Woman wants to reconcile with former Ascension sheriff’s detective accused in domestic incident – The Advocate
Posted: April 15, 2021 at 6:55 am
GONZALES The ex-girlfriend of a former Ascension Parish sheriff's detective accused of stalking and committing battery against her testified Monday that she and the onetime deputy were trying to reconcile and she wanted a protective order against him removed.
The woman asked Judge Jason Verdigets to lift the order against Timothy G. May so she and May could meet personally and try to restore their relationship without fear of violating his bail conditions.
Among their limitations, the order bars him from being within 100 feet of his ex.
Verdigets, of the 23rd Judicial District, said later that he was likely to grant the request but could not guarantee such an order without first seeing a formal motion and hearing any possible objections from prosecutors.
Verdigets made the announcement after a private sidebar with May's attorney, Hallye Braud, and Assistant District Attorney Leila Braswell to learn more, he said, about the order against May following the woman's testimony.
Braswell did not voice any immediate objections in court. A spokesman for Ascension District Attorney Ricky Babin didn't immediately return a call for comment late Monday morning.
The Advocate is not identifying the woman, who was named in open court, as an alleged victim of domestic violence.
GONZALES The Ascension Parish sheriff fired one of his detectives after the officer's arrest over a domestic dispute with a former girlfriend.
May, 44, of Prairieville, was arrested after an alleged domestic dispute with the woman on Jan. 5 and was fired, Sheriff Bobby Webre has said.
May had been with the Sheriff's Office for 21 years. In his last job before being terminated, May investigated property crimes.
Twice daily we'll send you the day's biggest headlines. Sign up today.
At the time of his arrest, deputies said that their investigation following that incident turned up that May and the woman had several previous domestic disputes that had not been reported.
Deputies said at the time that the relationship had ended in October.
May has since been charged by prosecutors on a felony count of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and on misdemeanor counts of battery on a dating partner and stalking.
He pleaded not guilty to those charges on Monday at the Parish Courthouse in Gonzales a short while before the woman testified before Verdigets.
Under questioning Monday, the woman told Verdigets and prosecutors that she was not afraid of May anddid not fear for her safety.
Earlier, the woman also said that she was not in a relationship with May currently but wanted to reconcile with him.
May has been out on $25,000 bail since Jan. 6, online jail records say.
In a later interview, Braud said that prosecutors' offices in other parishes often agree to drop domestic charges against a person who has no prior criminal history, if the victim requests it.
Braud said her client has none but prosecutors in Ascension hadn't seemed willing so far to drop the counts.

Google Health and Ascension Are Piloting A Cross-Platform EHR Search Tool That Helps Physicians Locate and View Patient Data, Including Clinical…

Care Studio is designed to give physicians a single, centralized view of patients records that are spread among multiple disparate databases within a healthcare system
Lack of interoperability between electronic health records (EHRs) has been a thorn in the side of healthcare providersincluding clinical laboratorians and pathologistswho have to search multiple healthcare organizations databases to pull together medical records on individual patients. Google Health claims it may have the answer to the longstanding issue of siloed patient records.
Google Health and St. Louis-based Ascension, one of the largest healthcare systems in the US, have announced the clinical pilot of their new Care Studio platform. The software tool, according to the Care Studio website, leverages Googles expertise in organizing information to help clinicians find health record information faster.
The tools Clinical Search feature, Google Health continues, enables nurses and doctors to simply type what theyre looking for and quickly find the specific information requestedwhich might otherwise require significant time and effort to uncover.
Essentially, Care Studio complements existing EHR systems and enables healthcare providers to quickly search and organize previously siloed patient healthcare data stored on multiple EHRs within a health system. If successful, such a tool would clearly help streamline physicians workflows and shave hours off their daily patient research.
According to Google Health, Care Studio is a cross-platform EHR tool that gives clinicians a single, centralized view that brings forward a patients hospital visits, outpatient events, laboratory tests, medications and treatments, and progress notes.
Gathered data then can be visualized in tables, graphs, and other formats.
According to Medical Device Network, Google and Ascension originally introduced Care Studio to a small number of providers at Ascensions Nashville and Jacksonville, Fla., locations. They are now expanding the pilot to more nurses and physicians working in clinical settings.
Delivering Effective and Efficient Care
In Association of Electronic Heath Record Design and Use Factors with Clinician Stress and Burnout, published in JAMA Network Open, 73.1% of clinicians surveyed reported that inaccessibility of information from multiple institutions was identified as a major pain point in using EHRs and a factor associated with clinician stress and burnout.
In a blog post, Eduardo Conrado, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Innovation at Ascension, wrote, In current EHR systems, clinical information too often is buried in siloed records scattered across hospitals, clinics, urgent care centers, pharmacies, physician offices, labs, and other sites of care, making it challenging for physicians and caregivers to efficiently deliver coordinated and precise care.
When information is finally retrieved from these disparate EHR systems, he added, it is usually poorly organized and fragmented. Most clinicians work in an environment where data is incomplete, inaccessible, and delivered in disjointed bursts of information without context.
COVID-19 Accelerates Need for Improvements in Data Access
Conrado notes that the ability for clinicians to quickly retrieve and organize a patients complete clinical history is the essence of delivering effective and efficient care. He wrote that the once-in-a-generation COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the need for improvements in public health infrastructure, health technology services, and care delivery models and reinforced the significant impact that complex and often confusing EHR systems, and the fragmentation of patient health data, have on delivering effective care.
While the collaboration between Ascension and Google began in 2018, Conrado said remarkable progress was made on Care Studio this past year.
Conrado did not state how long the clinical pilot of Care Studio would last but emphasized that the technology will be enhanced with additional features and improvements based on feedback from pilot clinicians. Ultimately, the clinical search tool will be made available to all caregivers across Ascensions 2,600 sites of care, including 145 hospitals and more than 40 senior living facilities in 19 states and the District of Columbia.
In his blog post, Conrado reiterated that Care Studio complies with all HIPAA regulations as well as the Business Associate Agreement (BAA) that governs Protected Health Information.
Clinical laboratories should welcome this development. Any software tool or information technology that allows clinical laboratory test data to move across different EHRs will help interoperability.

Ascension Episcopal hands Loreauville first district loss of season – The Daily Iberian
Posted: at 6:55 am
YOUNGSVILLE Ascension Episcopal handed visiting Loreauville its first District 7-2A loss Thursday by a 12-2 margin in five innings.
LHS starting pitcher Garret Blanchard allowed eight runs (four unearned) on two hits in 1 1/3 innings. The sophomore threw 49 pitches with four walks.
It was out of character for Garret to struggle with his control, LHS coach Rob Segura said. An exception. Hell bounce back. Im not worried about it.
Hes going to be upset, but he should be upset a little bit. Hell move on. Hes going to be fine. He has had excellent control most of the time.
Ascension right-hander Preston Ocmand threw less than 60 pitches, yielding only three hits and two unearned runs with three strikeouts and no walks.
We obviously got beat in every phase of the game, Segura said. Thats my fault. I didnt prepare them well enough.
We just have to find a way to get better. We have to show a little fight and compete a little better.
Ascension (21-3, 5-0) shortstop Austin Mills went 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI, three stolen bases and three runs scored. The Tigers intentionally walked the sophomore on his fourth at-bat.
Ascension is a very good ball club, Segura said. Theyre probably the best all-around baseball team weve seen this year. Weve seen some teams.
The Tigers (13-7, 3-1) have faced Class 4A No. 4 North Vermilion (20-4), 4A No. 5 South Terrebonne, 4A No. 10 Breaux Bridge and 4A No. 13 Assumption.
They play the game the right way, Segura said of the Blue Gators. They do the little things. When their hitters have two strikes, it doesnt affect them. They were able to put the barrel on some balls with two strikes in the count.
Cameron Trahan, Luke Dowling and Devin Verret each had a hit for LHS. Trahan and Dowling both scored a run, and Hunter Freyou and Dowling each had an RBI.
The Tigers will be in action again today at Houma Christian (6-9, 1-2), which has been playing better than its record would indicate. The Warriors lost 4-3 to Ascension and 4-2 to Catholic High School.
Houma Christian has a good arm for sure, Segura said of their ace pitcher. I expect them to come out and compete. I dont know who Im going to throw tomorrow. Its possible that Riley (Marcotte) will be available. He last threw Monday at Highland Baptist.

Seniors lead the way for Spartan baseball – The Advocate
Posted: at 6:55 am
Coaching is not easy, but when you can coach a mature group with the same set of goals, it makes it easy.
Coaching this team is easy due to the senior leadership we have; they lead us on and off the field, said East Ascension High baseball coach Kade Keowen.
The East Ascension Spartans baseball team is full of senior leaders who have played for several years at the varsity level. Leading the group is four-year starter Kael Babin (outfielder) who is hitting .325 and has 18 stolen bases this season. Senior catcher Jacob Falgoust leads the team with a .365 average along with two home runs, 33 runs batted in and eight doubles. Senior first baseman Brock Hebert is hitting nearly 300 and has 15 runs batted in. Junior OF Dominick Regira hits at a .333 clip and leads the way with three home runs.
The Spartans pitching staff is led by senior Tanner Hebert, a four-year letterman, with a 5-2 record, 3.02 ERA and 44 strikeouts recorded. Regira has a 4-2 record with a 3.60 ERA and 24 strikeouts. Brock Hebert has the best ERA at 1.43 and is 1-1 on the season.
The Spartans have played to their strengths this season with eight seniors leading the way; they started with Keowen when he became the head coach four years ago.
Everything runs through the seniors. They are sometimes vocal and sometimes just lead by example. I am so proud of them as the lead this program, Keowen said.
Making the routine plays is something the coaches want to improve on.
We need to just make the routine plays, dont make the hero plays, this will allow our pitchers to stay away from big innings and minimize the damage, said Keowen.
Twice daily we'll send you the day's biggest headlines. Sign up today.
The Spartans have hit well as a team and the coaches like the daily approach.
Putting the ball in play with two strikes and force the defense to make plays, this will extend innings for us and run up opposing pitchers counts said Keowen.
The Spartans play in a tough district with Catholic High and their rivals.
I believe this will be a tight district race. We have split with Catholic, everyone knows that St. Amant has a well-coached and talented team, plus Dutchtown as a rival, all of the teams are well coached, and they play hard, Keowen said.
The 5A playoffs look strong from top to bottom and just making the top 16 will guarantee a home playoff game in the first round.
We are currently sitting as the No. 20 seed. We will travel anywhere, we dont care, but everyone hopes to get the 16 seed or better to get a home game; we will be ready no matter where we fall, Keowen said.
As the season winds down and heads to the playoffs, the Spartans will certainly be a team to watch in 5A. East Ascension opened district play with two losses to Dutchtown High.
This is my fourth year as their head coach and having this senior group makes it extremely fun, our philosophy is to start fast, score early and most of all, just play hard and have fun, Keowen said.

Ascension Episcopal flexes again with dominating win over Loreauville – The Advocate
Posted: at 6:55 am
YOUNGSVILLE Ascension Episcopal coach Lonny Landry gave his team a hefty compliment after the Blue Gators' 12-2 win over Loreauville in five innings on Thursday.
"I shared with the kids that this is the best baseball game that I've seen played at Ascension in 12 years from a fundamental standpoint," Landry said.
Ascension Episcopal (21-3, 5-0 in District 7-2A) scored five runs in the first inning and three more in the second while pitcher Preston Ocmand threw a complete game.
"We really take pride in getting guys in to score when they're on base," Landry said. "And playing unselfish baseball.
"I thought we were very unselfish today. We had some good at-bats and some good defense. Preston threw 54 pitches so kudos to him."
Ocmand (6-0, 1.10 ERA) allowed three hits and no earned runs with three strikeouts and no walks.
"Preston pitched wisely," Landry said. "Anytime you can keep that pitch count from going up, it's a good thing."
The Blue Gators have several pitchers who could be considered aces, including junior Logan Overton and senior Cole Simon.
"Logan threw Monday night (in a 5-2 win over Newman) with Cole relieving," Landry said. "We were giving Cole another day of rest."
In the first inning, the Blue Gators scored five runs against Loreauville starting pitcher Garret Blanchard, who walked four and threw 49 pitches in 1.1 innings.
"It was out of character for Garret to struggle with his control," Loreauville coach Rob Segura said. "An exception. He'll bounce back. I'm not worried about it.
"He's going to be upset, but he should be upset a little bit. He'll move on. He's going to be fine. He has had excellent control most of the time."
AES shortstop Austin Mills went 3 for 3 with two doubles, an RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases. The sophomore drew an intentional walk in his fourth at-bat.
"Austin is clicking," Landry said. 'He's been swinging it really well. His timing has been really good. He's been doing a good job of giving us a chance.
"We've been moving him around in the order. He's comfortable with hitting with two strikes in the count."
Mills has stolen 13 bases in 13 attempts for Ascension Episcopal, which is ranked fourth in the LHSAA's Division IIIunofficial power rankings behind Notre Dame (19-4), Newman (19-6) and Lafayette Christian (22-3).
"I'm confident that I'll get a good jump," Mill said. "As long as I get a good jump, I feel like my speed will get me there."
Ocmand and Wyatt Fox were both 1 for 2 with two RBIs. Barrett Hebert and Texas A&M commitment Blaise Blancher each scored two runs, and catcher Andrew Lee went 2 for 3 for AES.
"Every player did their job and had quality at-bats," Mills said. "It was just an all-round team effort. We want to have quality at-bats like we had tonight.
"We know we can pitch and play defense, so as long as we have quality at-bats and do good offensively, it's going to be hard to stop us."
AES has one district game remaining vs. West St. Mary (2-9, 0-3) with several playoff tune-ups on tap.
"We have some good big games coming up with North Vermilion, Iowa, Breaux Bridge, Dunham, Menard and Loreauville again," Landry said. "We play each team in district once. The upcoming Loreauville game will be nondistrict.
"We preach a lot to keep climbing, and I think we're doing a good job of that right now. We're doing a good job of climbing the ladder."
Loreauville (13-7, 3-1) got hits from Cameron Trahan, Luke Dowling and Devin Verret.
Trahan and Dowling both scored a run, and Hunter Freyou and Dowling each had an RBI.
"Ascension is a very good ballclub," Segura said. "They're probably the best all-around baseball team we've seen this year."

A pair of shoes, a Tanger Outlets bathroom video case and how police connected the dots – The Advocate
Posted: at 6:55 am
GONZALESWhen former Assumption Chamber of Commerce official Seth G. Breaux was arrested last year and accused of recording a man in a St. Gabriel bathroom, a man who thought he had been recorded in a different incident saw a news report about it on TV.
"Hey, I think that's the same guy," the man said, according to recent testimony from Gonzales Police Detective James Poe.
The man had filed a complaint in January 2020 claiming someone had filmed him while he was on the toilet at the Tanger Outlets Mall in Gonzales. But he had only seen the alleged voyeur's shoes and the investigation had stalled as detectives awaited leads that could put a face to those shoes.
But then he saw a television report months later about Breaux's arrest in neighboring Iberville Parish. He called Gonzales city police, who conducted an investigation which relied heavily on cellphone data and the shoes Breaux allegedly wore that led to additional charges being filed.
Poe offered his testimony this week at the Parish Courthouse in Gonzales as an Ascension judge agreed to uphold the police arrest warrant for Breaux on a video voyeurism count.
Butthe hearing also revealed some weaknesses in the case. Ascension prosecutors will face a far tougher evidentiary standard at trial.
Breaux was arrested in August on the Gonzales voyeurism count and has since pleaded not guilty.
A onetime Assumption Parish political candidate and local business leader has been arrested for a second time in three months on video voyeuri
In the St. Gabriel incident, Breaux had been accused of video-recording a man using the bathroom atFred's Travel Center truck stop casinoon La. 30 on April 27, 2020.
In January, he pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of criminal mischief and received a suspended jail sentence with probation, fines and court costs.
Breaux, 26, of Pierre Part, was the chairman of the Assumption Chamber of Commerce at the time of his first arrest on May 4, 2020, in St. Gabriel. He was also a candidate for clerk of court in 2019.
After the Ascension victim's tip about the truck stop incidentjust a few miles down La. 30 from the Gonzales mall, Poe testified on Tuesday that detectives dug deeper into the St. Gabriel case.
Twice daily we'll send you the day's biggest headlines. Sign up today.
An analysis of cellphone and cell tower records showed Breaux's cellphone had pinged off towers in the immediate vicinity of the Tanger Outlets mall around the time that the man alleged the voyeurism incident occurred in January 2020, Poe said.
John Wilbert III, Breaux's defense attorney, sought to point out the possibility of the inexactness of the analysis, asking Poe to describe the location and range of the towers. He argued Breaux could have been miles away at the time his phone pinged on towers around the mall.
Poe said the analysis, which relied on a variety of cell data, was conducted by the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office and peer-reviewed for its conclusions.
But Poe also acknowledged that the victim in Gonzales never saw the man whom he caught filming him with a cellphone. The voyeur had fled the bathroom after the victim had banged on a stall wall and caused the phone to hit the ground.
The victim had only gotten a good look at the alleged voyeur's shoes through the gaps in the closed bathroom stall door, Poe said. The man was unable to dress quickly enough and leave the bathroom to spot the voyeur at the open-air mall full of people, Poe said.
But when detectives first talked with Breaux, Poe said, he noticed the similarity of the shoes that Breaux was wearing then to the description that the victim had given of the shoes worn by the alleged voyeur.
Poe testified that detectives created a photographic lineup of six sample shoe images that were the same as and similar to what Breaux had worn when he was with Gonzales detectives. The man was unable to identify the correct shoe, however.
"Yes, the victim chose the wrong pair of shoes," Poe responded to a question from Judge Cody Martin.
In the end, though, Martin, of the 23rd Judicial District Court, ruled Gonzales detectives had probable cause to make the arrest.
In the St. Gabriel case, that victim also only saw Breaux's shoes, but detectives were able to match video surveillance of Breaux to those shoes, police have said.
Breaux is next expected to appear in Ascension court June 14.

John Touchet, North Vermilion cool off Ascension Episcopal for impressive home win – The Advocate
Posted: at 6:55 am
LEROY John Touchet allowed only three hits over 6 innings to pace North Vermilion to a 6-1 win over visiting Ascension Episcopal in a nondistrict baseball matchup Saturday.
"John came out and had a great game," North Vermilion coach Jeremy Trahan said. "It was probably the best we've seen him all year.
"He started off a little slow early and walked the first two guys, but then he settled right in and really had some good stuff."
In the top of the first, after Touchet walked Blaise Blancher and Austin Mills, the junior left-hander struck out the next five Blue Gators.
"I was impressed," Trahan said. "John stays pretty focused. People tend to have trouble hitting him. I thought he located his pitches well.
"His change-up was working pretty good at times. He threw some pretty good off-speed pitches in key counts. He just pounded the zone after the first inning, which really helped us."
Touchet (7-0) held the Blue Gators hitless until Barrett Hebert's infield single to lead off the fourth inning.
"I was taking it one pitch at a time, letting my defense work, and success came," said Touchet, who recorded nine strikeouts. "I've struggled in the past at the beginning of some games, but after I settle in, I feel pretty good."
The Patriots (23-4), who scored three runs in the first, were led at the plate by Camden Breaux (1-3, two runs scored), Tyson LeBlanc (two RBIs), Brandt Fontenot (1-3, RBI), Jordan Blanchard (1-3, RBI) and John Carter (1-2, double, two runs scored).
LeBlanc had two sacrifice flies and Touchet added another.
"One-through-nine usually swing the bats well for us," Trahan said. "We have 11-to-12 guys who we mix into the lineup at any time. Our nine-hole guy, John Carter, is one of our seniors. He's a great leader. He probably hasn't gotten but 20 at-bats during the season, but he's always a team-first guy.
"He's one of our pitchers. His arm's been bothering him. Today, we gave him a start, and he made the most of his opportunities. He had two runs at the bottom of the lineup for us. That's what happens when you do things the right way. When you're more concerned about your team having success than you, good things happen when you do things that way."
The Patriots face Eunice in District 4-4A games Tuesday and Thursday before closing the regular season with several playoff tune-up games.
"We have to beat Eunice twice to be co-district champs with Rayne, who beat us a few weeks ago," Trahan said. "We beat Rayne the second time. We go to Eunice Tuesday and will try to take business there. We're playing pretty good baseball right now.
"I thought we played a complete game today. We did a very good job of getting runs in key situations. We didn't blow any innings open, but we scratched some runs against a good team, which really helped us. I'm definitely pleased with this win."
Trahan's team, which came into Saturday's game ranked fourth in 4A, can make a move in the LHSAA power ratings.
"It's a good power-point win, because Ascension has 22 wins," he said. "We'll get over 40 points for this win."
