Live Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean in "Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life" – MiceChat
Posted: June 28, 2021 at 9:52 pm
No fear of evil curses, says you?
This is one of those moments when you ask wow, is this really happening? Sea of Thieves, a pirate action-adventure game by developer Rare Limited, always was kind of the kindred spirit of Pirates of the Caribbean. Now, the two are crossing over with Sea of Thieves: A Pirates Life, and theres a lot for fans of the game, Pirates films, and the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction to love. In fact, this free addition to Sea of Thieves is essentially an eight-hour playable Pirates of the Caribbean movie with more than a smattering of Disneylands original attraction blended in.
Boasting three years of continuous content updates and 20 million players, Sea of Thieves has been a massive success for Rare. Ive been playing since the game was in beta, and when Rare says there has never been a better time to get into Sea of Thieves, they really mean it.Seriously, I cannot put down A Pirates Life, which is very bad my pirate runs on grog, but I run on sleep.
Lets set the tone with a little music and dive down deep, to the depths of the Sea of Thieves:
A Pirates Life isnt just adding Captain Jack Sparrow to an already existing game, nor is it just a Pirates of the Caribbean add-on. This is a full-sized story update consisting of five Tall Tales to explore. I really mean eight hours. Im surprised to see this as a free update to a game that retails at a comparatively cheap $40. Heck, you can play the whole story for $1 if you sign up for a trial of Xbox Game Pass.
The tone, humor, and fantastical nature of Sea of Thieves is a perfect fit for a little Pirates of the Caribbean infusion. Authentic to the Pirates of the Caribbean, while staying true to the Sea of Thieves is how VP of Disney & Pixar games, Luigi Priore put it.
Disneyland fans will be delighted to know that the entire first Tall Tale is essentially an homage to the original attraction. From the moment you enter the Sea of the Damned, the nostalgia fountain is turned on. A Ghostly Parrot appears, speaking the lines of the parrot at the entrance of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.
Soon after, a scene full of the dead in rowboats, holding lanterns; very reminiscent of At Worlds Ends departure from Davy Jones Locker. Finally, eerie dialogue, actually the exact audio that the skull speaks before the first drop, plays as spectral ships with no crew sail past.
Ye come seeking adventure in salty old pirates eh?
Coming ashore, more familiar lines echo across the stone of the caves.
Dead men tell no tales.
Thats because its literally the attraction dialogue.
Who knows when that evil curse will strike the greedy beholders of this bewitched treasure?
The caves play out much the same as the ride, full of greedy skeletons, as you follow the ghosts of a long-dead crew who didbehold the cursed treasure. You can imagine what happened to them.
All the while, Rare has put together rather special renditions of both the Pirates of the Caribbean overture and Yo Ho, a Pirates Life for Me that plays behind the action. It fits so well that if you didnt know the attraction tune, youd swear it was a Rare original.
Of course, the original versions are inserted in clever places, like the tavern in Sailors Grave. The classic version of Yo Ho, a Pirates Life for Me plays as the ghosts of a pirate crew act like animatronics, firing their flintlocks at each other and singing drunkenly.
Sea of Thieves music was so good already that Rare has intertwined their own tracks with the Pirates ones with spectacular results. For example, sailing through the bayou has a delightfully spooky track that mixes a slow banjo version of Yo Ho, a Pirates Life for Me and Sea of Thieves own shanties like Bosun Bill. An album release really is in order (you can listen to some in the video down below).
Pirates film fans will love the frantic climax to the first Tall Tale. After rescuing Jack Sparrow (who is offering a familiar dog with keys in its mouth a bone) from the Ferrymans brig, a thrilling high-speed naval battle between the Flying Dutchman and the Ferry of the Damned breaks out.
Davy Jones has his own dark plans for the glowing key that got Jack locked up in the brig. These big set pieces are new for the game, epic in scale just like Pirates of the Caribbean. Rare really brought the charm of Pirates, both the ride and the film series, to the Sea of Thieves, but have done so in a way that weaves the two IPs together.
The third Tall Tale, Captains of the Damned is quite faithfully delving into Captain Jack Sparrows past escapades; literally playing through idealized versions of the film, starting with the meeting with Tia Dalma in the bayou.
In the gruesome mass hanging scene at the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, the pirates lined up for execution all sing Hoist the Colours. When entering the prison fort, the skeletal remains of all those pirates are still stuck in their cages as ghostly voices chant Yo-ho, haul together. Hoist the colors high. Its quite haunting how well Rare has mixed the film scenes in with their storyline; this readies you quite well for a big battle with Barbossas crew on the beach.
The centerpiece for this tale is the raid on Isla Tesoro, which you might recognize as the siege scene on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Venturing through the town in this way and seeing vignettes of the attraction sceneswell, theres just no other way to experience the Disneyland attraction quite like this.
The whole town has been realized and the developers have gone out of their way to let you explore the show scenes.
All the major scenes are present and feel just like the ride, again including the original attraction audio. Whats great is you can just stand and watch, theres nothing pushing you along, its pure visual storytelling and fan service.
Of course, Jack Sparrow is there, the point of being here is to find him. Hes hiding where you expect, but he sneaks away when you approach. Its sort of interesting to watch Sparrow fill in the gaps from the ride, like actually stealing the keys from his barrel hiding place.
You suspect he does it on the ride because how else does he get into the treasury? Well, now you get to watch him do it and stumble out of the barrel.
Getting to walk around the town and then through the fort itself adds quite a lot of perspective to the classic attraction this is based on.
Escaping Isla Tesoro, your pursuers burn down the town!
Overall, Im impressed. Its everything I wanted in a playable version of Pirates of the Caribbean.
If youre feeling a bit nostalgic after that, the prison dog with the keys is actually available as a pet through the Pirate Emporium.
While you can earn many cosmetic items just by playing the game, the Emporium has some interesting bits, like the dog, outfits of the Black Pearl crew, and Black Pearl themed cosmetics for your ship.
I was initially a little hesitant to recommend Sea of Thieves to the general audience here at MiceChat. You see, Ive sailed with many friends, and this can be a frustrating game initially because, well, other players are pirates. Pirates will shoot you, sink your ship, and steal your treasure because theyre pirates. If youre new to the game, I recommend checking out the Pirate Academy to learn the mechanics. Fortunately, some (not all) of the tales do take you outside the Sea of Thieves, thus allowing you to avoid other players for a time. So, make no mistake about it, this IS a game I think is well worth the time of learning.
Ive covered a few references, but to truly appreciate them, Ive put together a cinematic look at the first and third Tall Tales intercut with a few images from the attraction for comparison. Ive also tried not to spoil too much of the story for those who still want to play through it, but be aware this may spoil some of the fun surprises but I know many of you will want to see more, so here you go:
Are you ready to rescue Captain Jack Sparrow and save the pirates way of life in the Sea of Thieves? A Pirates Life is available as a free update to Sea of Thieves now, all you need is a copy of the original game:
Its available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam or the Microsoft Store. To get you started, theres a 33% discount on Steam until July 8th. Sea of Thieves is also included in Xbox Game Pass(Xbox and PC), meaning you could get up and running for only $1. For that price, I highly recommend giving A Pirates Life a go, its a must-play.
The A Pirates Life add-on is not only the most fun Ive had with Sea of Thieves since it released, but its also the most fun Ive had with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise since Curse of the Black Pearl. Lets hear from you, have you played Sea of Thieves? Would you want to give it a try now? Let us know in the comments below.
Were devils and black sheep, were really bad eggsDrink up me earties, yo ho!
Sharing is caring!

On this Tuesday, June 22, episode of Sundial
COVID Spike In Florida Nursing Homes
COVID-19 cases in Florida nursing homes are on the rise, according to a new report from AARP.
From April to May, the organization found the number of new resident COVID cases in Florida facilities went up to 19% thats almost double the national average. Half of all facilities statewide reported at least one new case.
As the pandemic continues, you can rely on WLRN to keep you current on local news and information. Your support is what keeps WLRN strong. Please become a member today. Donate now. Thank you.
There's often a lot of confusion among families about what exactly is required and how their loved ones' facilities are interpreting those guidelines, said Hannah Critchfield, a reporter with the Tampa Bay Times covering aging communities.
While the country is racing towards 70% immunization on or around July 4, many nursing home staff members and residents still havent gotten their shots.
Florida is among the worst in the country in terms of vaccination percentages, both of nursing home residents and staff. We have less than half of Florida nursing home staff who are vaccinated, about 43%, said Jeff Johnson, the state director for AARP Florida. So it's pretty easy for them to pick up this coronavirus whether it's the Delta variant or one of the others and bring it into a facility.

Magic At The Caribbean Museum
The only Caribbean museum in the U.S. opened in Broward County during the pandemic.
Its the first of its kind to bring different Caribbean nations and cultures together under one roof.
What we've done is taken this full history of the entire Caribbean, starting from the indigenous peoples. When Columbus got here and the Europeans, they called it the new world. And there were people here already," said Calibe Thompson, the co-founder and executive director of Island SPACE Caribbean Museum. "So we kind of chuckle when we hear that it was discovered because there were already people here."
The museum highlights Indigenous people like the Tainos colonialism, emancipation, government and entertainment in the region.
Michael Sean Harris is the musical director for the museums upcoming Magic at the Museum event happening in-person and online on Sunday.
He worked on an exclusive song recording with popular Caribbean artists, such as Marcia Griffiths and Willie Stewart, among others.

Liborio
The Third Horizon Film Festival celebrates Caribbean culture and it's back for its fifth year. It's the first time the festival will be broadcasting to a global audience through virtual and in-person screenings in Miami.
One of the feature films this year is called "Liborio." It's set in the Dominican Republic in the 1920s and follows its main character, a prophet, as he inspires people to move to the mountains and follow their dreams to be more free.
Then U.S. Marines threatened to disband the community.
The myth said that he never dies. In fact, until today, there are a lot of people who believe that Liborio is still alive and inspiring a lot of people not to be fighting, but to be [healed] and to and to unite, said Nino Martinez Sosa, the director of the film.
Jason Fitzroy Jeffers, the co-director of the Third Horizon Film Festival also joined Sundial for the discussion.

Industries to be supplied with 160 nano products – Tehran Times
Posted: at 9:51 pm
TEHRAN Some 160 nano products required by the industry will be domestically produced by the end of the current [Iranian calendar] year (March 2022), the director of the industry group of the Nanotechnology Development Council has announced.
"It is planned to enter nano-products into 200 industries by the next 4 years," Mehr quoted Ali Asghar Najimi as saying on Friday.
Stating that currently 750 approved nano products are sold in the market, he said that by the end of this year about 250 more products will be added to the commercialized nano products.
"We have given priority to five industries of energy (oil, gas, electricity), health (including medicine, medical equipment, cosmetics), agriculture and food, water and environment, construction," he further noted.
There are two main programs for the commercialization of nano products; The first one is the "Technology Supply" program, which supports start-ups and technologists to develop new products; and the second program is related to the demand, which is accompanied by helping to meet the needs of industries and challenges of the country by using nanotechnology.
Last year (March 2020- March 2021), some 60 projects in nanotechnology were successful, which saved about $30 million in foreign currency, he highlighted.Pointing out that so far about 80 large industrial companies have used nano products, he added that by 2025, more than 200 large industrial companies will use nanotechnology to improve efficiency and productivity.
Nanotech increasing pace of development
Nanotechnologys trend of development is growing in Iran, as the number of nanoproducts and equipment developed in the previous [Iranian calendar] year (March 20) increased to 750, compared with 647 a year before.
Some 223 product manufacturing companies and 59 equipment manufacturing companies are active in the field of nanotechnology and by the end of last year, which developed a total of 750 products and equipment.
Of the 750 products and equipment registered in the nanotechnology product database, 535 were related to nano-products and 215 were related to nano-equipment, both of which have experienced a growing trend over the past few years, although nano-products have grown more significantly.
The field of civil engineering and construction with 20 percent had the largest share among nano products and equipment, followed by medicine, health and industrial services and supplies each with 13 percent.
Iran among five pioneers of nanotechnology
Iran has been introduced as the 4th leading country in the world in the field of nanotechnology, publishing 11,546 scientific articles in 2020.
The country held a 6 percent share of the worlds total nanotechnology articles, according to StatNano's monthly evaluation accomplished in WoS databases.
Iran ranked 43rd among the 100 most vibrant clusters of science and technology (S&T) worldwide for the third consecutive year, according to the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2020 report.
The country experienced a three-level improvement compared to 2019.
Sourena Sattari, vice president for science and technology, has said that Iran is playing the leading role in the region in the fields of fintech, ICT, stem cell, aerospace, and is unrivaled in artificial intelligence.
Iranian nanotechnology companies have increased sales by 100 percent over the Iranian calendar year 1398 (March 2019-March 2020), and it is predicted that their revenue will reach up to 80 trillion rials (nearly $1.9 billion at the official rate of 42,000 rials), Sattari announced.

Supreme Court Says You Can’t Sue the Corporation that Wrongly Marked You A Terrorist – EFF
Posted: at 9:51 pm
In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court late last week barred the courthouse door to thousands of people who were wrongly marked as potential terrorists by credit giant TransUnion. The Courts analysis of their standing whether they were sufficiently injured to file a lawsuitreflects a nave view of the increasingly powerful role that personal data, and the private corporations that harvest and monetize it, play in everyday life. It also threatens Congressional efforts to protect our privacy and other intangible rights from predation by Facebook, Google and other tech giants.
Earlier this year, we filed an amicus brief, with our co-counsel at Hausfeld LLP, asking the Court to let all of the victims of corporate data abuses have their day in court.
TransUnion wrongly and negligently labelled approximately 8,000 people as potential terrorists in its databases. It also made that dangerous information available to businesses across the nation for purposes of making credit, employment, and other decisions. TransUnion then failed to provide the required statutory notice of the mistake. The Supreme Court held this was not a sufficiently concrete injury to allow these people to sue TransUnion in federal court for violating their privacy rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Instead, the Court granted standing only to the approximately 1,800 of these people whose information was actually transmitted to third parties.
The majority opinion, written by Justice Kavanaugh, fails to grapple with how consumer data is collected, analyzed, and used in modern society. It likened the gross negligence resulting in a database marking these people as terrorists to a letter in a drawer that is never sent. But the ongoing technological revolution is not at all like a single letter. It involves large and often interconnected set of corporate databases that collect and hold a huge amount of our personal informationboth by us and about us. Those information stores are then used to create inferences and analysis that carry tremendous and often new risks for us that can be difficult to even understand, much less trace. For example, consumers who are denied a mortgage, a job, or another life-altering opportunity based upon bad records in a database or inferences based upon those records will often be unable to track the harm back to the wrongdoing data broker. In fact, figuring out how decisions were made, much less finding the wrongdoer, has become increasingly difficult as an opaque archipelago of databases are linked and used to build and deploy machine learning systems that judge us and limit our opportunities.
This decision is especially disappointing after the Courts recent decisions, such as Riley and Carpenter, that demonstrated a deep understanding that new technology requires new approaches to privacy law.
This decision is especially disappointing after the Courts recent decisions, such as Riley and Carpenter, that demonstrated a deep understanding that new technology requires new approaches to privacy law. The Court concluded in these cases that when police collect and use more and more of our data, that fundamentally changed the inquiry about our Fourth Amendment right to privacy and the Court could not rigidly follow pre-digital cases. The same should be true when new technologies are used by private entities in ways that threaten our privacy.
The majoritys dismissal of Congressional decision-making is also extremely troubling. In 1970, at the dawn of the database era, Congress decided that consumers should have a cause of action based upon a credit reporting agency failing to take reasonable steps to ensure that the data they have is correct. Here, TransUnion broke this rule in an especially reckless way: it marked people as potential terrorists simply because they shared the same name as people on a terrorist watch list without checking middle names, birthdays, addresses, or other information that TransUnion itself undoubtedly already had. The potential harms this could cause are particularly obvious and frightening. Yet the Court decided that, despite Congress clear determination to grant us the right to a remedy, the Court could still bar the courthouse doors.
Justice Thomas wrote the principal dissent, joined by Justices Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan. As Justice Kagan explained in an additional dissent, the ruling transforms standing law from a doctrine of judicial modesty into a tool of judicial aggrandizement. Indeed, Congress specifically recognized new harms and provided a new cause of action to enforce them, yet the Court nullified these democratically-enacted rights and remedies based on its crabbed view that the harms are not sufficiently concrete.
This could pose problems for a future Congress that wanted to get serious about recognizing and empowering us to seek accountability for the unique and new harms caused by modern data misuse practices, potentially including harms arising from decision-making based upon machine learning and artificial intelligence. Congress will need to make a record of the grievous injuries caused by out-of-control data processing by corporations who care more for their profits than our privacy and expressly tie whatever consumer protections it creates to those harms and be crystal clear about how those harms justify a private right of action.
The Courts opinion does provide some paths forward, however. Most importantly, the Court expressly confirmed that intangible harms can be sufficiently concrete to bring a lawsuit. Doing so, the Court rejected the cynical invitation from Facebook, Google, and tech industry trade groups to deny standing for all but those who suffered a physical or economic injury. Nonetheless, we anticipate that companies will try to use this new decision to block further privacy litigation. We will work to make sure that future courts dont overread this case.
The court also recognized that the risk of future harm could still be a basis for injunctive reliefso while you cannot seek damages, you dont have to wait until you are denied credit or a job or a home before seeking protection from a court from known bad data practices. Finally, as the dissent observed, the majoritys standing analysis only applies in federal court;state courts applying state laws can go much further in recognizing harms and adjudicating private causes of action because the federal "standing" doctrine does not apply. The good work being done to protect privacy in states across the country is now all-the-more important.
But, overall, this is a bad day for privacy. We have been cheered by the Supreme Courts increasing recognition, when ruling on law enforcement activity, of the perils of modern data collection practices and the vast difference between current and previous technologies. Yet now the Court has failed to recognize that Congress must have the power to proactively protect us from the risks created when private companies use modern databases to vacuum up our personal information, and use data-based decision-making to limit our access to lifes necessities. This decision is a big step backwards for empowering us to require accountability from todays personal data-hungry tech giants. Let's hope that it is merely an anomaly. We need a Supreme Court that understands and takes seriously the technology-fueled issues facing us in the digital age.

Weed is legal in CT, but some in Danbury area don’t want it sold in their towns. – Danbury News Times
Posted: at 9:51 pm
Days after Gov. Ned Lamont signed legislation legalizing marijuana, some Danbury-area communities are taking a step back.
Newtown and Ridgefield plan to consider banning cannabis establishments, while Danbury looks to impose at least a temporary moratorium. Local police departments, meanwhile, are bracing for challenges, such as how to tell if someone is driving while high.
Danbury and Newtown officials say they arent saying no to cannabis establishments forever. Danbury officials say they want more time to decide how to regulate them or whether to prohibit them.
The best way to do that is to take a time out, said Sharon Calitro, the citys planning director.
Danbury took the same pause when Connecticut approved medical marijuana, but now allows these dispensaries and expects one to move to the city soon.
The stigma against pot has died down in recent years, said Carl Tirella, general manager of New York-based Acreage Holdings, which owns the medicinal dispensary moving to Danbury.
It has been amazing to watch the growth of the program from a few hundred patients to over 50,000 patients in just over seven years and with rec(reational weed) on the horizon, it shows Connecticut is continually open for growth and change, he said.
His companys Compassionate Care Center of Connecticut hopes to move from Bethel to Danbury by early August. The company is evaluating whether it would want to sell recreational marijuana, too, he said. Becoming a hybrid retailer comes with a $1 million fee.
The law goes into effect Thursday, with retail sales expected to begin in late 2022.
The Town of Prospects Planning and Zoning Commission already voted unanimously to ban cannabis establishments.
Newtown First Selectman Dan Rosenthal said hes fine with decriminalizing marijuana, but he doesnt want his town to be one of the first with recreational dispensaries. The Planning and Zoning Commissions public hearing on the issue is Thursday.
Its best to sit on the sidelines, see how it plays out, he said. If at some point in the future, the willingness is there to reconsider, then perhaps they do that.
Rosenthal and Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi said theyre worried about the message selling weed in town would send to young people. Pot is legal only for adults 21 and over.
Alcohol and vaping have been a problem among young people, Marconi said.
What I dont want to have happen is find ourselves in the same position with the use of weed or marijuana increasing and additional accidents for various reasons that have been experienced in some states that have passed it, said Marconi, who plans to recommend the Planning and Zoning Commission prohibit the sale of marijuana in town.
A 2019 study found marijuana use among youth may decline after its been legalized, while a 2020 study found minimal short-term effects of pot legalization on substance use among young people, with small declines in marijuana use and an increase in the likelihood of e-cigarette use.
The Danbury Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on July 27 on the citys proposed temporary moratorium on applications, petitions and issuance of permits related to cannabis establishments. The commission will also consider amending the zoning regulations to include definitions related to cannabis.
The state will not begin issuing permits for recreational marijuana retailers until 2022, but businesses could still try to apply beforehand to open a dispensary in Danbury, Calitro said.
We have to get ahead of the curve, she said.
Existing regulations permit two medical marijuana dispensaries in the city, she said. One has already been approved and would not be affected, but new applications could not be submitted under the moratorium.
The moratorium would be in effect for a year at most, less if the city develops regulations on marijuana use sooner, she said.
The city will need to consider what affect weed establishments would have on certain areas in the city and the already permitted uses in those zones, Calitro said.
On the other hand, there is potential revenue to be had, she said. We have to weigh both things.
Newtowns existing regulations allow medical marijuana dispensaries, although the town does not have any, said George Benson, director of planning. The proposal would ban recreational and medicinal marijuana establishments.
Ridgefield prohibits medical marijuana facilities already, so the town must see how that ban is affected by the new law, said Richard Baldelli planning and zoning director and zoning enforcement.
The Brookfield Zoning Commission is expected to discuss how to handle the new law, said Nina Mack, land use administrative assistant. Existing regulations allow medical marijuana dispensaries with special permit approval, but they are not allowed to sell recreational weed without additional approval from the town.
Bethels existing zoning regulations do not permit cannabis to be grown or sold in town. Officials plan to discuss what to do now with legal counsel, said Beth Cavagna, town planner.
Bethel changed its zoning regulations to ban pot in 2014 after approving a medical marijuana dispensary, Compassionate Care Center of Connecticut the one moving to Danbury. Approval of that dispensary had been contentious at that time, but the new regulations did not affect it, Cavagna said.
Since then, the publics views on pot have changed, and the fears residents had over the dispensary did not play out, she said.
Weve never had issues over there, she said.
The dispensary is moving to Danbury because it needs a bigger space, Tirella said.
Some local police chiefs are worried the new law will make activities like traffic stops more difficult.
Redding Chief Mark ODonnell said police should have been better consulted on the law.
Im just dead set against it, he said.
Few officers in the area are trained to identify whether someone is driving while high on drugs, chiefs said.
It just hasnt been something thats been necessary by and large for quite some time, Danbury Chief Patrick Ridenhour said.
Its harder to test for marijuana than it is for alcohol. Officers must get trained as drug recognition experts, a lengthy, expensive process, Newtown Chief James Viadero said. Grants may be available to do so, he said.
Two officers in Newtown are trained as these experts, which is more than some departments have, he said. When police dont have one of these experts on duty, they call in officers from nearby departments, Viadero said.
Ridenhour said hes not sure whether any Danbury officers are trained as drug recognition experts maybe one is but more will need to be.
Well manage, Ridenhour said. We have to do everything we can for the safety of our residents and citizens and our visitors.
Cops can learn the law, but telling K-9s that weed is legal is harder. Police dogs cannot differentiate between pot and other drugs and could prompt an officer to search someone with a legal amount of weed, Viadero said. That could lead to lawsuits over claims of illegal search and seizure.
There is a possible Fourth Amendment issue, Viadero said. Were going to have to work through that.
Departments expect to get more guidance from the state Police Officers Standards and Training Council and will get feedback from officers in other states where marijuana has been legal.
Municipal employees, including cops, could still get in trouble for smoking pot.
Ridgefield plans to create a new policy based on the law, Marconi said. ODonnell is reminding his officers, too.
Its still a federal crime, ODonnell said. Police officers cant smoke marijuana regardless of if its legal here or not...Not that I worry about our personnel. Theyre all pretty good.
Reporters Alyssa Seidman and Shayla Colon contributed to this report.

Dr. Trance’s Unfinished Work, And More Music News and Gossip | Flagpole – Flagpole Magazine

MAYBE IM AMAZED: Its taken me several weeks to even begin to approach the magnificent new album by Nick Bradfield (White Rabbit Collective) named Unfinished Work. Although he released it under the name Dr. Trance, this body of worka truly incredible accomplishment of 16 tracks, many of which extend past the nine-minute markdeserves to have Bradfields proper name associated with it from the get-go. This is the second album, the first being The Chosen Ones (2017), in which Bradfield explores unrequited love, walking in faith and fearlessness and vanquishing hopelessness. Technically speaking, Bradfield works heavily with Ableton Live and synthesizers, multi-instrumentation and various human contributions. This method allows him to create albums that can vary quite significantly from each other, as this one does from the previously mentioned The Chosen Ones. Musically, this is quite akin to Icelands Sigur Rs and, similarly, breathes and exhales in deliberately wide spaces. Its themesholiness, devotion, hope, despair and resolutionare often explored immediately adjacent to each other. It cannot be absorbed in one listen nor broken into component parts, which is why, although there are specific tracks that I find to be stupendous, I wont advocate for any in particular. It commands and deserves uninterrupted listening but, upon doing so, requires no work other than a spirit of openness and acceptance. On a personal note, I have absolutely zero qualms about ranking this alongside Yoko Onos Season of Glass, John Coltranes A Love Supreme and George Harrisons All Things Must Pass. Find this on all streaming services as well as rabbitholestudios.org/dr-trance. Follow along at facebook.com/drtranceypants.
HOLA, CMO ESTS: Bilingual rockers Deaf Condors have a new five-song EP out now on Super Carnival Recordings named Sundown Radio. The Spanish-language immigrant declaration Vamos is a pretty killer representation of that weird era of hard rock that blended metal, hardcore and psychedelia, a style probably best represented previously by Faith No More. The very next track, Third World Blues, explores this style similarly but with more of a Meat Puppets tinge. The final track, Sundown Radio starts off with a full-on Ratt-style riff and continues this punchiness through the chorus. Its nearly six-minute running time makes it just way too long. Overall, though, this comes across as less than a polished release-ready collection and more like just a pretty solid demo. Listen for yourself over at deafcondors.bandcamp.com.
AND IT DONT STOP: This weeks Hip-Hop Pit Stop show at Live Wire is a showcase highlighting Volumes Hip Hop which has spent years establishing itself as an enthusiastic go-to source for all things related to Athens hip hop. Featured acts this night are DJ Bobfish laying down the vibes, as well as Followxforever, Boregard, DK, Unique, Paco Marquez (aka Ayo Paco), Elevxn and J.O. & Satch. This night is the next-to-last show of this residency, which is brought to you by ATHFactor-Liberty Entertainment. As mentioned before, these nights are structured as follows: Segment I (89 p.m.) is an open mic session with artists performing pre-submitted tracks, Segment II (99:30 p.m.) features guest DJs and Segment III (9:3011 p. m.) are the feature performances. THAT WHICH YOU CANNOT HEAR: Author, experimental musician and visual artist Grant Evans just released a new album via Pennsylvanias Flag Day Recordings. Its available as a digital album as well as a cassette tape and is named Taciturn, Moribund. Across these five tracks, Evans works with recorded tapes that he describes as in various states of erasure. Thus, the listeners experience is put in the odd situation of being as influenced by the unknown (i.e., whats been erased) as he or she is impacted by what is clearly present. That said, I wish Id have heard this before I knew Evans process for this, as my reaction would have been more authentic and less an attempt to imagine these fragments as pieces of something else. The empty spaces are not blanked-out canvasses though, and there are moments of very calm beauty, such as the entirety of Beige. Overall, theperhaps unintentionalemotional work involved is amplified simply by knowing the sounds here have undergone some, or many, layers of degradation. As a thought experiment, it calls into question how an experience is murkily affected by unknown absence. As a listening experience, it is non-jarring and quite peaceful. TIBASKO Perfect Their Psychedelic Future-Trance Sound On The One/Let Me Tell You – This Song is Sick
Posted: at 9:51 pm
Over the last three years, London duo Ken Petalcorin and Andy Bowden, better known collectively as TIBASKO, have been creating heat with an appetite for their productions. With both Ken and Andy holding strong musical backgrounds and impressive global travels, TIBASKO have forged a unique sound that spans breakbeat, trance, melodic house and more rich techno sounds. Their first official release of the year is The One/Let Me Tell You EP which comes out by way of Three Six Zero Recordings.
The title track, The One, displays a minimalist production style with a simple yet bright rhythm that allows the euphoric vocals to shine through. On Let Me Tell You, the pair take a more eclectic and emotional approach that caters more to their lockdown listeners from the past year. Bold in structure and tone, these two offerings pose TIBASKO as one of the brightest purveyors of melodic electronica.
Heres what they had to say about the inception of the songs:
Weve always looked to extend the frontiers of our music, especially when we envision how our music will be performed. We are introducing more live instruments such as the rich and intricate guitar solo from Ken, Balearic disjointed bells and warped vocals from fellow musician and good friend, Julia Church.
Stream the project below and enjoy!

Znas returns with awe-inspiring progressive trance EP, ‘Philia & Phobia’ – We Rave You
Posted: at 9:51 pm
The ever charismatic Znas is back with his latest EP titled Philia & Phobia. Released under the new SkyTrance brand, this EP is an identification of Znass overall approach when specifying his musical style, with Progressive Trance being at the very core of what the Spanish music producer feels most at ease with when creating such masterpieces.
As the owner of Znas Music, a multi-genre electronic music label that falls under the brands of SkyTrance and Technoland, it has become quite clear that Znass approach towards his musical style will not be influenced by the constant need of adapting to specific changes within the electronic dance scene. In further detail on the matter, the artist himself adds;
For this EP, Philia & Phobia, I have totally specified my musical style, which is going to be a reference in my artist brand. From now on, the public will identify my tracks like that, a very defined Progressive Trance style: melodic but with powerful bass, and tracks with a lot of punch, and with a very specific structure. My previous works can be framed in a type of experimental music that fused several styles, but that many times remained undefined.
As unique as the artist himself, Znas has opted for a specific approach when blessing his fans alike with his musical prowess. With each EP produced, the artist has claimed that they will always contain a Radio Edit version and an Extended Mix. Thinking more about the practicality and the needs of music, Znas has further stated;
I have also decided that my EPs always contain a Radio Edit version and an Extended Mix. Many will wonder why I gave up making an Original Mix version, because in my way of thinking it is not necessary according to how the music industry is focused, I think more about the practicality and the needs of music, and really radios or Spotify need a Radio Edit version, while deejays need an Extended version, thats why in my work I omit the Original version. Then the general public can buy or listen to the version that they like best.
With the words Philia and Phobia both driving from the Greek language, Philia focuses more on the friendship aspect of humans, whilst Phobia relates to the fear that as humans we cannot escape from. Meaningful to say the least, this latest EP is a representation of different elements and feelings that affect each and every human being, with Znas mentioning;
In this EP I delve into the psychology of the human being, and I try to make people understand that the opposite poles are closer than we think: extremes touch. And that both are equally harmful: hobby or excessive love (Philia) is as harmful as obsessive aversion or irrational fear for something (Phobia). We are slaves of our miseries, we are slaves of ourselves and of everything that surrounds us and influences us for better or for worse.
Out on the 25th of June via SkyTrance from Znas Music, you can check out the Philia & Phobia EP below, and let us know what you think of the two tracks composing this latest EP.
