SAE Revises Levels Of Driving Automation As Technology Advances – GM Authority

Posted: at 12:03 pm

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has released a revised rating system for autonomous vehicles that provides further clarity on the differences between the different driving system levels.

The SAE J3016 Levels of Automation range from no driving automation (Level 0) to full driving automation requiring zero human interaction whatsoever (Level 5). The organization says its newly revised rating system refines the previous version of the Recommended Practice with the addition of several new terms, substantial refinement and clarification of misinterpreted concepts, and restructuring of certain definitions into more logical groupings.

One of the most important changes provides further clarity on the differences between an SAE Level 3 and an SAE Level 4 system. An SAE Level 3 system, according to a newly published infographic, will not require any input from the operator when the autonomous system is active, but may request the driver takes over the controls in certain scenarios. A Level 4 system, by comparison, will not require the user to take over the controls, although its automated systems will only work in certain driving conditions. A Level 5 system, meanwhile, will work in all driving scenarios no matter what and will never require the driver to take over the controls at any point.

A good example of a Level 4 system is a geofenced autonomous taxi like the Cruise Origin, which is fully autonomous but can only work within a certain geographic area. A Level 5 vehicle, by comparison, would not be geofenced and would be able to autonomously take its occupants wherever they want to go.

Under the newly amended SAE J3016 Levels of Automation rulebook, SAE Level 1 and 2 driving automation systems have also been given the name Driver Support Systems instead of Automated Driving Systems used for SAE Levels 3 and above. This removes some of the confusion in the previous version of the J3016 standards, which referred to Level 1 systems as automated.

The SAEs amendments will be important as more automakers and autonomous driving companies begin to deploy more Level 3 and above vehicles on public streets in the coming years, helping politicians sort out the legal framework the semi-autonomous and fully-autonomous cars will operate in.

ThreatQuotient bets on data-driven automation for SOAR and XDR | News | Safety Explica .co – Explica

Posted: at 12:03 pm

ThreatQuotient has announced ThreatQ TDR Orchestrator, a new data-driven automation feature for more efficient and effective threat detection and response. This feature allows users to control what actions should be taken, when and why by using data.

ThreatQuotient is committed to data-driven automation for SOAR and XDR.

The security industrys approach to automation has overlooked the very different needs of detection and response use cases, he says. Eutimio Fernndez, director of ThreatQuotient Spain. The focus of ThreatQ TDR Orchestrator is the data, not the process. In detection and response, what is learned by taking an action is much more important than the action itself. ThreatQuotient has taken the opportunity to define and deliver automation in a way that reduces complexity for security teams.

With a shortage of security personnel, automation has become a key strategy to offload repetitive tasks and train humans to perform advanced security operations tasks more efficiently. To date, automation has been viewed as the definition of a process and the steps required to complete it. This approach ignores the fact that automation is much more than just executing the process. There are three important stages of automation that need to be defined and addressed:

1. Initiation Define what actions should be taken and when they should occur.

2. Execution Carrying out the defined course of action or process to completion

3. Learning Record what has been learned to analyze it and improve future response

ThreatQ TDR Orchestrator puts intelligence on the platform and not on individual playbooks by using Smart Collections and data-driven playbooks. The application of Smart Collections and Data-driven playbooks allow for easier setup and maintenance, and provide a more efficient automation output. This approach further addresses the three stages of automation Start, Run, and Learn easily and efficiently by allowing users to sanitize and prioritize data in advance, automate only when relevant, and simplify actions taken. It can be used to complement other playbook capabilities through vendor ecosystem partners or users can define data-driven playbooks within the ThreatQ platform. To improve the intelligence of the platform, you will also capture what you have learned to improve data analysis, which in turn improves the start-up phase of automation.

ThreatQ TDR Orchestrator use cases include, but are not limited to, automating the following:

Hunt down key threats as new intelligence is learned and record the results

Deploy blocking and detection content on EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) and network devices

Enrich threat intelligence that meets complex criteria, including relationships

Assign a user the task of patching a high priority vulnerability that is being used in relevant campaigns.

Greg ConnerVice President of Corporate DevelopmentBastian Solutions

We continue to be amazed by the number of companies that are trying to understand how automation can positively impact their businesses. While we were uneasy about how many people would attend the show, it was exciting to see all the interactions. There were many great introductions; the seminars and product demos were well attended; and were looking forward to where the future of industry trade shows is headed.

Most importantly, it has never been a more exciting time to be in our industry. Companies realize that investing in the right mix of scalable automation positions them for growth and success, so there is a lot of opportunity. A key focus for us is continuing to invest in our team of industry experts so as to support our growing client base.

After the challenges brought on by 2020, we anticipate market trends that reflect the need for automation and redundancy. The pandemic exposed major weaknesses in the supply chain and companies are looking at ways to mitigate future risk. In the past, automation was largely viewed as a cost savings strategy.

Automation of branding is set to increase – 2021 – Articles – Transform magazine

Posted: at 12:03 pm

There has been a shift in perspective around the use of technology and automation being used to enhance creativity and scaling content creation. This is likely due to the accelerated digital transformation of brands through the pandemic.

Half of marketers surveyed reported accelerated digital transformation in 2020.

The acceleration of digital transformation wiped away any lingering doubts about the need to apply automation to creative processes, says Andrew Hally, CMO at Byder.

Digital initiatives depend on a strong brand story and smooth digital experiences, powered by compelling and personalised content.

Not a single respondent working in video, design or a creative comms role reported a decline in demand of their services.

Of the 89% of respondents that believed technology can help creativity within organisations, only 1% said branding cannot be automated, a striking contrast from 23% in 2020.

Automation hasnt yet been broadly applied to upstream creative work, resulting in a content crunch that leaves brands struggling to keep up. Marketers are now ready to tap its potential to meet the demand for growing volumes of content and achieve the agility required for digital marketing, adds Hally.

The 2021 State of Branding report also identified breaking through on digital platforms as the biggest concern for comms creatives, specifically crowded platforms, creative content and brand consistency.

Bynder commissioned independent research specialist, Vanson Bourne, to conduct the research for this report. Between January and March 2021, 1,600 marketing and creative respondents were interviewed across the US, UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands.

Over 50% of Logistics Providers Will Focus on Automation to Meet Growing Delivery Volumes, According to Bringg’s State of Last Mile Logistics Report -…

Posted: at 12:03 pm

41% of logistics providers report their biggest challenge to scaling last mile operations is outdated business processes and manual operations, while another 36% point to legacy technology

CHICAGO, May 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ --Bringg, the leading delivery and fulfillment cloud platform provider, released findings today from a recent survey in its report, State of Last Mile Logistics. The report examines how logistics providers are focusing their last mile operations today, and highlights gaps in how key goals and priorities are being met through last mile technology.

As part of this report, Bringg surveyed 200 logistics leaders who work for companies with 200 - 50,000 employees across eight countries in North America and Western Europe. The results showed that the growth of eCommerce, customer expectations and rising last mile delivery volumes have created a capacity problem that logistics providers are struggling to fill. Over 60% of logistics service providers saw increased demand for last mile delivery, but a lack of visibility, automation and innovative tech is holding them back. 41% say their biggest challenge to scaling last mile operations is outdated business processes and manual operations, followed by legacy technology (36%).

A third-party ecosystem will rise to become the reliable partner for logistics services providers that cannot meet customer demand themselves. However, although there is a strong sense of urgency in the industry to fill the gaps in tech capabilities, it is important to note that meeting short term goals while facilitating long term growth is a key component to overall success.

Key findings in the report include:

"This past year has forced retailers and service providers to assess their supply chain agility and resilience," said Guy Bloch, CEO at Bringg. "While they want to take advantage of growing opportunities in the world of ecommerce, they are challenged by legacy systems, limited visibility and high operational costs. In 2021, we look forward to providing retailers and logistics providers cloud-based delivery and fulfillment solutions that digitize, automate and orchestrate their logistics operations. With greater visibility and control, they in turn can deliver better experiences to their customers."
