Francisco lately? If so, youve dealt with homeless encampments outside of City Hall, stepping over homeless passed out on the sidewalks, drugs, drugs and more drugs, discarded used needles, human feces and mob shoplifting thieves. Why are things getting worse? There is no repercussion for drugs and non-violent crimes.

San Francisco voters voted out three progressive members of the Board of Education for being woke. They wanted to remove historical names, such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Sen. Dianne Feinstein from schools because of something bad in these great Americans past.

Defund The Police is probably the stupidest three words in the English language. While the woke progressive socialists like to say this, in reality, all it does is win elections for Republicans. The voters grew tired of this failed woke experiment. San Francisco County District Attorney Chesa Boudin is facing a recall this June. 80,000 voters signed the petition to recall Boudin and San Francisco only has 33,000 registered Republicans in the city. You do the math. Down in Los Angeles County, District Attorney George Gascn is also facing a recall.

Its tragic that its pitting Democratic mayors against woke progressive socialist District Attorneys. New York Mayor Eric Adams is feuding with District Attorney Alvin Bragg. San Francisco Mayor London Breed is an outspoken critic of District Attorney Boudin. This is not working, said Breed on a recent New York Times podcast. Gov. Newsom was filmed in LA at scenes of crime run amuck. You cant coddle career criminals because they had a rough childhood with high ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences Scores).

COVID only spurred on the light or no sentencing as law enforcement didnt want the local jails crowded during the pandemic. Unless you were a violent offender, you probably got a slap on the wrist. Look no further than the recent fentanyl overdose deaths here in Humboldt County. Since Los Angeles and San Francisco counties arent prosecuting drug crimes, its an open highway (literally) up and down the state for drug traffickers. Drugs are not victimless crimes. Just look at the dead overdosed bodies. Crime will be one of the biggest issues (along with inflation) with moderate suburban voters this November.

TOWN OF FISHKILL Town police joined with New York State Troopers on Wednesday night to combat prostitution and other illegal activities at a Fishkill hotel. The joint operation resulted in five arrests.

The joint operation was focused on illegal activities at the Extended Stay America at 55 West Merritt Boulevard in the Westage Center.

The investigation resulted in five subjects being arrested for a variety of crimes including prostitution and multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Fishkill Police Chief Keith Dworkin told Mid-Hudson News We know prostitution is not a victimless crime and is often financially intertwined with sex trafficking, drug trafficking, violent crimes, and sexual assault, adding The Town of Fishkill Police and New York State Police have an excellent working relationship and together are committed to investigating and holding accountable anyone who victimizes our residents, their families, and friends.

Chief Dworkin noted that his agency has been monitoring the area hotels for illegal behavior such as prostitution and said Our purpose in conducting these operations is to improve the quality of life for our residents, their family members, and friends who frequent this area. He also issued a warning to potential criminals, saying We want to make it clear that we will be relentless in our pursuit of reducing crime in our community.

Dworkin provided data to bring awareness to the problem. According to the chief, prostitution is commonly associated with human trafficking and illegal drug activity; it is not a victimless crime, ninety-five percent of sex trafficking victims are women or children. As part of this initiative, arrestees were interviewed to evaluate their safety, potential victimization in human trafficking and provide resources to improve their situation.

California State Senate Public Safety Committee Votes 4-0 to Pass SB 1472: Ryan’s Law – Redefines Gross Negligence to Include Driving Over 100 MPH,…

Posted: at 10:01 pm

May 1, 2022 - Sacramento, CA. - Last week, in a 4 to 0 vote, the Senate Public Safety Committee voted in favor of SB 1472: Ryans Law. Marking a major victory in the fight to keep Californias streets safe. After moving testimony from Carin Koeppel, founder of the Koeppel foundation and mother to Ryan Koepell who was killed by a reckless driver, the votes came in to recognize and address the growing issue of extreme speeding and reckless driving.

Recent increases in local street and highway fatalities, serious injuries, and the dangers of street racing are resulting in an epidemic of reckless driving and disregard for public safety. The California DMV reports that there were over 1500 more reckless driving citations statewide in 2021 than the year before and excessive speed violations increased by 80% from 9,000 violation to over 16,000 in the same period.

Of particular concern, is the growing prevalence of street racing and sideshows across the State. The CHP reports that they responded to almost 6,000 street races and sideshows, issuing 2,500 citations statewide in 2021, and these events can cost lives. CHP also reports that street racing and sideshows have caused 264 crashes statewide in the past five years. Of those crashes, 30 have been fatal and 124 have resulted in serious injuries.

Cars are weapons, and whether its a sideshow, a street race or just excessive speeding, these are not victimless crimes. said Senator Stern.

Just last month in South San Francisco a 15-year-old passenger died after two cars raced each other and one of them lost control, striking a wall and a tree causing the teens death and major injuries to an adult passenger. This problem is knocking on all of our backdoors and until statutory changes are made, lives will continue to be needlessly lost on our roads.

By redefining gross negligence to include driving over 100 mph, participating in sideshows or exhibition of speed, and driving recklessly, the bill explicitly gives prosecutors the ability to charge the driver with a felony if that charge should fit the crime.

I believe that through additional enforcement, public awareness and understanding ones own personal responsibility while driving SB 1472 will save lives. SB 1472 provides a reasonable solution in law that may prevent the next tragedy from ever happening to any child, parent or loved one stated Carin Koeppel in her testimony.Source: Senator Henry Stern

The lives of a journalist, musician, and painter intersect revealing unexpected truths.

According to the survey, 53% of respondents supported the measure, 39% voiced opposition, and 9% kept their cards close to their chest. Those results seem like pretty good news for Commit to Change WA, the advocacy group funded by the ACLU of Washington that paid for the poll and hopes to put the question on the ballot this autumn.

The pollster argues that Washingtonians have consistently supported the issues the initiative embodies. FM3 Research

Everett Maroon, executive director of Blue Mountain Heart to Heart, a case management service out in Walla Walla, counts himself among the many who think jailing people caught with drugs hasn't worked. "All we do is arrest the person, arrest their progress, and then subject them to a very high risk of overdose and overdose death when theyre released," he said during the presser.

That was certainly the case for Carmen Pacheco-Jones. Long before she became the executive director of the Health & Justice Recovery Alliance, she said she endured trafficking and a heroin addiction. When she was 18, cops picked her up on a shoplifting charge. After a search, they found drugs on her. She sat in jail for 50 days waiting for a hearing and ended up pleading guilty to avoid a trial. That decision trapped her in the system. Over the next "several years," she said, she cycled in and out of jail, until finally she went to treatment. Treatment broke the cycle, allowing her to get clean and reestablish a relationship with her kids.

An earlier offer of treatment would have put her on the right track sooner. "We need to address root causes and dramatically expand the outreach and recovery services that we know work, that weve seen work in other communities," she said during the presser.

Aside from not working to deter people from using drugs, you'll be shocked to learn that the criminal punishment system applied the possession law in a racist way across the state. According to state data collected by the American Equity and Justice Group, our courts convicted Black people and Native Americans of drug possession at disproportionally high rates in nearly every county in Washington.

This new push for an initiative to treat addiction as a public health issue rather than a criminal issue has been a long time coming. The initial group of advocates called itself Treatment First Washington, and they tried to get the measure on the ballot in November of 2020. The campaign said the pandemic sullied their efforts to gather signatures, so they changed strategies. In 2021, they tried to get the policy through the Legislature instead, using House Bill 1499 as the vehicle. Though the bill drew a meaningful amount of support from lawmakers, the proposal never made it out of committee. That year the Washington State Supreme Court struck down the state's drug possession law, which prompted the Legislature to re-criminalize possession as a misdemeanor for a couple years and appropriate some funds for treatment services. In the meantime, Treatment First WA rebranded as Commit to Change WA, and then eventually filed the initiative with some minor language tweaks. The campaign now says it needs more than 324,000 signatures by July 8 to make the ballot.

If successful, Washington wouldn't be the first state to decriminalize drugs while boosting services. In 2020, Oregon voters passed a similar law by a wide margin 58 to 42. In its first year, most people accessed "harm reduction programs such as syringe exchanges and naloxone distribution," and 1% entered treatment, according to a February report from OPB.

According to the initiative text, most of the money ($155 million annually) will go to the state health care authority to fund "substance use disorder prevention, outreach and engagement, and recovery support services." Other pots of money fund a "public education program," "cannabis social equity" grants, a program to test the drugs seized by cops, and a "drug enforcement task force" at the Washington State Patrol.
