Among Us, Counter-Strike and Cyberpunk 2077 top Steam’s list of top-played games in 2020 – TechRadar

Posted: December 29, 2020 at 12:39 am

Topping the Valve Steams Best of 2020 list are the usual suspects like Destiny 2, Counter-Strike, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Terraria, but there are a surprising number of newcomers like Among Us and Cyberpunk 2077 that were released just a few weeks back.

Like clockwork each year, Valve releases its list of the top-played games of the year on Steam - sorted by how many concurrent players each game had.

Each of these games had over 200,000 concurrent players at their peak with Cyberpunk 2077 reaching a record high of 1,054,388 players on December 12.

While you could certainly look at lists of the best games of the year (including our Game of the Year 2020 list) to find out what was new and hot in 2020, best-selling lists like the one Steam provides each year gives us the clearest picture of what gamers have been buying and playing for the last few months.

Here's a complete list of the top 10 most-played games:

Sales data is interesting on its own, but it can paint a larger picture for us - for example, the number of concurrent players is a good indicator of active online communities and the more active an online community is, the easier it will be to find multiplayer matches.

Looking at the list, all but one of the games were released more than one year ago - i.e. despite this being a list of 2020's most played games, gamers are mostly still playing older games. Why? Well, some of these games are free-to-play, others are fairly cheap, but all of them offer a fair amount of content to explore.

Take, for example, Grand Theft Auto 5 that remains popular seven years after its initial release thanks to updates and fresh Grand Theft Auto Online content, or Destiny 2 that has loads of multiplayer modes.

What's the moral here? If you need something new to play and you want it to last you awhile, Steams most popular list could be a good place to start looking - even if it looks like most of the games are few years old.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Character Build That Will Make V Unkillable – Screen Rant

Posted: at 12:39 am

This Cyberpunk 2077 character build will turn V into an unstoppable killing machine by abusing the Cold Blood perk. Here's how to do it.

The attribute and perk system in Cyberpunk 2077lets players become anything fromcyber ninjastounparalleled hackers fluent in the art of sabotage. CD Projekt Red's near-future role-playing game lets users mix and match their favorite skills and abilities to shape the protagonist - V's -capabilities however they'd like. However, there's one way players can make aCyberpunk 2077character build that is basically unkillable.

Gamers can let their imagination run wild and specialize in a single attribute or try and build a well-rounded Cyberpunkcharacter that can do a little bit of everything. Butmastering the "Cold Blood" perk inCyberpunk 2077can transform V into an unkillable death machine that can sliceor blast their way through hordes of enemies without breaking a sweat.

The "Cold Blood" perk is found under the "Cool" attribute menu in Cyberpunk 2077and provides V with a number of passive effects that can stackeach timeV successfullykills an enemy. It can give V everything from a momentary movement speed boost to a majorbuff to her chance to land a critical strike for a few seconds. The best part about that is that Cold Blood can stack up to five times when it's maxed out, granting V a fivefold increase in strength and defenses.

Building into Cold Blood can be complimented by then using any remaining attribute and perk points on the "Reflexes" and "Body" skill trees, which improve V's proficiency with every weapon in the game and her overall survivability. Ideally,Cyberpunk players will want to focus on boosting their skills with three weapons archtypes to make the most of the ammo they loot throughout Night City.

At level 50 players' skill tree should look like the list below. This includes the 22 points players allocate when creating their version of V and the 50 extra points earned through playing Cyberpunk 2077s campaign and reaching the highest level.

Gamers will want nearly every perk from the Cold Blood skill tree aside from "Rapid Bloodflow," "Quick Transfer," and "Blood Brawl" if they've chosen a gunslingingCyberpunk 2077character build over a melee-focused character. From there, depending on players' preferred weapon they should skill into "Assault," "Handguns," and "Annihilation" to buff the damage dealt by pistols, rifles, submachine guns, and shotguns. This will make it easier to build five stacks of Cold Blood quickly, which essentially turns V into a cybernetic Rambo.

That being said, this Cyberpunk 2077characterbuild has some weaknesses against single-enemy battles, like the Cyberpsychomini boss fightsfound throughout Night City, sincemany of those missions don't include weaker enemies to build Cold Blood from. Secondly, even though the Cool attribute also boostsV's stealth capabilities it's best to run headlong at enemies, since the Cold Blood buff has a timer. The same goes for trying to hackor sabotage enemies. Cold Blood benefits from unbridled aggression that might seem foolish at times, but allows V to snowball into an unstoppable killing machine.

How to transfer your Cyberpunk 2077 save from Xbox One to Xbox Series X – Digital Trends

Posted: at 12:39 am

Now that many of you have started getting your hands on Microsofts new Xbox Series X|S console, you might want to migrate your saves from Xbox One. Specifically, if you started playing Cyberpunk 2077 on any Xbox One console, whether an original model, the S, or the X, youre able to move that save to your fancy new Xbox Series X along with the game itself, thanks to a couple of nifty features.

The process is simple enough, and in this handy guide, well show you exactly how to move your Cyberpunk 2077 save from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S.

Recommended reading:

Thanks to Microsofts network transfer function, you can easily move your Cyberpunk 2077 save from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S via the internet. To do so, you need to have both your Xbox One and Xbox Series X set up on the same Wi-Fi network. We recommend having both systems connected in the same area to make things as easy as possible. Then, you can easily swap HDMI cables to move from one system to another. (Or if you have the room, hook up both systems to a monitor with multiple HDMI ports.)

Start by navigating to the My games & apps option on the main menu of your Xbox One. Then, go all the way down to Manage, and under the Settings header, select Network Transfer. From here, youll be able to check Allow network transfer. Its also recommended to update your Xbox One to the latest firmware so its compatible with the Xbox Series X|S.

Then, once the Allow network transfer is checked, boot up your Xbox Series X|S and navigate back to the My games & apps section menu from the dashboard. Again, head back to Manage > Network transfer, and this time, when you navigate to this menu, youll see the name of your Xbox One console under Local consoles.

Choose the Xbox One and youll be taken to a list of all the Xbox One games available to copy, including their installations and saves.

Select the game(s) youd like to move in this case, Cyberpunk 2077 and then click on Copy selected.

The system will then notify you that you are about to copy X game from [Xbox One name] to Internal. Select Copy once more and itll be copied to your Xbox Series X|S via the internet. Keep in mind, the more you transfer, the longer it will take. Its best to do this with an Ethernet cable to ensure it transfers faster.

The one thing to note is that when you boot up Cyberpunk 2077, you may need to manually load the most recent save instead of using the Continue function.

The easiest and most efficient method of moving your save over from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S is to use an external USB drive. If youre looking to move your save and/or installations over, simply plug in your USB stick (make sure its 3.0) and head back into the My games & appsmenu once again from your Xbox One.

Then, find Cyberpunk 2077 and click the Menu button on your controller, followed by the Manage game and add-ons option. After that, select the save data and press Move or copy to move it to the USB stick. Keep in mind, youll need to format the USB drive to work with the Xbox systems. This prompt will appear once you plug in the drive to your Xbox for the first time. Once its formatted, you wont be able to use the drive with other non-Xbox devices.

After youve moved your Cyberpunk 2077 data over to the drive, you can plug it into your Xbox Series X|S. Then, head into Settings from the dashboard and navigate down to System, followed by Storage. Here, youll see your internal memory, as well as the external device. Select the external device (which is found below the internal one), and select Move or copy.

Pick Cyberpunk 2077, and it will copy all the data, including the entire installation file from the external drive to the internal drive. Youll notice it will copy much faster using this method than if you attempted to do it over the internet even if youre plugged in via an Ethernet cable.

After its finished copying, boot up Cyberpunk 2077 and again, manually load the save file you want to use since the game might not prompt you to continue.

How to hack in Cyberpunk 2077 – Digital Trends

Posted: at 12:39 am

The way you build your character inCyberpunk 2077determines a lot about how you interact with the world. You can choose to focus on being a run-and-gun style killer who bursts into a room full of enemies guns blazing, or go the sneaky route and complete your missions without taking a single life. Hacking is a skill you will want to learn early on no matter how you want to play. It opens up a ton of options, as well as being one of the most lucrative and quick ways to earn some Eurodollars in Night City. Dont worry if youre not a computer wizard in real life. Hacking inCyberpunk 2077isnt as complex as that, but it does still have some intricacies youd do well to learn before loading up your first Breach Protocol. Heres our full diagnostic on how to hack inCyberpunk 2077.

Hacking inCyberpunk 2077can be broken down into two categories: Quickhacking and Breach Protocols. These each function differently, but do share a few similarities. First is that scanning is your best friend. Anything in the world that you can hack will show up with a quick scan of the environment. Youll see doors, cameras, access points, and even people that you can hack for different effects that will make your life easier. Similar to the detective vision in other games, this is a tool youll want to be using at all times to get the best view of the situation.

Quickhacking can be done after scanning a hackable object or enemy and is limited by your characters RAM. You can, and should, upgrade this at Ripperdocs so you can give yourself the biggest edge in any situation before anything goes sideways.

Breach Protocols are done to hack into access points. These can be things like antennas and laptops and have a mini-game associated with them. This makes them more difficult than a Quickhack, but success will give you much better rewards.

Quickhacking will require you to have a Cyberdeck installed. The better the Cyberdeck, the more RAM you get to perform even more hacks. Quickhacks are primarily good for distraction purposes. After scanning an area youll have the option to take control of the security camera systems, distract guards, and even screw with any Cyberware they have. Some hacks can be lethal, so consider what you want to that unsuspecting guard if youre trying to stay non-lethal.

Your hacking options for whatever youre targeting will be listed on the left side of the screen, as well as the required RAM to perform that hack. Any options highlighted in red cant be done either due to lack of remaining RAM or if that option has already been done. If you dont know what one of the Quickhack options means, you can see a description by tabbing over to the Hacking menu on the right side for a full list. The right side of the screen will also show you relevant data to your hacking target. You can see, for example, what type of character they are, what group theyre affiliated with, a list of abilities, and what they are weak to.

Once you pick your target and hack of choice, just select it and watch the results.

This is the real hacking inCyberpunk 2077. You will need a high enough intelligence level to even attempt this type of hack on certain Access Points, as well as get physically close enough to jack into the device. The upside to this type of hacking is that any hack you do on an Access Point will impact allthe enemies in an area rather than a single target like Quickhacking. You can spot an Access Point when scanning by looking for the little network icon in the area. You can also unlock a Ping Quickhack to find the Access Point if you use it on a person or object connected to the network.

Once you find an Access Point, with a high enough level of intelligence to hack it, you will plug yourself in and start the mini-game. This screen can look quite overwhelming at first, but once you know what youre looking at, becomes a lot more manageable. You have your time limit at the top left, the Code Matrix right below that, a Buffer meter on the upper right, and the different sequences youre trying to match, plus their effects, on the right. You can, and should, fill in multiple sequences at once to trigger multiple rewards.

Now, on to the hacking itself. What youre attempting to do is match the code found on the sequences on the right from left to right. However, you can only choose codes in an alternating order of rows and columns in the Code Matrix. For example, if you pick the top right option in the matrix, in this case, 8D, the next option you can pick can only be in the far right column. In the image above, that would lock me out of the bottom sequence because the only codes available in that right column are 8D and 55 while that sequence would need 1C. That means you need to plan ahead to know which code you should pick to make sure you have the option for the next one in the sequence in the following row or column.

Every code you pick will take up one of the slots in the Buffer section. You will only have that many codes to select before either completing one or more sequences or the hack will fail. This is another upgrade option available from Ripperdocs you should invest in.

One thing that can make Breach Protocols a little easier is to take a second to highlight the sequence youre going for on the right. This will highlight all the codes in the matrix that fit the sequence so you can quickly plot out what order to select the codes in. Also, if things are going poorly, you can always back out of a Breach Protocol and start over from scratch, only with less time on the clock. Just be aware that all Breach Protocols are randomized each time so you cant completely cheese the system this way.

WW3: Iran’s CHILLING warning to Donald Trump and Israel amid skyrocketing Gulf tensions – Daily Express

Posted: at 12:38 am

Iran: MPs chant in Parliament after passing nuclear bill

The nations foreign ministry spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, spoke following unconfirmed reports of an Israeli submarine crossing the Suez Canal and heading for the Gulf. It also comes a week after the US Navy announced the deployment of nuclear submarine USS Georgia to the region, which passed through the Strait of Hormuz in a show of strength.

The strait is the only sea passage connecting the Persian Gulf to the open ocean, making it one of the world's most strategically important choke points.

According to Agence France-Presse, on Monday, Mr Khatibzade told reporters: Everyone knows what the Persian Gulf signifies for Iran.

Everyone knows the policies [of Tehran] regarding security and national security.

Everyone knows very well how high the risk is raised if the red lines of Iran are crossed.

Tehran believes Israel is responsible for the assassination of nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh last month, among other operations.

Long-standing tensions between Washington and Tehran intensified in 2018 when President Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal.

Mr Trump accused Iran of being involved in a rocket attack on the US embassy in Baghdad last week ahead of the first anniversary of the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, one of the nations leading military commanders.

Soleimani was killed by a Donald Trump ordered airstrike on January 3 at around 1am in Baghdad, Iraq.

The Pentagon said the mission was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans.

Mr Khatibzadeh added: "We have sent messages to the US government and our friends in the region (warning) the current US regime not to embark on a new adventure in its final days at the White House.

On Friday, as reported by Tasnim News, Brigadier General Mohammad Hejazi, deputy chief of the IRGC Quds Force, said Iran plans a harsh revenge for Soleimanis killing.

General Hejazi, echoing Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said retaliatory missile attacks on the US military base of Ain al-Assad, Iraq were slaps in the face.

These strikes left more than 100 US troops with traumatic brain injuries.

Khamenei, who this month met with Soleimanis family, said: Those who ordered the murder of General Soleimani as well as those who carried this out should be punished.

This revenge will certainly happen at the right time.

Mr Trump spoke of the rocket attacks on the US embassy in Baghdad on Twitter.

He claimed: Our embassy in Baghdad got hit Sunday by several rockets.

Guess where they came from: IRAN.

Now we hear chatter about additional attacks against Americans in Iraq Some friendly health advice to Iran: If one American is killed, I will hold Iran responsible. Think it over.

An Iraqi military statement said an an outlawed group was behind the attack.

The US withdrew staff from the Baghdad embassy earlier this month ahead of the first anniversary of the Soleimani airstrike in a precautionary move.

CS Soapbox: THAT WW84 Cameo and What it Might Mean for WW3

Wonder Woman 1984 is a strange movie. Not a bad movie, mind you, just a strange one. Of all the directions Patty Jenkins and Co. could have taken Diana, the most badass of badass Amazonians, they decided to throw her in the middle of a wacky wishing stone plot ripped straight from that Hawaiian episode of The Brady Bunch. No matter. The film is destined to make lots of money with over 50% of HBO Max users having already watched the film on Christmas Day. Regardless of audience reaction -which as it stands appears quite polarizing- Warner Bros. saw fit to immediately fast track a third film to be written and directed by Jenkins.

Clearly, Jenkins (in Joker voice) has plans for Diana, particularly considering that post-credit cameo that saw the OG Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter (who played Diana in the Wonder Woman TV series that ran from 1975-79) emerge as the mysterious Asteria.

Will WW3 see Diana square off against Lynda Carter? Will it be set in the 90s? Will Steve Trevor return, again? Were here to run through what we know about the film so far and offer our oh-so-important insight as to what we think might happen. Read!

RELATED:Patty Jenkins Gives an Update on Wonder Woman 3 and the Amazons Spinoff

Midway through WW84, a quasi-reincarnated Steve Trevor bumps into some golden armor Diana has stowed in the corner of her apartment. The scene raises several questions, the least of which is: why the hell does Diana have legendary golden armor stashed in the corner of her apartment? (Answer: because she needs it for the finale duh!) And, where did this armor come from?

As it turns out, the armor once belonged to the powerful Amazonian Asteria, who used it to hold off a bunch of no good rotten men so that her sisters could escape endless cat calls and flee to Themyscira. Diana explains that Asteria was presumed dead after her momentous stand and possibly left naked somewhere since her armor was found sans body which led the Amazonians with one nay, two tall tasks: build a statue and hold a bunch of Olympic-style games in her honor.

Heres the twist: Asteria isnt dead at all so, f**k that statue! In fact, shes very much alive and perfectly content wandering the world adorned in a blue poncho discreetly saving people at random. Asteria clearly knows shes the sh*t as evidenced by her overtly theatrical turn-and-pose-for-the-camera, but questions remain: How is Asteria alive? Is she good or bad? And why is she 70?

Note: Asteria only appears twice in the Wonder Woman comics and has a complicated relationship with Zeus in Greek mythology. Though, none of these sources will do much to help us understand the character Lynda Carter is portraying.

Word on the street is Patty Jenkins has two more Wonder Woman stories already mapped out in her brain. The story continues after this in movies that I may or may not direct, the director told EW, but I have two more stories that become the completion of this story and its all about women stepping in as women, in the most loving, kind, pure and natural way. And making a difference in the world without having to change who they are to do it.

So, since she included Carters cameo at the end of WW84, and seeing how the new movie is basically one giant homage to the original TV series right down to Pedro Pascals decidedly, ah, campy villain, one might surmise that Jenkins plans include Asteria/Carter in some way shape or form in future installments.

In all likelihood it will probably be an extended cameo. You know, one of those moments where the writers are stuck the heroes are stuck and need some answers? Diana will turn to the camera and say, I know someone who can help. Then we cut to a no good rotten man stealing a purse from a woman, after which a mysterious figure steps forward, knocks him down with ease and says, (Something witty) before tossing the purse back to the woman and winking at a suddenly inspired young girl sitting nearby. Diana will say (Something witty) off camera, Asteria will turn to see Diana, smile and embrace her friend while Steve Trevor (who is somehow brought back from the dead again) stands idly by looking completely dumbfounded. I thought she was dead, he will proclaim like an idiot. Then, well get an expository dump revealing how Asteria escaped her fate and blah, blah, blah End scene.

Or, maybe Jenkins will take a different angle and make Asteria the villain, which could set up a unique story in which Diana learns some hard truths about the Amazonians, her mother and her place in the universe a story that could tie into Jenkins planned Amazonians spinoff! Nah. Itll be a cameo.

RELATED: Wonder Woman 3 Fast Tracked at Warner Bros. Pictures!

What we do know about Wonder Woman Trois is that WB is perfectly comfortable with the tone established in WW84. Which means were likely to get something more on par with that horrible mall sequence in which Diana fights off a trio of bumbling, Home Alone-esque villains than any of the badass bits of Diana going toe-to-toe against beings from other planets as seen in Batman v Superman or the upcoming Zack Snyders Justice League Cut of Joss Whedons Justice League Snyder. To each their own.

The film could also further explore Cat-ra Cheetah, who was last seen seemingly bereft of her powers sulking into the camera at the end of WW84. In the comics Cheetah basically serves as Dianas Joker, and since WW84 basically eschewed any and all comic book-inspired versions of the character, there are more than enough unique stories the threequel could tackle.

Or and this is a bit of a stretch since rumors abound that Chris Pine may return for the all-star Flash movie, its possible Steve Trevor is actually brought into the modern world for good this time so we can have funny montages of him figuring out cell phones whilst avoiding any conversations revolving around what it was like to be dead, what it feels like to walk in someone elses skin, etc. What would a Wonder Woman movie be without Steve Trevor, amirite?

Of course, if Jenkins wants to remain faithful to the TV show, she could always adapt one of the series many outlandish plotlines. Theres one in which Diana must take down a crazed Disco psychic, another where she battles a businessman looking to take control of the skateboarding industry, and yet another where she fights a giant gorilla. Sure, the plotlines sound ridiculous, but if I wrote Diana takes on an oil tycoon corrupted by a powerful wishing stone, youd probably think that sounded stupid too.

In all seriousness, WW84s characterization of Diana veers much closer to Lynda Carters portrayal of the heroine than Zack Snyders. Thats not a criticism, just an observation. In the TV series, Diana was a plucky superheroine who looked out for the little guy and used her powers to do more than just pummel bad guys to death mainly due to budget limitations, but still, you get the gist.

In WW84, Jenkins has pushed Diana further away from Snyders initial depiction of the character, and Carters involvement likely cements this current direction moving forward, regardless of where Snyders Justice League takes her. Couple that with WBs upcoming slate of films, namely Shazam 2 (featuring Sinbad!), Black Adam (featuring the Rock!), Aquaman 2 (featuring, uh, Amber Heard!) and James Gunns The Suicide Squad (featuring King Shark!) and it seems WB is keen to replicate Marvels lighthearted tone over Snyders apocalyptic, metal-heavy style at least in terms of its shared universe.

Whether you believe this is the right course for the studio depends on just how excited you were to see Lynda Carter in that blue poncho.

Gal Gadot Thinks WW3 Should Be Set In The Present – LRM Online

Posted: at 12:38 am

Should WW3 be set in the present?

WW84 is finally upon us! Sure its had some bumps along the way. From release date conflicts to platform release styles, they stuck to their guns and will meet the December 25 release! Whether you are team stream + theater or not, the world will see what type of response comes from the release of the hopeful blockbuster, WW84. MTV Newss Josh Horowitz was able to sit down with Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, for an interview regarding the new film. Of course, what type of an interview would it be if we didnt take the opportunity to ask about a possible sequel to a film that has not been released yet? While it is brief, she does express the time period she thinks WW3 should take place in.

I would suggest watching the entire interview, but around the 7:50 mark, Gadot briefly discusses WW3. When asked about the time period she thinks a third installment should be set in, she reveals that the present is the way to go. With the first film taking place during WWI in 1918 and the sequel in 1984, Gadot feels as if the past has been accurately represented. She goes on to say that going into the 40s or 60s doesnt need to be covered due to already focusing on the past.

I agree with this. The two stand-alone films provides fans with the blanks that we had from the picture we saw in BvS through Justice League. Now with that timespan covered, her history, and some villains are established. Also, this provides a progression of her story now moving forward. This could also lead to a more fluid, possible incorporation in other DC films. One of those that Horowitz asked about is Black Adam since Gadot is working on another film with The Rock. In true Gadot fashion, she suggests that anything is possible, but doesnt want to discuss it. She feels The Rock should be the primary focus for his film. Therefore Gadot doesnt want to possibly steal some of Rocks thunder talking about guest appearances.

In the interview, Gadot also discusses her close friendship with Patty Jenkins, forming a relationship with Kristen Wiig, working with Chris Pine with the 80s theme, and her WW84 costumes. She also briefly discusses her military experience, gravitating towards strong female characters, and other upcoming projects.

What do you think? Should WW3 take place in the present, or would you rather see a different time period? Are you pumped for WW84? What platform will you be viewing the film? Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!

New Declaration of Independence for NH Read, Signed, & Delivered in Concord by Crowd of Revolutionaries – Free Keene

Crowd of Revolutionaries Gathered Monday to Read and Sign the new Declaration of Independence for 2020.

In Concord on Monday December 21st of 2020 at ten a.m., a group of over one hundred people from across New Hampshire gathered at the now-closed state house steps to invoke their Right of Revolution as specified in Article Ten of the Bill of Rights of the NH Constitution. It states:

Government being instituted for the common benefit, protection, and security, of the whole community, and not for the private interest or emolument of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, whenever the ends of government are perverted, and public liberty manifestly endangered, and all other means of redress are ineffectual, the people may, and of right ought to reform the old, or establish a new government. The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.

Dan Richard of the New Hampshire Committee of Safety led the event and read aloud a new Declaration of Independence, which you can download a PDF of here. Richard says this is the first time the Right of Revolution has been invoked and that the document serves as a termination of the state and its various office holders.

Dan Richard of the NH Committee of Safety at COSNH.com

It calls out the state bureaucracys endless harassment of the people as well as the standing armies of enforcement agents enacting the tyranny, and the now-secret courts. The new Declaration states that effective means for redress of grievances have been abolished and that, Our form of government, has become a complete system of tyranny. The Same party is the legislator, the accuser, the judge, and the executioner by declaring themselves invested with power to legislate in secret in all cases whatsoever.

Citing NHs Article Ten, the new Declaration dissolves all political connections between the state and the citizenry, absolving us of any allegiance to the state.

The crowd of revolutionaries then shouted YOURE FIRED! in unison and signed the new Declaration of Independence for New Hampshire.

Afterwards, a copy was delivered to the Secretary of States office and the Attorney Generals office. It was subsequently served on governor Chris Sununu hiding in his home on Christmas Eve. Heres video of Mondays visit to the state house and AGs office including nearly all of the reading of the new Declaration of Independence. I missed the first few paragraphs due to a dead camera battery:

Kudos to the heroic folks who came out to end the failed experiment of the New Hampshire government.

DeLillo delves into the mysteries at the heart of late capitalism – Sydney Morning Herald

Posted: at 12:36 am

Our Manhattan trio are enjoying the Super Bowl on TV when the power mysteriously disappears, disrupting not only the match but the plane conveying their expected guests (happily, Jim and Tessa survive, duly arriving at the party).

The cause of the disturbance is opaque: Germ warfare? Cryptocurrency? [A] selective internet apocalypse?

Is this, Diane asks, the casual embrace that marks the fall of world civilisation? The casual embrace: a very particular phrasing (then again, all of DeLillo is a particular phrasing) suggesting the incomprehensibility of failure itself, particularly in its late-capitalist American iteration. Systems are collapsing, but we are so enveloped in them we cannot perceive it even if we did, we probably wouldnt know what to do about it.

In this, as ever, DeLillos subject remains the same: the search for lost systems in the crux of everyday life. Like Bret Easton Ellis, underneath all the hip contemporaneity, a curiously old-fashioned humanism is discernible, seeking out organising principles (football in End Zone, maths in Ratners Star).

The only true north lies in modernitys aggregate detail, which DeLillo remains adept at cataloguing (plane conversation is described as an automated process, remarks generated by the nature of airline travel itself; you wonder sometimes if DeLillo carries a notebook scribbled black with these kind of riffs his modernity stanzas, his late-capitalist couplets).

In the original galley copies of The Silence, a stray line about COVID-19 found its way in, smuggled by a rogue editor. Apparently, someone hoped to make the book seem more contemporary (DeLillo excised the offending reference).

Whoever it was would have been better off picking up the occasional infelicities that were left behind. At page 39, Tessa reflects of Jims occupation, Why was this so reassuring?; 10 pages later, Diane looks at a blank screen and thinks, She could not understand why this was reassuring to her.

One thing is clear: it is not reassuring to the reader.

There is a recurrent tendency in late-period DeLillo to invoke such rhetorical questions. They are typified by a distressing banality: What happens to people who live inside their phones?; All our lives, all this looking. People looking. But seeing what? It is a tic that hardly appears in the early work. Unfortunately, it afflicts his more recent novels with discouraging frequency, like some poor guest being repeatedly trotted out on Q&A.

When the novelist loses his talent, he dies democratically, there it is for everyone to see [...] the shitpile of hopeless prose. This is Bill Gray in Mao II, running from his own failed novel. Thankfully, DeLillo is not Gray not yet. His power isnt diminished, exactly (the strength of language remains irrepressible); but it does feel straitened, zen koanic to the point of vanishing.

How does DeLillo feel about all this? For more than 20 years, he has been saddled with the accusation of not producing anything to rival Underworld, his magnum opus, despite the myriad global cataclysms that have occurred since 1997 (many of which felt tailor-made for DeLillos brand of zeitgeist cartography). The Silence could almost be read as a cheeky shout out to James Wood, who in 2000 wrote: There are many enemies, seen and unseen, in Underworld, but silence is not one of them.

This critic (he doubts he is alone) yearns to wield such power over an authors output. Trapped in the rooted procedure, the glittering paranoias and anxieties of modernity, DeLillo can only travel hermetically inward.
