STUDIO CITY, Calif., April 7, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- As this year's Myeloma Action Month came to a close, the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) was unwavering in achieving its goals. By encouraging individuals and groups to take action for myeloma through a powerful social media campaign, the IMF succeeded in increasing awareness of the disease, and in inspiring a culture of hope and resilience among the members of the myeloma community.

As Myeloma Action Month comes to a close, we encourage you to keep TAKING ACTION for myeloma and to continue supporting the International Myeloma Foundation in fulfilling its mission: improving the quality of life of myeloma patients while working toward prevention and a cure.

46 countries joined the #MYelomaACTION movement and reached over 30 million people across the globe.

The IMF is proud to report that the myeloma community went above and beyond when it came to taking action and making a difference for myeloma. Despite the pandemic and an ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the global community came together to participate in the Myeloma Action Month movement with over 30 million people in 46 countries reached across the globe.

IMF President & Chief Executive Officer and 26-year myeloma survivor Yelak Biru is truly elated at the success of this year's Myeloma Action Month: "Throughout this year's Myeloma Action Month, the IMF focused on encouraging engagement through the theme, #MYelomaACTION. Each of us has a role in advancing the art and science of cancer care in general, for better outcomes for myeloma in particular."

In 2009, the IMF launched March as Myeloma Awareness Month to shed light on this little-known cancer. By 2016, the organization elevated the campaign to Myeloma Action Month, with the added purpose of encouraging individuals and groups to take actions that positively impact the myeloma community.

This year, Myeloma Action Month was all about TAKING ACTION TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Participants in this year's campaign were able to join the movement by uploading photos of their chosen action at the Myeloma Action Month website, using the hashtag #MYelomaACTION, and sharing their photos of "action" on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. To further increase awareness about the disease, the Myeloma Action Month website also featured 31 IMF Facts and Stats about myeloma.

Story continues

Forty-six countries joined the #MYelomaACTION movement this year, with Myeloma Action Month social badges and infographics translated into more than 12 international languages. Individuals and groups shared their actions, posts, and photos across the globe.

Some of the highlights of this year's Myeloma Action Month include:

For 31 days, the Myeloma Action Month advent calendar was filled with inspiring posts of actions taken by members of the myeloma community to draw attention to the disease while encouraging others to share their own actions.

Myeloma Action Month was declared in Hamilton County, TN and in Walker County, GA

The IMF Support Group Team virtually presented and provided tech support to 80 support groups during the month of March, with updates and resources from the IMF.

IMF Regional Director of Support Groups, Kelley Sidorowicz, created guided audio meditations and yoga videos for those living with myeloma. These interactive programs are available for free at the Mind and Body Experience website.

Sponsor participation exceeded expectations with their active engagement in social media.

In China, a series of myeloma lectures were produced and were available for viewing in real time and as replay videos.

In Hong Kong, a program introducing myeloma to the public was produced and aired locally.

In South Korea, a series of events were carried out throughout Myeloma Action Month. The Korean Blood Disease & Cancer Association (KBDCA) produced a video where patients asked Dr. Ki-hyun Kim of the Korean Multiple Myeloma Working Party (KMMWP) various questions related to multiple myeloma treatments. The KBDCA also produced a collection of online videos, which featured myeloma patients in various themes. The videos are available on YouTube via the KBDCA channel.

In Italy, Associazione Italiana contro le Leucemie, linfomi e mieloma Onlus (AIL) an organization which works to raise public awareness of the fight against blood diseases held a patient webinar on March 28.

Thanks to the kind and generous contributions of individuals and groups, the IMF is delighted to announce that 2022 Myeloma Action Month made an enormous difference in building a powerful mosaic of activity for every myeloma patient, caregiver, nurse, doctor, and advocate thus, fortifying the myeloma community's collective hope, understanding, and resilience.

The IMF is grateful to the following Platinum Sponsors for supporting Myeloma Action Month: 2seventy bio, Amgen, Binding Site, Bristol Myers Squibb, GSK, Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, Karyopharm Therapeutics, Pfizer, Regeneron, Sanofi, and Takeda Oncology.

ABOUT MULTIPLE MYELOMAMultiple myeloma is a cancer of the bone marrow plasma cells white blood cells that make antibodies. A cancerous or malignant plasma cell is called a myeloma cell. Myeloma is called "multiple" because there are frequently multiple patches or areas in bone where it grows. It can appear as both a tumor and/or an area of bone loss, and it affects the places where bone marrow is active in an adult: the hollow area within the bones of the spine, skull, pelvis, rib cage, and the areas around the shoulders and hips.

ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL MYELOMA FOUNDATIONFounded in 1990, the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) is the first and largest global foundation focusing specifically on multiple myeloma. The Foundation's reach extends to more than 525,000 members in 140 countries worldwide. The IMF is dedicated to improving the quality of life of myeloma patients while working toward prevention and a cure by focusing on four key areas: research, education, support, and advocacy. The IMF has conducted more than 250 educational seminars worldwide, maintains a world-renowned InfoLine, and in 2001, established the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG), a collaborative research initiative focused on improving myeloma treatment options for patients. Apple WWDC 2022: What to expect and how to watch – finder.com.au

Posted: at 3:54 am

Apple's annual conference for developers is set to go ahead in a digital-only format in 2022. Even if you're not planning on uploading a new crypto-trading app to the iOS Store anytime soon, there will still be plenty of important announcements to keep an eye out for.

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Apple WWDC.

The WWDC will take place from 7-11 June. The keynote presentation will take place on 7 June, at 3am AEST.

You'll be able to catch the WWDC keynote live via the Apple TV+ app, on Apple's website or on its YouTube channel, where it will almost certainly be uploaded upon completion, for those of you who aren't completely nocturnal.

Here are the software reveals you're likely to see announced at Apple WWDC 2022. Keep in mind, generally when something is unveiled at WWDC, it enters a beta phase for developers and is not available to the public for some time.

The WWDC's headline reveal will be iOS 16. It is expected to be available on the iPhone 7 and beyond, and may feature AR/VR integration to prepare for an upcoming Apple Headset. Car crash detection that automatically contacts emergency services has also been rumoured.

Apple's mobile operating systems were split up in 2019, and have been steadily diverging ever since. We're likely to see iPad OS trend even more strongly in the direction of MacOS, including greater incorporation of Apple mice.

Rumours have also circulated that high-powered multimedia software like Xcode, Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro will finally be making their way to the iPad with this update, but only tablets with the M1 chip. At this point, that's only the Pro models.

The follow-up to MacOS 13, or Monterey, is an exciting prospect indeed. Apple's developers have now had years to create an operating system that maximises everything the glorious M1 chip can do, which should mean ultra-fast performance. Other than that, there isn't much reporting on any major changes coming in this update, but Apple could certainly surprise us.

Apple has trademarked the name "Mammoth", which would be in keeping with the trend of naming MacOS software after Californian landmarks.

watchOS 9 is expected to be unveiled at WWDC, but reports suggest it will be a modest update at best. The major rumour following tvOS 16 the software that runs on Apple TVs is "game mode", which will include a bevy of gaming features and a gaming-focussed remote. Triple A developers would surely love to get a crack at the M1 Pro chip, which could be a big element of tvOS 16.

Grab a great price on an Apple product so you'll be ready to run this exciting new software as soon as it becomes available.

My 1TB SanDisk Exteme Pro SD card says you're wrong I will probably switch from the microSDXC SD card when they will invent the swappable micro SSD.Cloud storage is spying on your data, investigates it, needs internet connection, requires downloading and uploading, doesn't work in airplane mode basically anywhere on the planet like the SD card which is, get this, instant access to your data!Go along and buy an iPhone, because clearly you aren't into tech or programming. Default users are the worst!

Like phone companies will care that you are protesting about this, haha. Just use internal storage of the phone, cloud services or external drives if you really have so much information to store. And stop complaining about things that dont require complaining about. You do realise that in the near future smartphones will be port less no? That means no sim card slot, no usb charging port, no sd card.

I for example, am only interested in high-end flagships (no mid-range phones) that have the SD card slot. I do have other criterias as well, but the SD card slot dictates if I'm interested in a phone or not. If it's not present, I completely loose any interest in it, no matter how excellent are the rest of the specs. And again, don't bring up the speeds because they are absolutely irrelevant. Nobody installs apps on the SD card or boots android from it (even though you can if you want)Again: No SD card slot = NO BUY! I don't care if the phone transforms into a ufo and flies to Mars! I don't want to burst your bubble, but I got into the Art School - Photo/Video section with a scholarship (that means I didn't pay for anything) with photos made ONLY with an old HTC phone. No DSLR or anything similar. I didn't even knew how to take a photo with a DSLR before that.My point is that you don't need a professional camera to take professional photos. That's a myth that bad photographers invented. Also, after I was accepted, the photo teacher really hated me because I wasn't using expensive equipment and I was never taking photos of almost naked girls or sunsets . He's a commercial prostitute if you ask me and clearly he's got nothing in mind but money, not art. What I can confirm is that EVERYONE, including pro photographers are still using the SD card in every camera, professional or not. My 1TB SD card is simply WOW and I use it just for backup and storage purposes. Speed is IRRELEVANT for that. And it's not like I spend every day transferring files :)) Don't be a hater just because you are not using the SD card. Peace!

This app turns your phone into a space weather forecasting tool – Popular Science

Posted: at 3:54 am

Before we start the day, its almost second-nature to whip out our phones and open the weather app to see if you should grab an umbrella or sunglasses. But some scientists have created software that allows you to tell an app what the local weather is like instead.

Researchers at ETH Zurich collaborated with the European Space Agency to build Camaliot, an app that uses a smartphones location data to improve live weather forecasting research. Launched on March 17, the crowdsourcing platform allows the public to participate in culling information and helps scientists create better ways to monitor the skies. Currently, the app is only available for Android devices.

Camaliot essentially turns your phone into a receiver for weather monitoring data. The app uses mobile technology to gather large bundles of raw data from the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), a constellation of satellites that provides geo-spatial positioning data, better known as GPS. When these satellite signals beam the GPS data down to Earth, the time it takes for it to reach receivers on the ground (like your phones) can be used to detect the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere. The more time it takes for the data to travel means that there could be more water vapor in the air slowing down the signal.

While the app is running, these water-altered signals are then passed on Camaliots servers in Switzerland, to eventually be used in machine learning algorithms that are programmed to make weather predictions, like rainfall. As the data passes through a brewing rainstorm, and is slowed by the moisture, the AI gains insight into the amount of rain in the area through the data uploaded.

The app can also be used to improve forecasts even beyond the planets atmosphere. Because GNSS data can also be used in low-earth orbit, Camaliots data can help scientists build space weather predictions, a vital feature considering that cosmic events like solar flares can cause damage to our satellites and communication networks.

[Related: How harpoons, magnets, and ion blasts could help us clean up space junk]

Because Apples iOS system restrictions prevent Camaliot from getting access to raw GPS data, the app is not currently available for iPhones or desktop systems. However, it is freely available across 50 Android devices, and can be downloaded from the Google Play store.

Current weather monitoring and forecasting models can be expensive and have varying levels of accuracy. So, the team at ETH Zurich thought of tapping into the powerful, compact machines that billions of people now carry in their pockets. Smartphones open up new opportunities for space weather researchers, says Benedikt Soja, project scientist for Camaliot.

Traditionally, if you use GPS measurements for atmospheric sciences, then these are only recorded at very selected sites all over the world, says Soja, who is also an assistant professor of space geodesy at ETH Zurich. And there are a lot of big gaps in the network of these GPS stations.

A single station can cost thousands of dollars and is positioned in just one spot above Earth. Meanwhile, cell phones are capable of providing geolocational data on a global scale 24/7casting a much wider web of Earths local weather phenomena than faraway satellites.

But relying on smartphones comes with a hitch. During the first few days of its crowdsourcing campaign, the app experienced multiple server crashes, in part due to the sheer volume of people logging in to contribute their data. (Site crashes and bandwidth failures are a common occurrence with large crowdsourcing projects). Now, in the second month of its four-month campaign, the app has more than 9,000 users and upwards of 9 billion GNSS measurements have been made so far.

To see just how easy it was to join in on the weather data collecting, I was curious enough to try Camaliot myself. Heres what I found out:

After downloading the app and creating an account, Camaliots home page recommends that you find a flat surface near a window, but anywhere with a clear view of the sky to set your device down on will do just fine. I set my phone down near the window in my living room, which typically gets a nice, clear view of the sky most nights. Clicking the start logging button will begin the session, and the app will start measuring your phones GNSS information based on quality and distribution, or the number of observations your phone has collected so far. You can run sessions for a few seconds to hours, it doesnt matter how long you leave it on. When youd like to wrap up, you can click the stop logging button to end the data collection.

Then users have the choice of uploading that data immediately, or later on. If they choose the latter, the information is saved on their device until they do decide to share it. Keep in mind, the data files are saved to your phones storage, so if you dont have a lot of space on your phone, you might want to send the info sooner rather than later. I did notice, though, that Camaliot takes up much less space than my other apps, a mere 52 megabytes compared to Instagram apps 221 megabytes. The app also hosts a leaderboard, which is a pretty entertaining feature where users can see how their uploaded data captures stack up in comparison to the number of measurements others have collected.

While it would be possible to collect satellite information without some of the bells and whistles that make the app so user-friendly, Soja says that taking a more interactive approach encourages people to join in and stay actively involved with the project.

[Related: 9 cool ways your family can help scientists collect data]

If there is some element of gamification, then it really increases the interaction, and the likelihood that the people will gather more data significantly, says Soja. At the time of this writing, my own rank wasnt anything to write home about. Whether trying to surpass other users or fatten up my own score, I have to admit that the added competition makes using the app compelling, in a fun, yet nerdy way. And for those committed to beating the competition, you can win prizes. The people who gather a significant amount of data can take home Amazon vouchers and new phones.

Although plans to extend the app are still in the works, Soja says he imagines crowdsourced, citizen science projects will become widespread in more research fields beyond space weather as time goes on.

Even though our project isnt finished, we would like to keep the app running and still contribute to better forecasts with the data, he says. According to Soja, overall success would be seeing their data being used in larger prediction models often seen on news and weather channels.

In truth, we may still be years out from creating humanitys most accurate space monitoring tool, but for now, wellheres an app for that.

Whose Dick Is That on the Wikipedia ‘Penis’ Page? – MEL Magazine

Posted: at 3:54 am

Its the most famous penis in the world. Clean-shaven, uncut and decidedly smaller than Tommy Lee, Milton Berle and Rasputin and yet, it has a girthier reach than any of them. Viewed by more than 200,000 people on a monthly basis, its become the subject of countless Reddit threads and Twitter posts. Its also had remarkable staying power, remaining at the top of the schlong heap for a solid decade. But despite its penile infamy, we have no idea who it belongs to.

Im talking, of course, about the guy whose penis is on the Wikipedia page for penis or, more specifically, the pages for both penis and human penis. The image was uploaded by a user named Coastone on April 29, 2012, and the dick pic was put up as the lead image for human penis the very next day. In short order, Wikipedia moderators decided that this dick was the perfect specimen to represent every penis on Earth.

Over the next decade, many other penises would challenge that status, but theyd only dethrone Coastones for a few hours or minutes before his inevitable reinstatement. On its own, thats pretty impressive, but if you take Wikipedias rather turbulent penis history into account, Coastones longevity is downright legendary.

In keeping with Wikipedias basic principles of allowing anyone to edit entries, the site maintains a meticulous archive of every single change made to every single one of its pages. To date, the penis page has had 8,440 different versions, and each can be found in the view history section of the page. The very first version of the penis page was created on November 8, 2001, some 10 months after Wikipedia launched. It had no pictures whatsoever, and provided just the most basic info on penises.

As noted by Slate, which reported on Wikipedias penis page back in 2014, on January, 30, 2003, the first visual representation of a penis was added to the page by user GrandVoivodOfErdely. It looked like this:

Just 14 minutes later though, the vandalism was taken down.

A similar thing happened on July, 13, 2003, when an anonymous user uploaded the first actual image to the page. The image, though, was of George Washington:

Wikipedias penis page looked like this for exactly one minute before being reverted back to its previous version. Strangely, it seems that Washingtons pioneer spirit somehow inhabited Wikipedias penis page that day, because just hours later, several actual dick pics the first ever to appear on the page would be uploaded by user BL~enwiki. They werent considered vandalism either. They were simple, medical-looking, black-and-white images, and theyd remain on the page for months before being replaced by clearer photos.

None of these images were the lead image, though that top picture you see when you first click on a Wikipedia page. Instead, they were further down in the details section. Over the next 19 years, lots and lots of penises would compete for space in this section usually, they were uploaded by guys surrendering their own dicks to the public domain. Most of them would be quickly removed as one moderator once hilariously noted in the discussion page, At this time Wikipedia does not need any more human genitalia images. On occasion, however, some pictures would stay up for years at a time these were the ones moderators believed to have encyclopedic value.

But while the ups and downs of the penile images on the page are important, the most important penis there is definitely the lead image. Again, its the first thing people see when they arrive on a Wikipedia page, and its no doubt the dick they think of when they think about the Wikipedia penis. To that end, the first lead image on the Wikipedia penis page appeared on May 9, 2004. It was an encyclopedic medical drawing uploaded by a user named Raul654.

Aside from the occasional prank, medical drawings would remain at the top of the page until May 3, 2008, when a user named Bobisbob decided that hed had enough with the cheap imitators he wanted the real thing (or the whole hog, if you will). He added an image of a caucasian man and labeled it semi-erect circumcised penis. But Bob was quickly met with opposition by other editors, who criticized the addition and reverted the image back to the diagram. Bob refused to give up, though. Next, he uploaded dick pic after dick pic, despite other users taking them down and calling the images the worst possible insult on Wikipedia: un-encyclopedic.

Other moderators would also accuse Bob of uploading his own images. While thats certainly possible, it appears that Bob was uploading different penis pics each time some of which were circumcised, some of which were not; so its unlikely all of them were his. As opposed to the cheap thrill many seem to get from adding their own dick pic to Wikipedia, Bob probably saw this as a noble cause. In one comment, he even wrote, Why not have a picture of the real thing, [is] that so bad?

For an entire month, Bob went back and forth with other moderators, arguing that a photo of a penis was better than a diagram, and finally, they relented (though they declined to use any of the pictures Bob had put forth). Instead, on June 6, 2008, user Nandesuka posted a slightly blurry black-and-white photograph that labeled different parts of the penis.

For two whole months, Bob let it go, but in August 2008, he began insisting that the lead image be in color and that it have no labels, explaining that labeled penis pics should go in the details section. He kept up the fight for more than a year, uploading different color pictures every so often, only to have them removed and replaced with the black-and-white photo.

Bob relented in September 2009, but the days were numbered for the black-and-white photo anyway. On February 24, 2010, a user named Yestadae posted a color image of a man with blond pubic hair. The image, which doesnt appear to be a picture of Yestadae, was from a German user named Polarstern, which translates to North Star in English. After a weeklong discussion between moderators about which image was better, it was decided that Polarsterns was superior.

But Polarsterns reign as the penile North Star was limited, too. In December 2010, the penis page which was always very human-centric was split into two pages, one for general penises and the other for human penises, specifically. Following this, the lead image for the original penis page became a bunch of jars of whale penises, and then later on, an elephant penis.

Polarstern became the lead image for the new human penis page, but it wasnt without controversy. In the discussion threads, Polarstern clearly being a white man given his blond, unkempt pubic hair was a big topic of conversation. Namely: Why not use a penis picture with more racial ambiguity to it?

The answer came in the form of Coastones dick or whats most likely Coastones dick, as it was labeled as own work on its details page, which means its his, or someone who he got permission from. Coastones penis was uncircumcised, had a somewhat darker skin tone and was posted by user Pontmarcheur on April 30, 2012. Pontmarcheur posted this image just one day after it was uploaded to Wikipedia, which, to me, heavily implies that theyre the same guy. Either way, no one seemed to mind.

Pontmarcheur argued that this new penis could belong to almost any race, and that it reduces the controversy around having a white man represent everyone. And unlike the long discussions that were had in the past over such changes, the moderators came to the consensus that Coastones member was the winner in a single day. The photo has remained as the lead image for the human penis page ever since.

On April 30, 2022, Coastone will celebrate 10 years on the throne, an accomplishment both he and Pontmarcheur assuming theyre not the same guy should be proud of. After all, the last decade has been a turbulent one for the entire world. There was COVID, there was an insurrection and there were more than a few wars. Yet, through it all, theres been one steady thing we could count on, one reliable member we could always turn to: The penis on the Wikipedia human penis page.

Honor MagicBook 16 (2022) review – Creative Bloq

Posted: at 3:54 am

TODAY'S BEST DEALS

The Honor MagicBook 16 likely wont be on the radar for many folks in the western market given the brand is more commonly associated with mobile phones than computers, but if youre looking for a large, budget-friendly laptop then you should stop and take a moment to absorb this review.

Honor used to be a part of the Huawei brand until they split back in 2020 (likely to get around strict anti-Chinese imports affecting Huawei in countries like the USA), and as such Honor laptops still have a few similarities with the devices from its old parent company. If you know anything about Huawei laptops though, this isnt a bad thing as most of the cons surrounding buying one comes from their regional availability and app support, which are two things Honor has (mostly) managed to avoid thanks to the split.

As a result, Honor laptops can offer some fantastic features on a budget, making them a great choice for students and anyone else keeping an eye on their cash (see our best student laptops guide for more budget friendly options). The MagicBook 16 is no exception to this, being packed full of some of the latest (and powerful) components while keeping costs in the mid-range. Although bear in mind that it's currently not available in the US or Australia.

Is it the most powerful system on the market, worth of including in our most powerful laptops guide? No, not by any stretch, but its large size, decent port selection and affordability mean it's a great buy for anyone looking to get started with various creative applications across talents like video editing, graphic design and digital illustration.

Its main downfall as a suitable laptop for creatives is the lack of a discrete graphics card, with it instead using the integrated Radeon graphics from its AMD Ryzen 5 processor, but this will only be an issue if youre trying to run applications that really need all that additional power. Generally speaking though, devices created specifically for the creative market will be better optimised for more demanding work but you wont get much selection at the same price point as the Honor MagicBook 16.

Laptops that do contain a full mobile GPU can get expensive pretty quickly, and the MagicBook 16 proves itself to be capable of running apps like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve with few issues so its still a great choice for creatives who wont need to use graphically demanding programs for things like 3D modelling.

If you have more of a budget to play with then it's worth checking out our list of the best laptop for graphic design, and the best computer for video editing, which have more powerful devices that are better suited to running demanding applications. For those who have fallen in love with the Honor MagicBook 16s charm though, read on to find out more.

You can buy the Honor MagicBook 16 for 850 direct from the Honor website with some interesting discounted add-ons (such as an Honor Band 6 watch or Honor Earbuds 2 Lite) and freebies (an Honor backpack for you to store the device), though theres a limited selection of available regions to ship to. As such, you cant buy the laptop direct from the Honor website if youre based in the US or Australia.

Spec Sheet

Here is the Honor MagicBook 16 (2022) configuration we reviewed:CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600HGraphics: Integrated AMD RadeonRAM: 16GB DDR4Screen: 16.1-inch FHD, 144HzStorage: 512GB NVMe PCIe SSDPorts: 2 x USB 3.2 type C, 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, 1 x HDMI, 1 x 3.5mm audio jack Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2Camera: 720pWeight: 4.04 pounds / 1.84KgSize: 0.71 x 9.29 x 14.48 inches / 18.2 x 236 x 368mm

In fact, we couldnt find it available anywhere for the US market so if you had your heart set on this particular laptop youd need to find a way to ship it over from the UK or China, which will quickly make it unnecessarily expensive. We wouldnt suggest this, so instead try another budget-friendly creative laptop such as the Asus Vivobook range.

The price is fixed as theres only one configuration available, that being with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H processor, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage which is great if you dont want to mess around with optimisations, but not ideal for anyone who wanted to configure things like RAM or storage to better suit their needs.

For comparison, the base model of the MacBook Pro 16-inch with the M1 Max chip will set you back $3,499 / 3,299, which is considered to be one of the best laptops for tasks like audio mixing and video editing, and the beloved, budget-friendly (for a Macbook at least) MacBook Air comes in at $999 / 999.

Powering the Honor MagicBook 16 is an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H processor with integrated AMD Radeon Graphics, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The lack of a dedicated graphics card means its not ideal for anything thats graphically demanding, such as 3D modelling or PC gaming, but there are plenty of creative applications that lean more on its capable CPU. Its also well suited for general day-to-day tasks like browsing the web, making video calls and typing out documents.

We were able to edit images on Photoshop easily enough, and while video editing was much slower than on something like a MacBook Pro 16-inch, it got the job done and didnt get too warm in the process.

Digital illustration was a breeze too, with Clip Studio Paint running with no noticeable lag. Still, we wouldnt recommend this if you need something that has some heavy lifting to do in applications like Maya or Blender - itll run them, you just wont enjoy how they run.

Windows 11 is the new operating system running on the MagicBook 16 in 2022, so you wont need to update from Windows 10 yourself during setup. Its plenty fast and looks modern to boot which certainly helps give the laptop a more premium feel, though theres not a huge jump in benefits for everyday users.

The 56Wh battery is fairly capable, lasting around 7 hours and 27 minutes in a looped video test and just under that at 7 hours and 3 minutes in a productivity benchmark that simulates a typical office workday.

There are plenty of laptops on the market that will last much longer, but its hard to find one at the same price that offers similar features. Its admirable, but not being able to last a full 8-hour workday is going to be an issue for Students and creatives who dont like to anxiously keep an eye out for power outlets.

Youre getting a webcam, though like many other laptops on the market, this is only capable of 720p. Its perfectly fine for work meetings or Zoom calls with your family and friends, but you wont want to record any videos for broadcasting on it. The sensor is also on the weak side, so theres a fair bit of background noise (the static-like fuzz that appears) because it cant cope with dim light conditions, so try and face a window or light source to improve this.

The Honor MagicBook 16 is ideal for anyone who needs a sizable screen on a budget, with a screen-to-body ratio of 87.3%. The resolution is Full HD (1920 x1080p), with 137 PPI and a peak brightness of 300nits. For comparison, the MacBook Air (2020) can achieve 400 nits and costs slightly more at $999 / 999.

The brightness is a little disappointing honestly as youll struggle to work in a brightly lit environment like being outside on a sunny day, but it works fine if you only plan on using it indoors and it does at least have a matte coating, which should help with reducing glare if youre sat by a bright window.

The aspect ratio is 16:9, which is still the standard, but were seeing more and more laptops released these days with a larger 16:10 ratio for enhanced productivity, so this may become a tad dated over the next few years. Colour accuracy isnt perfect, with the MagicBook 16 capable of producing 95.9% of the sRGB colour gamut and has a contrast ratio of 891:1, but this is ample for those who just started a creative hobby or course.

While the rest of the display feels a little underwhelming, youre getting a 144Hz refresh rate which isnt just nice to have given it feels much smoother than a 60Hz display, but it also has some benefits for gamers and video editors too. This can drain the battery, but you can manually drop this down to 72Hz in the Windows 11 advanced display settings menu if youre conscious of the device's power consumption or simply want to extend its battery life away from a power outlet.

That 144Hz refresh rate is great, but feels like it needs a little extra power if you want to make the most out of it. The integrated AMD Radeon graphics do a decent job, but a Pro model of the Honor MagicBook 16 is planned to release with an Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU which could provide a boost, though this doesnt currently have a price or release date.

The Honor MagicBook 16 isnt a small laptop, measuring in at 18.2 x 236 x 368mm and weighing 1.84kg. Sure, its on the larger size but thats just another benefit for creatives and students who want that extra real estate.

It only comes in one colour, Space Grey, which is nice enough and makes the laptop feel a little more expensive than it actually is thanks to being made from matte aluminium. This is also something we see from Huawei products so despite being separated from its parent company you can enjoy a similar vibe if you really dont want to buy from Huawei. Despite its size, it also fits into a standard satchel bag or rucksack just fine, and we managed to carry it around for a day without feeling it was unusually heavy.

The keyboard isnt anything to write home about. The keys are well-spaced if a little snug but this was easy to adjust to, and the keyboard is fully illuminated for when you need to type in a dimly lit environment.

Down each side of the keyboard, youll find upwards facing speakers, with the power button built into the right-hand side one. This doubles as a fingerprint scanner and its location away from the main keyboard mean youre unlikely to accidentally press it.

The trackpad is located underneath the keyboard and is very responsive and easy to use. Youll have an easier time using a wireless mouse or even a graphics drawing tablet if youre wanting to give digital illustration or photo editing a try, but for day-to-day web browsing and general use, the touchpad does an ample job.

Where many laptops these days have started to ditch ports, you actually get a decent selection on the Honor MagicBook 16, such as a full-sized HDMI, two USB 3.2s, two USB-Cs and a 3.5mm headphone and microphone jack. Sadly youre still missing ports like Ethernet and an SD card slot which would have been good for quickly uploading photographs from a digital camera, but its not a terrible selection.

Theres no Thunderbolt connection, but thats a technology restricted to Intel devices so its unsurprising that the AMD-powred MagicBook 16 lacks this feature. Still, the available ports mean that you can use it alongside a display drawing tablet (as these typically require an HDMI connection alongside either a USB-A or USB-C), which makes it a decent budget choice for graphic designers as well as photographers and digital illustrators.

The Honor MagicBook 16 (2022) isnt going to win any 'best of' awards, but it is a great all-rounder that caters well to creatives on a tight budget. That 144Hz display means its a joy to use, with a smooth framerate in daily use simply browsing the web, as well as in very low-demand games. It also offers a wide selection of ports for all the peripherals you might need for your craft, though the lack of an SD port is a disappointment.

Battery life is decent, but could afford to be better given AMD-powered laptops are usually known for offering exceptional battery life, which follows the same theme of the Honor MagicBook 16 being a resounding okay. Everything from the webcam, to performance, is middling, neither good nor bad and as such its unlikely to knock your socks off, but it is ideal if youre a student or someone who doesnt need a high-performing laptop. Although patchy availability means that not everyone will be able to get their hands on it.

Mikal Bridges: ‘Crazy’ how many times bigs have won Defensive Player of the Year over guards – Yahoo Sports

Posted: at 3:53 am

Phoenix Suns guard Mikal Bridges made his case during the 2021-22 NBA campaign as to why hes more than deserving of winning this seasons Defensive Player of the Year award.

But its going to take voters consisting of sportswriters and broadcasters looking beyond traditional defensive stats that often favor a centers candidacy.

Bridges, in an exclusive interview with Yahoo Sports, wants voters to dig deeper.

I would never discredit anybody, and obviously bigs have been winning that award for a while and they do a hell of a job, but the amount of times a big has won over a guard is just crazy, Bridges told Yahoo Sports. I think people take it for granted how tough it is to guard the top perimeter players in this league and not be able to really touch them because theyre going to get the foul call. I feel like as a defender on the perimeter, you just get disrespected. Im not even talking about me personally, but I dont understand how guards in general dont win it. These guards are shooting off ball screens, they get isos with the offense spaced out and a lot of shooters on the court. Youve got to guard these matchups one-on-one, and I think we just get taken for granted.

Bridges, 25, has traveled the most distance on defense of anyone this season, hes seventh in defensive win-shares (3.7) which has contributed to the Suns 106.7 defensive rating that trails only the Boston Celtics (106.2), and hes in the 99th percentile of the most difficult defensive matchups assigned.

Hes always available and holds the longest active streak of 307 consecutive games played.

Furthermore, there are no slow nights for the fourth-year veteran. He goes from guarding Luka Doncic, to Ja Morant, to LeBron James, to Stephen Curry, to Damian Lillard to Donovan Mitchell on a nightly basis. His willingness to handle the toughest assignment is a critical component to why the Suns possess the leagues best record at 63-17.

Golden State Warriors defensive star Draymond Green said Bridges would be his choice for DPOY.

Story continues

That was so dope to hear that from Draymond, Bridges said of Green. Obviously with everything he does on the court, he understands how tough it is to guard a dude on ball. I just wish the voters would actually watch the games. But I can only control what I can control.

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid are among those in contention for DPOY, but Bridges has better betting odds than both to win the award.

Its been 26 years since a guard was awarded the hardware. Hall of Famer Gary Payton was the last guard to receive it in 1996.

Im telling you, again, Ill never discredit none of the bigs, but they dont have the matchups we have to face, Bridges told Yahoo Sports. There are not as many talented bigs in the league as there are talented wing players and guards. Guarding one through four is tough. If you want to do the math, look up how many skilled players are one through four, and then how many skilled players are at the five. Obviously, you have a lot of talented fives, but out of all 30 teams, not every big on the team is very skilled. Thats just how I look at it.

But like I said, I never discredit what centers do because being an anchor on your team and pick-and-roll defense, being on the weak side, thats a part of the game as well. I understand why they get the love. But I just feel like when you really look at it, youve got to start looking at the guards and how being on that perimeter guarding one through four is tough.

Bridges has the most usage matchups this season, meaning his defense causes a ballhandler to terminate the possession via a field-goal attempt, free-throw attempt or turnover. He has 69 more of these than the next closest player, an indication that Bridges is guarding the players who shoot the most or forcing a player to do something he doesnt want to do.

Bridges holds those matchups to 91.8 points per 100 possessions and to an effective field-goal percentage of 48.4%.

The 6-foot-6 guard with a 7-foot-1 wingspan believes hes done enough to warrant breaking that guard-winning defensive drought.

For sure, Bridges told Yahoo Sports. Im not saying that there are not other really good defenders in this league. But for sure I think I should win. Im out there every night looking to match up with the best and make it a tough on guys. I pride myself on being available every single time. It is about team defense because I know Ive got four other guys with me, but when I guard a guy, I make it tough on them.
