‘Sister Wives’ Season 16 One On One Part 2 Recap-Feb. 6 – TV Shows Ace

Posted: February 9, 2022 at 2:01 am

Last week on part one of Sister Wives: One on One, Kodys relationship with Meri was addressed. It was revealed that she is staying for family. Though they have not been intimate in a decade, she still has hopes they can be one again. However, his trust is completely gone in Meri but Kody says he will take care of her forever. Meri opened up about Janelle and Christine having come in as wives. She admitted she was jealous and who she was most jealous of. The catfishing incident was revisited and this week, Robyn discusses being a target. Kody also opens up about his relationship with his sons after the pandemic.

Sukanya Krishnan is back with the wives and Kody to discuss the pandemic rules Kody had set forth. They show Christines initial reaction to discovering that Robyn and Kody had a nanny. She wanted to know what exactly did the nanny do that enabled her to be allowed in their home. To be clear, this was spawned because Ysabel wanted to see her siblings and couldnt. Yet an outside nanny was welcomed. Christine felt like she was untrusted when she had been fully transparent with her daily operations.

Sukanya asks Robyn why the nanny rules were not out sooner. She claims she asked sooner but Kody was very grumpy. He also claimed no one would have followed the rules, especially the kids. Christine said she did not care to get back together with everyone. However, she knew her kids did so she would do whatever it took. Kody would come by for a few hours every week. It was not enough so they would go out of town where they were filled with love. In Kodys mind, he had two households that would not abide by his rules.

In Robyns home, everyone, including the nanny complied. The other wives chose their children and wanted to protect them. Kody still maintains the wives should have not protected their kids 18+. Janelle did feel she had to choose and did not want to force them out into the world during a pandemic. Whats going on with Kody, Gabe, and Garrison?

He is currently not speaking to Gabe and Garrison. They speak occasionally but that is it. Kody feels he was severely disrespected by his sons. They should have moved out in order for him to move back in. Admittedly, Kody thinks they all need therapy. In Janelles opinion, the boys dont necessarily feel they want to give respect to their dad. It is not owed and it is a two-way street. Kody also did not always trust Gabe and Garrison when they said they were following the rules. The truth is they would say they were following his rules when they were in fact lying. They have since moved out.

Janelle admits several of Kodys kids are at odds with him over his pandemic rules. He does want his kids around him, but he does not believe they respect his leadership. It now circles back to everyone getting the rules so they can gather for the holidays 2020. Christine and Janelle decided to go to Utah for Thanksgiving instead. Kody claims he did not know how he felt. Christine thinks Kody was sad and frustrated at the moment. Meri was frustrated because she had been asking for it.

Janelle says the rules came out ten days to two weeks prior to the holiday and her boys said they were not doing it. Sukanya asks why Kody did not follow Janelle when she got up and angrily left. She was so mad because she felt Kody did not trust her. Yet, Kody felt there was no loyalty on her behalf so he was not about to chase her.

Kody says Janelle was passive with the boys whereas Christine was just moving out. He proceeds to call them jackwagons. Circling back to Thanksgiving, Christine had other kids she needed to see and that was all she cared about. In regards to her relationship with Janelle, they made it no secret that they hung out during the pandemic. Christine chose Janelle over Kody because they just had a special relationship. Kody equated them to a clique and his negativity was making Janelle crazy.

Janelle admitted she went where she and her family were wanted. Everyone was welcomed but they did not want to be there because Janelle and Christine were not compliant. Initially, they did not get along because Janelle thought Christine was a princess. She was a buffer for Janelle and Meri though because it was no longer Meri against Janelle which was great. Sukanya asks Christine if there are parallels between Janelle and Kodys marriage if she is happy with Kody.

Christine asked Janelle if she will stay and she said he is a great dad and has no plans on leaving. Kody says they are not in sync and they do not partner well. They are good friends and get along well, it is a committed relationship. Is he in love with Janelle? Admittedly, neither one of them would say they were if they were being honest. Janelle says they are best friends.

Asking if they are intimate, Janelle claims they are fine and leaves it at that. Christine claims she does not think Janelle needs him to fill her tank. She is a strong woman and needs things different than Christine does. Christine needs to be intimate with her husband. Seemingly, that is not important for Janelle. Onto Christine being a basement wife. This is something she addressed over the past two seasons. She lived downstairs in their polygamy home in Utah while raising their kids.

Christine put everyone first and when she took it up with Kody, he said she was breaking the agreement. Apparently, she never brought it up to anyone but Kody. Robyn admits she and her kids have never fully felt accepted by Janelle, Christine, and their kids. Kody claims Robyn has picked up the slack for where Christine has shrugged. However, Christine was the one who did so much for about ten years. She did not just immediately drop off.

Robyn claims her youngest does not remember the names of her siblings and adds she is an easy target. Mainly because she gets along with Kody. When she joined the family, she told her kids they would accept the other wives as mothers. They would also follow all of the rules and such.

Robyn says it is hard to get phone calls from the kids blaming her for the rules. She would help the kids be with their father or do what they needed any time. Then she claims she has never cried so much in an interview before. In her life, she has never felt so much unsafe space as she has this past year. Aside from Meri, Kody does not think the other women would want to be Robyns friend. Robyn actually called Janelle and asked if they could develop a good sister wife relationship. She said she would have to think about that.

Janelle admits she felt she was put on the spot. With Christine, it was just natural as they were raising kids together. Admittedly, she is the only one having a fully functioning relationship with Kody. That cannot be easy for the other wives to watch. Robyn keeps breaking down and wonders how she will get through this interview. As for Christine, Robyn has always wanted her and Kodys relationship to be strong. She wishes Christine had kept trying and claims they are divorced.

Robyn says they are not because the marriage was done by their church officials and it has not been properly granted. According to Christine, she left that church a long time ago and God is fine if she just wants to be happy. Kody says she is free of that yolk of bondage and Christine maintains they are divorced.

Next week on part three of Sister Wives: One on One, Kody admits he is questioning his own polygamy as is Janelle and Meri. Kody finally watches the footage of Christine choosing to say goodbye to him as the divorce fully comes to light. Watch it Sunday on TLC.

Happy birthday to the great Ayn Rand – Press-Enterprise

Posted: at 2:00 am

Today marks the birthdate of one Alisa Zinovyevna Rosenbaum, best known to the world as Ayn Rand.

Rand was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1905, witnessing the tremendous upheaval caused by war and communist revolution firsthand,

In 1926, she immigrated to the United States and pursued the classic American dream of becoming a screenwriter in Hollywood. Though she had limited success on the film and theatrical scene, she found her calling as a novelist.

In her early novels like We The Living, Anthem and The Fountainhead, she explored themes that would come to define her: the tyranny of the state against the individual, the menace of collectivistic philosophies and the will of individuals to triumph over oppression.

Her magnum opus Atlas Shrugged was published in 1957. The more than 1,000-page book tells the story of heroic, productive individuals and entrepreneurs suppressed by meddling bureaucrats. It was through this novel that Rand extensively spelled out her core philosophy celebrating rational self-interest, reason and individualism.

Its an approach perhaps best summarized by a key line in the novel, I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

Atlas Shrugged would go on to become an international success and a major influence on free market-minded conservatives and libertarians.

Until her death in 1982, Rand continued to write and appear on television programs valiantly defending individualism and capitalism, which she understood was essential to freeing individuals to put their creative energies to use.

Capitalism was the only system in history where wealth was not acquired by looting, but by production, not by force, but by trade, the only system that stood for mans right to his own mind, to his work, to his life, to his happiness, to himself, she wrote in Capitalism: The New Ideal.

While Rand is certainly a polarizing figure, with collectivistic progressives who usually havent read a single page of her work seemingly the most bothered by her, Rands personal story and extensive intellectual contributions to the cause of liberty are worthy of respect and critical engagement.

Sometimes you feel like a nut: almonds in the mood food movement – FoodNavigator-USA.com

Posted: at 1:59 am

Noting that global food and beverage launches with mood-related claims and almond ingredients grew at a CAGR of 45%, The Mood Food Movement: Meeting Consumer Motivations report makes the case for almonds as a nutrient-rich functional food that can ease product development by offering unparalleled taste, texture and ingredient versality.

Whether changes in mental health are caused by a pandemic, climate change, work life, home life or health, consumers will continue to turn to food and beverages containing almonds to improve their mood and feelings of wellbeing, the report states.

Almond Joy candy bars famously poked fun at being off-center with the quirky sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you dont jingle that hit airways in 1970. Today, brands are responding to increased consumer demand for products that make them feel more centered with brain and mood boosting effects.

Its no surprise that weve seen almonds appear in products with sleep, energy and focus claims as almonds are a good source of magnesium, a nutrient that research suggests may help with brain functions that reduce stress and anxiety, Charice Grace, Trade Marketing and Stewardship Manager at the Almond Board, tells FoodNavigator-USA.

As example, the report points to better-for-you snack company Mother Earth that launched its new Wellbeing Bars last October. The range includes a chocolate brownie-flavored Bliss Bar made with almonds, advertised as a natural source of magnesium to support overall wellbeing, including normal psychological function.

Snacking almonds continue to be the largest driver for almond sales, but the Almond Board cites Innova Market Insights data that shows that launches of new products made with almonds have increased across confectionery, snacks, bakery, bars and cereal categories.

With over 14 versatile forms including almond butter, almond milk, defatted almond flour and more, almonds can also be a go-to partner for formulating with other ingredients, the report notes.

Grace adds that the neutral taste of almonds pairs well with other mood-associated foods and flavors like herbs and botanicals, mushrooms, chocolate and fermented foods.

Functional snack maker Smpl, for example, recently relaunched with snack bars made with adaptogens, nootropics and botanicals designed to boost energy, improve focus, reduce stress and support the immune system. Almonds are a key ingredient in all the bars but contribute to improved productivity claims in the Focus Bar and are combined with other functional ingredients in the Calm Bar to reduce stress and improve mood.

Almonds are a holistically feel-good food from a nutrition, sensory and sustainability standpoint, Grace says, noting that the nut sits at the forefront of many converging trends.

By funding novel nutrition research and advancing the almond communitys sustainability journey, the industry is meeting consumers mood food motivations from multiple angles.

Complementary therapies for IBS: Diet, herbs, and more – Medical News Today

Posted: at 1:57 am

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a collection of symptoms that can include abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, or diarrhea. Complementary therapies can help reduce the symptoms.

Some complementary therapies that may help with IBS include acupuncture, herbal remedies, and mind-body techniques.

It is important to note that, when it comes to IBS, everybody is different. What helps can depend on the root cause of the symptoms and a persons individual response to different therapies. Because of this, it is a good idea to work with a gastroenterologist when considering complementary approaches.

Keep reading to learn more about complementary therapies for IBS, including diet, supplements, and more.

Before trying complementary therapies, it is important to understand that IBS affects people differently. The name IBS refers to a group of symptoms that vary from person to person.

Because of this, people can have very different responses to treatments for IBS. Many people have to try multiple approaches to find what works for them.

IBS is a functional disorder, which means the symptoms occur as a result of a problem with the way the intestines work. The exact cause is unclear, but there are a number of factors that may contribute, such as:

IBS symptoms often benefit from dietary and lifestyle changes. This is where doctors typically start when treating someone with IBS. The standard approach to IBS often begins with:

As a result, the standard treatment for IBS has some crossover with approaches people might think of as complementary. However, with IBS, these diet and lifestyle changes can be enough to control symptoms and improve quality of life. This makes them a mainstay of IBS treatment.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that medications should be a last option for IBS, when other approaches have not helped.

Complementary treatment involves a person trying additional therapies alongside standard treatments. For example, a person might change their diet according to a doctors advice, but they might also try supplements or relaxation techniques recommended by another practitioner.

There is no one diet that helps everyone with IBS. Some may find they get symptom relief from only avoiding a few specific foods, while others may find they feel better avoiding a whole food group.

Because finding the right approach to food can be complicated, it helps to work with a dietitian who is knowledgeable about IBS. They can ensure that a person is getting adequate nutrition while they try out different approaches.

A common recommendation is gradually increasing fiber intake, as this can make stools softer and easier to pass for those with constipation. However, this approach may also make symptoms worse for some people.

Another approach is the low FODMAP diet. Highly fermentable oligo-, di-, and monosaccharides, and polyols (FODMAPs) are carbohydrates that are hard to digest.

Because FODMAPs can trigger or worsen IBS symptoms, doctors may advise limiting high FODMAP foods. This may be both in terms of the type of food a person eats and the portion size.

A 2017 review studied the effects of a low FODMAP diet on IBS and found that it can reduce symptoms, especially abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloating. However, the authors did not determine whether this diet produced better results than older IBS dietary advice.

Because many high FODMAP foods are nutritious, researchers have concerns about limiting them on a long-term basis. If following the low FODMAP diet for several weeks reduces a persons symptoms, a dietitian may advise slowly reintroducing medium to high FODMAP foods, one at a time, to expand someones choices.

Learn more about different IBS diets and how to choose one.

There are many supplements on the market that companies claim will help with IBS. A few have evidence behind them, but many do not.

When looking for supplements, remember to always:

Probiotics are species of beneficial bacteria. Research into probiotic supplements is still in its early stages, but there is some evidence that specific strains of bacteria may help with IBS.

A 2017 meta-analysis reviewed research to determine the effectiveness of the probiotic bacterial strain Bifidobacterium infantis on IBS.

After assessing five clinical trials, it found that the probiotic may significantly decrease IBS symptoms without any appreciable side effects.

However, people with IBS as a result of SIBO may have different responses to probiotics. A 2020 review notes that prior research on probiotic therapy in this group has been mixed. In some cases, probiotics seem to cause or worsen SIBO symptoms.

Learn more about probiotics and their potential side effects.

A 2019 meta-analysis of previous studies found that peppermint oil showed promise as a complementary treatment for IBS, particularly for reducing pain.

In the 12 studies researchers analyzed, seven reported improvements in IBS symptoms for those taking this supplement. There were few adverse effects, and the researchers deemed the treatment safe and effective.

However, it is worth noting that the long-term effect of taking essential oils internally is unknown. Generally, doctors advise against it.

Curcumin is a compound in turmeric. A 2018 meta-analysis of three previous studies concluded that curcumin supplementation had a small positive impact on IBS symptoms, although not much more than a placebo.

IBS is a physical illness and is not in someones head. However, because the gut has links to the brain and nervous system, it is directly affected by stress and emotions and vice versa. This link is known as the gut-brain axis.

A 2019 review states that alterations in the brain-gut connection, along with stress, may predispose a person to IBS. Additionally, previous research suggests that people with IBS have high levels of certain inflammatory chemicals that are associated with anxiety and depression.

This may mean that therapies to relax the brain and body also have a positive influence on the gut. An older 2014 review analyzed eight clinical trials to ascertain the value of relaxation techniques in relieving IBS. The results suggested they have a positive effect.

Some mind-body therapies people may wish to try include:

It is worth noting that there are many mind-body therapies beyond this. A 2020 review of studies on various types of mind-body therapies found that they all improved IBS symptoms to a similar degree. This included biofeedback, psychotherapy, meditation, and more.

People with anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder, in particular, may benefit from psychotherapy in order to reduce the impact these conditions have. It can also help people cope with the effect chronic illness has on their mental health.

Learn more about the relationship between depression and chronic illness.

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that involves a qualified practitioner placing very fine needles into the skin at specific points around the body. Scientists are not entirely sure how it works, but some evidence suggests it may help with IBS.

A 2019 meta-analysis of previous studies concluded that acupuncture worked better than a Western approach to treatment. The Western approach in this study included the use of medications such as antispasmodics, laxatives, and antidiarrheal drugs.

However, the researchers state that acupuncture worked best as an additional, complementary therapy, alongside medical treatment.

This study had some drawbacks, including potential for bias and the inclusion of some studies that had small groups of participants. More research is necessary to explore how well acupuncture might work in larger groups.

There are many complementary therapies for IBS that may help a person reduce their symptoms. While standard medical treatment often involves dietary and lifestyle changes, complementary therapies can also involve supplements, mind-body therapies, or techniques from alternative medical systems, such as TCM.

No matter what treatment a person chooses, it is important to discuss it with a doctor first. A doctor can help make informed decisions about a persons care and advise on avoiding therapies that might be harmful.

Genes that may be helping bumblebees adapt to environmental change pinpointed – Imperial College London

Posted: at 1:56 am

Researchers studying bumblebee genomes have identified genes thought to be helping bees overcome environmental challenges, such as climate change.

The study, led by researchers from Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College London, looked at genome sequences of buff-tailed bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) one of the most widespread European species - to understand how they have been adapting to the dramatic environmental change they have faced in recent evolutionary time.

The team searched the genomes to find which parts had been replaced by newer versions over recent decades a term researchers call signatures of selection. They found signs of recent changes to the genome in areas known to be linked to the nervous system and wing development.

The researchers suggest that these genetic changes likely improved the bumblebees ability to forage further for food in response to increasing habitat fragmentation and changes in climate. The results are published in the journal Molecular Biology & Evolution.

Bumblebees and other insects are important natural pollinators of crops and of wildflowers. Recent studies have documented international declines of bees and other pollinators, citing habitat loss, disease, pesticides, and climate change as contributing factors. However, some of these pollinators, such as Bombus terrestris have been doing well, despite changing environmental conditions.

Co-author of this study Dr Richard Gill, from the Department of Life Sciences (Silwood Park) at Imperial, said: Advances in genomic techniques are now providing us with unprecedented insight into how previously overlooked species are responding to environmental change.

Understanding responses of insect pollinators like bees was previously reliant on recorded sightings, but these are not always reliable due to sparse historic records and unstandardised methods. The genome, however, provides an effective diary of how populations are responding.

"By studying these genetic changes, we can better understand why some species are doing better than others and which environmental pressures are the primary culprits, which can inform mitigation strategies.

Lead author of the studyDr Yannick Wurm, from Queen Mary University of London and the Alan Turing Institute, said: We found signatures of recent adaption in genes throughout the bumblebee genome, including for genes involved in the nervous system and in wing development.

Simultaneously analysing many genomes of the buff-tailed bumblebee sheds new light on the health of this species. This species is doing well, and we found that most of the genome harbours extensive genetic diversity and the ability to use it. These traits will support this species in continuing to adapt to the challenges it faces.

Interestingly, the researchers also uncovered some unusual features of the bumblebee genome, including a region containing 53 genes that lacked the diversity found in the rest of the genome.

Dr Thomas Colgan, the first author of the study from Queen Mary University of London, said: In contrast to the high genetic diversity in most of the genome, we found a gene-rich region with the opposite pattern: extremely low diversity in bumblebees and in their relatives, the honeybees.

"We dont fully know the evolutionary reasons for the pattern observed in this region of the genome, nor how it may impact the ability of the species to adapt.

The findings provide important insights into the ability of a key pollinator to adapt and highlight the benefit of genomic approaches for understanding the genetic health of wild populations. The researchers suggest that this type of approach could help develop tools for safeguarding beneficial insects important for ecosystem stability, biodiversity maintenance and crop productivity.

Dr Wurm added: The UK hosts more than 1,500 beneficial pollinator species, including many species of bees. Applying the genomic approach developed here to other pollinators can help identify those species most at risk and inform the development of custom-tailored conservation and mitigation strategies.

Special genome sequencing surveillance in Karnataka to detect new variants of COVID-19 – The Hindu

Posted: at 1:56 am

Following directions from the Centre, Karnataka Government has directed all ICMR-approved COVID-19 testing labs in the State to send 10% of all positive samples, identified from February 2 to February 28, for genome sequencing.

This is as part of a special genome sequencing surveillance drive to enable detection of new variants proactively. Karnataka has been given a target of 10,000 samples in February.

As of now, routine genome sequencing is being undertaken with 15 samples fortnightly from each district. However, the Centre has now instructed the State to conduct a special genome sequencing surveillance of COVID-19 with a larger proportion of positive samples, stated a circular issued in Bengaluru on February 7.

Samples of patients with international travel history (irrespective of CT value); representative samples from clusters / focal outbreaks with severe morbidity and / or mortality; seriously sick, hospitalised patients and prolonged hospital admissions should be prioritised. Besides, samples from cases of re-infection; breakthrough infections (in fully vaccinated individuals) and from COVID-19 death cases should also be sent for sequencing, the circular stated.

Management of patients with mental illness

Following recommendations by the States Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), all District Health and Family Welfare Officers, Mental Health Programme Officers along with District and Taluk Mental Health Program (DMHP) teams have been directed to ensure uninterrupted availability of out-patient mental health services.

Along with in-person out-patient services, hospitals can also practice telephonic consultation, telemedicine services and e-prescription as per the existing telemedicine guidelines.

According to a circular issued in Bengaluru, hospitals have been directed to procure the required psychotropic drugs through District Mental Health Programme funds, National free drugs funds or Arogya Raksha Samithi funds. All government healthcare facilities, including PHCs and sub-centres, should ensure adequate supply and stock of essential psychotropics, and dispense the drugs to needy patients. Persons with mental illness should get their regular medications to prevent relapse.

All persons with mental illness in quarantine/isolation should be contacted on a daily basis. Those with moderate to severe COVID-19 infection and requiring hospitalisation should be admitted in designated COVID-19 hospitals without any prejudice and should be treated equally. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as counseling and psychotherapy, should be provided simultaneously. Considering the unique challenges faced by persons with mental illness during the pandemic, the officials should stretch their resources and accommodate them without undue referral to other health care facilities, the circular states.

In the wake of increased number of patients in home isolation during the third wave, the available helplines NIMHANS helpline (080-46110007), child helpline (1098) and Yuva helpline (155265) should be used to seek psychosocial support and mental health care, the circular states.
