>> WELCOME TO NEW HAMPSHIRE'S BUSINESS, I'M FRED KOCUR. WORK OF THE FUTURE. LET'S GO TO THE GRAPHIC AND I'LL SHOW YOU WHAT I MEAN. IN 2018, THE PEW RESEARCH CENTER FOUND BETWEEN 65 AND 90% OF THOSE SURVEYED IN ADVANCED ECONOMIES BELIEVE THAT ROBOTS AND COMPUTERS WILL PROBABLY OR DEFINITELY TAKE OVER MANY JOBS NOW DONE BY HUMANS AND THIS IS A SUBJECT THAT IS NOW THE PROCESS, IN THE PROCESS OF BEING LOOKED AT BY A TASK FORCE AT MIT AND THE HEAD OF THAT TASK FORCE IS WITH ME AS MY GUEST. ELIZABETH REYNOLDS THE TASK FORCE ON WORK OF THE FUTURE. NICE TO HAVE YOU HERE. >> WONDERFUL. >> WHAT IS THE THING THAT BROUGHT THIS TASK FORCE ABOUT? >> WELL, THERE'S A LOT OF ANXIETY AND UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE FUTURE OF WORK BECAUSE OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES THAT HAVE COME ONLINE, AI, ROBOTICS, ET CETERA. SO THE FAST FORCE IS LOOKING AT THE CHANGING NATURE OF WORK, SKILLS REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO TO ENSURE SHARED PROSPERITY GOING FORWARD. >> TWO OF THE VARIABLES ARE ON THE GRAPH. LET'S GO TO THE FIRST ONE. THIS GRAPH, LOOK AT THE LINES, THE WORKING AGE SHARE OF THE U.S. POPULATION IS CONTRACTING AND GOING DOWN. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT? >> RIGHT, BASICALLY WE'RE LOOKING AT WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR WORKING AGE POPULATION FROM 1980 TO PROJECTED 24. AT THE TOP LINE USED TO HAVE A HIGHER SHARE OF WORKING AGE POPULATION AND LOWER SHARE OF SENIORS, ADULT POPULATION, AND NOW, THE RED LINE IS WHERE WE'RE GOING TO BE IN A FEW DECADES AND THAT'S WHERE IT'S A BIT CONCERNING, WE'RE ESSENTIALLY INCREASING OUR RETIRED AGE OF THE POPULATION, DECREASING OUR WORKING AGE POPULATION AND WHAT WE SEE GOING FORWARD IS REALLY A SCARCITY OF WORKERS, NOT AN ABUNDANCE OF JOBS. >> YEAH, YEAH, AND THAT'S CONCERNING. WE'RE ALREADY SEEING THE BEGINNINGS OF THAT WITH BUSINESSES LOOKING FOR EMPLOYEES RIGHT ACROSS THE BOARD. NOW, LET'S GO TO THE NEXT GRAPHIC AND THIS ONE IS THE CHANGE IN LABOR PRODUCTIVITY AND COMPENSATION BETWEEN 1948 AND 2018 AND THAT TOP LINE AND THE MIDDLE LINE, WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT? >> THE TOP LINES SHOW US THAT ESSENTIALLY SINCE 1980, WE'VE HAD THIS DIVERGENCE BETWEEN GROWING PRODUCTIVITY AND THE TWO BOTTOM LINES, MEDIAN WORKER COMPENSATION AND REALLY, WHAT WORKERS WHO AREN'T FOUR-YEAR EDUCATED, WHO AREN'T IN A SUPERVISORY ROLE AND THAT'S WHERE WE SEE THE STAGNATION OF WAGES ACROSS THE BOARD. IF YOU'RE AN AVERAGE WORKER, THAT TOP LINE IS TRACKING PRODUCTIVITY, BUT THE AVERAGE IS INCLUDING HIGHER EDUCATED WORKERS. OUR LOWER AND MODERATE EDUCATED WORKERS HAVE REALLY BEEN SUFFERING FROM STAGNANT WAGES FOR 40 YEARS. >> HAS YOUR TASK FORCE DECIDED WHAT WE NEED TO DO ABOUT THIS? >> WELL, WE CERTAINLY HAVE SUGGESTIONS. NO QUESTION, EVERYBODY IS FOCUSED ON WORK FORCE SKILLS AND TRAINING, WHAT WE NEED FOR EDUCATION AND PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO ARE MOST VULNERABLE, WHICH IS FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO SAY TWO YEAR DEGREES AND SO WE'RE VERY FOCUSED HOW DO WE TRAIN FOR THOSE JOBS, MEDIAN WORKERS AND WE THINK THERE'S A LOT FOR INVESTMENT. R AND D TAX CREDITS AND OTHER WAYS. WE NEED TO DO MORE FOR INVESTING IN HUMANS AND BUILDING OUR OWN CAPABILITIES. >> AND THE TECHNOLOGY IS REPLACING JOBS, TECHNOLOGY IS ALSO CREATING JOBS SO THE CHALLENGE, I ASSUME, IS HOW TO DRAIN PEOPLE FOR THOSE JOBS. >> THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S ALWAYS DONE THAT. WE'VE HAD BOTH OF THOSE. IT DOES OBVIOUSLY GET RID OF JOBS, BUT CREATES NEW JOBS. AND THE CHALLENGE FOR US IS NOT GOING TO BE WILL WE HAVE ENOUGH JOBS, THE CHALLENGE IS GOING TO BE, WHAT'S THE QUALITY OF THE JOBS.

U.S. companies cut back on installing robots in 2019 – Reuters
Posted: at 7:52 pm
(Reuters) - The robot invasion slowed a bit last year.

U.S. companies installed fewer robots in 2019 than they did the year before, the first cut back since 2015, as a downturn in manufacturing fueled by trade wars and weaker demand dampened appetite for the machines.
Shipments fell to 23,758, a more than 16% drop, according to data seen by Reuters that was set for release on Tuesday by the Association for Advancing Automation, an industry group based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Robot shipments also fell in Mexico last year, declining 25% to 3,263, while shipments in Canada roughly held steady at just over 3,000 units.
(GRAPHIC: Robot shipments slowed last year, here)
A major goal of President Donald Trump has been to drive manufacturers to bring work back to the United States, presumably aided by new automation and robotics that would allow domestic plants to compete with cheaper labor in China and other lower-cost countries. But that trend appears to have been overwhelmed by a larger slowdown in manufacturing.
Alexander Shikany, vice president of the Association for Advancing Automation, said the slowdown is likely to be short lived. Orders for new robots in North America, a separate measure that gives a sense of how many machines will be installed in future months, increased last year by 1.6% to 29,988 units, Shikany noted.
The largest driver of that growth was a more than 50% jump in orders from automakers, which Shikany said were making robots part of their investment in the next wave of automotive technology.
No. 1 U.S. automaker General Motors Co (GM.N), for example, recently announced it was investing $2.2 billion to build electric trucks and autonomous electric vehicles at its Detroit-area plant in Hamtramck, Michigan.
Hytrol Conveyor Co Inc, a privately held company in Jonesboro, Arkansas, that produces conveyor belts and had sales last year of over $200 million, did not cut back on robot installations in 2019. With demand from e-commerce businesses and other warehouse operations booming, the company spent $1.9 million last year to help automate its assembly line.
David Peacock, the companys president, said the company realized three years ago it would have trouble keeping up with demand growth without more robots.
The investments have not cut jobs. Headcount at Hytrol Conveyors factory has increased 18% over the past three years to 1,300 workers. Revenues, meanwhile, are up nearly a quarter.

A fulfilling love story: Watch Amazon robots go on Valentines date to promote real human connections – GeekWire
Posted: at 7:52 pm
Even the robots are feeling romantic this week at Amazon, as the tech giant shows a little love for Valentines Day and employees who have made a human connection at work.
In a new video and blog post on Tuesday, Amazon promoted how associates across the globe have found their perfect partner while working in Amazon fulfillment centers, logistics facilities, and customer service centers.
An Amazon Scout delivery robot presents a card to an Amazon Robotics device that says, Will you be my Valentine? and the two machines go on a date. They dine on spaghetti and meatballs; they share popcorn at a movie; and they have a quiet moment overlooking a water view.
The Scout is a six-wheeled, cooler-sized, autonomous package delivery robot which first debuted during a test north of Seattle last year.

Benefits of Table Games and Video Poker – Programming Insider
Posted: at 7:51 pm
Poker is the most popular gambling game of all categories. Poker has had an iron grip on gamblers ever since the end of the 19th century. Other games have had their golden ages but have slowly disappeared from the big scenes, but the poker banner always swings high. It is partly the fact that there are so many different variants of poker, and partly that the poker has a nice mix of skill and luck that makes this game so fascinating. One cannot win in poker solely on skill, nor on luck. However, of course, a good poker player in the long run always wins over a player who relies on the tour.
Online casino games can to a large extent be divided into three groups slots, table games and video poker. Online slots are by far the most popular of the games and therefore they are focused on online gaming software providers. There are reasons for the popularity of online slots. The first is that these games, especially the progressive slot machines, offer the chance to win sick boggling sums with small bets. Secondly, they use sound and visual special effects to transport the player to another plane. Therefore, new players first lead to the slot machine and get stuck on them.
But there are very compelling reasons for new players to try table games such as blackjack, roulette and craps and the video games as well. The first reason is that the slot machine offers the lowest average payout rates for all online casino games. Despite the fact that players sometimes win huge jackpots, the length of every $ 100 wagered on slot machines only comes back about $ 95. The payout percentage in other games is much higher. In games like blackjack and video poker players you can get back $ 99 for every $ 100 wagered. Therefore, it is important that new players learn to play other games so that they can balance their bets productively.
In country casinos, slot machines are designed for those who come with the real players, so they can cope with the time while their friends or spouses play on live tables. If online gamblers play only sots then they will never have the courage to sit at live tables in country casinos. But if they practice and play the other games in online casinos, they will be better equipped when they visit country casinos.
Online slot machines do not need any kind of skill. The players decide how many lines and coins to choose and the coin size as well, but these are trivial decisions and do not affect the chances of winning. On the other hand, online games like blackjack and video poker need real skill. How to play video poker is not easy matter but it can be studied. Good blackjack players will fare better than the poor. As new players acquire these skills, they will see their winnings increase and realize that they have greater control over their destiny. But for this, they have to go through the trial period to learn the game and make the strategy perfect.
Most new online players avoid this learning process for fear of losing money during it. They are under a misconception. Almost all online casinos allow players to play for fun. This allows them to play with free credits without making any investments. The winnings are obviously not payable but the goal is to learn and not win. All Microgaming and most Wizard Gaming-powered online casinos go a step further. Online players do not even need to register at these casinos to play for free. They can only access the online casino site and start playing.

The Five Biggest Online Pot-Limit Omaha Pots Of All-Time – PokerNews.com
Posted: at 7:51 pm
February 16, 2020Matthew Pitt
Poker players love playing pot-limit Omaha (PLO) for the action it brings. Having four hole cards instead of holdems two really drives the action.
The fact equities in PLO pots are much closer than their Texas holdem cousins is another factor in why PLO is an action game. Youll often find yourself essentially flipping a coin as to whether you scoop the pot or are topping up your stack.
Online poker has seen some massive PLO cash game pots won and lost over the years. Full Tilt was the place for nosebleed PLO action. In fact, all five of the huge posts were about to look at stem from there.
Perhaps with the introduction of six-card Omaha, PokerStars can take over that mantle?
$1,356,947 - just wow! holds the record for the largest online cash game pot ever won at an incredible $1,356,947. Amazingly, Antonius won this mammoth-sized pot as a 54.63% favorite!
The hand started with Viktor Blom opening to $3,000 with and Antonius three-betting to $9,000 with . Blom responded with a four-bet to $27,000 before calling when Antonius made it $81,000 preflop!
A flop reading gifted Antonius a straight and with $162,000 already in the pot, Antonius led for $91,000. Blom raised to $435,000, Antonius set the price to play at $870,000 and Blom called off his remaining $163,000 stack.
The turn was joined by the river and the biggest-ever PLO cash game pot landed in Antonius lap.

Blom found himself winning a seven-figure pot only a couple of days after losing the record pot to Antonius.
This time, Phil Ivey and Blom locked horns at $500/$1,000 PLO. Ivey opened to $3,000, Blom three-bet to $9,000 and Ivey re-raised to $27,000, a bet Blom called.
Both players checked the flop before Ivey led for $41,000 into the $54,000 pot on the turn. Blom stuck in a raise to $177,000 that Ivey called.
Ivey checked on the river only to see Blom bet $408,000 and Ivey called off his last $359,977. Ivey mucked his hand as Blom flipped over for a flopped full house.
The third-largest PLO pot was lost by that man Blom and, again, to Antonius.
An all-familiar raise to $3,000 came in from Blom and Antonius called. Antonius check-raised Bloms $5,000 continuation bet to $21,000 on the flop. Blom called.
Antonius took up the role of aggressor on the turn, betting $48,000. Blom responded with a $192,000 raise, which Antonius jammed on for $416,479. Blom called and showed against the of Antonius.
A split pot was the most likely scenario, approximately 62.5% chance, but that never happened because the river completed a straight for Antonius!
Ivey and Blom contested the fourth-largest online cash game pot and, again, it was at the heads-up PLO tables.
A brief raising war resulted in $54,000 being in the middle before the flop fell . Ivey initially checked, Blom bet $42,000 before Ivey leapt into life with a check-raise to $180,000. Blom shoved for $389,470 and Ivey called.
It was for Blom and for Ivey. The turn missed both players but the river gifted Ivey a flush and a huge pot.
Blom clashed with Ivey for the fifth-largest online cash game pot. Amazingly, this hand happened 90-minutes before the one above; what a swingy battle that must have been.
An all-too-typical raise to $3,000 from Ivey was three-bet to $9,000 by Blom and an Ivey call. Blom tested the waters with a $15,000 bet on the flop and received a call. The turn lit the blue touch paper.
First, Blom bet $42,0000 and Ivey raised to $157,000. Blom pushed all-in for $389,980 and Ivey called. Ivey revealed the for a straight and Blom held .
Blom only had 20% equity in the hand, but that was realised when the completed the board and scooped him the pot.
Sharelines
You won't believe the size of these five PLO cash game hands. Five hands, $5,027,761 won and lost!
Patrick ntonius won the largest PLO online cash game pot of all-time: More than $1.3 million.
Viktor Blom was involved in all five of the biggest online PLO cash game hands of all-time.

I am very happy to have achieved the first poker of my career. The three points stay at home!, Wrote a social euphoric Hugo Lpez after the meeting.
The Spanish, who he lives his second stage in Oman He already played for Dhofar FC between August 2017 and July 2018, opened the can before the break and it was not until the final stretch of the match when he scored the rest of his goals against Al Nahda. Poker sharks and newbies can bluff and bet during a Texas Hold Em tournament on Saturday to raise money for the New Braunfels and S.O.S. food banks.
The New Braunfels Downtown Rotary Club is holding its 12th annual All in for the Hungry poker tournament at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the
Advance tickets are $275 for an individual ticket and $900 for a group of four ticket package. Tickets are $375 each for those registering the day of the event, which opens at 9 a.m.
The champion will get a paid seat, worth $10,000, at the 2020 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas and a custom-made bracelet from Ernestos Jewelry.
There is also a Last Woman Standing award which is $3,000 to use at Ernestos Jewelry for the last woman in play. Rotary club member Wayne Vrba said about 30% of the players every year are women.
The top second through ninth place winners can win from $500 to $4,000. Prizes for 10th through 18th place are $275.
The event is professionally managed by a casino organization from San Antonio, and players must be 21 or older.
Collectively, the Downtown Rotary Club raises about $250,000 a year to distribute within the community, Vrba said.
Breakfast tacos will be served at 9 a.m., pizza and wings around lunchtime and Granzins Bar-B-Q around dinner.
Players will be using chips with no actual money, but ticket revenue will go toward local food banks.
I just would like to stress that what were doing is trying to help people in this community everyday who have to face the adversity of hunger, Vrba said. And we like to say we provide real food for real people with real needs.
Vrba said the club is expecting about 150 to 175 players and about nine players per table. Last year, the tournament raised about $25,000.
We have a lot of repeat business players but also a number of new players and we get a bunch of them, Vrba said. We get players from Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels of course and players from the Houston area and the Valley.
The rotary club has three other major fundraising events for charity: its Wurstfest booth, a scholarship golf tournament in May and its largest fundraiser, the Wild Game Dinner in September.
Advance registration for the poker tournament and more information about the Downtown Rotary Club of New Braunfels is available at http://www.downtownrotarynb.org.

Exactly How Crazy Was The Crazy Game Of Poker In That O.A.R. Song? We Took A Look At The Numbers To Find Out – BroBible
Posted: at 7:51 pm
Despite the best efforts of activists who spent a sizeable chunk of the 1950s trying to prevent the planets youth from being corrupted by rock and roll, the genre had firmly cemented itself as The Next Big Thing by the time the world ushered in the following decade.
In the 1960s, the charts were dominated by the poppy and groovy tunes of bands like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Monkees, but by the time the middle of the decade rolled around and the countercultural scene that popped up in the wake of the start of the Vietnam War formed, a new group of musical acts burst onto the scene.
In 1965, Bob Dyland released Like A Rolling Stonearguably the defining song of the movementand that same year, a group called the Grateful Dead made its grand debut at one of Ken Keseys Acid Tests and introduced the world to a style of music that had never really been heard before.
Youd be hardpressed to find a music scholar who wouldnt label the Dead the pioneers of the jam band movement, and while other bands like the Allman Brothers and Phish would eventually take inspiration from a signature style that was defined by esoteric lyrics and rambling instrumentals, the genre arguably crescendoed in the 1990s when a myriad of new performers burst onto the scene.
By the time the mid-90s rolled around, Dave Matthews Band had burst into the mainstream, and around the same time, other acts that would also ride the new jam band waveincluding Dispatch, Umphreys McGee, and the Disco Biscuitsformed as a new era officially dawned.
In 1996, a group of high schoolers from Maryland joined forces to form Of a Revolution (better known as O.A.R)., and a year later, theyd record their first album, The Wanderer, before taking their talents to THE Ohio State University, where they showcased their tunes at frat parties and sorority houses as they began to rise to prominence.
O.A.R. spent a long time grinding before they finally attracted the attention of the general public with the release of Stories of a Stranger in 2005, and a year later, they earned the right to say theyd officially arrived when they performed a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden.
Stories of a Stranger was O.A.R.s fifth album but their rapidly expanding fanbase quickly began to devour the rest of their discographyincluding The Wanderer, an album thats home to That Was A Crazy Game of Poker, which may be their defining song.
As the title suggests, the track tells the story of a man who takes part in a supposedly crazy game of cards. Lead singer Marc Roberge says its supposed to be a metaphor for resisting the temptation of Satan or something but Im less concerned with its underlying meaning than I am with one question thats seemingly gone unanswered: Just how crazy was the poker game in question?
In the opening verse, the songs narratorwho eventually sees his net worth drop to a grand sum of zero after a trio of bad gamesbemoans falling victim to an incredibly bad beat after his full house (consisting of three jacks and a pair of nines) is bested by another guy at the table named Johnny, who managed to score a royal flush.
So just how unlucky was he? Lets take a look at the numbers.
According to a calculator I found, the odds of losing any hand when you have a full house comprised of three jacks and two nines is just around .1142%. For comparison, there is around a one-in-650,000 chance a player will achieve a royal flush during any given hand (if youre more of a percentage person, this amounts to a 0.000154% probability).
I will fully admit I lack the mathematical acumen required to determine the odds of two players obtaining both of these hands in a single round of poker and was unable to find any statistically gifted experts able to provide me with an answer after a cursory search (if anyone reading this can actually calculate the probability Ill happily update this article with your findings).
So, was this game of poker indeed as crazy as the title claims? I think its safe to say it was. With that said, Id argue it comes nowhere close to being the most insane part of a song where the events that follow the game in question involve Johnny hitting the guy he beat with a face in the bat only to have a gun pulled on him by that man, who then decides to start some sort of revolution.
Crazy shit indeed.
