Fans Share Which MCU Phase 4 Projects They’re Looking Forward to the Most – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Posted: May 18, 2020 at 3:44 pm

When youve created a franchise as diverse and far-reaching as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you have to be prepared to take some criticism from fans. After all, you cant please everyone.

As the planning for the Marvel Cinematic Universes Phase 4 is well underway, there have been lots of complaints and requests from viewers about what they hope doesnt happen. Whether they are voicing concern that the MCU is about to introduce too many new characters or explaining why they dont want the X-Men brought into the fold, there are lots of vocal critics.

At the same time, there are plenty of MCU fans who are absolutely thrilled about the upcoming Phase 4 projects. With plenty of new material on the horizon, virtually every fan has something to look forward to. Here are the projects theyre most excited about.

RELATED: Existing Avengers Bound to Be Gone By the End of Phase 4

Marvel had announced that its Phase 4 projects would be coming out some time ago, and the schedule was set through 2021. We were supposed to getBlack WidowandThe Eternals in 2020 followed byShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, andThor: Love and Thunder the following year. Tom Hollands Spider-Man film was also supposed to come out in 2021, a collaboration between Marvel and Sony.

Now that filming and production has been disrupted for an indefinite period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fans arent quite sure what to expect. This has pushed projects likeBlack Panther II andCaptain Marvel 2 even further into the future, likely well into 2022. While it might be disappointing to have to wait even longer for these films, it gives plenty of times for fans to build anticipation.

In a Reddit thread about the most anticipated projects,Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesscomes up again and again. Fans are anxious to see Cumberbatch return to the screen as neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange. The director shakeup after Scott Derrickson left the project apparently over creative differences, says Digital Trends has added an extra layer of mystery and suspense to this particular film. Its still not clear who will be taking over, but Sam Raimi has confirmed involvement with the project and looks like the most likely candidate.

Meanwhile, many are excited to seeThor: Love and Thunder. This will be the fourth installment of a solo feature for the character, a first in MCU history. Rumors have been swirling about what to expect, and many believe that Christian Bale is going to make an appearance as an important but currently unnamed character. Fans cant wait to find out more.

Its not just the films that fans cant wait to see. The MCU is also filled with action-packed television shows. The one that fans are most ready to see isWandaVision. Part of what makes the show so highly anticipated is that fans truly have no idea what theyre going to get. After all, Wanda is a heroine who can bend reality, so all bets are off on just what the show will entail.Fans have been anxiously looking for clues about everything from the plot to the cast to the costumes, and there are some signs on the horizon that the project will be fascinating indeed.

Another television series that fans are eagerly awaiting isMs. Marvel. The details surrounding this show are a little sparse, but that hasnt kept fans from getting really excited about the possibilities for the show and the characters eventual crossover into the films. Filming was initially supposed to start in the summer of 2020, but now that everything is pushed back, it will likely be awhile before it gets back on track.

At the end of the day, many fans will be happy to see anything coming soon. With the delays in filming, theyre getting antsy. As one wrote when asked what they were most looking forward to, Anything. This Marvel drought sucks and we have no idea when it will end.

DC: 5 Reasons Why The Arrowverse Should Crossover With The Comics (& 5 Why It Shouldn’t) – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Posted: at 3:44 pm

Here are 5 reasons why a crossover between these two universes should happen and 5 why it really shouldn't.

The Arrowverse has now been in place for some time and is taking on more and more of the ideas that originated from the comic books. While the Earth 1 of the comics of DC is different from Earth Prime of the Arrowverse, there are also a number of similarities.

RELATED:Arrowverse: 5 Times Ruby Rose's Batwoman Was Comics Accurate (& 5 Times She Wasn't)

There are plenty of reasons to want to see a crossover between the versions of the characters in the comics and those on the screen. Here are 5 reasons why a crossover between these two universes should happen and 5 why it really shouldn't.

There's been a lot of focus on the multiverse recently on both the CW and in the print media. Whether it's the Crisis crossover event or perhaps the dark multiverse in the comics, there's been a lot of writing about alternate realities.

Perhaps it's time to give that a rest and focus on the universes that these characters currently inhabit. The multiverse stories lose their originality when they are somany and there should, therefore, be a bit of a break.

There is an argument to make that the next step in the Arrowverse and the normal DC Universe is to have a big crossover. Perhaps all the pieces have been moving around to allow this to happen.

There's been a number of characters for instance that featured on TV but not in the comics and now that the cinematic universes are joined together, the next stage may be to add it all to the comics.

There are a lot of characters that actually conflict withwhat has been seen in the comics. For instance, Green Arrow eventually becoming Spectre is a big departure from the source material.

RELATED:5 Things The Flash Film Should Take From CW Series (& 5 Things They Shouldnt)

Others such as Diggle, seemingly becoming the TV version of John Stewart would also provide a little bit of confusion. Mashing these worlds together is only going to change the continuity even further due to these conflicts.

There could be a number of new faces introduced into the Arrowverse that are present in the comics. There are a couple of obvious ones that are missing from the CW shows so far.

Wonder Woman and Aquaman are especially absent, as is the original version of Batman. Perhaps this crossover could be a way to introduce some of these trinity members and the King of the seas.

These two universes are extremely different from one another. One has a proper version of the Justice League for instance, while the other has a team of Legends made up of criminals and misfits.

They are different in terms of their geography, the teams of characters, and even the relationships. Perhaps these universes are too different to really co-exist with one another and could cause a number of strange conflicts.

There are a number of comparisons between the universes that may be really interesting to make. The costumes and relationships aside, the way in which these universes have taken theirjourneyshas been very different.

RELATED:Arrowverse: 5 Times Stephen Amell's Green Arrow Was Comics Accurate (& 5 Times He Wasn't)

While one universe has been developing for many decades and has been rebooted multiple times, the other is still in its relative infancy, only just starting to resemble the comics on which it is based.

The comics and the Arrowverse are designed for two very different types of audiences. The CW tends to aim towards a certain age group, usually teenagers to young adults.

The comics have a much larger range of fans, although many have followed the DC Universe for many years, while some Arrowverse watchers are new to the brand. Perhaps this vast audience can't all be pleased with this kind of crossover.

Sometimes change is good and this could be an incredibly fun change of pace for the heroes and villains of both versions of the universe. For instance, Supergirl and Flash taking on Starro would be incredible to see.

In the same way, the Justice League meeting up with the Legends, or perhaps the Black Canary meeting White Canary for the first time, could be a fun way to change up the status quo.

If there is going to be an ongoing comic title about a crossover between the realities, it would have to take place when the shows were not currently on TV. It would be near impossible to try to keep up with the shows.

With so many each week it would be confusing in terms of continuity to have both happening at the same time. Perhaps logistically it is actually far too difficult to pull off.

There's never really been a crossover between a TV universe and a comic book universe before. While they may inspire one another, these versions of characters don't often meet.

There are some examples to, of course, go against that, but on this scale, the idea is actually quite novel. DC would, therefore, stand out for pulling off a crossover event like this.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been delayed to November 2021 – D1SoftballNews.com

Posted: at 3:44 pm

Disney has pushed back again the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to the pandemic of sars coronavirus. Initially expected in may 2021, the launch of the film has been previously deferred to November 5, 2021, and then, it is now postponed to march 25, 2022.

The film, which will be directed by Sam Raimi, will see the appearance of Benedict Cumberbatch, the interpreter of the Sorcerer Supreme. He will share the poster of the film with Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor who are also going to re-enlist. In addition, Elizabeth Olsen has also been asked to take over the role of the Red Witch.

Disney has also been taken to change the release date of Thor: Love and Thunder, the film by Taika Waititi, but unlike other films, the sequel of Thor has been advanced one week. If the fans were waiting for him on the 18th of February 2022, they will learn about the February 11, 2022. Currently on tour promoting his new movie Extract, Chris Hemsworth, the face of the current heroes on the big screen, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the new Thor is : one of the best scripts Ive read in years. This is Taika at its most extreme and at its best. If the version that I read is that were going to play, its going to be pretty crazy.

Because of those changes of dates, Disney has had to remove a movie from its calendar. In fact, a film in live-action, whose title has not been released yet was scheduled for the 25 march 2022, but is no longer in the program. Another of 20th Century Fox, which has no title, expected on April 8, 2022, has also been abandoned. The month of April is now booked in to a film in live-action Disney and the release of the film event, which has no title, has been fixed at July 9, 2021.

Marvel: 5 Reasons Why The Comics Should Crossover With The MCU (& 5 Why They Shouldn’t) – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Posted: at 3:44 pm

Marvel comics and the MCU have remained mostly separated up until this point, but there are some reasons why that should, and shouldn't happen.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe obviously takes a huge amount of inspiration from the source material, and indeed there have been comics based on this ever-expanding world of on-screen characters.

RELATED:3 Things The MCU Gets Right About Iron Man ( & 7 It Doesn't)

However, there's never been a crossover between the Earth 616 that has been created in the comics and the version of Earth in the MCU. Here are five reasons why a crossover like that should happen and five why it absolutely shouldn't.

The continuity of the MCU is already becoming a little confusing with the introduction of Disney+ shows, as well as what has already happened on Netflix, ABC, Hulu, and Freeform.

Adding another medium to this with the comics may make it even more difficult to understand what is canon and what isn't. Right now there are even inconsistencies in the MCU comics that have been produced, so inconsistencies in a crossover of the universes is bound to happen.

The multiverse has been teased a few times in the MCU, although Doctor Strange may be exploring it in his own upcoming adventure. This crossover could actually massively boost this narrative.

Having these iconic iterations of the characters crossover would support the multiverse theory and do something extremely creative with it, especially if the mainline comics play into this big multiversal event.

If this is a part of the larger narrative of the MCU, anyone who doesn't read comics might be left out. The movies manage to reach a much larger audience than the comics perhaps ever will again.

RELATED:5 Things About Gamora The MCU Changed (& 5 They Kept The Same)

If a huge part of the story is actually missing from the screen, then it wouldn't really make sense from a narrative perspective. A crossover like this could leave out big details in the cinematic side of the story.

Bringing together the on-screen and comic versions of the characters could be a really interesting experiment over how these heroes and villains actually compare to one another.

For instance, the two Steve Rogers and Tony Starks would be almost identical, but a character like Gamora might see a lot of differences in their lives. This could provide some compelling discussions between these doppelgangers.

Wherever there great comparisons to be made there are also a number of bad parallels. Sometimes characters, stories, or costumes have been changed to such an extent that they are worse on screen than they are in the comics.

Inviting these kind of parallels may show a few of the flaws within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Therefore, it could be a better idea to completely keep these worlds separate.

A benefit certainly for the Walt Disney Company is that it can provide an opportunity for a bit of cross-promotion. It could encourage mainstream movie fans to actually read some of the comics.

RELATED:3 Things The MCU Gets Right About Thanos (& 7 It Doesn't)

This would be good news for comic book fans as well since more readers means more of a budget for a wide range of different narratives and characters. It could really help the Marvel brand thrive further in the realm of comics.

The difficulty of crossing over these two universes is that each is designed for a slightly different audience. The comics are certainly there for niche fans who have been following on for some time.

With new readers, the comics themselves will have to change in style to appeal to this larger audience that will be reading them. Creatively speaking, this could damage the identity of some of the titles in a few ways.

A complete change in storytelling also means that there are new creative ideas being put forward. This kind of crossover could actually inspire a slight change in the MCU in the future.

It's been slowly picking up more comic book elements, but perhaps this will move it in the direction of completely creating a universe full of heroes and villains everywhere.

There's a fear that an idea like this could be a little gimmicky and more for financial reasons rather than any creative motivations. It would, therefore, fall flat if it is just a cheap promotional stunt.

There needs to be some real narrative power behind this idea to make it feel more like a real part of the story of both universes rather than an excuse to only boost sales.

A change in medium can sometimes refresh a franchise. Things can be done in comics that could never be achieved in live-action. A move into the animation world will already be giving fans a range of an alternate reality, with the What If...? Disney+ series.

A move into comics could allow characters to return that haven't been seen in the MCU for some time. It could bring in villains that are almostun-adaptableto the big screen or even take heroes to locations that will likely never be seen on film.

Stargirl: Where the JSA and ISA Headquarters Are Located | CBR – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Posted: at 3:43 pm

The location of the Justice Society of America's headquarters in DC Universe's Stargirl series differs greatly from the source material.

In Stargirl, the headquarters for the Justice Society of Americaand Injustice Society of America is in Blue Valley,a rural small town in Nebraska. That's a major departure from the comic book source material, in which the JSA's base of operations is historically located in urban areas like Gotham and New York City. On the DC Universe series,Courtney Whitmorehas just moved toBlue Valley, so this new location will definitely change the dynamic that the team has been accustom to.

Debuting in 1940, in All-Star Comics #3, the Justice Society was originally based in a hotel suite in New York City. The hotel would also serve as their base of operations during Word War II; the JSA was recruited by President Roosevelt to join theAll-Star Squadron to protect the U.S. home front from Axis Powers'sabotage.

RELATED: Stargirl: Smallville's JSA Episodes Will Get You Prepared for New Series

When superhero comics waned in popularity during the late 1940s, the JSA was out ofcommission for nearly 12 years. The storyline "Flash of Two Worlds" introduced the concept of the multiverse, and DC revived the team, setting them on a parallel world called Earth-2. Sadly, the JSA would only make appearances in the annual crossover with the JLA before briefly regaining its own title in 1976.

InAll-Star Comics #58, the JSA had a new HQin a brownstone building in Gotham City. This HQ was outfitted with an advancedsurveillance system, which spotted three artificial disasters created by their longtime villain Brainwave. The JSA split into three groups and helped a younger generation of heroes -- Robin, Star-Spangled Kid and Power Girl -- fend off these disasters. The JSA began mentoring these young heroes and this aspect would follow the team for years to come.

RELATED:Stargirl Photoset Introduces The Show's Supporting Cast

Later, the super-powered children of the JSA once interrupted a meeting with the older members and requested membership in the team. The heroes were rebuffed and they went on to create their own team called Infinity Inc. The two teams worked closely together, but continuity changes fromCrisis on Infinite Earthskinda ruined things for the team. Most of the younger members of that group would later join the JSA years later.

Following Crisis on Infinite Earths and the subsequent Last Days of the JSA, the team was trapped in Limbo and their old Gotham brownstone was converted into a museum. The team would eventually escape Limbo and they would use the deceased Wesley Dodd's (Sandman) New York Mansion as their new base of operations. The new HQ was a lavish place full ofmemorabilia and trophies. The Injustice Society famously stormed the mansion while the team was away, and was fought off by an injured Ted Grant (Wildcat) who was recovering from a broken arm. The JSA would later relocate their HQ to another brownstone building in Battery Park.

RELATED:Stargirl Concept Art Gives Best Look Yet at Series' Lead Villain

The change in location to Blue Valley in Stargirl will definitely change the dynamic for the JSA. The JSA was accustomed to urban locales and was deeply ingrained in a wider superhero community.Courtney Whitmore and all of her companions and villains either live in Blue Valley or go to the local high school. Thisproximity the characters share with another willdefinitely make things more personal; the small town will likely become a battlefield in the super-powered fights between the JSA and ISA. The stakes will also be raised to the extreme, as the teams' identities and their loved ones are more at risk.

While the new location might be a departure for a team so ingrained in city life, this is a bold opportunity to explore new facets of the Justice Society. The JSA has endured for decades and this change of scenery might breathe some new life for this historic team.

DC Universe's Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl), Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton (Starman), Brian Stapf as Ted Grant (Wildcat), Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Rex Tyler (Hourman) and Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman. The series will premiered Monday, May 18, on DC Universe, and will debut Tuesday, May 19, on The CW.

The next SpaceX launch will be the company’s first with people on board – CNBC

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launches a test of the company's Crew Dragon capsule.

SpaceX

SpaceX is just nine days away from the most significant launch in the history of Elon Musk's company.

The company confirmed on Monday that its next launch will be Demo-2, currently scheduled for May 27. The mission will see two NASA astronauts strap in to SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule and head for the International Space Station.

NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley buckled into the Crew Dragon capsule for SpaceX Demo-2.

SpaceX

SpaceX had planned to launch another batch of its Starlink satellites this week. But, due to a coming tropical storm, the company decided to delay the satellite mission and instead focus on Demo-2.

As its name implies, Demo-2 will be the second time SpaceX launches its Crew Dragon capsule to the space station. ButDemo-1 last yearhad no crew on board.

NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley areset to liftoff at 4:32 p.m. EDT from launchpad 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket emblazoned with the famous NASA "worm" logo for the Demo-2 mission/

NASA

Demo-2 has been a priority for both NASA and SpaceX, with the agency deeming the mission to be "mission essential" even during the coronavirus pandemic.NASA AdministratorJim Bridenstine earlier this month explainedthat decision to CNBC, saying that "we need access to the International Space Station from the United States of America." Currently there is just one NASA astronaut on board the ISS.

NASA has helped fund the development of SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft under a program known as Commercial Crew. The Commercial Crew program is NASA's replacement for the Space Shuttle, which retired in 2011. While NASA has awarded SpaceX more than $3.1 billion to develop Crew Dragon, the agency estimates that the program will save taxpayers between $20 billion and $30 billion compared to NASA's previous plans.

While thousands of people were expected to come watch the historic launch, Bridenstine has asked people to stay home for Demo-2 and not come to Florida. The agency will host a live broadcast of the mission online.

"Join us in this launch but do so from home. We are asking people not to travel to the Kennedy Space Center," Bridenstine said on April 23.

THE International Space Station is visible over the UK at the moment and is incredibly bright as it passes over in the evenings.

You can catch it all this week, with very bright passes at 10.04pm and 11.40pm tonight, Monday, May 18, and for night owls another one at 1.17am.

On Tuesday, May 19, you will see it overhead at 10.52pm and again at 29 minutes past midnight. The following day, Wednesday, May 20, it will be visible at 10.04pm and at 11.41pm. On Thursday, May 21, it will be passing at 10.53pm and again at half past midnight. Friday's times are 10.05pm and 11.42pm.

International Space Station visible in orbit over the UK until the beginning of June – Newbury Weekly News Group

Posted: at 3:42 pm

THE International Space Station will be visible as it passes over the UK over the next 16 days, between May 15 and June 1.

The ISS is the largest space station/laboratory ever built and can be seen with the naked eye at certain times as it orbits Earth at 17,500mph at an altitude of roughly 200 miles.

It is a huge space station that serves as an orbital laboratory, factory, testing ground and home, with crew members conducting experiments from biology to astronomy.

Spotting the space station is very easy and you dont need any special equipment just your eyes and a camera!

It always passes over starting from a westerly part of the sky, but not always from the same point. It can be low on the horizon for some passes and very high for others.

The best times to see it this weekend and appearing from the south west, are Friday, May 15, at 10.50pm and again at 27 minutes past midnight, Saturday, May 16, at 10.03pm and again at 11.39pm, and on Sunday, May 17, you could spot it at 10.51pm.

There are other passes during the night that we haven't included, but if you fancy camping out under the stars there will be two or three opportunities in the early hours of the morning.

Each pass lasts about three minutes and they are predicted to be very bright, but please note they are subject to change at the last minute - if the International Space Station performs an orbital boost and changes its orbit - and we will keep the times as updated as we can.

Next week's times will be posted on Monday. Spaceship incoming

As usual we would love to see your photographs of the satellite, star constellations or planets. Tim Burgess took the picture above from his garden in Thatcham, so the bar has been set. Email geraldine.gardner@newburynews.co.ukand we will create a cosmic gallery for May.
