FDA Clears Nines Lung Nodule Measurement Tool Built with AI – Imaging Technology News
Posted: March 31, 2021 at 5:41 am
March 30, 2021Nines announced the 510(k) FDA clearance for NinesMeasure, an innovative lung nodule measurement tool built with artificial intelligence (AI) that can accelerate diagnoses of certain respiratory diseases.
"To our knowledge, NinesMeasure is the only lung nodule measurement tool cleared by the FDA that was developed by a combined team of radiologists and engineers collaborating every day," saidMichael Kelleher, M.D., president of Nines Radiology. "This advanced tool can significantly reduce the amount of time our radiologists spend measuring pulmonary nodules, improving time to diagnosis for patients without rushing our radiologists."
The FDA clearance for NinesMeasure is thesecond FDA clearance in 10 monthsfor the Silicon Valley based teleradiology practice, demonstrating the company's commitment to transforming the use of technology in radiology. Last April, Nines also received FDA clearance for artificial intelligence technology that triages mass effect conditions and intracranial hemorrhages.
Lung nodule measurement can be tedious and time consuming as each nodule has to be measured carefully to determine changes in size over time. NinesMeasure enables radiologists to quickly measure the long and short axes of selected nodules with a high level of accuracy. It can also help address inter-study consistency spanning a patient's full treatment program.
In addition to the FDA clearance for its lung nodule measurement tool, Nines also announced that its recent focus on improving clinical workflow has demonstrated a40% gain in efficiencyover three months. Nines radiologists are seeing reduced interruptions from non-diagnostic workflow automation, from one-click communications with Emergency Room physicians to an "always-ready" worklist of studies. Imaging centers and hospitals that rely on Nines can see more reliable turnaround times because radiologists are not distracted by administrative tasks and other non-diagnostic functions, which slow time to diagnosis for patients.
The radiologist-centric advances and the FDA clearances are the result of a unique innovation model and culture that the practice embodies. At Nines, radiologists are paired with in-house engineers to collaborate and develop new approaches and advanced techniques never seen in a radiology practice. For example, while most facilities typically see a tech update once a year, workflow feature enhancements occur about every three days at Nines, saving radiologists valuable time.
"In general, radiology is tech-forward in its use of digital imaging," saidDavid Stavens, Ph.D., co-founder and CEO of Nines. "But innovation can make it better. Nines has been leading the way by pairing two seemingly disparate groups skilled radiologists and brilliant engineers to transform the practice of radiology to be more accessible and more efficient, delivering faster results for quality patient care. That is worth innovating."
Stavens is an entrepreneur and scientist who has pioneered several technologies and co-founded companies in Silicon Valley. He has published in the fields of machine learning, artificial intelligence and robotics. Stavens co-founded Nines in 2017 withAlexander Kagen, M.D., who is Nines' chief medical officer and serves as the site chair of Radiology at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside Hospitals inNew York City. Kagen is also associate professor of Radiology at the Icahn School of Medicine atMount Sinai.

‘Tina’: The Ultimate Thesis of Why She Deserves Rock Hall Immortality – wmgk.com
Posted: at 5:40 am
Its 10:15 PM on Saturday, March 27th. Ive just finished watchingTina, the HBO documentary about the incomparable Tina Turner. The two-hour doc was filled with stunning footage and stories from Turners remarkable career, but it was the films ending that is really staying with me.
Tinacomes to a close with Turner and her husband,Erwin Bach, traveling from their home in Switzerland to New York City in November 2019 for the Broadway opening ofTINA: The Tina Turner Musical. Over footage from the star-studded event, Bach says the following:
She said, Im going to America, and Im going to say goodbye to my American fans and wrap it up. And I think this documentary and the play, this is it. Its a closure. A closure.
Tina Turner doesnt have to perform a single note ever again. She doesnt owe any of us a thing more. But shes still owed one more thing in order for this closure to be complete with me and likely countless other fans the world over: She needs to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in the 2021 class.
While she was inducted into the Rock Hall in 1991 as part of Ike & Tina Turner, Tina the solo artist has been eligible for induction since 1999. It would have been a nice touch to see her inducted in her first year of eligibility: her final studio album, Twenty Four Seven, was released that year.(Although many regard 1984s Private Dancer as her debut solo album, she has been putting out solo albums since 1974s Tina Turns the Country On!) It also goes without saying that she was more successful and impactful as a solo artist than she was with Ike Turner.
Plenty has been written by myself and countless others about the Rock Halls lack of women inductees; women account for less thaneight percentof artist inductees. The fact that it took until 2019, when Stevie Nicks became the first double-inductee, is ridiculous. Over twenty men have been inducted twice; Eric Clapton has been inducted three times. While Nicks solo honor was more than deserved, she shouldnt have been the Rock Halls first woman double-inductee.
It should have been Tina. AndTina, the documentary, makes the case that Turners solo career is more than worthy of induction. From the cotton fields of Tennessee to selling out the biggest stadiums in the world, shes done it all while simultaneously overcoming at times horrific odds. She paved the way forBeyonc, Taylor and any other musician recognized by just one name to become superstars. They all owe a debt to Tina, someone who achieved that worldwide stardom in her mid-40s, which is a staggering feat that also doesnt get enough attention. Becoming a headliner as an up-and-coming artist is one thing, but to do so while battling ageism AND crossing over multiple musical genres is another.
The figures and the powers-that-be at the Rock Hall both past and present cant go back in time and induct Tina as a solo artist two decades ago, but they can right one major wrong by inducting her this year, which is also somehow the first time she has been nominated as a solo artist.
Rock Hall voters have about a month left to submit their ballots for the 2021 class. Every single voter would have to be a fool not to mark Tina as one of their five selections.
And if they are somehowstillon the fence, just watchTina.

Immortal Jellyfish, Radiated Tortoise, and More: 11 Ancient Animals Older Than Every Human on Earth – Nature World News
Posted: at 5:40 am
Nature is full of crazy creatures that defy all logic, and nothing is more astonishing than animals that can live to be older than humans. Some of the oldest animals in the world have lived since the time of Charles Darwin, and some survivors that may have been around during the time of the last mammoths.
It's important to study these rare creatures as they (longest-lived animals) can teach us a lot about the aging process. Sometimes estimates are exaggerated, but age testing in these animals is very complex and relatively accurate. These ancient animals are believed to be some of the world's oldest things and, as technologies improve, we get a better understanding of them.
(Photo : Getty Images)
In 2007, researchers examining a dead clam discovered that they may have accidentally killed one of the oldest creatures in the world. The Ming clam, which was later named, is one of 200 clams collected from a glacial shelf in Iceland. It died after freezing and was taken to a research laboratory.
Age: 405 Years
This little jellyfish is no bigger than your pink claw, but hidden inside that little body is the key to immortality. When faced with a threat, a long-immortal jellyfish can return to its larval stage and start life again.
This process, called transdifferentiation, can be triggered by starvation, injury, and other pre-existing threats. This process could theoretically allow these jellies to live forever, although verifying the age of any individual would be difficult.
Age: Infinity Years
Estimates for the age of this animal are surprising but, if true, it is probably the oldest living organism on the planet. Some scientists believe that giant Arctic sponges could live for thousands of years.
These sponges, which belong to the Hexactinellida group, may owe their length to their slow growth rate and the frigid waters of the deep ocean. Some estimates place the age of individuals as high as 23,000 years old, but most agree that the number is probably inaccurate.
Age: 15,000 Years

These amazing living sharks are native to the icy waters of the Arctic, and a female specimen is estimated at nearly 400. Biologists have used carbon dating in proteins found in the lenses of shark eyes when the animal is old. Their discovery completely changed the view of scientists on this animal.
Age: 392 Years
Reptiles can only be seen in New Zealand, where one member of the species has managed to breed 11 healthy babies at the impressive age of 111. Some estimates claim that the tuataras can live upto 250, an impressive number for a small animal.
Age: 250 Years
The oldest mammal in the world, bowhead whales, can live to be over 200 years old. Researchers came up with this after finding traditional stone harpists made by native Alaskans stuck to the skins of living whales. The researchers ran tests on tissue samples from multiple bowheads and found four individuals over 100 years old.
Age: 211 Years
A 2003 study on the lifespan of red sea urchins concluded that these amazing invertebrates can live more than 200 years without any significant signs of aging. Scientists believe that a 100-year-old female can reproduce as easily as an urchin 1/10 of that age. Two different dating methods work to determine their age, and both offer the same conclusion.

Tu'i Malila lived to be one of the oldest recorded turtles of all time, having spent most of his life at the Royal Palace of Tonga. Although the turtle died in 1965 at the estimated age of 188, Tu'i Malila remains a legend to this day.

Three top contenders in the fray for Indian Derby – The Hindu
Posted: at 5:40 am
The 2021 Indian Derby will be the 79th running of the prestigious event on the Indian racing calendar and the sixth consecutive year Kingfisher Ultra will be associated with the RWITC. However, this year it will be a closed-door affair, with only a limited number of people allowed at the Mahalaxmi racecourse.
Seventeen races have been framed for the Derby weekend (March 27 and 28) with the total prize money for Indian Derby being 1.52 crore and the winners purse worth 91.5 lakh.
According to the present form and record among the 13 contestants vying for premier honours, the three contenders to watch out are Lagarde, Immortality and Forest Flame.
Bengaluru-based trainer Suleiman Attaollahi, who has not yet tasted the success of winning this blue riband event, has two prime contenders in Lagarde and Forest Flame.
Top colt Lagarde stands tall with five wins out of six races in his career, including the Bangalore Derby & 2000 Guineas, Indian 2000 Guineas, and the Ruia Cup over 2000m here.
Attaollahis queen filly Forest Flame, who has won 5 out of her 7 starts, was beaten by stablemate Lagarde in the Bangalore Derby and was pipped at the post by Immortality in the Indian Oaks. She maintains her form, and having gone over the 2,400m trip twice, is capable of avenging the above defeats.
Trainer Pesi Shroffs champion filly Immortality, who ran last in her debut as a two-year-old, has shown a vast improvement this year by winning a Class 4 race over a mile, the Golconda Oaks, and the Indian Oaks over 2,400m. She is in great heart as evidenced by her track performances and may add another feather to her hat.

Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR Can Show Why He’d Be The Perfect MCU Wolverine – Screen Rant
Posted: at 5:40 am
Keanu Reeves always wanted to play Wolverine on screen, and now with Netflix's BRZRKR film on the way, fans can see what he would have been like.
Keanu Reeves BRZRKR comic is being adapted as both a live-action film and anime series at Netflix, providing a fun look at what the John Wick star could look like as the MCUs Wolverine. In the wake of Hugh Jackmans retirement from the iconic role and Disneys acquisition of Fox, many theories have circulated as to how mutants will be introduced to the MCU, and who could play the new versions of the X-Men. Though Keanu Reeves is likely too old at this point to be in the running for the part of Wolverine, BRZRKR will show what his version of the character may have been like.
BRZRKR follows the story of B, an immortal warrior, half-god and half-man, cursed to wander the Earth for eternity in a chain of violent battles. The character lives for 80,000 years, eventually becoming a secret weapon of the U.S. government. Reeves created the character of B and the story of BRZRKR with writer Matt Kindt, both of which will be fleshed out in the upcoming adaptations from Netflix.
Related:Everything We Know About Keanu Reeves' Netflix Movie & Show BRZRKR
In past interviews, Reeves has said how badly he wanted to play Wolverine in the X-Menfilms.Though hes a longshot to play the character at this point in time, he can show how perfect he would have been in the role through his performance in BRZRKR. Hes starred in numerous action films since The Matrix and has experienced something of a renaissance in the genre in the wake of John Wick, but no character Keanu has played before comes as close to Wolverine as B. From his curse-like immortality to his penchant for violence and his use as a weapon by covert government programs, B is essentially an elseworlds version of X-Mens Logan.
Of course, there are plenty of reasons why Reeves is better suited to an independent property like BRZRKR than actually being part of the MCU. The hyperviolent style of BRZRKR similar to that which helped make Logan so distinct in the superhero genre wouldnt fly as part of Marvels family-friendly brand. Plus, Reeves particular style of action hero is a bit too grizzled for the tone of the MCU, even without the extra blood and gore.
Still, in another world, Reeves could be a perfect Wolverine. While fans will likely never see that hypothetical version of the character, they can get a glimpse at what it would be like when Netflixs BRZRKR film releases. Marvel still hasnt announced plans to bring the X-Men into the MCU, so BRZRKR may actually be the closest thing to a new Wolverine movie fans can expect for some time.

Tucker Carlson: Unsafe cities, divisive mainstream media the real legacy of George Floyd’s death – Home – WSFX
Posted: at 5:37 am
The George Floyd trial has finally started in Minneapolis as if we needed any more drama in this country and the other channels are covering it like a championship game, which makes sense. If your job is to make Americans hate each other, if your job is to divide the country (and thats how they see their job), the opportunity to talk about George Floyd all day islike your Super Bowl.
On Monday morning, CNN spent hours airing footage of prosecutors questioning one of the emergency dispatchers who happened to be on duty the day that George Floyd died. It wasnt very interesting and had no inherent news value. Is that your voice on the 911 recording? the prosecutor asked at one point. Yes, the dispatcher replied, and so it went interminably. Thensuddenly, at one point, the feedstopped without warning. Apparently there were technical difficulties. It wasnt a conspiracy, it was just live TV programing.
But CNNs control room cut to a legal analyst who assured viewers the pause was only temporary. This isnt Law &Order,' the analyst explained. It wont all be wrapped up in fifty-five minutes. This could go on a while. In other words, stay in your seats. Dont turn away. The trial may be boring, but its important.
Its not about George Floyd, obviously; it never was. No one on CNN cared about George Floyd while he was alive. He was unemployed and on drugs. Like a lot of people in this country, they paid him no attention. For that matter, no one on CNN actually cares about George Floyd now. What they care about is you and your role in the systemic racism that supposedly killed George Floyd.
If the Floyd trial ends in acquittal, there could be riots. We accept that as a fact of life in this country. No civilized country should, but suddenly we do. If there are riots, innocent people may die, as they did in large numbers this summer. CNN will downplay those deaths or justify them as they did this summer andas they have so many times before when those deaths are politically convenient. The point isnt to save people from dying. The point is to punish you and to change America. So from that perspective, its worth it.
Thats why theyre replaying that video of George Floyd dying in the sidewalk, to remind you of your culpability in his death. Thats why, even as they rub the countrys face in the death of George Floyd, there are many other tragic deaths some on video they ignore completely.
BOTCHED CARJACKING VICTIM FLUNG TO HIS DEATH FROM CARE; TEENS CHARGED WITH MURDER: POLICE
Heres one:A 66-year-old Pakistani immigrant called Mohammad Anwar died in Washington recently. As in George Floyds case, Anwarsdeath was on video. Unlike George Floyd, Mohammad Anwar was not a violent career criminal with a drug habit. He worked at the very bottom of the so-called gig economy and made his living driving for Uber Eats. Its a tough gig. On Tuesday, he was driving near Nationals Park in southeast Washington when two girls assaulted him with a Taser. The girls were 13 and 15 years old. Mohammad Anwar resisted. It was his car,the key to his living, and he didnt want to lose it.Abystander recorded what happened next.
Anwars last words were, This is my car, and it was.Bystanders watchedall of this happen, but no one stepped forward to help Mohammad Anwar. The two girls hit the gas, flipping the carover. Anwarflew out of the vehicle andlanded face down on the sidewalk, dead. The girls who killed him didnt seem bothered by this.
My phone is in there! My phone! one of them screamed. She cared more about her phone than the life of the man she just killed. This raises all kinds of questions, not only about them, but about us. What kind of society produced children like this? Who raised them? What does it say about our country that no one jumped in to help this poor man before he was killed?
Those are real questions, but CNN wasnt interested in asking any of them. In fact, the network refused even to call it a killing, since didnt help their politics. So in their account, the girls assaulted an Uber driver with a Taser while carjacking him, which led to an accident in which he was fatally injured.
CNN SLAMMED FOR QUESTIONABLE TWEET THAT REFERS TO MURDER AS ACCIDENT
Which led to an accident. It wasnt a killing. It just kind of happened. It was an act of God, like a tsunami or a hailstorm. Unfortunately, he died. In fact, as the mayor of Washington, D.C., explained the next day, it may have been Mohammad Anwars fault. Mayor Muriel Bowser sent a tweet reminding her subjects to pay attention to their surroundings the next time they go outside.
Auto theft is a crime of opportunity, Bowser wrote. Follow these steps to reduce the risk of your vehicle becoming a target. Those tips included locking your car and not walking away as the engine is running.
Got that, D.C. residents? Staying safe is your job. Its not the job of the mayor you hired to protect you and who sits barricaded in her home, surrounded by a massive security detail you pay for as the city shes supposed to protect descends into chaos. No, its up to you. Youre on your own. Follow these steps to reduce the risk. Not surprisingly, carjackings are up all over the city, and if you know people who live there, they will tell you that. Neighborhoods that were safe last year, arent anymore. There are carjackings going on in residential neighborhoods, a 300% rise over one year, in fact.Shootings, robberies and theft are rising, too. Of course they are. Washington is becoming a scary place again. The capital of our country was also its murder capital in the 1980s. Thats not acceptable for a civilized country, but its becoming that way again.
Why is this happening? We dont have to guess. Its very simple. Last summer, the D.C. City Council voted to cut $15 millionfrom the police budget. It devastated the police department. Theyre basically not recruiting cops right now. There is but one class left at the police academy and massive retirements from the police department. If it continues at this rate, there wont be police in Washington in a few years.
DC MAYOR TAKES HEAT FOR SHARING PREVENTING AUTO THEFTS VIDEO AMID SILENCE ON MOHAMMAD ANWARS DEATH
So what happens when you do something like this? Like clockwork, six months after they defunded the police department, Washington, D.C., recorded its highest murder rate in 15 years. When you defund the police, people die. That happens every single time. And thats why Mayor Muriel Bowsermust surround herself with cops. She doesnt want to get hurt, though she doesnt care if you do.
Its a very simple lesson, and everyone knows its true. Thats why we have cops in the first place. Theyve never really gotten credit for the gravest policy screw-up maybe in living memory. They defunded the police across the country, and our leaders are ignoring the consequences. Some places are doubling down. In Baltimore, for example, acity that does not need more tragedy, officials have announced they will no longer prosecute what they call low-level offenses, including drug possession and prostitution.
Whats low-level, exactly? That kind of depends on where you live and how much police protection you have. Prostitution and drugs arent a big deal if theyre not near you. However, when your kids cant go outside because prostitution and drug possessionare taking place right outside your house, theyre not low-level crimes. They wreck your life. The people who run Baltimore dont care about this. They have no interest whatsoever in what is happening outside your house. So the mayor of Baltimore andthe local prosecutor, recently sent a press release describing this policy as a success because it reduced systemic inequity. By the way, it also led to lower arrests. Imagine that?
So Baltimore has equity now. What a relief. Many of us are hoping Baltimore will have more equity. What does that look like? Last week, Baltimore recorded seven murders in six days. Thats a killing every day of the week, plustwo on Saturday. Thats deeply equitable and its happening in cities across the country. Once again, no ones noticing this, but if you live in one, you well know whats happening.
BALTIMORE GROCERY STORE SHOOTING LEAVES TWO DEAD, ONE HURT
In Chicago, for example, the George Soros-funded states attorney, a hard-left ideologue named Kim Foxxstopped prosecuting what she called low-level crimes. Last year, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfootmayor called for an $80 millionreduction in the police budget. What happened next? Can you guess? Have you read thisstory before? Oh, yeah. By January, Chicagos carjacking problem looked like (wait for it)Washington D.C.s.
Through mid-March, more than 370 carjackings had been reported in Chicago, the most the city has seen in a three-month period in at least 20 years, maybe much longer.
But its not just Chicago. This is happening everywhere is we advance toward a full year of mourningthe death of a single man on the sidewalk in Minneapolis. Thousands of Americans have been murdered thanks to the policy changes justified by the death of that man. Ponder that for a minute. Has there ever been a more perverse moment in this country?
Its not clear what we can do about it, but you can start by telling the truth out loud. According to The Washington Examiner, the murder rate in virtually every city in the United States is at its highest levels in more than two decades. Last year, there were more homicides in the United States than in any year since 1998. How did that happen? Oh, BLM. Thanks, BLM. BLM did this to us whilethe people who are funding them were posturing about how great they are and how this is going to make America more equitable. Poor people were paying the price with their lives. No one has admitted this, no one is accepting responsibility for it,and no one has been punished for it.
Irony of ironies, few places are more dangerous than the actual physical place where George Floyd died in Minneapolis.
None of this is getting better, by the way. Its getting worse. Still, no one has asked the most basic question: Why is this happening? Its not all political. The 13 and 15-year-old girls who killed the Pakistani Uber Eats driver werent acting out of political solidarity with anybody. What is that exactly? Why do people do that?
Jordan Peterson sent a very interesting tweet out the other day, just a simple graph ofthe out-of-wedlock birth rate. Among African-Americans, it was 70%. So if you took the out of wedlock birthrate, broke it down by demographic group, and put it next to the crime rate, one thing you notice they track exactly or close enough to suggest a profound connection.
Why is no one interested in pursuing that? No one even asks why this is happening. Youre not supposed tosee how Mohammad Anwar died. Instead, youre supposed to watch endless loops of video of the death of GeorgeFloyd so you can tell yourself its all one bad cop or its all systemic racism.
CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP
But if you look away from the propaganda and you look toward the reality of whats happening to your country on the streets ofWashington or Chicago orMinneapolis, you might have a few questionsfor the people in power. Theyre the ones who created this society. Theyre the ones responsible, and thats exactly the conversation they dont want to have.
So they tell you much more about George Floyd. Watch the 911 dispatcher testify some more. Just dont change the channel.

Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby: ‘The War on Drugs Is Over’ – Essence
Posted: at 5:37 am
Baltimore City States Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced Friday that the city will no longer prosecute residents for prostitution, drug possession or other low-level offenses in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in correctional facilities.
The Baltimore City States Attorneys Office began working with public health experts one year ago to adopt an approach to slow the spread of COVID-19 in city prisons. Mosbys office decided to stop prosecuting offenses including CDS (drug) possession, trespassing, minor traffic offenses, urinating/defecating in public, open container, anda number ofother offenses.
According to Mosby, the results of the experiment have been successful and will remain intact. The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services says data shows Baltimore Citys incarceration population is down by 18 percent, and the number of people entering the justice system compared to this time last year is down by 39 percent.
Today, Americas war on drug users is over in the city of Baltimore, Mosby said in a statement. We leave behind the era of tough-on-crime prosecution and zero tolerance policing and no longer default to the status quo to criminalize mostly people of color for addiction.
Reimagining public safety in Baltimore requires innovation and collaborative effort, said Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott. I applaud States Attorney Mosbys office for workingwith partners to stem violence in Baltimore and ensure residents have the adequate support services they deserve.

Bill Maher Blasts America’s Excessive Spending And ‘Drug War’ On HBO’s ‘Real Time’ – Decider
Posted: at 5:37 am
While Bill Maher is one of many of us who are looking forward to the big party once the pandemic is over, hes not confident that America has handled COVID-19 in a fiscally responsible way. He likened the impending celebration and economic boost to the Roaring Twenties, which came after the 1918 flu epidemic. Only this time, he says, we can do without the economic crash that came afterwards and the baffling Prohibition that was enacted during the era.
How can we do this you might ask? Maher feels strongly that ending our seemingly bipartisan War on Drugs here in the States and cutting our excessive spending is a good place to start.
The Roaring Twenties became the Broke-Ass Thirties, Maher said.
Last night on Real Time With Bill Maher, the host said that Americas economy is divorced from reality, with unemployment, bankruptcies and shuttered businesses occurring alongside an exceptionally high stock market. Government spending, he said, has lost all boundaries, with the word billion now replaced with trillion as long as the Feds have ink.
The U.S. has thus far spent $6 trillion fighting the novel coronavirus, he said, which is $2 million more than we spent battling a murderers row of bad guys all over the world in World War II. Different times, yes, but still a staggering comparison.
Were spending money like it had an expiration date on it, said the HBO host.
In an attempt to drive home his point, Maher displayed significant images from WWII that included Nazi troops and atomic bombs and contrasted them to an image of a young adult bro relaxing on his couch at home. The late night host failed to mention the families who have been unable to afford food and rent for over a year now.
Maher then compared the 1920s Prohibition to the modern-day Drug Wars, insisting that many of todays societal struggles stem from poor drug policy. But seriously, he asked. This time can we have the party without worrying about getting arrested for doing the drugs that keep the party going?
Refugees flee their countries to come here because of dangerous drug cartels while we have an imbalanced mass incarceration rate due to disastrous drug laws. Other people get it, he added. Mexico legalized weed this month Canada did it two years ago.
Why are we always the last at everything now?
Lets get rid of our own Prohibition aka the drug war and go straight to the part where we admit it doesnt work.

War on drugs! – The Point – The Point
Posted: at 5:37 am
The government spends an acknowledged ton of money arresting, prosecuting and incarcerating drugs users. That's easy to say. What's hard to say is how to find an alternative.
The reality is that drugs, of any kind, are a hard taskmaster. Long experience has led to this conclusion. Continued use is more attractive for most instead of treatment.
It also is clear that drug use is harmful. Cocaine and heroin can be lethal. Marijuana, while not as immediately critical, has been shown in a long-term study in Australia, to be detrimental to one's IQ if use starts in the teen years, as it often does.
What should we do with drug users? Force them to pay for their own treatment? Some are impoverished. We are steadily increasingly regulating other behaviors that concern your health. It will shortly be legal to bill smokers more for their insurance. There has been a raft of anti-smoking legislation. Likewise, we now move into a world where large soft drinks are regulated in some places. They day may come when a joint is legal, but a cupcake is not.
Laws against drinking and driving have been steadily toughened over the years. Does one legalize some drugs, but penalize those who lose their judgment while using?
To be sure, there are many holes in drug policy. It makes no sense to have "drug-free" zones around schools. Should a child be more protected from pushers in school than he is at home? They are every bit as much a failure as "gun-free" zones are.
Likewise, the world of abuse changes. Penalties have to appropriately fit the crime. Some may be too high. Some not high enough. This is a case for an intelligent scalpel, not a simple meat cleaver. Subtle changes may work best. Tobacco is being regulated through a combination of hefty taxes and severe restrictions on its use. Is that the future for marijuana? Maybe.
A government that helps pay for your treatment will have a vested interest in trying to keep you healthy and paying taxes. Part of that may always involve arresting those who sell, and those who use. There is a cost for incarcerating those who use. There will also be a medical cost for not incarcerating them. Perhaps not as much, but we would be wary of those who expect large savings.
Drug treatment will not be free. A lifetime of drug use is no bargain either.

Saskatchewan First Nation creates its own police force to enforce a war on drugs – Toronto Star
Posted: at 5:37 am
The Poundmaker Cree Nation has declared a state of emergency: calling it a war on drugs. By creating their own police force, the Nation will be enforcing custom laws of banishment for anyone involved in drug abuse and trafficking.
Chief Duane Antoine states, We are taking a unified approach and zero tolerance policy to fight drug abuse and trafficking by kicking out band members and nonband members through a Band Council Resolution (BCR) in order to protect our community, especially our children and Elders who are suffering from this exposure to the drug scene within the Nation.
The Nation, located west of the Battlefords in Saskatchewan, said they have attempted to work with the local RCMP to enforce their BCRs, however, the RCMP have no authority to do so. Therefore, Poundmaker Nation is taking their own measures to enforce banishment.
The RCMP have a duty to protect our people and they are not doing their job, so we need to take matters into our own hands to fight the drug problem, We have to hold the Federal Government accountable since these BCRs have no weight for enforcement, and if anyone is liable here, then it would be the Federal Government. The government needs to listen and work with us, and we will do whatever it takes to have our own police force, says Chief Antoine.
The Poundmaker Nation is going to be hosting Chiefs from other Nations to discuss illegal drug activity on March 30, 2021. The goal of this meeting will be to convince other nations to also declare a state of emergency in the war on drugs.
