Tough Enough to Wear Pink is back in Las Vegas to celebrate its 17th year – PRNewswire

Posted: December 7, 2021 at 5:25 am

Tough Enough Pink, the western community's campaign to fight breast cancer, celebrates its 17th anniversary

Tough Enough to Wear Pink was founded in 2004 by Terry Wheatley, wife and mother of former professional rodeo cowboys Jim and Wade Wheatley, and a breast cancer survivor herself and Karl Stressman, former director of special events for Wrangler and former Commissioner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). The idea was to spark a western community movement to help families facing breast cancer. Tough Enough to Wear Pink night was launched at the WNFR with competitors and fans alike sporting pink to show their support. The idea was an instant hit, and rodeo committees across the country were asking how they could bring the campaign to their own hometowns.

Tough Enough to Wear Pink offers planning, marketing, promotional and merchandising support to rodeo committees to host events in their own communities. The money raised stays in the community to promote early detection and mammograms, provide transportation to medical appointments, support local clinics and hospitals and offer assistance to families.

"It's truly a grassroots effort," explained founder Terry Wheatley. "I'm humbled and couldn't be prouder to be part of it."

Terry Wheatley also is the President of Vintage Wine Estates, a leading wine company. A wine she created, Purple Cowboy, gives back 100% of its profits to Tough Enough to Wear Pink. Purple Cowboy is the Official Wine of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association.

Other generous sponsors include: Wrangler, Montana Silversmiths, Twisted X, Cinch Jeans and Las Vegas Events.

Each year, Tough Enough to Wear Pink recognizes the leading fundraising Tough Enough to Wear Pink events. This year, the number one rodeo honor goes to Cattlemen's Days TETWP. This tenacious group raised over $600,000 that stayed in their hometown. Other notable fundraisers includes TETWP of Montana, The Cowboy's for Cancer Research and Twin Falls TETWP.

About Tough Enough To Wear Pink?

TETWP was created by entrepreneur and breast cancer survivor Terry Wheatley along with Karl Stressman to bring the sport of professional rodeo and the western community together to rally against breast cancer. Since its inception in 2004, TETWP has empowered rodeos in the U.S. and Canada to focus attention on the need for a cure. To date, the campaign has raised $37 million for breast cancer charities, most of which stays right in the local communities. The grassroots movement has inspired other sports communities to mount their own TETWP campaigns, spreading a message of hope and support that reaches beyond the rodeo arena to competitors, families and fans across America. Macau And Las Vegas Gaming Revenues Are Headed In Opposite Directions: What’s Next? – Benzinga – Benzinga

Posted: at 5:25 am

Las Vegas, Nevada, and Macau, China, are two of the largest global casino gambling hubs. Both gaming destinations took big hits during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the latest gross gaming revenue numbers suggest Vegas is bouncing back strong while Macau is still struggling.

The Numbers: Many Americans think of Vegas as the top gambling destination, but Macaus gross gaming revenue dwarfs Las Vegas. Unfortunately for Macau investors, its gross gaming revenue is still roughly 70% below 2019 levels, according to Bank of America analyst Shaun Kelley. Meanwhile, Las Vegas GGR is up 30% from pre-pandemic 2019 levels, suggesting the worst of the pandemic is now in the rear-view mirror.

On Monday, Kelley said he models fourth-quarter Las Vegas GGR growth of 17% for MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) and 10% for Caesars Entertainment Inc (NASDAQ:CZR) compared to the fourth quarterof 2019. Meanwhile, Kelley is also modeling fourth-quarter Macau GGR tobe down roughly 60% from 2019 levels for Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS) and Wynn Resorts, Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN).

Macau Headwinds: In addition to sluggish gaming revenues, Macau is also suffering from negative investor sentiment after 10 casino junket officials were recently arrested.

This development, in our view, is more of a crackdown/intervention risk than the concession process from back in September, but is yet another example of the 3 Cs (COVID, crackdown and concession) risks that make Macau difficult for investors at the moment, Kelley said following the arrests.

Prior to COVID-19, VIP gaming represented 46% of Macaus total gross gaming revenue, Kelley said. As of the third quarter, that percentage had dropped to 34%.

Benzingas Take: Gaming investors looking for less risk in the space should take a closer look at U.S. stocks that have no exposure to Macau. Kelley recently named several of his top gaming stock picks heading into 2022, including Boyd Gaming Corporation (NYSE:BYD), Churchill Downs, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHDN) and Caesars Entertainment.

Security, intimacy and money: why Adele is going to Las Vegas – The Guardian

Posted: at 5:25 am

Las Vegas shows once conjured images of early-bird dinner specials, corny magicians and Cole Porter standards sung to happily clapping coach parties. But with another of the worlds biggest pop stars signing on to perform in the city, namely Adele, the Vegas concert residency is further cemented as a glamorous and lucrative rite of pop passage.

Her fourth album, 30, released last month, became the biggest-selling album of the year in the US after just three days on sale. That is the kind of popularity that warrants a stadium tour indeed, she played to nearly 3 million punters across the 120-show stretch of her previous 2017-2018 world tour.

But for her Vegas residency, every Friday and Saturday between 21 January and 16 April at the Colosseum in the Caesars Palace casino, she will play to about 4,000 people a night. Tickets are so sought-after that they are likely to all be bought by registered fans Ticketmaster has advised there may be none on general sale.

It used to be that these relatively intimate shows were a sign of an artist in their twilight years, epitomised by Elvis Presley: his early 70s Vegas shows were rejuvenating and iconic, but by the middle of the decade he was overweight, drug-addicted and isolated.

For years, it was where careers go to die youre near the end when you go to Vegas, says James Hanley, the news editor at live music industry publication IQ. But that has definitely shifted in the 21st century. Cline Dion was a gamechanging moment when she came in, in 2003. Then there was the rise of the superstar DJ the likes of Calvin Harris and the Chainsmokers had very lucrative residencies. And then in 2013 Britney Spears kicked off a wave of younger pop artists like Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga.

The city has retained a cachet throughout, successfully curating its image as a debauched yet classy pleasure spot. Its the entertainment capital of the United States, super-easy to fly into, so its a great destination [for live music], says Greg Parmley, the chief executive of music trade body Live.

Theres a great heritage there, going back to the days of the Rat Pack, Hanley adds, making a residency a bucket-list thing for a lot of artists.

It adds up to an obvious choice for Adele. Las Vegas is fairly close to her home base of Los Angeles, where she co-parents her son Angelo with her ex-husband Simon Konecki, and she has said, even on stage, that she is not well suited to touring vast venues. Particularly on 30, her music is intimate and conversational, and her famed repartee on stage evokes the standup comedians who are also big draws in Las Vegas: this material works best when you can see the whites of your audiences eyes.

Adele admits she doesnt like touring instead, she can be situated in one place for weeks on end, so that solves that issue, Hanley says. It wasnt like she felt out of place in Wembley stadium, but the more natural home of the music is the sort of environment you have in Vegas.

The other draw, of course, is the money. The sums can be enormous: Cline Dions pair of residencies between 2003-2007 and 2011-2019 generated $681m (514m) in ticket sales, and under the terms of her current deal which began in 2017, she will earn $272m from concerts in Vegas until 2026.

But greater revenues can still be generated through touring venues with larger capacities, and Parmley says the attraction of Vegas ultimately comes down to the lifestyle of the artist. If they are at a point in their life, be it due to family or career, where they dont want to be on the road, Vegas offers an opportunity to have a stable base and still be performing every few nights. Its not for everybody, but it will certainly suit some artists.

He adds: Its much easier to maintain the quality of the show, as opposed to when youre touring and youre loading the production into a new building every night. [A Vegas residency] allows the production to be as good as it possibly can be.

Other big stars are currently preparing Vegas jaunts. Katy Perrys residency Play begins on 29 December, and Jennifer Lopez is expected to return after her All I Have residency in 2016, saying earlier this year: Ive been offered that option I just cant wait to get back to doing that. The combination of security, remuneration and intimacy means that artists, to borrow the citys fabled motto, tend to stay in Vegas.

‘Cake Boss’ Buddy Valastro Expands on the Las Vegas Strip With Sandwiches, Mozzarella Bar – Eater Vegas

Posted: at 5:25 am

Add Cake Boss Buddy Valastro to the list of celebrities opening a new restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip in 2022. The star of the TLC series Cake Boss gets ready to open the Boss Caf by Buddy Valastro at the Linq in early 2022.

Valastro, who already has Buddy Vs Ristorante and Carlos Bakery at the Venetian and PizzaCake at Harrahs, goes casual with Boss Cafe, serving fare reminiscent of neighborhood delis and markets he frequented in New Jersey and New York. Baked breads, Italian sandwiches, pizzas, a house-made fresh mozzarella bar, and a variety of sweets and pastries make up a bulk of the menu. At the restaurants Mozz Bar, customers can grab fresh mozzarella served with warm rustic bread and a choice of toppings such as basil pesto, roasted peppers, tomato-olive relish, or tomato, fresh basil, and aged balsamic. Valastro tapped his father in-law to head up the Mutz Masters, who will pull the mozzarella in an open kitchen.

Valastro worked with his corporate executive chef, Bryan Forgione, the former executive chef at Buddy Vs Ristorante since 2013, to create the menu. Customers order from different counters, where they can get house salads including Pops panzanella or the Hoboken chop. Over at the sandwich counter, diners can order classics such as rosemary ham or Caprese served on fresh Jersey focaccia or East Coast hoagies like the Jersey beef or the Valastro with smoked pancetta. A pizza counter plans to serve Grandma Squares in renditions such as Margherita, pepperoni, or the Boss supreme. Desserts, of course, will be a mainstay of the restaurant, with options such as lobster tail pastry, tiramisu, cheesecake, cannoli, assorted cakes, and fresh-baked cookies.

The 1,400-square-foot space designed by New Yorks Celano Design features indoor seating as well as grab-and-go options in a marketplace-inspired space.

Valastro joins Guy Fieri at the Linq.

Community rallies around CF Montreal coach with brain cancer: We have to win this game – Globalnews.ca

Posted: at 5:25 am

There has been a huge outpouring of support for a CF Montreal coach diagnosed with brain cancer.

Though the multiple surgeries and chemotherapy treatments have been taking their toll on Jason Di Tullio, the 37-year-old says the encouragement hes received from his family and the entire soccer community has been giving him strength.

There are lots of ups and downs, Di Tullio told Global News in an interview.

Ihave some really good days, and some really rough days, both mentally and physically.

The RDP native said he has lived and breathed soccer since childhood. He worked his way up from local leagues to playing for the Montreal Impact, winning a league championship in 2004. He got into coaching after injuries forced him to retire from playing. Nowadays, hes an assistant coach with CF Montreal, honouring a promise he made to his parents when he dropped out of college.

Story continues below advertisement

I promised them that I was going to make something out of it, he explained.

Di Tullio is now in a battle more difficult than anything he ever faced on the field. In June, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer with no cure and a very low survival rate.

It was tough, one of the toughest moments. I replay that conversation over and over in my head, he said, recounting the moment at doctor told him he had brain cancer.

The diagnosis has been tough on his whole family.

When Im with my son, we laugh, we cry, said Giulia Claudia Garofano, Jasons mother. I try not to cry in front of him.

Hes had multiple brain surgeries, chemotherapy treatments, and has a machine attached to him.

It sends electric fields that go to where the tumour was and it kind of helps it not mutate, he explained.

Anyone who knows Di Tullio knows the words he lives by: la grinta. Its a sort of nickname and motto.

Its fight. Its perseverance. Its never giving up, he explained. Its just figuring it out.

Di Tullio said he was never the most skilled soccer player but always succeeded because of his drive and grit. Its something he preaches as a coach, and its a rallying call for those who support him.

The FC Montreal academy chanted grinta in a video they sent to encourage him.

Not long after his diagnosis, old teammates from his 2004 championship team surprised him with a party near his home.

I couldnt stop crying, his mother recounted.

In July, he got a heros welcome when he attended a game at Saputo Stadium.

In late November, he felt well enough to help coach FC Montreal in the lead-up to their match against Toronto FC for the Canadian championship.

I really came at my rhythm, which wasnt easy because Im a man with a lot of pride, he said. I wasnt 100 per cent, but they made me feel that Jason Di Tullio thats not 100 per cent is better than Jason Di Tullio thats not around.

With him in their corner, Montreal defeated Toronto to win the Canadian championship.

You think about, will you ever have an opportunity again to lift up a cup? All of a sudden two weeks later, youre lifting up a cup and walking around Saputo Stadium. I cherish those moments, Di Tullio told Global News.

This week, some of his former teammates launched a GoFundMe campaign for him, raising more than $100,000 in just a few days.

It was hard because were a family with a lot of pride, but as I was going through this process and through this journey, I realized that staying alive is very expensive, he said.

Aside from daily expenses, he wants to use the money to fund research or to travel to participate in clinical trials.

Story continues below advertisement

I have a lot of faith in him and he is going to make it. Theres too much around him, just too much love. Hes going to make it, said his mother.

Di Tullio feels with the strength of his community behind him, he can beat the disease.

People say we have to win this game. Well, Ive got to win this one and I cant do it without my wolf pack.

You can find the GoFundMe here.

BlazBlue CentralFiction and Cross Tag Battle to Add Rollback Netcode; Public Testing for CF Begins Today – Wccftech

Posted: at 5:25 am

BlazBlue fans have had things a bit rough throughout the past year or so. After Cross Tag Battle got zero updates since February 2020, the series was left dormant. Arc System Works had released BlazBlue: Alternative Darkwar in an attempt to provide the series with more content. However, that plan fell apart, as Alternative Darkwar announced its closure recently, being active for less than a year.

Not everything is doom and gloom for BlazBlue players, though. Yesterday, at Community Effort Orlando 2021 (abbr. CEO), following the conclusion of the Guilty Gear Strive Top 8 finals, Arc System Works had a couple of new details for fans of their games. The focus on this article will check on the status of the beloved anime fighting series, Blazblue.

DNF Duels Latest Traier Showcases the Inquisitor

To put it simply; after multiple years of no updates, both BlazBlue Centralfiction and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle will be getting updates that add rollback netcode. Centralficiton players on Steam dont have to wait long at all; rollback netcode will be available in a beta today. This comes after a few years of no updates (because of a small bugfix on PS4 in September 2018). After Jubeis DLC release in 2017, Centralfiction got no content updates until now.

To access the public test of Rollback netcode for BlazBlue: Centralfiction, users need to apply for the public test over on Steam. This menu is located on BBCF's properties.

Meanwhile, over on the BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle side of things, they received nine new characters towards the end of 2019, and then a bugfix patch two months after. After that? Radio silence, presumably so the development team can work on BlazBlue Alternative Darkwar (and we all know how that one turned out).

BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War will End its Service on January 2022

Rollback will come to Cross Tag Battle sometime in 2022 and will release on PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam. Nintendo Switch players, however, will be left in the back on both rollback updates, as no news of the update for either game is available for the Switch version.

BlazBlue Centralfiction is available now on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch. BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is available now on PlayStation 4, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch.

MAN IS AN END IN HIMSELF

Why does man need morality?

The typical answer is that we must learn to deny our own interests and happiness in order to serve God or other people and morality will teach us to do this.

Rands answer is radically different. The purpose of morality, she argues, is to teach us what is in our self-interest, what produces happiness.

Man has, she observes, no automatic code of survival. . . . His senses do not tell him automatically what is good for him or evil, what will benefit his life or endanger it, what goals he should pursue and what means will achieve them, whatvalueshis life depends on, what course of action it requires.

This is what the science of ethics studies and what Objectivism offers. Man must choose his actions, values and goals, she summarizes, by the standard of that which is proper to man in order to achieve, maintain, fulfill and enjoy that ultimate value, that end in itself, which is his own life.

Rand consciously saw herself as a moral radical and revolutionary, who challenges both the conventional damnation of selfishness as evil and the conventional glorification of altruism, the doctrine that man must live for others, as good.

She argues that selfishness, properly understood, does not mean doing whatever you feel like doing or exploiting others, and that altruism does not mean benevolence or goodwill but the opposite.

The Objectivist ethics holds that the actor must always be the beneficiary of his action and that man must act for his ownrationalself-interest. But his right to do so is derived from his nature as man and from the function of moral values in human life and, therefore, is applicableonlyin the context of a rational, objectively demonstrated and validated code of moral principles which define and determine his actual self-interest. It is not a license to do as he pleases and it is not applicable to the altruists image of a selfish brute nor to any man motivated by irrational emotions, feelings, urges, wishes or whims.

AYN RAND,Introduction,The Virtue of Selfishness

Ayn Rand on the Pursuit of Happiness

Ethics, according to Rand, is a science. It studies the values you must achieve and the virtues you must practice to attain happiness.

Crucial to this science is a concrete projection of the moral ideal, a vision of what you should be seeking to embody in your soul. An exhaustive philosophical treatise defining moral values, with a long list of virtues to be practiced, she writes, will not do it; it will not convey what an ideal man would be like and how he would act . . . . There is no way to integrate such a sum without projecting an actual human figure an integrated concretization that illuminates the theory and makes it intelligible.

Only art can do this. Rands stated goal as a fiction writer is the projection of an ideal man; her nonfiction is the theory behind that vision.

To understand Rands new morality, therefore, you must explore both her novels and nonfiction, which these links will help you to do.

Book Review | Peter Thiel, tech and power – newframe.com

Studies of technology tycoons have become a staple of the biography shelf in the past decade. Bestsellers such as Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson and Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance have walked a fine line between candid exploration and hagiographic veneration.

While showing their subjects as ruthless businesspeople who mistreat their employees and the people in their personal lives, they also praise their innovations as paving the way to a better future. Their personal cruelty and narcissism are often painted as the price the world has to pay for genius.

These depictions conform with Silicon Valleys self-image, as big tech companies claim that their operations offer solutions to all the worlds political and social problems. Government regulation, unions and taxation, by contrast, are forces that impede progress.

But as Bloomberg journalist Max Chafkin demonstrates in his new biography of right-wing entrepreneur Peter Thiel, the progressivism of Silicon Valley is a carefully constructed myth. Since the Silicon Valley area in northern California in the United States became associated with cutting-edge information technology during the Cold War, the regions success has relied on its extensive business and political connections with the US military and big business.

As Chafkin writes, its dominant culture has always been Ayn Rand-style libertarianism, which views the rich as heroic figures who deserve untrammelled power and retains a deep hostility to ideals of democracy and egalitarianism.

These trends are exemplified in the career of venture capitalist Thiel, who made his fortune by investing early in companies such as PayPal (with Musk) and later Facebook, which has now been rebranded to Meta.

Thiel has a public reputation for eccentricity. Widely circulating news stories have him buying land in New Zealand to survive a future apocalypse and promoting a company involved in researching how to prolong life. The latter included harvesting young peoples blood, which led to the surreal headline Billionaire Trump supporter Peter Thiel denies being a vampire in the Independent newspaper in 2018.

But behind these stories is a cynical and wealthy power broker who used his fortune not only to support Donald Trumps 2016 presidential campaign, but also retains links to even more politically extreme figures in the alt-right movement.

Chafkin shows that Thiel who was born in Germany, spent time in South Africa-occupied Namibia as a child and later publicly defended apartheid while a student at Stanford University in California is motivated by a dangerous mix of rampant self-interest and genuine ideological conviction.

His support for Trump was rooted partly in ensuring a regulatory environment that would allow minimal taxation for himself and other billionaires. But he also viewed Trump and his supporters as an opening to create an alliance between right-wing libertarianism and xenophobic and nationalist political movements.

Thiel, Chafkin makes clear, is motivated by a reactionary vision of the future that combines free movement of capital and the rich with hardline anti-immigration policies. Despite saying that political democracy is a mistake and policy should be dictated by the rich, he saw Trumps mass supporter base as an opportunity to attain more power.

His anti-regulation stance does not translate into a rejection of authoritarian power. In contrast, much of his fortune is linked to his company Palantir, which conducts data surveillance for the US security state, including involvement in the harsh migrant policing regime of the countrys Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Thiel was a formidable chess player from a young age. He attended Stanford University to study law, but spent much of his time running The Stanford Review, which specialised in angry tirades against liberals and left-wingers on campus. From the late 1980s, Thiel associated himself with the culture wars of the Republican Party.

He turned his chess skills of anticipating the future into working as a venture capitalist, providing start-up financing for technology companies. Rather than having a genius for radical new ideas, however, Thiels strength lay in working out how to repackage existing business models for the internet age.

Chafkin writes that instead of pioneering major scientific advances, the tech industry relies on privatisation and monopolisation. Uber, for example, found a way to enclose the taxi cab business, while Amazon swallowed up traditional retail.

Thiel combined this approach with his ideologies. He supported PayPal because he saw it as a way of circumventing government regulation of banking transactions. And in the early 2000s he became involved with Mark Zuckerberg. Facebooks internal motto was move fast, break things, which meant disrupting existing means of receiving news. Thiel saw it as a space perfect for unrestrained right-wing propaganda and fearmongering.

Facebook has been criticised extensively during the Covid-19 pandemic for providing a platform of extreme conspiracism and harmful medical misinformation. Chafkin makes the case that this was not only from a lack of oversight, but also the result of the financial and political model it has followed from its inception.

While building his wealth throughout the 2000s, Thiel threw his weight behind fringe ideologies. Some of the people to whom he has given patronage include neo-reactionary thinker Curtis Yarvin, who has called for tech chief executive-run dictatorships to replace electoral democracy and once said that although Im not a white nationalist, Im not exactly allergic to the stuff.

In the 2010s, as the overtly racist and fascist-aligned alt-right began to grow online, Thiel became, in the words of one of his friends, Nazi-curious. He engaged with this movement while ensuring he distanced himself from some of its more notorious members, refusing to meet white nationalist Richard Spencer after he was caught on camera using the Nazi victory salute Sieg Heil.

In contrast, he viewed Trump as a far more credible political ally. When Trump began his run for the US presidency in 2015, his inflammatory statements on race and immigration caused many Silicon Valley companies which finance both Democratic and Republican candidates to buy influence to shun his fundraising efforts for fear of backlash from their staff and the wider public.

Thiel had no such reservations. He committed money and time to supporting Trump, even speaking at the 2016 Republican National Convention where Trump was chosen as the presidential nominee.

Once Trump was in office, Thiel hoped to capitalise on his support. His plan was to have extreme libertarians placed in high positions in the US federal government and to replace public institutions with a technocracy.

In practice, internal Washington politics stymied his megalomaniacal schemes and he was unable to make any impactful appointments while Trump was in power. But Thiel seems to have lost none of his political ambition. In a 2020 interview, he claimed that Covid-19 means the future has been set free. For Thiel, Chafkin writes, the pandemic is a chance to reset society according to his plans and ideals.

These ideals amount to little more than making capitalism even more brutal, nihilistic and destructive than it is currently.
