Is Real Time with Bill Maher new tonight, February 26? – Last Night On
Posted: February 28, 2021 at 10:27 pm
Real Time with Bill Maherdisappointed fans last week by taking a night off. So what should fans expect to see tonight on HBO?
Fans were looking forward to hearing Bill Mahers take on Senator Ted Cruz fleeing Texas for Mexico among other stories from Washington that dominated the headlines. Instead, they were treated to the first repeat of season 19.
Things are set to get back on track tonight. There will be a brand new episode ofReal Time with Bill Maheron HBO.
After Maher shares his thoughts with his monologue and New Rule segment, it will be time for the interviews.Real Timereturns by welcoming a controversial media figure.
Bill Mahers lead interview will be with journalist Megyn Kelly. After over a decade at Fox News and a brief stint with NBC, Kelly now hosts The Megyn Kelly Show podcast.
The media coverage of former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden could be one main topic of conversation. Kelly has her own history with President Trump and could also offer some insight into how networks like Fox and NBC approach politics.
Another possible discussion point is cancel culture and political correctness. It was Kellys controversial comments about blackface that ended her professional relationship with NBC. A new crop of Republicans has made cancel culture a point of emphasis so it would be interesting to hear Kelly and Maher go back and forth over the topic.
Both ofReal Time with Bill Mahers panel guests are familiar faces to fans. Bill Maher will welcome Senator Jon Tester and columnist Ezra Klein.
Sen. Tester is a Democrat from Montana. Last year, he published the bookGrounded: A Senators Lessons on Winning Back Rural America. He could share his thoughts on political divisiveness in the country and how the Democratic Party can connect more with middle America.
Klein can be read in theNew York Times and heard on The Ezra Klein Show podcast. His latest book isWhy Were Polarized, a look at how Americas political system is designed to divide people and how Americans are making it easier. This relates to Sen. Testers book, giving fans an idea of what to expect from tonightsReal Timepanel.
Bill Maher has a lot to catch up on tonight so audiences should expect theReal Timehost to bring his A-game. The interview with Megyn Kelly is sure to get a lot of attention considering both participants arent shy about sharing their thoughts on sensitive subjects. Thousands of fish dead after freeze, fishermen concerned about economic impact – KGBT-TV

Dead fish in the marina on Port Isabel Tuesday. (KVEO)
PORT ISABEL, Texas (KVEO) The effects of last weeks winter storm continue to show up along the Texas coast, as thousands of dead fish arescatteredaroundbeaches and marinas.
Sea turtles were in the spotlight last week as thousands washed ashore cold-stunned, but fish were in the mix too.
Fish that were in shallow waters at the time of the freeze are now floating belly up and washed ashore everywhere from Boca Chica Beach up to Port Mansfield.
Thenumberof dead fish is astonishing, but nothing we havenot seen before.
Capitan Charlie Guillen is a fisherman and runsthe Facebook page Boca Chica Beach Legends. Herecently posted aphotograph of his vehicle amongst a pile of fish that died after thefreezein 2004; the first year it snowed in the Rio Grande Valley in 110 years.
We saw massive fish kill, said Guillen. We have some photos of huge piles of mullet, snook, Atlantic spadefish, just a lot of species of fish that we saw washing up in certain areas.
Many fishermen took advantage of the larger fish seeking warmer waters after the cold snap.
But with masses of smaller baitfish dead along the shores and larger game fish being fished out of the waters, some like Guillen are concerned for the ecosystem.
I decided Im going to sit back a little bit and kind of watch the way things are going, said Guillen.
After seeing numerous videos of fish kills filmed by his followers, he said he willconserve whats leftby only taking what will be eaten, and that practicingcatchand release may be beneficial to the fisheries.
Jason Ferguson withTexas Parks and WildlifeCoastal Fisheries Divisiontold KVEOin a statementthat they are still working on assessingthe situation.
We currently are in the process of assessing the fish kill that has occurred as a result of the freeze event last week. Our department has had staff out on the water all week to systematically assess all parts of the Texas coast, including the lower Laguna Madre. Once we have had a chance to examine all the areas of the bay, we will be able to analyze the data to come up with an estimate of total fish mortality. Then we will have an idea of how this fish kill compares to previous ones from past freeze events.
Some fishermencannottake a break from fishing so easily.
Capitan George Straderowns GeorgesFishing Charter Servicesand earns his living by taking people out to fish.
Strader said his clients have had no problem catching fish in the past week, but theperceptionthat there are none left has people canceling.
We understand what happened and what is happening. So,we are going to promote releasing some of the fish and if they want to release them all, that would be great. But at the same time if they want to keep some and stay within the state limitsthat are set out there, its going to be okay as well, said Strader.
Until TPWreleases their report, it will be difficult for fisheries to tellthe how big impact will be.

For the first time, we have an audio recording from the surface of Mars – take a listen – Business Insider India
Posted: at 10:25 pm
For the first time in history, we have an audio recording from the surface of another planet.
NASA's Perseverance rover landed on Mars Thursday, using a jetpack to maneuver to a safe spot in the 28-mile-wide Jezero Crater. On Saturday, microphones attached to the rover captured an unprecedented audio recording.
"Just imagine yourself sitting on the surface of Mars and listening to the surroundings," Dave Gruel, NASA's lead engineer for Perseverance's camera and microphone systems, said during a Monday press conference. "Here 10 seconds in was an actual wind gust on the surface of Mars, picked up by the microphone and sent back to us here on Earth."
The experience of listening to it, he said, was "overwhelming, if you will."
The other mic was designed to listen to sounds from the rover, specifically its SuperCam laser instrument, which zaps Mars rocks and soil. Putting a microphone on the SuperCam gives the rover and the scientists analyzing its data another "sense" with which to probe Martian rock. The laser should make a staccato pop when it vaporizes Martian rock.
According to Gruel, both microphones will continue collecting audio during the rest of Perseverance's mission. The rover is poised to spend the next two years scouring the river delta of Jezero Crater for signs of ancient alien life, and should collect its first rock samples this summer if all goes according to plan.
Perseverance is NASA's fifth and most sophisticated Mars rover. The agency equipped two Martian spacecraft with microphones in the past, but one of those - the Mars Polar Lander - failed, and the other - the Phoenix lander - never turned on its microphone.
NASA's InSight lander, which touched down on Mars in 2018, enabled scientists to listen to the Martian wind in a different way. The lander was equipped with a seismometer to study Mars quakes, but the tool also sensed the vibrations that wind caused as it gusted across InSight's solar panels. The low-pitch sounds of these vibrations were audible to the human ear.

The California Exodus: How Texas Is Becoming the New Hollywood – Study Breaks
Posted: at 10:25 pm
Post Views: 55
Close your eyes and imagine a perfect place somewhere filled with mountains, ideal tanning weather and celebrities. If the place you had in mind was anywhere near California, then you might be living in 2018. Its 2021 now, Texas is the new California and Austin is the new Hollywood.
Scratch that, Hollywood is dead yet another victim of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its been replaced by the Netflix empire and a slew of forgettable podcasts. The Golden States declining appeal is indicative of a changing modern landscape, signaling the birthplace of a new potential media and industrial empire. At least thats what some of the worlds leading innovators, podcasters and comedians are thinking.
The truth is, however, Texas has been going through a lot lately from debilitating winter storms that would be only a mild inconvenience in most states to the invasion of California celebrities and tech billionaires looking to save on taxes. Texas is hardly the same sunny and independent state that it once was.
Theyre not the only ones, though; according to the Texas Realtors Associations 2020 report, over 86,000 Californians relocated to Texas, with the same report indicating a 78% increase in out-of-state residents. A decision some would come to regret in the great Texas ice storm of February 2021.
Theres no doubt that Texas has always had a certain allure for people with diverse backgrounds and motivations, but theres been a recent surge of interest in the state among celebrities like Joe Rogan and Elon Musk.
The pair have appeared together on Rogans popular podcast multiple times, making for fascinating conversations where Rogan asks a question about space aliens while Musk calculates how his reaction will affect the stock market before answering.
Their latest podcast together hit on all the fan favorite topics, like commercializing spaceflight and colonizing the galaxy. As relevant as these things are, it would be interesting to hear about the implications of the worlds most popular podcaster and richest man moving to Texas. What does it mean for Texas, and what does the exodus say about Californias current conditions?
For Rogan, the shutdown of his beloved The Comedy Store in LA, combined with overpopulation, largely prompted the move to Austin, Texas. He explained,I want to go somewhere in the center of the country, somewhere easier to travel to both places and somewhere you have a little bit more freedom, also I think Los Angeles is overcrowded.
The move will also help him keep more of his $100 million Spotify deal, which will save him over $13 million in taxes. So whats in it for Texans? Well, hopefully some of that $13 million will come in handy for the new comedy club Rogan has talked about opening in Austin.
In a recent podcast with fellow Texan and comedian Ron White, Rogan mentioned his desire to open a club and help foster a thriving Austin comedy scene. Rogan said,I want to help them, the way Ive helped comics in LA, get them on the podcast, promote them, the idea is to let people know theres a real scene here.
Indeed, if Rogan makes good on his promise, Austin could become the countrys new mecca of comedy.
On the other hand, Musks migration has much to do with overseeing the construction of new projects for his companies, SpaceX and Tesla. SpaceX is currently building and testing rockets in Boca Chica, a remote piece of land in South Texas. Meanwhile, construction is currently underway on Teslas gigafactory, a massive manufacturing center where the companys new Cybertruck, Semi and Model Y vehicles will be produced before the end of 2021.
Of course, it goes without saying that Musk will also enjoy a much-needed tax break from his Texas residency, but hes been characteristically cryptic in his comments regarding moving on from California. He said,If a team has been winning for too long they do tend to get a little complacent, a little entitled and then they dont win the championship anymore. Musk has certainly been critical of the states COVID-19 shutdowns in the past, comments that havent aged well in hindsight.
Nevertheless, the tech billionaires opinion of living in California is best summarized in the following sentence, preferablyread aloud in his voice: It wasnt necessarily a great use of my time here.
Following the migration of these two behemoths comes others who are hoping to establish themselves in a bustling new environment ripe for the taking.
Enter comedian Tim Dillon, host of The Tim Dillon Show and current Texas resident. After appearing on Rogans podcast, Dillon exploded in popularity due in part to his wildly offensive but hilarious rants on anything from conspiracy theories to corporate steakhouses.
His dark humor has propelled his podcast into the mainstream, and with his recent move to the Texas Hill Country, hes become one of the first comedians to follow Rogans California departure.
Why? In his words, Pick a reason, theres 25, cost a lot of money to live in the state, tax burden is high, theres less to do. Being in a career that I have makes me want to go down and live simpler in a less expensive state, do live shows and podcasts.Or, as he more succinctly put it in another podcast, New York and LA its been done, who cares? Its been done.
Aside from the banality of Americas two most iconic cities, it seems that a lower cost of living is a common factor in moving to Texas for these tax-evading nomads. Californias income tax is certainly high, ranking as the highest in the country according to Business Insider.
However, if other wealthy elites follow suit, what could the loss of tax revenue mean for California a state that is already suffering from a massive homeless problem? According to NPR, the homeless population in Los Angeles alone is now over 66,000, a nearly 13% increase from 2019. With economic conditions worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, its no wonder individuals with the means to move are seeking other places to lay their hats.
Ultimately, the change ushered in by 2020 has brought a new landscape of opportunities. Whether or not Austin turns into Los Angelesis entirely up in the air until COVID-19 becomes a long page in the history books. Until then, more and more Californians are embracing the words spoken by Texan icon Joe Rogan:Im outta here, Im gonna go to Texas.

Apple’s latest computers are being targeted by a new type of malware – and 30,000 machines are already infecte – Business Insider India
Posted: at 10:25 pm
In November 2020, Apple unveiled a slate of new computers that were powered by the company's first-ever in-house silicon: The Apple M1 chip.
By early 2021, it looks like Apple's line of new computers has already been breached by a malicious set of software nicknamed "Silver Sparrow." Just shy of 30,000 of Apple's new computers have already been infected, according to the security firm Red Canary, primarily in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, and Germany.
"Though we haven't observed Silver Sparrow delivering additional malicious payloads yet," Tony Lambert, an analyst at Red Canary intelligence, wrote in a blog post. "Its forward-looking M1 chip compatibility, global reach, relatively high infection rate, and operational maturity suggest Silver Sparrow is a reasonably serious threat, uniquely positioned to deliver a potentially impactful payload at a moment's notice."

Elon Musk may have called out Jeff Bezos with puppet …
Posted: at 10:24 pm
Tesla CEO Elon Musk gave a brief but loaded comment to the Washington Post this week when the newspaper reached out over a story written about him.
"Give my regards to your puppet master," Musk replied to the papers request for its story "Elon Musk Moved to Texas and embraced celebrity. Can Tesla Run on Autopilot?"
Muskwas almost certainly referring to Jeff Bezos, who owns the Post.
There have been reports of a brewingfeuding between the two for years, frequently over their ambitions in space: Musk owns the company SpaceX and Bezos owns Blue Origin.
In 2019, Bezos subtly mocked Musks plans to send people to Mars.

"My friends who want to move to Mars, I say, do me a favor and go live on the top of Mount Everest for a year first, and see if you like it, because its a garden paradise compared to Mars," he told SpaceNews.
The two billionaires have also competed for the spot as the world's richest man with Bezos overtaking Musk again last week after Musk's wealth fell by $15 million when he tweeted that Bitcoin prices "seem high."
JEFF BEZOS OVERTAKES ELON MUSK TO BECOME WORLD'S RICHEST PERSON
The Post article reported on Teslas "questionable business moves" and claimed critics have said his personal schedule and "seeming cult of personality that has developed around him, are beginning to show in the car company he runs."
Author Faiz Siddiqui said the story was written following interviews with a dozen of "current and former Tesla employees, investors and analysts."
The Post has said that Bezos has no editorial influence over the paper and it has written plenty of stories casting the company in a negative light, including one last week headlined "New York sues Amazon alleging flagrant disregard of health standards at warehouses."
Former President Trump has also been critical of Bezos and the newspaper, calling it Amazon's "chief strategist" and "fake news."

Elon Musk: SpaceX will double Starlink internet speed …
Posted: at 10:24 pm
A Starlink user terminal installed on the roof of a building in Canada.
SpaceX
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said the company's Starlink satellite internet service "will double" speeds to customers "later this year," as it continues to build out the global consumer network.
"Speed will double to ~300Mb/s & latency will drop to ~20ms later this year," Musk said in a tweet on Monday, responding to a user who showed speed tests ranging between 77 and 130 Mbps.
Latency is the amount of delay in an internet network, defining how much time it takes a signal to travel back and forth from a destination. Latency and download speeds are key measures for an internet service provider.
In a following tweet, Musk added that Starlink will reach customers around "most" of the Earth by the end of 2021 and is expecting to have complete global coverage "by next year."
He emphasized that Starlink, like other satellite broadband services, is intended for customers in "low to medium population density area."
"Cellular will always have the advantage in dense urban areas," Musk said.

To date SpaceX has launched more than 1,000 satellites for Starlink. In October, SpaceX began rolling out early service in a public beta tocustomers in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., with service priced at $99 a month, plus a $499 upfront cost for the hardware needed to connect to the network.
The company recently widened the scope of that public beta, allowing prospective users to place preorders for Starlink service. SpaceX, in a filing with the Federal Communications Commission earlier this month, disclosed that Starlink has "over 10,000 users in the United States and abroad," in just over three months since the public beta began.
SpaceX noted in that FCC filing that Starlink's service is "meeting and exceeding 100/20 megabits per second ('Mbps') throughput to individual users," while most users were seeing latency "at or below 31 milliseconds."
SpaceX deploys 60 Starlink satellites in orbit.

"I hope they do! It would be awesome," Musk replied with two crying laughing emojis.
Speculation regarding an investigation by U.S. regulators over his posts was set off by a tweet from a financial markets newswire called First Squawk, according to Newsweek.
In its own tweet, First Squawk wrote that the "SEC IS SAID TO INVESTIGATE TESLA CHIEF EXECUTIVE MUSK FOR HIS TWEETS ONDOGECOIN," according to "SOURCES FAMILIAR WITH THE MATTER."
Musk has repeatedly referenced Dogecoin over the past couple of weeks to his more than 48 million followers.
On Wednesday, Musk tweeted a picture of the Dogecoin Shiba Inu planting a Dogecoin flag "on the actual moon" -- causing the price of Dogecoin to spike again --and on Feb. 21 he posted the phrase, "Dojo 4 Doge."

No such investigation has been confirmed by the commission.
Nevertheless, Musk has a checkered past with the SEC.
In 2018, he was fined more than $20 million and forced to step down as Tesla's board chairman after tweeting he had "funding secured to take the electric-car maker private at $420 a share.
The announcement caused Telsa shares to surge, but the SEC said Musk had not hammered down financing for the alleged deal and the rocket scientist admittedhe had chosenthe $420 figure to make a joke about marijuana.
In an interview with60 Minuteslater that year, Musk saidhe did not respect the agency and tweeted in the summer of last year: "SEC, three letter acronym, middle word is Elons."
However, speaking on the Clubhouse app at the end of January, Musk said that his jokes about Dogecoin "are really just meant to be jokes."

It is a rival cryptocurrency of Bitcoin, which was born as a result of a meme, a dog of the Shiba Inu breed, also known on the internet as Cheems. This is Musk's favorite and he has not been shy about giving his opinion on it. Among the tweets are "Dogecoin is the crypto of the people" and "No ups and downs, just Doge ." After that, it increased its value by more than 50%.

Opinion | Why Are Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos So Interested in Space? – The New York Times
Posted: at 10:24 pm
Why do the worlds two richest men want to get off the planet so badly?
Elon Musk of Tesla and Jeff Bezos of Amazon have more than $350 billion in combined wealth and preside over two of the most valuable companies ever created. But when theyre not innovating on Earth, they have been focusing their considerable brain power on bringing a multiplanetary human habitat to reality.
For Mr. Musk, its through his other company, SpaceX, which has become an ever bigger player in the private space-technology arena. On top of satellite launches and other rocket innovations, the company announced it will send its first all civilian crew into orbit at the end of the year, in a mission called Inspiration4. SpaceX has already carried NASA astronauts to the International Space Station and is planning to transport more, as well as private astronauts, for a high price.
Most ambitiously, Mr. Musk has said that SpaceX will land humans on Mars by 2026. To do that, the private company will use a chunk of the close to $3 billion including $850 million announced this week in a regulatory filing that it has raised over the last year to finance this herculean effort.
While Mr. Musk might not be the first human to go to the red planet, he once told me that he wanted to die there, joking, Just not on landing.
Mr. Bezos, who is stepping down as chief executive of Amazon this year, is expected to accelerate his space-travel efforts through his company Blue Origin, whose tag line reads, in part, Earth, in all its beauty, is just our starting place.
Like SpaceX, Blue Origin is working on payload launches and reusable orbital launch vehicles, as well as on moon landing technology, to achieve what Mr. Bezos once called low-cost access to space. Blue Origin executives said recently that the company is close to blasting off into space with humans.
Mr. Bezos most extravagant notion, unveiled in 2019, is a vision of space colonies spinning cylinders floating out there with all kinds of environments.
These are very large structures, miles on end, and they hold a million people or more each, he said, noting they are intended to relieve the stress on Earth and help make it more livable.
Its probably good for space innovation that two billionaires are slugging it out and attracting all kinds of start-ups, investments and interest to the area. But all of their frantic aggression has been overshadowed of late by two spectacular efforts by NASA.
The two NASA missions delivered this week the kind of awe-inspiring moments that make one look up from the wretched news spewing out of our smartphones toward the stunning celestial beauty of the endless universe.
The first was the batch of images from amazing high-definition cameras on the Perseverance rover, a car-size autonomous vehicle that touched down in the Jezero Crater on Mars last week. The photographs are so sharp that you can zoom in close enough to look at the holes in the rocks on the surface and even get a pretty good sense of the dirt itself. The larger panorama is just as arresting, a desert scene that is breathtakingly alien while also feeling quite familiar.
I found myself staring at the scenes for an hour, marveling that I can see the details of an elegant wind-carved boulder from a distance of 133.6 million miles. The $2.7 billion Mars mission includes a search for signs of ancient Martian life, sample-collecting and the flight of a helicopter called Ingenuity.
But the imagery from Mars was quickly topped by an even older NASA mission to Jupiter by the Juno space probe, which entered the planets orbit in 2016. It did some very close fly-bys recently that are yielding perhaps the most stunning photos that weve ever seen of the planet.
Color-enhanced by citizen scientists from publicly available NASA data and images, the images show delicately swirling jet streams that look like a painting of quicksilver created by some space-faring artistic genius. I wish I could be riding on Juno myself to see up close the vast cyclones gather and the angry clouds seethe.
It was just a year ago that Juno sent back another image of Jupiter, looking like the best marble ever made, which NASA titled Massive Beauty.
Perhaps the fact that life on Earth feels so precarious at this moment explains, at least in part, why Mr. Bezos and Mr. Musk want to find ways to get off it.
But its important to keep in mind that these two men are just two voices among billions of earthlings. It is incumbent on the rest of us to take more control of how we are going to move into the brave new worlds beyond our own gem of a planet.
We have handed over so much of our fate to so few people over the last decades, especially when it comes to critical technology. As we take tentative steps toward leaving Earth, it feels like we are continuing to place too much of our trust in the hands of tech titans.
Think about it: We the people invented the internet, and the tech moguls pretty much own it. And we the people invented space travel, and it now looks as if the moguls could own that, too.
Lets hope not. NASA, and other government space agencies around the world, need our continued support to increase space exploration.
I get that we have enormous needs on this planet, and money put toward space travel could instead be spent on improving lives here on Earth. But the risk to our planet from climate change means we have to think much bigger.
Keep in mind a hidden message that NASA engineers put onto the descent parachute of the Perseverance rover. The colors on the chute were a binary code that translates into Dare mighty things.
Coming from across the vast and empty universe, it was a message not meant just for Mr. Bezos and Mr. Musk. It was actually meant for all of us.
