The Science Behind Control: Multiverse Chaos – Fiction Talk

Posted: at 10:34 am

The Control we will look at is the 2019 science-fiction video game by Remedy. This visually striking game has won several awards since release. It is also the game with the best art direction for us at FictionTalk. Control is just as weird as Alan Wake and Quantum Break and features some out-of-the-world concepts and ideas, literally. One of them being a different universe converging with ours.

So, lets try and compare the science in Control with what we have in reality, even though much of it is in theory, for now at least.

We play as Jesse Faden, who enters a government agency called the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) in search of her brother. This agency is in a building called The Oldest House. Once she reaches the Directors office, all manner of bizarre events start taking place.

We find the Director to have committed suicide and take his gun called the Service Weapon. This gun can shapeshift, that is, it can become a pistol, shotgun, sniper, etc. We also find that the Oldest House can shapeshift too and it has been invaded by an alien zombie-like race, which we name, The Hiss. Now, how did they even get here?

In the world of Control, normal items such as our gun, papers, electronics, rocks, or even slide projectors are capable of surreal functions. The slide projector, for instance, can open slides that act as portals to different dimensions. Thats how the Hiss entered into the Oldest House. Now, the important distinction here is, the game says different dimensions but it is different universe/s.

When we say dimensions, we mean the 3 spatial dimensions of length, width, and height. The fourth dimension being time. So, dimensions arent exactly places to be in. Control has The Hiss coming in from their universe or reality. Consider the Upside-Down from Stranger Things.

Many scientists believe in the theory that parallel/multiple universes exist alongside our own. This is called the Multiverse theory. This theory has various interpretations, you could say. The main theory (Multiverse) states that there are multiple universes and each universe contains everything in existence, from energy to information. It was thought of since the times of ancient Greece as Atomism, a branch of philosophy. It was later expanded by prominent physicists and so far we have 9 types of Multiverses theorized.

Another theory, the many-worlds interpretation, says that nearly infinite universes exist living out every possible outcome like superposition.

Then we have String Theory, a theory that uses concepts of particle physics, quantum mechanics, gravity etc to build its framework. In String Theory, zero-dimensional particles (no space occupied) are replaced by one-dimensional particles named strings. Also, String Theory assumes that there are 11 dimensions instead of 4.

In Control, the Astral Plane is similar to the Multiverse. A realm outside ours but connected regardless. These areas are accessed through portals, one such as that of the slide projector. If theres a high concentration of energy into a small space, it can create portals. The slide projector from the game is also an object of immense power. Also, the slide projector in the game only has one remaining slide due to other slides being destroyed. It is plausible that the other slides could have opened portals to different universes.

The many-worlds interpretation is similar to the time loop that we get stuck into towards to end of the game. Near infinite possibilities played over again and again.

Jesse, the more she interacts with these otherworldly objects, gains more supernatural powers. The ability to throw objects with her mind, float in the air, dash, etc. This is where dimensions may play a part. It is believed that there may truly be more dimensions, its just that our brain cant perceive them. In the game, it could be that Jesse gains powers through these objects ability to render her perceptions. The Hiss can do it too.

Perhaps it could be the Resonance called Polaris. The Polaris is an entity that helps Jesse in the game and it resides in her mind. The duo of Jesse and Polaris is similar to that of the Phoenix Force and Jean Grey from X-Men. Polaris can manipulate objects to the atomic, wavelength, vibration, frequency levels. In real life, the largest machine of this world, The Large Hadron Collider can accelerate protons at such speeds that it can study matter at its tiniest. Of course, converting the power of the worlds largest machine to a mind is pure science-fiction.

We can also fast travel in Control via teleportation. As of now, we also have various types of teleportation. One of which is transferring information from one place to another. By using the principles of quantum entanglement, this info based teleportation has already been achieved albeit on a very minor scale. Human teleportation is not possible but information can be a start.

We are making bits of progress towards The Theory of Everything.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness All The Leaks & News You Should Know And This Time Magic W … – Pop Culture Times

The Marvel Universe keeps expanding, and now, we have the sequel to the 2016 Doctor Strange movie right at our tips.

This movie is going to be the fourth movie in phase 4. It is going to release on May 7th, 2021.

However, we have the coronavirus outbreak shutting down productions, and due to that, we see a shift in Black Widows release date, which is going to come out by the end of 2020 now. Therefore, we are expecting to get a new release date for the next Doctor Strange movie, so the videos dont overlap.

We have the brilliant Benedict Cumberbatch reprising in his role as Doctor Strange, and that is no surprise.

However, the most surprising revelation at the comic con regarding the cast of this movie is the introduction of Scarlett Witch in the Doctor Strange sequel. Elizabeth Olsen is officially going to appear as Scarlett Witch in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.

We have a new director on board, Sam Raimi, and therefore, we think the take on Doctor Stranges story is going to be a little different.

It is termed as thefirst scary MCU movie, hinting towards the horror elements we are going to find in the movie.

The events that are going to take place in WandaVision is going to lead Scarlett Witch to Doctor Strange to help him. Along with WandaVision, the TV Show Loki is also going to have a direct link to this Doctor Strange Sequel. And as we know while his training at Kamar Taj, we see Doctor Strange reading the Book of Cagliostro. He also had complete knowledge over the eyes full power. Thus, we are going to see magical dominance take over.

Nightmare Superman: The Scariest Superman Is NOT from Comics – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Posted: at 10:34 am

Nightmare Superman is one of the darkest versions of the Man of Steel ever, and this villain deserves to be part of the main DC Multiverse.

Superman is one of the most optimistic and hopeful figures in the DC multiverse, which makes every evil, antagonistic or other corrupted version of the character all the more frightening. While DC has plenty of evil Supermen from the multiverse who prove the point, one of the most horrifying one of all isn't even from comic book reality.

Instead, this Nightmare Superman hails from Infinite Crisis videogame version of Earth-43. Now, we taking a closer look at who the Nightmare Superman fromInfinite Crisis, and why this terrifying version of the classic hero should make the transition to the comics.

RELATED:DC Just Revealed Who'd Win, Superman or Wonder Woman - and It's BRUTAL

In the current comics version of the DC Multiverse, Earth-43 is home to the Blood League. After being turned into a vampire, Batman spread the vampiric curse to the rest of the Justice League, turning them into bloodthirsty despots of their world.

But in the Infinite Crisis version of Earth-43, Superman avoided this fate and suffered a far worse one. While in Metropolis, numerous portals to the Phantom Zone suddenly ripped through the city. Metropolis was promptly flooded by the broken and corrupted phantoms that had been trapped in the Phantom Zone. To make matters worse, anyone touched by the creatures was corrupted themselves, which only added to the phantom army.

Donning a special suit designed by his father Jor-El to transverse the Phantom Zone unharmed, Superman ventured into the dimension to discover what had happened. He discovers Aethyr, a dark and ancient being that's native to the Phantom Zone. In this universe, the being is recast as something like Cthulhu, a god made of madness that enslaved the numerous souls that had been trapped in the Phantom Zone by the Kryptonians.

RELATED:DCeased: Hope at World's End Gives a Classic Speedster His Sad, Fitting End

Superman battled the creature and had his sanity pushed to the brink by the experience. But in the end, he was able to force the creature to retreat back deep into the Phantom Zone to resume a near-eternal slumber. Superman barely escaped the Phantom Zone before the last of the portals closed. But when he returned, his entire life was changed. His exposure to the Phantom Zone had permanently affected his body, with the energy of the zone flooding his body.

He became weaker physically, but capable of shooting blasts of phantom energy and even briefly creating rifts to the Phantom Zone for various minor uses, such as slowing as pulling an enemy into a minor Vortex or summoning a phantom for a brief moment. He also found himself alone in the ruins of Metropolis, as his battle with Aehtyr had gone too long, and the entire population of Metropolis had been killed and turned into phantoms. Hearing their psychic wails was the breaking point for Superman's sanity, and he goes mad. Superman now wanders the ruins of Metropolis, seeing the world as if it were unchanged. He tries to protect his citizens -- merely the phantoms that roam the streets - from any threat that approaches the city, including innocents he mistakes for villains. And there he remains, Superman, King of the Phantom City.

The Nightmare Superman is a haunting incarnation of the character, a dark and deadly version of the classic superhero who's been turned into one of the most dangerous beings in his universe. He's destructive without realizing it, using his newfound powers for dark reasons without ever even realizing what he's doing. He is Lex Luthor's worst fears about Superman come to life, an accidentally murderous god who lashes out in pain and fury because he knows nothing else. It'd make for a perfectly tragic version of Superman that's still a real threat that needs to be brought down, especially if his powers continued to morph. An alternate skin for the character in-game suggested that his exposure to Aethyr actually changed him into a Harbinger of Madness, and would continue to mutate him into a C'thullu esque being.

This could be a corrupted Superman who spreads madness and death in his path across the multiverse. He also helps give Earth-43 a broader sense of horrors to play with beyond just the vampiric Batman and Robin. He also hints at the continued existence of Aethyr, a minor Pre-Crisis character who briefly appeared inSmallville but has never been treated as fearsome or threatening as it is here. The Nightmare Superman could easily be a denizen of the Dark Multiverse, too. But regardless of his origins, this Superman would truly give the heroes of the core DC Universe a real nightmare.

Doctor Strange 2orDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessis definitely happening despite fans concerns over that one brief moment where it seemed almost as if the Supreme Sorcerer had met his end.

But we knew he would be back again and he did, along with many other heroes we had thought dead, inAvengers: Endgame. In the summer of 2019, Doctor Strange 2was announced to return to the big screen as part of Marvels Phase 4.

Heres everything you want to know about the upcoming highly anticipated movie!

The movie was originally scheduled to be released on May 7, 2021. But it was pushed back November 5, 2021 because of the delay of Black Widowthat affected the release calendar of the entire interconnected universe.

Once again, the release date has been pushed even further to March 25, 2022 after Spider-Man 3 was moved to November 2021.

Filming was originally set to begin in May 2020 but the global pandemic sure has affected production plans but not by too much, hopefully, as the crew is still aiming to begin shooting in June.

Benedict Cumberbatch is definitely confirmed and on board with the sequel. That were sure of! What we arent sure about is Benedict Wongs return for the second movie but most likely, hes onboard too given how hes been talking about filming.

Elizabeth Olsen will appear in the sequel too as Scarlet Witch! This interesting announcement was made at a Comic-Con event. For now, these are the only confirmed cast members.

Derrickson previously said theyd be making the first scary MCU movie, with a horror twist. But now that plan may have changed since he and Marvel have parted ways over creative differences.

In this upcoming movie, Doctor Stephen Strange continues to research on the Time Stone after the events of Endgame. An old friend/turned enemy causes him to unleash evil into the world. Scarlet Witch will appear to help Strange with something. We dont know yet. Stay tuned for further updates!

Death Metal Cements the Tragedy Behind Harley Quinn’s Best Costume – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Posted: at 10:34 am

In Dark Nights: Death Metal, Harley Quinn has a brand new job in the very different DC Universe, but it puts her in a familiar role.

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Dark Nights: Death Metal #1 by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, FCO Plascencia and Tom Napolitano, on sale now.

With its first issue, Dark Knights: Death Metal has thrown readers into the deep end of a very different DC Universe. Thanks to the advance of Perpetua and her destructive power, only a few of DC's infinite Earths remain, and the main DC world is under the complete control of the Batman Who Laughs. This control extends over the entire world with many heroes, like Wonder Woman and Aquaman forces into serving the maniacal Batmen of the Dark Multiverse to protect the remnants of their people.

While some heroes have found themselves in new situations, other heroes have actually seen themselves returned to their former status. For example, Mister Miracle now serves as a prisoner of a Batman-Darkseid/Highfather hybrid named Darkfather on Megapokolips, who isn't the craziest Bat-themed villain to make an appearance in the crossover. Another servant of the Batman Who Laughs is Harley Quinn, who appears at a summoning of his fellow servants. Not much is known about her new place in this twisted world, but her costume reveals Harley's most tragic elements that continue to haunt her.

Related:Harley Quinn Must Face Apokolips' WORST to Save... Los Angeles!?

During this meeting, Harley is seen to be paired with Doctor Arkham, accompanied by a large hyena and a Batman/Man-Bat hybrid. Since she's addressed as the "Hunter of the Wastelands" by the Batman Who Laughs, it appears that Harley has been tasked with locating those who still remain outside of her new master's control within the new continent of the Arkham Wastelands. Along with a nearly shaved head with red and black dyed hair, Harley has a more utilitarian version of her original, constraining jester costume, including its diamonds and red and black color scheme in place of her modern costume, which has an ever-present jacket, short pants, high boots and long, mostly blonde hair in pig-tails.

While it's not emphasized in this issue, this costume change reveals a lot about Harley's place in Death Metal's DCU and how it reflects her past.

Although this costume was Harley's iconic look in her early appearances in Batman: The Animated Series, Harley's original jester outfit is also specific to a certain moment in her history when she was completely enamored with the Joker. This appearance and her origin were literally shaped by the Joker to make her his tool and second fiddle in the many schemes targeted at Batman, unlike his current partner Punchline. Even, in the Harley Quinn animated series, Harley showed her newfound independence by changing her costume from her jester uniform to her new DC Rebirth era outfit.

Related: Batman: How the Joker Drafted Deathstroke Into His 'Joker War' Plan

By returning to a version of this look,Death Metal highlights how much loss of control Harley doesn't have over her own world right now.

An amalgamation of Batman and his greatest enemy, the Batman Who Laughs shares in the Joker's tendency to break those around him, targeting their ideals and beliefs, while also using others as tools in his own twisted games. As seen in this issue, he uses Wonder Woman's love for her sisters as a constant threat to keep her in line. Although the Batman Who Laughs is operating on an entirely different scale than the Joker usually does, their tactics are the same as they reduce all those around them to shells of their greater selves.

Harley has faced this element of her past many times before in her many reunions with the Joker. During the "Death of the Family" event in Suicide Squad #15, by Adam Glass and Fernando Dagino, showed Harley being kidnapped by the Joker ashe responded to her flight for independence. When he locked her in a dungeon, the Joker tortured her with skeletons dressed in her old costumes, saying that they were harlequins that were no longer useful. During this horrific encounter, Harley was forced to battle against the Joker's view of her as nothing more than a tool.

Like other figures in this story, it seems that Harley will not remain a tool for much longer, as she begins to make her own moves in this wasteland. In fact, Harley's newest weapon has already been teasedby Greg Capullo. As she faces a world ruled by a version of Batman emboldened by the Joker's cruelty, Harley will have to overcome the role that the Batman Who Laughs has tried to place her in and embrace her own brand of chaos if she wants to survive the coming destruction that faces the entirety of the DC multiverse.

Loki’s Coolest Secret Was Teased in Thor’s Worst Movie – Screen Rant

Posted: at 10:34 am

The MCU's Loki can use mysterious portals to travel through the Nine Realms - and now Loki's secret has come to the comics as well.

This article contains spoilers forValkyrie: Jane Foster #10.

Loki's coolest secret was teased inThor: The Dark World. Tom Hiddleston's Loki is undoubtedly one of Marvel's greatest successes. The Trickster God is a master manipulator and a gifted sorcerer, a master of deception who delights in confusing his brother with illusions. Although Loki died inAvengers: Infinity War, completing his redemptive arc, he's being brought back into the MCU courtesy of the Multiverse. However, one of Loki's most intriguing abilities has yet to be explained in the MCU.

The firstThor film revealed he knew secret ways to traverse between the Nine Realms, hidden even from Heimdall's gaze. Using these mysterious portals, he had traveled to Jotunheim and launched an insane conspiracy to gain Odin's approval. Later, inThor: The Dark World, Thor was forced to break Loki out of prison in order to access these portals. They were able to escape Asgard without using the Bifrost, allowing Thor to fight for the Nine Realms once again. But just what were these portals?

Related:Avengers: Age of Ultron Foreshadowed Thors Infinity War Failure

Over in the comic side of Marvel, Jason Aaron has finally explained the portals. InValkyrie: Jane Foster #9, Tyr - another of Thor's siblings in the comics - was sent to Valhalla to serve. There, he eavesdropped on the slain and began to scheme. In the old tales of war and conflict, Tyr learned of forgotten magic, secret places, and powerful objects. He discovered how to use the ancient Urdoors, portals between the Nine Realms that had been established by magic lost in the mists of time. Even the eyes of Heimdall - or his comic book replacement Sif - cannot see these doors. The Urdoors allowed Tyr to fashion a plan against Thor, confident his actions could not be discovered.

The latest arc inValkyrie: Jane Foster feels like the spiritual successor ofThor: The Dark World, although frankly much improved. Given that's the case, the Urdoors clearly parallel the portals used by Loki; Aaron has absorbed them into Marvel Comics lore, given them a name, and a hint of an explanation of how they came to be. Of course, it stands to reason the Urdoors must have been forgotten by Asgard; had they been remembered, they would have been guarded.Valkyrie: Jane Foster #10 ends with Tyr defeated, of course, and he is left on the run from All-Father Thor. His story comes to an appropriate conclusion when he is found on Jotunheim by Loki, who promises him sanctuary if he will reveal all the secrets he learned in Valhalla. That means Aaron has now given the comic book version of Loki the same abilities as his MCU iteration.

Of course, in the MCU Loki must have learned of the Urdoors some other way. Curiously, in the MCU only Loki and his adoptive mother Frigga have shown any inclination to use magic; it's possible this is a rarity in the MCU's Asgard, meaning Loki was trained by Frigga but otherwise studied prodigiously to master his talents. If that is the case, he could well have looked through dusty books the Asgardians had forgotten, and thus discovered the secret of the Urdoors.
