Every Proud Boys Leader Arrested Over Capitol Riot So Far – Newsweek
Posted: March 21, 2021 at 5:12 pm
Two more leading figures of the far-right Proud Boys group have been charged in connection with the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Zach Rehl, the president of the group's chapter in Philadelphia, and Charles Donohoe, a Proud Boys leader from North Carolina, were indicted on Wednesday, The New York Times reported.
Two others who had already been charged over the riot in which five people diedJoe Biggs, who organizes rallies for the group, and Ethan Nordean, the self-described "sergeant of arms" of the Seattle chapter of the Proud Boyshave also been accused of conspiracy connected to the claims against Rehl and Donohoe.
Thirteen people associated with the Proud Boys have now been accused of taking part in the storming of the Capitol, five of whom are prominent members.
The New York Times reports that Rehl is charged with conspiring to interfere with law enforcement officers at the Capitol and obstruct the certification of President Joe Biden's election victory in Congress.
Photos allegedly showing Rehl taking part in the January 6 attack were recently published by The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Other images have been posted on social media that reportedly show him smoking a cigarette in the office of Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley during the riot.
Rehl is said to have led the Proud Boys Philadelphia chapter since at least 2018 and was seen talking with local officers outside a police union lodge in the city following a visit from former Vice President Mike Pence.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Greensboro told The Raleigh News and Observer that Donohue was arrested on Wednesday in Kernersville, North Carolina, and made his first court appearance a short while later.
It is not yet clear what Donohoe is accused of doing on January 6, but he faces the same charges as Rehl.
Ethan Nordean, also known as Rufio Panman, is said to have been the de facto leader of the Proud Boys on January 6 since the group's chairman, Enrique Tarrio, was barred from Washington D.C. following his arrest two days earlier.
Nordean is accused by prosecutors of giving orders and organizing groups of Proud Boys to attack and gain entry into the Capitol building.
He is charged with obstructing or impeding an official proceeding, aiding and abetting, and knowingly entering or remaining in restricted buildings or grounds and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
Nordean was released from custody on March 3 pending his trial after a judge ruled he did not pose a danger to the community and was not a flight risk.
Joe Biggs is one of the most prominent Proud Boys figures to be accused of storming the Capitol. He was charged in January with a number of offenses including attempting to obstruct, influence or impede an official proceeding before Congress.
According to the Times, Biggs and Nordean are accused of leading a mob of about 100 Proud Boys members and supporters through the streets of D.C. before attacking the Capitol.
Biggs admitted to the FBI that he did enter the building, but said he did so through the already open doors. Biggs denied being aware of any plans to storm the Capitol beforehand.
He was released from custody soon after his arrest in January.
Nick Ochs, leader and founder of Proud Boys Hawaii, was arrested at Honolulu airport on January 7.
He was originally charged with unlawful entry into restricted buildings or grounds, but charges of attempting to stop, delay and hinder the certification of the results of the 2020 presidential election were added later.
Ochswho uploaded a picture of himself inside the building with the caption "hello from the Capital lol"claims he only entered to cover the events as a reporter for the group "Murder the Media."
Ochs and his co-defendant, Nicholas DeCarlo, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them during a court appearance in mid-February.

Roundtable debate discusses UPD and First Amendment rights – Binghamton University Pipe Dream
Posted: at 5:10 pm
Forum held in response to Nov. 2019 protests, opposing views shared
Comparing:Revision 12-C (Rubino, Jeremy)vs.Revision 12-C (Rubino, Jeremy)
In an effort to continue the discussion surrounding students constitutional rights on-campus, multiple Binghamton University groups teamed up to facilitate a conversation among student panelists about campus police and First Amendment rights.
Policing the First Amendment: A Roundtable Debate on Police and First Amendment Rights was a collaboration between the BU Scholars, BU Speech and Debate, Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), the Graduate Student Organization (GSO), Multicultural Resource Center (MRC), Student Association (SA) and the UDiversity Educational Institute. The forum discussed policing for the campus community and the right to assemble, specifically protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Sponsors and hosts of this forum were the CCE and the Division of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Joseph Leeson-Schatz, director of BU Speech and Debate and lecturer of English, was the primary organizer and moderator.
Brian Rose, vice president for student affairs, provided the opening remarks for the forum, stating that he was impressed by the attendance and audience questions.
I am grateful to [the sponsors and hosts] and to the student participants for modeling how we can discuss sometimes divisive questions in a manner that allows us to listen to and learn from each other, Rose said. As [Leeson-Schatz] noted in pointing to an April program, this is not a single event, but rather part of a larger effort to continue to provide similar opportunities for community dialogue. I hope the takeaways are that we can talk to one another from different points of view while still respecting each other and that we should always be open to reexamining our own perspectives.
Nicole Sirju-Johnson, director of the MRC and assistant vice president for DEI, said the part of the series being held April 14 will be a campus deliberation on First Amendment rights. The entire campus community is invited to attend. The committee is currently recruiting interested individuals and will provide training to those wishing to serve as deliberation facilitators.
According to Leeson-Schatz, the forum was in response to two student-led protests that occurred on-campus in November 2019. On Nov. 14, 2019, approximately 200 students protested the BU College Republicans and Turning Point USAs tabling event in support of gun rights hours after a high school shooting in Santa Clarita, California. On Nov. 18, 2019, economist Arthur Laffer, who worked as an adviser to former President Donald Trump and former President Ronald Reagan, was scheduled to speak at the BU College Republicans and Young Americas Foundations (YAF) Trump, Tariffs, Trade Wars event. Over 200 attendees at the lecture were part of a sit-in protest, which resulted in Laffer being removed from the lecture hall by Binghamtons New York State University Police (UPD) and two hired protective agents from Pinkerton Consulting & Investigations, Inc.
Following these events, the Young Americas Foundation (YAF), a national conservative youth organization, filed a civil rights lawsuit against those they felt were violating their First and 14th Amendment rights. Other plaintiffs listed on the court document include the BU College Republicans and Jon Lizak, then president of the BU College Republicans and a sophomore majoring in business administration. BU President Harvey Stenger, Rose, UPD Chief John Pelletier, BU College Progressives, the SA and Progressive Leaders of Tomorrow (PLOT) were named as defendants in court documents.
Sirju-Johnson said this most recent forum was part of the Universitys effort to give students an opportunity to explore campus safety, including freedom of speech, the limits of the First Amendment rights and student engagement with campus police.
Since the November 2019 incidents, more recently, several racist incidents have taken place on-campus, some of which have centered on freedom of speech, Sirju-Johnson said. And while we do not condone the vile comments made, we thought it important to have a discussion on some of the tenets of free speech.
Prior to this weeks forum, the University had put together a roundtable free speech debate in the fall [link here: https://www.bupipedream.com/news/118842/auto-draft-571/%5D. Leeson-Schatz said topics of the most recent debate were decided based on last semesters roundtable and by talking with students directly through the planning committee. Students were also consulted directly through the CCE and MRC. The two most requested topics were centered around free speech and police brutality.
We workshopped the specific questions with our group and through communicating with students, and then finally our speakers, Leeson-Schatz said. Our hope was to create a series of events that produced an intelligent dialogue between the various perspectives to enable a better understanding and a path forward. I think it was great to see the diversity of the panel agree on certain aspects of the topics and disagree on others, but in all situations have an understanding of what the other side was saying and treating them with respect.
Coleen Watson, a social, political, ethical and legal (SPEL) philosophy doctoral candidate and SPEL philosophy GSO president, was a panelist at the forum. She said the debate was constructive and hopes the forum will empower students to discuss controversial issues with each other and improve the campus environment.
I wanted to share my views that I think are both nuanced and correct while hearing out what others had to say, Watson said. At the end of this, I was pretty surprised how much we all agreed on despite ostensibly being from all over the political spectrum.
Logan Blakeslee, another panelist at the forum and a sophomore majoring in history, agreed the debate was a collegial experience.
I hope [attendees] took away the idea that there is hope for compromise and mutual understanding, Blakeslee said. Pitting liberal and conservative students against on another constantly is unproductive, whereas the recent debate showed that there is common ground where a reasonable solution can be found to modern problems.
Kate Marin, a third panelist and a junior double-majoring in psychology and linguistics, proposed an alternative security team outside the context of an actual police force. According to Marin, this group would operate under the authority of the University. All panelists reached a consensus that this alternative force would have its benefits.
Our goal is to continue the dialogue on the importance of listening to one another, even when we have varying, polarizing opinions, Sirju-Johnson said. To continue the conversation about differing viewpoints and yet, create a space and time for members of the community to come together to listen to one another respectfully all of which can be done to bridge relationships.

Nursing Homes: The Nuclear Option – Omaha Reader
Posted: at 5:09 pm
The Nuclear Option
For God, for Family, for Country. Summa Theologiae, St. Thomas Aquinas
In 1945, scientists detonated the first nuclear bomb 100 feet over the New Mexico desert. Civilization entered the Atomic Age. More nuclear destruction was on the horizon. The dissolution of the nuclear family was nearly complete by the end of the century.
Post-WWII affluence and the rapid expansion of the industrial economy, increasing intrusion by government, changes in tax and finance laws, public school oversight displacing parental responsibility and mandatory childhood vaccinations meant that mothers entered the workforce in numbers never seen before. Working moms became the norm. No entity benefitted more than the Federal coffers. Double the workers meant double the taxpayers. Consumerism did the rest. Every household needed higher income to acquire luxuries now deemed necessities. (Try to find a two-car garage in pre-war homes that isnt a converted carriage house.)
Birth of an industry. No one was home during the day and that changed everything. For all of human history, it was common that three or more generations would live under the same family roof. Human longevity fit nicely with that pattern. As new family generations arrived, the older generation was on the wane and was commonly cared for in the family home until shuffling off this mortal coil.
The current Covid / nursing home disaster can be traced directly to Social Security. With the Social Security Act of 1935, the federal government took tinkering with the nuclear family to a new level. Provisions were made to relieve Americans of caring for elderly family members. Uncle Sam would subsidize private institutions for longterm care of old folks. It didnt help that the Great Depression was splitting families apart, too. Private companies were assured a designated clientele that could pay with government checks.
The bigger change came with amendments to the Social Security Act in 1950. Government checks previously sent to old folks could be sent directly to private care facilities, bypassing the taxpayer. What could possibly go wrong with that? Nursing homes grew from less than 6000 nationwide to almost 18,000 by 2017.
In it for the money. Caring for a family member could arguably be seen as the most natural, holistic act a human can perform. Historically, regardless of financial or social circumstance it was what families did. Elderly had a real function in a family for an extended period of time, even as they aged. Then younger family members cared for the older ones in the crepuscular years.
Today, in the panic over a viral infection, elderly who have been removed from family homes and placed into for-profit institutions are in far greater peril. Whether by gain-of-function design, by a genetic mutation or by the dynamics of confined living quarters whatever the cause anyone in a nursing home is at elevated risk. They also become elevated profits for those companies. When a virus-positive resident is in a nursing home, the government check to that nursing home is up to four times greater than for a non-Covid patient. (1)
With 70 percent of U.S. nursing homes for-profit, the reader can decide if bigger checks create incentive. (2) When news reports clearly indicate that thousands of elderly were kept in or returned to confinement in nursing home facilities even though it was known early on that they would be placed at higher risk, the profit motive cannot be overlooked.
I know for a fact that nursing home caregivers with whom I have spoken are emotionally stricken by the events of the past year. The information that has come to me is that the corporate owners make the final decisions. The web of evidence is far-reaching. The money trail is documented. (3) And it has been for a long, long time. This is not news.
Rebel, Rebel. Thomas Aquinas was a rebel. He railed against much of the common thought of the day. His family chastised and even imprisoned him when he displayed extraordinary thought. Ironically, in his landmark work, Summa, he venerated the value of family and the allegiance we as humans must cultivate. He argued it was only natural; holistic if you will. God, family and country, he said. How many in 21st century America fully value any of the three? Yet, just the slightest pivot toward a return to the nuclear family would provide an option to nursing home disasters.
As of this writing, 174,000 U.S. nursing home residents or staff have died associated with the virus. Imagine how many fewer would have died had government officials not mandated policies that endangered them. Imagine how many fewer would have died had we kept family as family and institutions had not been streamlined for profit. We know names and faces of the culpable, both in the public forum and in the mirror.
Be well.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We need herd immunity against brainwashing politicians – Pique Newsmagazine
Posted: at 5:09 pm
As a local general practitioner, I wish to support the sentiment expressed by Sue Saw in last weeks letter section (Question all levels of government on pandemic, Pique, March 11).
For the past 12 months I too have been profoundly disturbed by the medias role in creating and maintaining a constant state of hypervigilance regarding COVID-19.
Measured in terms of threat to quality human life years, coronavirus would not make the top 10 on my personal list of preventable or modifiable risks to human health and longevity. In fact, I have yet to lose a single patient to the disease.
But I do worry about how many clients I may ultimately lose due to this irrational overreaction to the disease, akin to an auto-immune response, bordering on anaphylaxis.
The media has done a brilliant job of documenting the daily death toll related to COVID-19, but the vast collateral damage of the drastic measures imposed to limit its spread will likely never be tabulated.
For most members of the population, conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease and cancer are all greater threats than is the current virus in circulation. Yet panic over the possibility of contracting infection has led to serious delays in diagnosing and managing these conditions for many individuals.
In the elderly, social integration has long been recognized as vital to maintaining mental and physical health, and yet they have been denied this basic right for over a year.
At any demographic level, anywhere in the world, the economic downturn due to political responses to the pandemic is causing and aggravating poverty, another factor intimately linked to poor health and premature death.
Fear of the virus has also discouraged ridership on public transport, even though it is 100 times safer than personal motor transportation, in terms of risk of accidental injury or death. I would guess that the average age of the pandemics collateral victims is well under that of the average age of those who have succumbed to the infection, magnifying the ultimate tally of unnecessary life-years lost.
Like all other living things, human beings have always been dying of infectious disease. History is a litany of waves of epidemics and pandemics, most far more deadly than the current one. I find it extraordinary and hypocritical that we suddenly have become so risk-adverse to a virus while we continue to blissfully play Russian roulette with so many fundamental life-sustaining elements of our biosphere, including climate stability.
Depending on the evolution of coronavirus strains, herd immunity and vaccination programs may ultimatelyprovide at least temporary reprieve from propagation of the disease itself, but what I would really like to see is development of a vaccine versus paranoia and mass hysteria, to help us achieve herd immunity to brainwashing by fear-mongeringpoliticians and members of the media.

Bionaut Sends Robots into the Human Body to Treat Disease – Nanalyze
Posted: at 5:09 pm
It may sound like science fiction, but there was a time when people were optimistic about the future. Perhaps no other decade embodies that optimism than the 1960s, though maybe it was all of the psychedelic drugs. Still, we made it to the moon, and sci-fi shows like Star Trek offered an inspiring vision of exploring strange new worlds and exotic alien bodies. The same year Capt. Kirk beamed across the galaxy, a movie called Fantastic Voyage hit the big screen in 1966. The film was about a submarine crew who are shrunk to microscopic size in order to enter the body of an injured scientist to repair damage to his brain. Crazy, impossible stuff, right?
Fifty-something years later, psychedelics are an emerging therapy, were headed back to the moon to mine for riches, and William Capt. Kirk Shatner has released eight spoken-word albums but has yet to win a Grammy. And, oh, were about to send miniature robots into the human body to help repair damage to the brain and the rest of the central nervous system. Lets meet the startup on this fantastical journey.
Founded in 2016, Los Angeles-based Bionaut Labs came out of stealth mode this month by raising a $20 million Series A led by one of the top tech-loving venture capital (VC) firms, Khosla Ventures, which also participated in an undisclosed Seed round a couple of years earlier. Another investor is BOLD Capital, a VC outfit where Peter Diamandis serves as general partner. The well-known billionaire futurist invests in what he calls exponential technologies, particularly in areas like human longevity.
In a blog post about the value proposition of the company, Diamandis wrote:
Technologies such as Bionauts and the many other medical robots entering the healthcare arena are resulting from the extraordinary convergence of exponential technologies. The combination of computation, AI, sensors, networks, 3D printing, VR and AR is transforming how we find and treat disease.
Another thing to note before we talk about what has Diamandis so excited about Bionaut Labs is that several members of the startups leadership and advisory board have affiliations with a company called PrimeSense. Never heard of it? Us neither, but most of us are familiar with Microsofts Xbox. Microsoft (MSFT) acquired PrimeSense, which had developed 3D motion-sensing technology used in the Xbox 360, for $360 million in 2013. One PrimeSense alumnus is Michael Shpigelmacher, co-founder and CEO of Bionaut Labs, who has also done stints at McKinsey & Company and hedge fund company PDT Partners that was spun off from Morgan Stanley about a decade ago. So this is a company, as they say, with proven leadership.
In a nutshell, Bionaut Labs is developing remote-controlled robots smaller than a grain of rice that navigate through the body for precision treatment of disease, starting with the brain and central nervous system. We need to make a quick distinction here: Precision medicine, also known as personal medicine, applies genetics, machine learning, and other tools in order to tailor treatments as much as possible to a persons particular physiology. Thats different from what Bionaut Labs is doing, which is creating a precise drug delivery platform, rather than the spray-and-pray approach of most medical therapies today. This is also different from the robotic pills that weve written about before that are designed to replace injections.
Measuring less than one millimeter in length, the 3D-printed Bionauts contain moving parts controlled remotely by a magnetic guidance system. The magnetic energy required to operate the robot is less than 10% of that used in MRIs and is much cheaper to generate, according to Diamandis. These miniature medical machines are actually capable of autonomous operation but humans will remain in the loop, especially in the early days.
The bot is injected either into the lumbar spine, like in an epidural procedure, or behind the skull. It then speeds and slices its way through tissue to the target site, such as a tumor, where it is magnetically triggered to release a drug payload from the cargo compartment. The robot then returns the way it came. Bionauts can even go off road compared to conventional technologies that stick to established routes such as the vasculature. For example, they can swim through cerebrospinal fluid or even burrow through brain tissue. The accuracy is on par with surgeons, with a deviation of just one millimeter. The robot can be designed in a range of sizes, payloads, shapes, topologies, functions, and flavors. We might have made up one of those.
Bionaut Labs claims that roughly half of all approved medicines treat diseases that are local in nature, where precision targeting using its wee robots offers better results and less chance of side effects. The company is initially targeting its robotic drug delivery system against glioma and Huntingtons disease. The former is a type of tumor that forms in the brain or spine, representing 80% of all malignant brain tumors. The latter is a progressive degenerative brain disease with few treatment options.
Eventually, the company believes its robots could become diagnostic tools in addition to therapeutic ones by remaining in the body to detect disease before symptoms occur. Diamandis predicts even more futuristic versions, such as even smaller Bionauts for minimally invasive treatments of eye disease.
Thats all still well into the future. The company is currently in the preclinical phase, testing the Bionauts on pigs and sheep, with human clinical trials still a couple of years away.
We started Nanalyze nearly 20 years ago over our sheer fascination with the potential of nanotechnology. The idea that microscopic machines nanobots as we used to call them could someday help treat disease was one of the most exciting applications of the technology. Its already happening in areas like synthetic biology, which is engineering biological machines out of bacteria, proteins, and more. While not yet on the nanoscale, Bionauts represent the first generation of miniature mechanistic machines that can do a big job.
Pure-play disruptive tech stocks are not only hard to find, but investing in them is risky business. That's whywe created The Nanalyze Disruptive Tech Portfolio Report. Find out which tech stocks we love, like, and avoid in this special report, now available for all Nanalyze Premiumannual subscribers.

The One Ingredient Everyone’s Adding to Their Coffee | Eat This Not That – Eat This, Not That
Posted: at 5:09 pm
The days of cream and sugar are over. There's a new ingredient in town that everyone is putting in their coffeeand it's not just for flavor: adaptogens.
"Adaptogens are nontoxic herbal pharmaceuticals which claim to help us better cope with (or increase our resistance to) mental or physical stress, improving physical and mental performance, and possibly supporting the immune system," says Silvia Carli, MS, RD, registered dietitian for 1AND1 LIFE. (Related: 11 Healthy Foods That Make You Smarter, According to Doctors.)
Many of the new canned and bottled coffee drinks use adaptogens to help deliver all the focus of caffeinated coffee but with less of a crash or jitters while providing stress-relieving benefits.
While adaptogens have been used for thousands of years in traditional herbal medicine, they're only recently becoming more commonplace as more research is being done to confirm their benefits.
"Functional mushrooms are finally having their moment in the public spotlight, in large part due to the growing amount of research into their health benefits as well as their applications in food," says Kerry Hughes, MS, CNC, a certified clinical nutritionist, ethnobotanist and herbalist who is on the Scientific Advisory Board for Good Pharma.
If you've ever felt too jittery after drinking plain coffee, you might be interested in drinking adaptogen-enriched coffee, which is often much lower in caffeine than a traditional cup of joe while also having the benefits of functional mushrooms.
As adaptogens have been linked to lower stress levels, adding them to coffee may help to lower our level of stress and burnout in an easy wayby adding it to something we drink every day anyway.
"The search is on for more natural and accessible ways to manage stress that may also have additional health benefits such as increased cognitive function as well as boost immunity," says Aimee Plauche, RD, an advising registered dietitian for ICONIC. And adaptogens are one of the ways to do this.
These mushrooms and roots have been used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years, but we're just starting to do more research into adaptogens to prove their benefits.
"While more research is needed, studies on the utility of certain adaptogens seem promising," saysKylie Ivanir, MS, RD, a registered dietitian atWithin Nutrition.
"Studies conducted in animals and in human cell samples have shown that adaptogens may indeed demonstrate neuroprotective activity, have anti-fatigue and antidepressant properties, and can serve as a stimulant for the central nervous system. Studies have shown that particular adaptogens, such as Rhodiola extract, can improve cognitive function and combat fatigue," says Ivanir.
She adds that larger research studies completed on humans are needed to determine the efficacy of each particular adaptogen.
There are a few common adaptogens that are used more frequently in coffee:
Adaptogen coffee has some great added benefits, but experts say you shouldn't be drinking it as a solution to your underlying health problems.
"It's not that adaptogens would not improve your quality of life if you are extremely stressed, but is that the factor that is going to make the biggest difference?" says Carli.
She recommends taking a closer look at your daily habits: "I want to invite the readers to reflect on a couple of points: are there other adjustments that we can make in our daily routine to ease the stress in our lives? For example: are we practicing self-care, eating an overall healthy, varied, and balanced diet without overly processed foods? Are we sleeping well? Do you journal? Do you exercise? Do you have an outlet to talk about your stressors?" says Carli.
If you're dealing with a lot of stress, it might be best to combine your adaptogen coffee with other stress-reducing habits.
Adaptogens aren't for everyone. And it's not just about personal preferencetaking adaptogens isn't safe for certain people.
"It is important to note that certain adaptogens may not be safe for everyone including pregnant women, so it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider," says Ivanir.
As with any supplement, Carli notes that you should make sure the adaptogens you're consuming are safeespecially considering that these are a fairly new product.
"When new supplements get on the market quickly due to new trends (sometimes poorly supported by research), the process of testing for quality and purity is not always ideal and thorough, which means that we are not certain of the actual contents of that supplement and it could turn out being harmful to health," says Carli. (Related: 6 Popular Supplements That Don't Actually Work, According to Experts.)
That's why Ivanir tells that it's important to choose reputable brands that have been third-party tested to ensure there are no contaminants or heavy metals.
And although the benefits of adaptogens sound enticing, it's always good to keep in mind that it's best to not rely on taking these ingredients alone for their benefits without following a well-balanced diet.
"Adaptogens should not take the place of a balanced diet, physical activity, and any necessary medications, they may be used as a supplement to support overall health," adds Ivanir.

How to live longer: Honey to help reduce cancer risks, increase memory & boost longevity – Express
Posted: at 5:09 pm
While a person cant stop ageing, you can, in a way, slow it down. There is no easier way to do so than through healthy lifestyle habits. By consuming raw honey moderately, you could help increase your lifespan, experts say.
Honey is widely accepted as food and medicine by all generations, traditions and civilisations, both ancient and modern.
Honey is a sweet, flavourful liquid food of high nutritional value and immense health benefits.
Some of the vitamins found in honey include ascorbic acid, pantothenic acid, niacin and riboflavin; along with minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.

In a study published in the National Library of Health, the effects of honey and its mechanisms of action on the development and progression of cancer was analysed.
The study noted: Honey is a natural product known for its varied biological or pharmacological activities-ranging from anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antihypertensive to hypoglycaemic effects.
Effects of honey have been thoroughly investigated in certain cancers such as breast, liver and colorectal cancer cell lines. In contrast, limited but promising data are available for other forms of cancers including prostate, bladder, endometrial, kidney, skin, cervical, oral and bone cancer cells.
Honey is highly cytotoxic against tumour or cancer cells while it is non-cytotoxic to normal cells.
Thus, honey may serve as a potential and promising anticancer agent which warrants further experimental and clinical studies.

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death worldwide.
However, the use of honey may help to address each of the factors contributing to heart disease.
For one, elevated levels of poor low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol raise the risk of heart disease.
This is because it can lead to blocked arteries, which then increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
However, studies have found that honey not only helps to lower the levels of LDL cholesterol, but it also serves to raise the levels of good high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.
Produced in New Zealand by bees that pollinate the Manuka tree, this form of honey is known for its rich nutritional value as it contains high levels of amino acids, B vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium and other essential nutrients making it one of the healthiest types of honey out there.
While regular honey may contain the same nutrients, the reason as to why the Manuka one has a better reputation is because it contains additional compounds that make it even more beneficial for human health.
All kinds of honey have been used as natural antibiotics throughout the centuries. In recent years, researchers have discovered that honeys power to kill germs comes from hydrogen peroxide produced with the help of a bee enzyme.
Manuka honey takes this a step further by attacking germs with a substance called MGO. Found in the nectar of some Manuka plants, this substance helps heal both minor and chronic wounds.
Anti-ageing is about postponing the onset of old age, while maintaining strong and healthy body.
Raw Manuka honey not only protects ones overall health, it also boosts your metabolism.
Having a sluggish metabolism and slow fat burning are typical of old age.
By replacing sugar with honey, you will speed up the rate at which you burn calories and thus lose weight natural way.
Studies have also indicated that by consuming raw honey you will have better endurance when it comes to exercising.
By losing weight, reducing your risk of cancers and heart disease you can help boost your longevity.

CHILLICOTHE A new partnership between a local school and a small business is helping students stay connected to their class even when learning remotely.
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Bishop Flaget School andObjective Reality Games a virtual reality arcade and game studio collaborated to provide a new educational opportunity. By using anOculus headset, students can visit a VR classroom, participate in lectures, complete assignmentsand engage with their peers all from home.
"Imagination is the only limitation in the virtual space we've created," said Colin Rose, who owns Objective Reality Games with his wife, Sara. A big reason why they wanted to become involved in the project was to allow smaller schools the same resources as larger ones. "We can offer anything from VR recess hide and seek or dodge ball virtual tours of the galaxy, or even chemistry and biology labs. As we build out the space, we are so lucky to have Bishop Flaget involved in the coding and design process."
On Wednesday, eighth-graders in an English Language Arts class were the first to beta test the program. In one room, two students equipped with a headset and touch controllers entered a virtual world where they rode an elevator to their classroom. In another room, their classmates could see the VR world in real-time.

Students in the virtual world logged on to Bishop Flaget's learning platform through a VR web browser. There, they have access to tests, homework, lectures, and they can evensee their classmates in real-time, speak with them and interact by sharing videos, playing games or even high-fiving.
As they explored, beta testers encouraged each other to learn new things and found joy when they discovered something cool. Student Mason Brown was particularly excited when he realized he could interact withthe sun and even throw it around the room.
For technology and art teacher Christy Fay, it was moving to see the students excited about learning. It was through a relationship she formed with the Roses at their1080 N Bridge St. locationthat the software became available to the local school.
"Through this connection, we hope that students don't feel as isolated," Fay said."We are so worried about academics that we sometimes forget about social and mental health."
In August, the Roses reached out to their partners atKnoxlabs in Burbank, California to see if they had any ideas for programming to bridge the social gap. From there, the two gaming studios were able to adapt a VR world designed for corporateoffices into a classroom.
The environment allows students to feel like they're physically present, Rose said, thus allowing them to turn on an educational mindset but it also lets them see their peers in a more personal way.
He added that while they built a solid VR platform, the biggest challenge is integrating different schools' programs. Although they had to do a bit of troubleshooting at the beginning, Fay added that it'sa great opportunity for the students to see adults working together without giving up.
Classroom knowledge is important, but she said it's priceless to see the VR program teaching students soft skills, like adaptability and problem-solving, too.
And while efforts to vaccinate K-12 staff across the state in an effort to reopen schools and have students back in the classroom at least partially have already begun, Fay believes the school will continue to utilize this program even when the pandemic is over.
Now, students who have special needs, experience regular absence due to medical conditions or individuals who have to stay at home for any reason can receive an education despite not being present in the classroom. It can also be used to help manage snow days and ensure districts don't have to extend the school year.

While Bishop Flaget's eighth-graders will be the first Ross County students with access to the VR world, Fay said that eventually, they hope to phase it throughout the entire middle school. Rose hopes that someday, other schools will utilize the program to integrate it into their own virtual learning platforms.
"We didn't plan for this pandemic and we might not plan for the next issue that'll keep us home," Fay said. "We can keep in practice and stay one step ahead."
