Now, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA's Earth Observatory shared snaps of the heart-shaped sighting from space just in time for the Valentine's day celebration, as per a news story from Space.com.

The folks aboard the aging ISS, which NASA plans to crash into the ocean in 2031 as it retires, looked down on our home planet way back in May 2021, wherein they spotted an interesting sighting from the surface of the Earth.

While astronauts in the orbiting space station were looking at the sandy deserts of Egypt, they stumbled upon an oasis that appears to have formed a heart shape.

It turns out that the massive heart shape seen from space is an ancient oasis that goes by the name Faiyum Oasis, which reportedly extends to more than 450 square miles or 1,2000 square kilometers.

Space.com noted that its size could be compared to at least one and a half of the overall area of the five boroughs of New York City.

NASAstated that the heart-shaped Faiyum Oasis was created on top of the lakebed of Lake Moeris in ancient Egypt.

The United States space agency said that the heart-shaped oasis was once home to human settlement way back 8,000 years ago.

Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli captured the first-ever images of an orbiter docked to the International Space Station from the viewpoint of a departing vessel as he returned to Earth in a Soyuz capsule.

It also provided these folks with various resources during ancient times, including fishes and birds. Not to mention that it also housed the now-endangered slender horned gazelle back then.

On top of that, the heart-shaped Oasis was also the place where marvelous engineering innovations thousands of years ago or in ancient history were showcased.

As per the geography department of the University College London, shortly known as UCL, the oasis is "one of the earliest massive national hydrological projects in the world."

The UCL went on to add that the "engineering kings" were behind the massive oasis project in ancient times, which is basically the 12th Dynasty kings.

That said, due to the "engineering kings" thousands of people have benefited from the life that the oasis sustains, which includes towns, villages, as well as orchards, and farms.

Now, astronauts orbiting 250 miles from Earth have spotted this oasis of life as a heart-shaped gray patch in the middle of the sandy Egypt desert.

On Dec. 21, 2021, a system of innovative new computers and sensors developed by the NSF Center for Space, High-performance, and Resilient Computing (SHREC) at the University of Pittsburgh, was packed aboard the SpaceX CRS-24 launch that was precisely and carefully flung toward the stars.

More specifically, the system, dubbed Configurable and Autonomous Sensor Processing Research (CASPR), is part of the U.S. Department of Defenses Space Test Program (STP), which provides an opportunity to perform cutting-edge technology research aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The successful launch, delivery and docking of CASPR aboard the ISS marks the pinnacle of a three-year process of development and integration.

On Jan. 11, 2022, the experiment was installed, connected and powered on, marking this novel, reconfigurable space systems first successful use in space.

Most university technologies fail when deployed in space, noted Dr. Alan George, Mickle Chair Professor and Department Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), who leads both SHREC and the CASPR mission. So far, ours are working exactly as hoped.

To prepare for installation, the team had to bolt CASPR on a pallet baseplate (the STP Houston 7 pallet, to be exact), which included six total experiments. When the payload arrived at the ISS, a robotic arm reached into the trunk of the SpaceX Dragon capsule and grabbed the pallet. It then used guides and the Columbus External Payload Adapter (CEPA) to line up and install the pallet on the Columbus module.

As part of their recent delivery to NASA, the SHREC team added two new types of space sensors that will be used to get a better view of Earth and its surroundings.

The sensors include a high-resolution binocular telescopic imager, developed by SHREC collaborator Satlantis, and a neuromorphic event-based camera, developed by Prophesee and created by Dr. Ryad Benosman, professor of ophthalmology and ECE at Pitt.

This binocular telescope points to Earth, and its ground-resolved distance (GRD) enables us to see things like cars, roads, or trees from the ISS, said Seth Roffe, a doctoral student in ECE at Pitt who is project manager of STP-H7-CASPR. There are other telescopes with this level of GRD, but this one is small roughly the size of a toaster oven.

Unlike the binocular telescope, the neuromorphic sensor faces the horizon, in the direction that the ISS is moving. The device emulates the human retina and is used to track fast-moving objects in space and improve situational awareness.

Performing research on the ISS requires small yet robust tools that are equipped to handle spaces harsh environment. In addition to new sensors, the CASPR system also includes a pair of new high-performance and reconfigurable computers for space, each known as a SHREC Space Processor (SSP), which is built to withstand these challenging conditions and perform better than its predecessors from SHREC.

SHREC is a national research center sponsored by the National Science Foundation and dedicated to assisting U.S. industrial partners, government agencies, and research organizations in mission-critical computing. The team hopes that the equipment will provide insights into both what these instruments can do and the potential applications of them.

Sometimes we forget that the three years of preparation and the celebration of a successful launch is just the beginning, said George. We are looking forward to doing and learning a lot more in the years to come.

In addition to Roffe, the project leads for the CASPR system include the following current and former graduate students:

"Comebacks are always on the table for us": Composed Spacestation advance past NAVI – SiegeGG

As quick as a flash, NAVI took the lead on Chalet.

Spacestation selected them, specifically, for a reason: but not necessarily a negative one. Their choices were between NAVI and two NA teams, and among those choices, they preferred the UK-majority squad. Matthew Hotancold Stevens and Dylan Bosco Bosco noted in a post-match press conference that they liked the way their map pools lined up as well.

Three rounds in, it was all NAVI on Chalet. I was just hiding at Heaven I knew in his mind he was thinking I wouldnt push, so I pushed, said Jack Doki Robertson, who nailed three heads in the span of eight seconds during round three to force a de facto tactical timeout by round timer from Spacestation. The American side rallied for three attacking rounds in a row to finish the half, but NAVI were just as surgical four straight attacking rounds for them put the game away.

The Scot was surgical in the moment and throughout the map, and NAVI rolled to a 7-3 victory on Chalet. They followed that up with a commanding 6-3 lead on Bank, and were pixels, seconds, a stiff sneeze away from taking the series and advancing to play Team Empire.

It wasnt to be. Spacestation rattled off five rounds in a row, three for the overtime push and two to take the extra round time. We just know were never out, said Hotancold. Weve been through many, many comebacks before.

Hotancold also detailed a specific, random meeting between them and Soniqs in the bathroom before map three both teams were down exactly 6-3 in round count at nearly the same time and they swapped a quick comeback story. Soniqs would also go on to win their map three, albeit in less dramatic fashion.

Statistically, the day was won by Nathanial Rampy Duvall, who turned in a stellar 38 kills over the course of three maps. No one else in the server cracked over 30 total, the next closest was Doki with 25.

Spacestation went down 5-1 on their Clubhouse attacking half, but the defensive half was completely and totally theirs. They won all six rounds in the half to take map three in regulation. Hotancold says the side switch was good for Spacestation. Comebacks are always on the table for us, he said. Everyone knows that in the back of their mind, were still playing to win.

Spacestation advance to face Team Empire later today. NAVI fall to the lower bracket, where theyll have a second crack at an NA team: DarkZero lies in wait for them.

Spacestation eliminated from HCS Anaheim after finishing at top 16 – Dot Esports

Posted: at 5:42 am

Spacestation Gaming made a quiet exit from HCS Anaheim after losing 1-3 to Esports Arena Red in a best-of-five last night.

Spacestations hopes of a strong placing at HCS Anaheim were under threat from day one. Pool play saw them take tough losses to G1 and Fnatic in Pool B and left the embattled roster sitting at a 0-3 record. As the fourth-placed team in their pool, they received a ticket to the elimination bracket at the beginning of day two, missing out on the safety net of the winners bracket altogether.

Spacestations Halo roster has struggled to find its footing since losing FormaL days before the start of HCS Raleigh. FormaL moved to Sentinels as a substitute for Royal2, who was suspended at the time. They had similar struggles to other partnered teams Fnatic and G2 Esports during the online Pro Series after a top-eight finish at Raleigh. But while G2 and Fnatic began to improve, Spacestation stagnated, despite moments of brilliance every week.

That stagnation followed them into Pool B at the beginning of HCS Anaheim, losing 1-3 to open qualifiers team G1 at the start of Friday and faltering in a close 2-3 defeat to Fnatic. FaZe Clan, the top seed of their pool, offered little mercy as they swept Spacestation 3-0. Tylenul was the only player on Spacestation who held his own in each matchup, maintaining a K/D over 1.1 throughout the entirety of pool play. When paired with Flazins dominant 2.88 K/D in the set against G1, questions arise over where Spacestations struggles lie.

Narrow losses in Oddball and Capture The Flag would prove to be their downfall when they faced down EAR in the elimination bracket on day two. Despite finishing the 1-3 series defeat with near equivalent statistics to EAR across the board, according to data from ForerunnerGG, Spacestations inability to close out the tight maps in their favor seems to be at the heart of their Anaheim exit.

Finishing top 16 means Spacestation failed to automatically qualify for the next HCS Major in Kansas City at the end of April. However, with over two months until the next live event, Spacestation have a long window to reflect on the state of the roster and their performances. They will have to qualify through the open bracket hosted at the tournament, similarly to Sentinels run during HCS Raleigh.

The HCS Anaheim action continues through Sunday, and you can catch it live on the official Twitch channel.

'Small glimmer of hope' for democracy

I was startled and delighted to read Crossing lines, Manchin endorses Murkowski by Hope Yenin FLORIDA TODAY on Feb. 7.

There appears to be a small glimmer of hope that decency and concern for the fate of our democracy can still be found in the U.S.Senate. The Founding Fathers did not include parties in the Constitution. Many of those founders hoped to avoid parties altogether. The new government was created for the benefit of the union, and it was the union, not parties, to which the members of Congresswere expected to be loyal.

Things have changed, and not for the better in that regard, which is why it was such a joy to read that these two senators put their mutual respect and their respect for the well-being of our increasingly fragile union above the pressures being placed on them by their respective political parties. Ive just become a fan of two inspiring senators whose names were unknown to me a few months ago.

Frank Merceret, Merritt Island

Im finding the gigantic fashion ads in my Sunday paper full of fancy expensive clothing andgear very demoralizing.

Our democracy depends on fairness. And in my eyes we are devolving into Singapore, with an oligarchy of the mega-richat the top, and all the rest just worker bees at the bottom.

Im personally privileged and well educated and able to enjoy a well-funded retirement but Im not blind.People around me are hurting. I feel that America is now playing with loaded dice, economically disenfranchising millions of our citizens. And then, changing the rules for voting to keep the status quo in place.

I worry that we will rue the day when real freedom was completely undermined by the upper 1% of our country, and its essential nature as an engine of ingenuity, enterprise, brilliance and success for many will be utterly compromised.

America is an idea, as much as a country. We are dangerously close to losing everything that made it a great one.

Ruth Lambert, Melbourne

Are youfrustrated?

A while ago we decided to donate to several charities to help where we could. We had no idea we were about to unleash a flood of unwanted mail upon us.

We quickly realized each charity had sold our information to many organizations who then have endlessly solicited us.Out of 10pieces of mail we receive, nine of them are solicitations.

Its apparent our USPS isnt in the business of delivering important mail, theyre in the business of delivering unwanted junk mail.Repeatedly, we get the same mail from the same organizations.

Youre likely thinking, "Whydoesnt he contact the organizations to be removed from their mailing lists? Done, and have been told they will do so immediately. We continue to get the same solicitations. Then why not write Return to Sender on it and put it back in the mailbox? Done;I was told the USPS doesnt return mail like this. Do they not realize they are spending more to send these solicitations than we have donated?

Question: With this volume of mail how can the USPS be losing so much money?

Answer: The bulk rate these organizations pay is so inexpensive that it incentivizes them to continue with these unwanted marketing programs.

Solution: Eliminate the bulk rates and have them pay what we do? It might even mean over time that our USPS can achieve a break-even operation.

House Bill 747,Protections of Medical Conscience, iscosponsored by local Representative Thad Altman. This bill allows health care providers and payers to refuse to treat or pay for services based on their "conscience" an obvious ploy to garner votes.

If passed this will cause citizens, hospitals, and health care providers problems. How will we know what procedures a health care provider will not participate? Do hospitals create lists detailing what services they will provide? What if a health care employee does not agree? Can a nurse or doctor can decide their conscience yay or nay the day of a procedure or do they need to provide some sort of itemized list prior? Can they be hired or not hired based on their list? Do I pay for the office visit after I find out the doctor wont treat me due to a conflict with their beliefs?

I suspect, if this nonsense gets through the Florida Legislature, there will be lawsuits. People will be denied coverage. It is a slippery slope. Dangerous to our society and costly to us taxpayers.

Jere Smith, Melbourne

I am happy letter writer IleneDavis has read a book from the last century that has had such a profound effect on her life. As she often does, she references "Atlas Shrugged"and from it she promotes "Galts Gulch," where the red states join together in what she describes as "citizens that believe in traditional values that made America so great."

I am wondering if this philosophy was the basis of the Tea Party and the now out-of-touch right wingof the Republican Party. As writer Charles Blow stated, "One does not have to operate with great malice to do great harm. The absence of empathy and understanding are sufficient."

In Galts Gulch, I imagine a world of selfishness and a small minority thinking that they know what is best. Nope, Ilene, youre not getting Florida. I suggest you head to the Dakotas, Mississippior Texas and perhaps you can start your vision of Utopia there.

$4 billion dollars: That is the latest forecast of Floridas budget surplus as outlined by the Legislature.

News came at the same time I was lucky enough to sit down with Rep. Michelle Salzman as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network during the Florida Cancer Action Week.We discussed priorities for the surplus and policies that address the impacts of the pandemic.I stressed that at the top of the list should be increasing funding for our Mary Brogan Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program and how important it is to be able to continue our states fight against cancer.

By providing underserved women with the lifesaving screenings they need, the critical program breaks through the most significant barriers of access and affordability which have caused a large portion of the screening delays during the pandemic. Additional funds will allow the program to reach more eligible individuals and help build the long-term viability of the program.

An estimated 20,920 Floridian women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis in 2022.When cancer is discovered early, treatment is more successful. With so many in need of such a program and as breast cancer remains one of the leading cancers in Florida, its due time we adequately fund such critical services.

Jan.6, 2021, according to the Republican National Committee, was a "legitimate political discourse."I guess the RNC would qualify Sept.11, 2001, as an appropriate method for responding to philosophical political ideologies.

Adding to the delusional declaration of the RNC, some high-level Republican representatives are not only failing to refute this critique, but attempting to sugarcoat a violent insurrection, thereby giving credence to this outrageous commentary. The RNC is undoubtedly living in a fictional universe.

Even Sen.Mitch McConnell, staunch believer in Republican Party dogma, asserted the Jan. 6 event was an insurrection. McConnell further rebuked the RNC for their censure of Sen. Cheney and Rep.Kinzinger, putting principle ahead of reprisal.

Emirates’ Alanoud Al Hashmi: CEO of The Futurist Company – About Her

Posted: at 5:39 am

Alanoud Al Hashmi is the CEO of the Futurist Company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a company inspired by the nation's need to tackle its agricultural challenges with out-of-the-box innovations. In fact, Al Hashmi is well known for her belief in innovation and technology, and providing solutions through her team of scientists, engineers, and technologists. In addition, she is also a member of the Young Arab Leaders.

Al Hashmi completed her studies on Digital Transformation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Sloan School of Management in 2018, and on Customer Driven Marketing at the Wharton School that same year. Currently, she's studying for her Global MBA in General Business Administration and Management at University of Manchester, which is expected to be completed by April 2022.

Since 2008, Al Hashmi has built an extensive career working on management and leadership roles at various companies. In 2021, however, she would find herself launching her own company: The Futurist Company. It was inspired by His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his willingness to face all odds of promoting agriculture in the early days of the UAE. The company works on "future-facing" projects while providing tools and techniques to its clients.

Simply, The Futurist Company hopes to tackle food security in the future in the UAE and globally. It is helping farmers grow food in otherwise unfavorable terrains, in addition to tackling challenges such as global warming and imbalance in the ecosystem. In fact, amongst the challenges facing the UAE is food insecurity, an issue that, if left unresolved, would have been more catastrophic by the next half a century as the company has concluded.

In an interview with aeworld.com, Al Hashmi faced her initial challenge of running a company in an otherwise male-dominated industry, but she would soon find herself receiving support from men eventually. Hence, her biggest problem would end up being her company's ability to provide solutions that can tackle future issues, or "future-facing."

Undoubtedly, Al Hashmi's contributions wouldn't go unrecognized. In the fourth quarter of 2021 Bentley Motors launched the Bentley Extraordinary Women Initiative, which sought to empower a new generation of female entrepreneurs. Al Hashmi was one of several women from across the region to support the initiative.

For 2022, Al Hashmi is working to launch GAIA, food security agriculture technology aggrotech solutions aimed at tackling 13 of 17 of the United Nations SDG sustainable development goals. In addition, she will be taking part in "Operation 300 Billion," strategies for developing the manufacturing sector in the UAE.

Who is Anna Delvey’s techno-bro beau based on in ‘Inventing Anna?’ – New York Post

Posted: at 5:39 am

Scammer Anna Delvey is infamous for swindling the New York elite out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. And in Inventing Anna, the new Shonda Rhimes Netflix show about her, she has a ridiculous tech entrepreneur boyfriend.

On the series, which stars Julia Garner in the title role and is out Friday, Annas on-screen love interest is Chase Sikorski (Saamer Usmani, Succession). Chase is introduced to the audience in episode 2, when hes giving a Ted Talk about the potential to cloud source your dreams. A tech entrepreneur, he has an app called Wake, that never gets off the ground, and he uses the cringeworthy slogan, everyone else is Woke but Chase is Wake.

As he explains in his Ted Talk, dreams are filled with meaning and magic but when we wake up in the morning, All of that knowledge just dissolves Imagine, what if instead of losing that time, you could tap into it? Could we be more connected?

The sequence feels like a satire of Silicon Valley culture, and its true that Chase and his idea to cloud source dreams are fictional. All episodes of Inventing Anna begin with the same disclaimer: This story is completely true. Except for the parts that are totally made up.

But Chase has roots in reality.

In the 2018New York magazine article about Delvey that inspired this show, her beau is mentioned just briefly, unnamed blind-item style, as a futurist on the TED-Talks circuit whod been profiled in The New Yorker. According to the profile, Delvey ran around with him for a while in 2015. Then it was 2016. The guy, whose app never materialized, moved to the Emirates, and Anna came to New York on her own.

When that profile when viral, internet sleuths honed in on two men who fit the bill.

anna delveys futurist boyfriend is almost certainly either shingy or ray kurzweil but BOTH (surprisingly?) have new yorker profiles AND Ted Talks, one Twitter user speculated, while a 2015 Slate article concurred that these were the likely candidates.

Lets break it down.

David Shing, aka Shingy, was described as AOLs Digital Prophet in a 2014 New Yorker profile. Hes an Australian marketing exec who worked at AOL, has an eccentric sense of style, and a TED Talk in which he talks about how connected this generation is which is similar to what Chase says in his TED talk in Inventing Anna. Hes currently 50 while Delvey is 31, but a 20-year age gap isnt out of the question.

Meanwhile, futurist Ray Kurzweil, who was profiled by the New Yorker in 2012, has written books on AI and transhumanism. But, hes currently 73, making a match with Delvey less likely.

However, there is one other man who checks both boxes and then some.

Hunter Lee Soik, 40, is a Korean-American futurist who got a 2013 profile in the New Yorker, actually created an app involving dreams, and lived in Dubai. Among other endeavors, he was a creative consultant on Jay-Z and Kayne Wests Watch The Throne tour and for Italian Vogue.

He spent several months reading Freud and Jung and Allan Hobson on dreams, just to figure out everyones position, and learning about researchers in Japan who are mapping the neurological processes of dreams, his 2013 New Yorker profile says. What would happen if we created a space where dreams were organized?Soik poses in the story.

A 2014 Fast Company profile explains that Soik lives out of temporarily rented homes in Berlin, San Francisco, New York, or Los Angeles often found via Airbnb and wears only black.

A Kickstarter for his app, called Shadow, has a video of him proposing to create the largest dream database in the world.

The clincher? Hes also mentioned in a 2014 post on Delveys Instagram. Its a photo taken from far away of someone lounging on the deck of a boat on the ocean. In the caption, Delvey wrote, #Ibizato#Formenteralast days of summer with@jaymacardoso@hunterleesoik.

Neither Delvey nor Soik responded when The Post reached out for comment.

If social media is to be trusted, the relationship didnt last.

While Delvey was in jail in 2021, she posted on her Instagram that she is looking for a boyfriend.

Expert: No, Russia Isn’t Going Pull Its Modules to Sabotage the ISS – Futurism

Posted: at 5:39 am

As tensions mount between NATO forces and Russia as Moscow continues its saber-rattling outside of Ukraine, some are beginning to fear that geopolitical conflict might pose an existential threat to the International Space Station (ISS).

In fact, the British tabloid The Daily Express even speculated today that if things get really bad, Putin could end up instructing cosmonauts to decouple Russias modules from the ISS an act of sabotage that could doom the station to fall back down to Earth without the propulsion system on the Russian modules that help keep it in orbit.

Luckily, we have good news: Thats really, really unlikely to happen.

In theory, itd be possible to detach but I think its very unlikely to happen, Dr. John Logsdon, professor emeritus of political science at George Washington University and director of the Space Policy Institute, told Futurism. Its not my view that Russia would do this.

Logsdon was quoted by the Daily Express saying the situation near Ukraine could very well result in a Russian withdrawal from the ISS, but he tells us that he was merely speculating on a very extreme and unlikely scenario.

In reality, Logsdon tell us that there are numerous reasons Moscow would be resistant to commanding its cosmonauts to abruptly leave the ISS. For one, it would not only be a wantonly destructive act of sabotage, but self-sabotage as well. Thats because the power from the ISS and therefore the Russia modules comes from solar arrays on the US side of the station.

So if they decoupled themselves from the station, the cosmonauts would eventually find them floating in orbit with no way to maneuver their craft or keep them alive.

Russia would have to supplement the modules with a solar power system for this to even be viable, Logsdon said.

The ISS is a very interdependent facility by design and purpose,he added.

Also, the move would serve little purpose besides being a bit of petty theater which, granted, we wouldnt put past Russia. Sure, leaving the ISS in a huff would be a symbolic middle finger to the rest of the world, but what would it really matter with an actual war on its hands?

Frankly, I dont think whatever happens with the ISS is very important if indeed Russia invades Ukraine, Logsdon said. Thats the brink of World War III, so a technical facility in orbit is kind of a sideshow to that. Also, what would be the point? It doesnt do them any good.

Also, Moscow has already announced plans to build its own space station following the upcoming retirement of the ISS. Logsdon believes that their current three modules on the ISS could likely serve as core additions to the new facility so Russia almost certainly wouldnt just yeet it away before its ready to do that.

Moreover, the ISS itself is a symbol of international unity. Since its inception more than two decades ago, its remained a source of cooperation between nations regardless of geopolitical tensions and turmoil on Earth. It brought countries together in the wake of the Cold War for the purpose of bettering our understanding of ourselves and the universe around us.

As such, Logsdon believes its telling that folks are worried about the fate of the ISS at all in the midst of the crisis surrounding Ukraine. After all, if we cant agree on the pursuit of science and understanding, what can we agree on?

Its interesting that the station is symbolic enough of US-Russian cooperation that in the midst of this really threatening situation, people are worried about the station, Logsdon said. It is a symbol of working together.

Researchers Furious Over Claim That AI Is Already Conscious – Futurism

Posted: at 5:39 am

After OpenAIs chief scientist brazenly claimed that some neural networks may already be gaining consciousness, others in the field are pushing back.

The backlash comes after we pointed out yesterdaythat OpenAI cofounder Ilya Sutskever had cryptically claimed that it may be that todays large neural networks are slightly conscious.

After publication, the responses came rolling in,with some representing the expected handwringing about sentient artificial intelligence, but many others calling bull.

Every time such speculative comments get an airing, it takes months of effort to get the conversation back to the more realistic opportunities and threats posed by AI, UNSW Sidney AI researcher Toby Walsh chimed in.

Valentino Zocca, a deep learning expert whose day job is as a vice president at Citi, had a similarly hot take, claiming that AI is NOT conscious but apparently the hype is more important than anything else.

Independent sociotechnologist Jrgen Geuter, who goes by the pseudonym tante online, quipped in response to Sutskevers tweet that it may also be that this take has no basis in reality and is just a sales pitch to claim magical tech capabilities for a startup that runs very simple statistics, just a lot of them.

That take was echoed by software testing specialist Michael Bolton not the singer of the same name who joked that it may be that Ilya Sutskever is slightly full of it, or, perhapseven maybe more than slightly.

Leon Dercynski, an associate professor at the IT University of Copenhagen, ran with the same idea.

It may be that theres a teapot orbiting the Sun somewhere between Earth and Mars, he bantered. This seems more reasonable than Ilyas musing, in fact, because the apparatus for orbit exists, and we have good definitions of teapots.

Still others, including Microsoft Norway data scientist and former DeepMind researcher Roman Wepachowski responded to the news with a meme approach.

These critics, it should be noted, are not wrong to point out the outlandishness of Sutskevers claim it was not only a departure for OpenAI and its chief scientist, but also a pretty unusual comment to make, given that up to this point, most who work in and study AI believe that were many years away from creating conscious AI, if indeed we ever do.

Sutskever, for his part, seems unbothered by the controversy.

Ego is (mostly) the enemy, he said this morning.
