Its that time again time to look for upwardly mobile stocks at relative bargain prices. Weve just seen a pullback in market prices, but for some stocks the pullback started earlier and has run deeper. Thats opened up opportunities that Wall Streets analysts have been quick to point out. These are Strong Buy stocks, despite their recent slips in share value. The analysts have noted that each one has a path toward near-term gains, making the risk-reward factors suitable for return-minded investors. And with prices down lately, these are suitable for bargain hunters, too. Weve used TipRanks' database to find three stocks which meet that profile. Let's take a closer look. Farfetch, Ltd. (FTCH) Online retailers have obviously had an advantage in the past year, but on the flip side, the recent reopening of economies around the world has put some pressure on them. Farfetch, an online clothing retailer with an international profile headquarters in London, offices in New York, LA, Tokyo, Shanghai, Portugal, and Brazil shows both trends. The companys gains in 2H20 pushed its market cap well above $16 billion, while recent stressors have forced the stock price down by 38% since its February peak. Farfetch has a solid foundation, based on more than 3 million active customers and over 1,300 sellers on the platform. The company saw, in 2020, over $3.2 billion gross merchandise offered through the site, making it the top global platform for buying luxury products online. The gross merchandise value was up 49% from the prior year. At the top line, Farfetchs 2020 revenues were up 64% year-over-year, to $1.7 billion, with $540 million, about one-third of that total, coming in Q4. Covering Farfetch for J.P. Morgan, 5-star analyst Doug Anmuth notes that the recent weakness has created a compelling buying opportunity. This opportunity is based on: "1) FTCHs position as the leading global marketplace in the $300B luxury market that is rapidly shifting online; 2) FTCHs well-established e-concessions model that attracts more brands & inventory to the platform; and 3) FTCHs strong position in the high growth China luxury market through both the FTCH app & recently launched store on Alibabas Tmall Luxury Pavilion. FTCH should also see its first full year of EBITDA profit in 2021, with a path to greater scalability over time driven by leverage in both Gross Margin and G&A. In line with this bullish outlook, Anmuth rates FTCH an Overweight (i.e. Buy), with a $72 price target suggesting a one-year upside of 58%. (To watch Anmuths track record, click here) Overall, the Strong Buy consensus rating on Farfetch is based on 7 Buy reviews, which offset a single Hold. The stocks share price is $45.50, and the average target of $74.38 implies ~63% upside for the next 12 months. (See FTCH stock analysis on TipRanks) Oncternal Therapeutics (ONCT) The next stock on our list, Oncternal, is a clinical stage biopharma company focused on oncology. The company is working to develop new treatments for cancers with unmet critical needs. The companys pipeline has three drug candidate, in various stages of development from preclinical to a Phase 2 trial. The lead candidate in the pipeline, cirmtuzumab, is the one undergoing that trial. The drug is a monoclonal antibody that inhibits the ROR1 receptor in certain hematologic cancers. In December, the company released interim Phase 1/2 results of cirmtuzumabs efficacy in combination with ibrutinib. The combination compared favorably to ibrutinib as a single agent. Cirmtuzumab is also in a Phase 1 clinical study as a treatment agent for breast cancer; updated results released earlier this month showed that a partial response or a stable disease in half or more of the patient cohort. Despite the positive clinical results, Oncternals stock tumbled 30% this month. According to Northland analyst Carl Bynes, in a note titled Weakness Creates Buying Opportunity, investors should take this time to buy in. We view shares of ONCT as an essential holding for those investing in the oncology segment, with multiple clinical updates anticipated in 2Q21 serving as MAJOR catalysts. We believe cirmtuzumab (anti-ROR1 mAb) is positioned to become a breakthrough therapeutic for treating MCL and other ROR1-expressing malignancies. Further, we anticipate first-in-human dosing of its ROR1 CAR-T candidate in 2H21 in China," Bynes opined. Congruent with his upbeat outlook, Bynes rates ONCT an Outperform (i.e. Buy), and his $21 price target implies an impressive upside of 265% in the year ahead. (To watch Bynes track record, click here) Wall Street has taken a unanimous stance on ONCT, giving the stock 4 recent positive reviews for a Strong Buy consensus rating. The average price target, at $15.50, indicates ~170% upside from the share price of $5.75. (See ONCT stock analysis on TipRanks) BioLife Solutions (BLFS) Drug companies cant do their jobs without support services or the products supplied by companies like BioLife. The company supplies cell and gene therapy bioproduction tools, including cryopreservation storage units, biopreservation for blood storage, hypothermic storage and shipping media, and, importantly, cell thawing media allowing use of biosamples after cryopreservation. BioLifes quarterly top line has shown sequential gains in both Q3 and Q4. The third quarter gain was 14%, and increased to 30% in Q4. The Q4 revenue, at $14.7 million, was up 78% yoy. For the full year, the top line hit $48.1 million, a yoy gain of 76%. The company has provided 2021 revenue guidance in the range of $101 million to $110 million. With this in the background, we can look at the share performance. BLFS shares peaked in December, after rising 176% in 12 months. Since then, the shares have retreated 31%. Carl Bynes, of Northland Capital, sees that share retreat, again, as an in for investors. "We view the recent pullback in BioLife shares as a buying opportunity. BioLife, in our view, is uniquely positioned to emerge as the leading consolidator of the enabling technologies segment supporting the high-growth cell and gene therapy sector. The Co., through internal development and acquisitions, has amassed a comprehensive breadth of product and service offerings that support cell and gene therapy applications from development through commercialization, Bynes noted. To this end, Bynes rates BioLife an Outperform (i.e. Buy), along with a $55 price target to indicate a 12-month potential upside of ~75%. (To watch Bynes track record, click here) Looking at the consensus breakdown, Wall Street takes a bullish stance on BLFS. 6 Buys and 1 Hold issued over the previous three months make the stock a Strong Buy.' BLFS shares are selling for $31.51, and their $55.83 average price target suggests a 77% upside. Peppermint tea is an herbal tea thats widely used to treat a range of digestive conditions.

Peppermint oil, in particular, has been shown to decrease inflammation and treat symptoms of IBS like stomach pain, constipation, and bloating. Plus, it may help prevent muscle spasms in the stomach and intestines, which could also help prevent bloating (56).

That said, more research is needed to confirm whether the benefits of peppermint oil also apply to peppermint tea.

Closely related to vegetables like carrots, celery, and parsley, fennel is a plant known for its distinctive licorice-like flavor.

Interestingly, studies show that fennel and its seeds possess antispasmodic properties, meaning it can help relax the muscles in your intestinal tract to provide relief from gas and bloating (57).

It also acts as a diuretic to increase urine production and reduce water retention (57).

In addition to incorporating some of the foods and drinks listed above into your daily diet, several other strategies can help prevent bloating.

For starters, be sure to eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly. This can help reduce how much air you swallow to prevent gas buildup (58).

Some research also suggests that taking supplements like probiotics or digestive enzymes could be beneficial (59, 60).

To identify whether certain foods are causing your digestive issues, you may also consider tracking your food intake.

For example, foods high in fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols (FODMAPs) such as beans, dairy products, and garlic trigger digestive symptoms like gas and bloating in some people (61).

Other ingredients that commonly cause bloating include sugar alcohols, cruciferous vegetables, carbonated beverages, and beer.

Its also important to get plenty of sleep and regular exercise, as studies show that both sleep deprivation and physical inactivity may affect digestive health and worsen issues like bloating (62, 63).

Lastly, you may also consider consulting a doctor to determine whether you have any food sensitivities or other underlying conditions that could contribute to bloating, such as IBS.

Bloating is a common issue that can be caused by a number of conditions.

Many foods and drinks may help decrease bloating by reducing constipation, alleviating inflammation, and supporting a healthy fluid balance.

This is such a wonderful time of year! As spring commences, our thoughts turn to the great outdoors. For some, that great outdoors is their own yard. Thoughts of beautiful flowers, blossoming trees, fresh fruit and vegetables of our favorite varieties and grown to perfection as well as time sitting outside in beautiful contemplation enjoying all of it. With this thought in mind, lets look at the antithesis of inner peace and contentedness stress and anxiety.

Stress and anxiety seem to occur in more people than not. We live in a time where slow, monotonous work in the fields for our simple survival is replaced with frenetic activities trying to make life work. Shopping for every known food or luxury occupies some of that time. Working long hours, whether inside or outside of the home, going to the gym and every imaginable activity, constantly plugged in to social media, news, YouTube, and words in our ears from every direction creating fear and concern about the world we live in. It is no wonder we feel stressed and anxious.

We all pretty much recognize how stress and anxiety adversely affects our health and wellbeing (if not, refer to the many articles Ive written on this topic), but Id like to look at it from a weed, seed and feed standpoint.

For our emotional wellbeing, first we need to weed out the negativity and stressful factors. What things can you delegate to someone else to take something off your plate? What activity do you participate in that you dont like that you can find a happier and healthier solution to? Do you have negative people in your life that it is time to weed out and discard in a healthy way to all?

When you weed something negative out of your life you leave a hole. The brain and body do not like holes, so we need to seed something positive in its place. If you hate your job and weeded it out, what job can you replace it with to seed a more satisfying and abundant life? If you weeded out friends that bring you down or bring you stress, who would you like to build a healthier relationship with (and go and do that).

Then you need to feed it. Because our lives are so frenetic today, we have to plan time to feed relationships, to feed joy in our lives and to feed contentment. We also have to feed ourselves. Running around without proper fuel to sustain us just adds to the stress and anxiety that we feel. Feeding ourselves good, healthy foods and good, healthy food supplements is a good start.

Are You Eating Foods That Harm Your ‘Microbiome’? – WebMD

MONDAY, April 19, 2021 (HealthDay News) -- People who eat plenty of vegetables, fish and fiber may have more inflammation-fighting bacteria in their guts, but fast-food lovers may be feeding inflammatory microbes.

That's the conclusion of a new study that looked at people's diet habits and the makeup of their gut "microbiome."

The term refers to the vast collection of bacteria and other microbes that naturally dwell in the gut. Studies in recent years have been revealing just how important those bugs are to the body's normal processes from metabolism and nutrient synthesis to immune defenses and brain function.

In the new study, researchers found that people who ate diets rich in plant-based foods and fish akin to the famous Mediterranean diet had an advantage: More collections of gut bacteria that can temper inflammation.

On the other hand, people who favored meat, processed foods and sugar tended to have clusters of gut microbes that are pro-inflammatory.

Many studies have tied Mediterranean-style eating and plant-rich diets to lower risks of various diseases.

The researchers said the new findings add to evidence that effects on the gut microbiome are one reason why.

"Our study provides support for the idea that the gut microbiome could be one link between diet and disease risk," said senior researcher Dr. Rinse Weersma, a gastroenterologist and professor at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

His team found that people who ate more vegetables, fruit, fatty fish, nuts and fiber-rich grains generally had higher concentrations of bacteria that churn out short-chain fatty acids.

Short-chain fatty acids are produced when gut bacteria ferment non-digestible fiber, and they are anti-inflammatory, Weersma explained.

On the opposite end of the spectrum was the "fast-food cluster," where people had a high intake of meat, french fries, soda and processed snack foods.

They were in double-trouble, according to Weersma: Owing to a lack of dietary fiber, they had fewer bacteria that produce short-chain fatty acids. They also showed a greater abundance of pro-inflammatory gut microbes.

Many factors influence the balance of bacteria in any one person's gut microbiome, including genes, age, health conditions, medication use (particularly antibiotics) and stress, experts say.

"But I would say diet is the number one factor for adults," said Dr. Emeran Mayer, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine.

Mayer, who was not involved in the study, is author of the forthcoming book "The Gut-Immune Connection."

He said he generally recommends a largely plant-based diet, choosing the particular foods based on individuals' needs. Diet is the way to go, rather than taking probiotic supplements, Mayer said.

"There's no way to get around the biology. You can't eat a bad diet then take a probiotic," he said. "You have to make a fundamental shift in your diet and overall lifestyle."

Unfortunately, Mayer added, processed foods and other unhealthy choices are often cheaper, which makes it hard for lower-income people to eat healthfully.

"That's a real problem," he said.

The new findings published online recently in the journal Gut are based on more than 1,400 Dutch adults who answered questions on their diet habits and gave stool samples for a gut-microbe analysis. Some were generally healthy, while others had digestive disorders, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.

Overall, the study found consistent links between fish and food from plants and anti-inflammatory gut microbes, including in people with digestive conditions.

Dr. Andrew Chan is a gastroenterologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and professor at Harvard Medical School.

Chan said evidence is growing that the gut microbiome is one important link between diet and disease risks.

But it's likely that inflammation is only one part of the story, according to Chan.

Researchers are just beginning to understand the many roles of the gut microbiome, which some view as an organ unto itself, he noted. Much more work is needed to characterize how the microbiome might influence human health, and define what a "healthy" one is, Chan added.

For now, Weersma said these findings support current recommendations to eat more "whole" plant foods and fewer processed ones.

Chan agreed, but added that, ultimately, research into the gut microbiome could move experts away from one-size-fits-all advice. It's becoming possible to individualize diets based on how a person, and his or her gut microbiome, respond to food, he said.

We’ll need champions of science like Richard Dawkins to win the war on woke orthodoxy – Telegraph.co.uk

Richard Dawkins is surely just as known for his militant atheism as for his scientific genius. He is loved by some and loathed by others for his zealous crusades against religion and his savage mockery of the sacred. But this week, he was excommunicated by those you might least expect: his fellow atheists.

Dawkinss act of blasphemy was not against any religious doctrine. He did not voice scepticism of transubstantiation, but of transgenderism. He did not query whether bread and wine can become the body and blood of Christ, but whether a man can become a woman and vice versa.

And so the American Humanist Association has stripped Dawkins of its 1996 Humanist of the Yearaward. The AHA had initially honoured Dawkins for his extraordinary contributions to communicating science to the public. But 25 years later, the AHA has accused him of abusing "scientific discourse"to "demean marginalised groups".

The AHA alleged that Dawkins had "accumulated a history"of offensive statements, but singled out one tweet for condemnation: "In 2015, Rachel Dolezal, a white chapter president of NAACP, was vilified for identifying as black. Some men choose to identify as women, and some women choose to identify as men. You will be vilified if you deny that they literally are what they identify as. Discuss."

Of course, Dawkins said nothing demeaning or bigoted in that tweet. He merely raised a question about the inconsistency of modern identity politics.

Its a good question, in fact. Why is it that racial boundaries are today more likely to be viewed as fixed, but gender as fluid? After all, you dont have to go full Rachel Dolezal and try to live life as a black person to fall foul of the modern racial gatekeepers. In recent years, white people have been denounced for "cultural appropriation"over acts as trivial as practising yoga, braiding their hair in cornrows or writing fiction from the perspective of non-white characters.

At the same time, the belief that gender can simply be a matter of self-declaration has been placed beyond question. "Trans women are women"is now a foundational woke commandment. Clearly, it has even become an article of faith for self-professed "humanists".You might think that humanists and atheists would be the first to recognise how dogmatism hinders the search for truth. But there are greater forces at work, which Dawkins has himself picked up on.

At the end of last year, writing in the Spectator, Dawkins warned that scientific truth was coming increasingly under attack. Most insidiously, truth was being undermined in academia, in the very institutions set up to discover and uphold the truth. A school of thought that claims there is "no objective truth... no natural reality, only social constructs"has come to dominate, he said. This worldview also prioritises the so-called lived experience and identity of the speaker over empirical reality. Proven scientific facts, Dawkins complains, are too often dismissed as products of "patriarchal domination".

In his Spectator piece, Dawkins switches frequently between attacking the nascent woke ideology and the theologians he has been battling for decades. Although he does not make the link explicitly, the similarities between the two groups are too great to ignore.

In fact, Dawkins has personal experience of them converging. Last year, Trinity College Dublin rescinded his invitation to address its Historical Society. And in 2017, a radio station in California cancelled an event he was due to speak at. Both de-platformed Dawkins because the world-famous atheist had fiercely criticised Islam and not just Christianity. Criticism of Islam is prohibited by the woke not on theological grounds, but because critcising the beliefs of a "marginalised group"is considered bigoted (or Islamophobic,in this instance).

But no deity or dogma whether formed in the 7th century or the 21st should be so sacred as to be beyond question. As the woke orthodoxy becomes more powerful and resistant to challenge, well need far more heretics like Richard Dawkins.

The PSNI may not have probed to its "satisfaction" a line of inquiry in the Noah Donohoe inquest involving the controversial Canadian author Dr Jordan Peterson, a coroner has been told.

t emerged last month that officers working on the case had asked the Toronto Police Service to speak to the clinical psychologist at his home.

His multimillion-selling book 12 Rules For Life, a self-help manual described as a "guide through the disorderly universe", was discovered in 14-year-old Noahs backpack after he vanished.

His body was found in a storm drain in the north of the city after extensive searches last June.

PSNI detectives later discovered that on the day the teenager went missing, he received an Instagram message purporting to come from Dr Peterson.

At a pre-inquest review hearing at Belfasts Laganside Courthouse on Friday, coroner Joe McCrisken was asked to check the outcome of the engagement between the psychologist and police. There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by Dr Peterson.

A post-mortem examination found Noah had died by drowning. A previous hearing was told there was no evidence he had been attacked or that anyone else had been involved in his death.

Solicitor Niall Murphy, who is representing the Donohoe family and who previously said the teenager may have been assaulted before his death, confirmed that the police had reached out to Dr Peterson.

He said he understood the PSNI was "not content that engagement has been discharged to police satisfaction".

"That position may have changed, but again, if we could have confirmation as to the PSNIs satisfaction as to Jordan Petersons engagement, that would be expected," he added.

In response, the coroner said that he had been updated throughout the process and that inquiries were ongoing.

"The inquiries really relate to Instagram accounts, as opposed to Mr Peterson himself, (in relation) to the keeper, holder or the custodian of those Instagram accounts," he added.

A representative for the psychologist said last month there had been no contact between the author and Noah.

"There has been no communication between Noah and Jordan. There are many impersonator accounts. Its likely that the messages have come from elsewhere," a spokesman told the Sunday Independent.

The spokesman described Noahs death as a "terrible tragedy" and confirmed Dr Peterson had been in contact with the PSNI.

"We have fully co-operated with police," he added, offering his "sincere condolences" to Noahs mother, Fiona.

A further pre-inquest review is to take place next month.

The entire process was very depressing, painful and sometimes just completely soul-crushing," she said. "My social worker helped me through these difficult times and that is when I realized when I grew up, I wanted to be a social worker and help others just like those who helped me throughout my cancer and recovery experience.

A first-generation graduate, Lauro is well on her way to make those dreams come true. She is graduating this spring with a major in sociology and a minor in communication.

Besides having a passion for helping others, she is also an avid animal lover. She is a firm believer that having a therapy dog during her recovery from brain surgery truly saved her life.

I remember being stuck in the NICU and I couldnt even open my eyes or pick up my head. One day, they brought a therapy dog in and she climbed into my bed. As soon as I felt that warm, furry body, I knew exactly what it was and I really think that was the turning point in my life because after that I started to progress. That is a big reason why Im so passionate about animals.

Lauro says she has really enjoyed her time at ASU and appreciates all the help and guidance given to her. She plans to continue to get her masters degree through ASU in order to give back to the community, help others and strive to make a difference in the world. She shared a bit more of her experience by answering a few questions.

Question: Whats something you learned while at ASU in the classroom or otherwise that surprised you or changed your perspective?

Answer: I will say that during my time at ASU, I have learned a lot about myself and what I am capable of. It has always been my habit to underestimate and doubt myself. Throughout my many accomplishments at ASU, Ive realized that I am capable of so much more than I give myself credit for.

Q: Why did you choose ASU?

A: I chose ASU for its outstanding reputation and for all the great things I have heard through my friends, teachers and members of the family.

Q: As an ASU Online student, what ASU resources did you take advantage of and find most helpful on your journey to completing your degree?

A: I personally found having a success coach, along with an academic adviser, Lisa Barth, the most helpful. As an incoming online student I was worried that I wouldnt have a support system; I was nervous and fearful that I would be seen as just another number on the board. But I was pleasantly surprised to find how strong of a connection I was able to form with my success coach and how supportive and helpful my academic adviser was, together they both guided and steered me through my journey at ASU.

Q: Which professor taught you the most important lesson while at ASU?

A: Each one of my professors taught me unique and individual lessons that collectively all ring true and overall contribute into my work ethic, and that is to ask for help when needed, dont sit there in silence because fear or shame hinders you. You must be brave and bold enough to ask for yourself, because no one else will.

Q: Whats the best piece of advice youd give to those still in school?

A: There is a quote I refer to: Mistakes are proof that I am trying." No one is perfect; we all make mistakes, but that is part of the educational journey thats part of life.

Q: What was your favorite spot for power studying?

A: My bedroom or the office is where I spent my time studying; secluded and quiet places are what helps me the most when studying.

Q: If someone gave you $40 million to solve one problem on our planet, what would you tackle?

A: I would tackle an issue that I am very passionate about and that is animal abuse. I love animals with all my heart and the thought of an animal being mistreated or neglected is enough to make me sick to my stomach. If someone gave me $40 million to solve this problem, all the money would go towards protecting animals, both domestic and wild.

Once, Richard Thomass Jerry Springer the Opera, to which I contributed unpopular elements, held the TV hate record, with 62,000 complaints. But last week it was out-hated by the BBCs saturation coverage of Prince Philips death, which didnt even win four Olivier awards and had no singing coprophiles. BBC appeasements of unappeasable bad faith actors backfire reliably. More than 110,000 people, missing EastEnders under lockdown, protested the all-channel mourning. That said, the complaints of our day were proper complaints, etched on to stone tablets and delivered by pigeons, not these e-posts they have now which any idiot can send. Indeed, it turns out that 116 of the people complaining were complaining that it was too easy to complain.

It is sad that an old lady has lost her companion of 73 years, grieving alone. And the supposedly controversial comments made by Prince Philip, that critics foregrounded, arent that bad, given that he was born 100 years ago and left normal life for the ermine cocoon of royalty in 1947. No one would expect Rip Van Winkle to wake up and understand the complex terminology of 21st-century transgender rights. Sadly, the duke was too far ahead of the zeitgeist to be declared a warrior of anti-wokeness and get a lucrative book deal. But only just.

The Daily Mail columnist Sarah Vines agenda-setting tribute last week showed how the most tragic and personal event can be press-ganged into the Conservatives fabricated culture war. Though the duke was forbidden from expressing his own opinions in life, Vine has grafted hers on to him in death, riding his memory towards the hell of her own choosing, a Pale Horsewoman of the Apocalypse astride Bernie Cliftons ostrich.

For Vine, Prince Philips passing represented, more than the end of a single life; it represents the end of an era. Of a set of values and personal qualities that seem to have less and less and less place in the modern world; a kind of joyous, unapologetic masculinity that nowadays would and routinely is described by many as toxic. For Vine, the unwitting Duke of Edinburgh is a symbol of that most oppressed minority of all men! Unwilling to let the Jordan Peterson of carriage-driving rest unmolested, Vine goes on.

The thing that always struck me as so wonderful about Prince Philip was the fact that he was unequivocally and unapologetically a bloke. It wasnt only his tendency to put his foot in it. He lived simply and practically, never happier than when barbecuing sausages in the rain on a hillside in Scotland, and then putting those sausages into his mouth, the mouths of his family, or the mouths of delighted passersby. Or doing something complicated with a sausage. In other words, he knew what it meant to be a man. A real, grown-up man. And that, Im afraid, makes him a rare gem in this day and age, when women are encouraged to consider even the offer of a sausage as an act of patriarchal micro-aggression. But you cant fight nature. Or sausages. Men like him are as rare as genuine imported European sausages these days, because the modern world seems to despise them, and sausages, so much. How many young men growing up today, their minds addled with crazy brain powders, their Fairy Liquid hands as soft as their woke faces, even like sausages? Sausages that society no longer treats as treats but as toxins, that require the sternest eradication at the hands of the Commissars of Woke. But if toxic masculinity is loyalty, duty, courage, wisdom and sausages, so be it. Farewell then, Prince Philip, Prince among men, Duke of Sausage. Aw! Truly, this man was the Wokefinder General!

Vines fixation on the dukes admiration for sausage holds water. His pet name for the Queen was sausage. But Vines assertion that the duke channels the same masculine power that high-school incels claim they are denied is a stretch. If we look closely at the dukes politically incorrect gaffes they suggest instead both a self-aware literary meta-commentary on his own persona, and a tentative embracing of woke values. Taken in isolation, the dukes quip, If you stand here much longer youll go home with slitty eyes, to an English student in China in 1986, seems ill-judged. But two months later, to an English student in the Amazon basin, he said: If you stand here much longer you will come home with a working knowledge of the shamanic properties of the ayahuasca root. And a year earlier, to an English student in the Australian outback, he said: If you stand here much longer you will come home able to make complex topographical mental maps by singing tunes in which microtonal shifts in pitch represent the rising and falling of contours. And chuck spears! The duke displayed both a woke sensitivity to indigenous traditions, and a woke awareness of the obsolescence of his colonialist obligations.

The anti-woke infotainer Andrew Neil had hoped to use the duke as an avatar of anti-wokeness on his new anti-woke GB news show, Woke Watch. Neil denies knowing who I am online, as anti-woke Peter denied the woken Christ, but in reality I know the Weetabix-tonsured Wokefinder well. After the duke passed, Wheat-Head Zoomed me an Olivier award-winning theatre director, remember for artistic advice.

Leapy my old friend, Bisc-hair blabbed, the comedy agency Blue Book Artist Management, who are also working the anti-woke market, reckoned they could get me the duke to mock the woke weekly. I dont want to have to use Laurence Fox, although it would be cheaper. Do you think one could animate a hologram of Prince Philips head, like Patrick Moore on Gamesmaster? Yes Andy, I replied, then you could just make the Duke of Edinburgh say whatever you wanted him to say.

A new poll shows that actor Matthew McConaughey, who has mentioned a potential jump into politics, has far more support in his state to run for governor than the currently-elected Republican.

In a poll released Sunday by The Dallas Morning News and University of Texas at Tyler, 45% of registered Texan voters wouldnt mind the guy most well known for saying, alright, alright, alright as their next governor.

Republican Governor Greg Abbott, on the other hand, received only 33% support in the poll. Broken down by party lines, it becomes clearer that McConaugheys popularity on the screen also likely recent interviews touching on cultural subjects like political correctness outshines any experience Abbott or others bring to the job.

Among Republicans, 56% said they would support a McConaughey run to lead the Lone Star state, while just 30% threw their weight behind Abbott.

For Democrats, 66% support the Dazed and Confused star, while a mere 8% would want Abbott in for another round.

The poll is good news for McConaughey, who recently mentioned a potential future in politics as he appears to be slowing down in his acting career to pursue other opportunities he released a memoir last year.

Its a true consideration, he said of the potential run for governor, saying hes balancing what his leadership role is in the future to his home state.

The little that is known about McConaughey politically has mainly earned him ire from the left, as hes targeted both political parties and called out condescending Hollywood liberals in recent chats. His non-PC friendliness combined with his relationship to folks like Jordan Peterson (aka Red Skull, apparently) has already inspired waves of social justice warriors to warn the Austin resident to check his white privilege as they attempt to tie him to the most extreme version of conservatives painted by the mainstream media.

If McConaughey does choose to run and he continues his push as a self-described moderate, he will find quickly there is no grey area in modern American politics. Youre on one side or the other, and if you refuse to cancel someone like Peterson, your side has already been decided for you.

For now, however, McConaughey has the same wild card celebrity appeal that many public figures have when they jump into politics, Donald Trump included. Not knowing the mans specific positions, but admiring his more broad, straightforward approach to subjects is something voters are craving more and more as approval ratings for lawmakers in Congress continue to be abysmal.

Trump may have lost in 2020, but he also received more votes than any incumbent president ever. Like it or not, the mans brash style and penchant for theater mastered over decades in television and in front of cameras gave him an appeal against the same-old, same-old, well-groomed politicians were so used to seeing slide in and out of office.

Like Trump, McConaughey is a political grenade. Success or failure, hes different and sure to shake up a system that, quite frankly, needs some shaking up, especially when you consider the current president is staring down the barrel of 80 and already served as vice president in the very administration that arguably created the void Trump capitalized on to win the presidency in 2016.

McConaughey is not the only celebrity who has mentioned politics as a serious consideration in the post-Trump era. Former Trump supporter Caitlyn Jenner is reportedly looking at challenging Governor Gavin Newsom in California, and others have mentioned interests in representing their home states, like the Trump-supporting Kid Rock (Michigan).

It may sound crazy to hand the keys of the castle to a bunch of reality television stars and entertainers, but this is how out of touch politicians have become. People identify more with a frustrated celebrity bucking woke trends than anyone who can bring vague experience to the job.

One can argue this is a bad thing and just further chaos, but only a few months of the Biden administration has already shown us the reliability career politicians have. The current president has spent his first weeks racking up massive bills, completely fumbling on the immigration crisis at the border, and he even pushed the deadline for US troops to leave Afghanistan (something that likely is only even being considered by this administration because Trump pushed them into a corner with his peace deal).

The role of politician is not some sacred role to be worshipped, but thats the place weve reached with many modern representatives, who act as celebrities in their own right, cashing big government checks, spending half their time on cable news, and promising the same things over and over, and not delivering.

Its this disappointment that led to Trump, and its this disappointment that will likely lead to a Gov. McConaughey, if we ever see the day he decides to run. That disappointment, however, is not a bad thing. Either PC-hating figures like McConaughey can bring some positive changes to politics, or they can at least remind those sitting comfortably in their offices to not get too comfortable because their jobs can be done by anybody, even the ex-star of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.
