What is DNA? – Genetics Home Reference

Posted: at 2:44 am

DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. Nearly every cell in a persons body has the same DNA. Most DNA is located in the cell nucleus (where it is called nuclear DNA), but a small amount of DNA can also be found in the mitochondria (where it is called mitochondrial DNA or mtDNA).

The information in DNA is stored as a code made up of four chemical bases: adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T). Human DNA consists of about 3 billion bases, and more than 99 percent of those bases are the same in all people. The order, or sequence, of these bases determines the information available for building and maintaining an organism, similar to the way in which letters of the alphabet appear in a certain order to form words and sentences.

DNA bases pair up with each other, A with T and C with G, to form units called base pairs. Each base is also attached to a sugar molecule and a phosphate molecule. Together, a base, sugar, and phosphate are called a nucleotide. Nucleotides are arranged in two long strands that form a spiral called a double helix. The structure of the double helix is somewhat like a ladder, with the base pairs forming the ladders rungs and the sugar and phosphate molecules forming the vertical sidepieces of the ladder.

An important property of DNA is that it can replicate, or make copies of itself. Each strand of DNA in the double helix can serve as a pattern for duplicating the sequence of bases. This is critical when cells divide because each new cell needs to have an exact copy of the DNA present in the old cell.

THE LORD OF ASCENSION – gotquestions.org

Posted: at 11:50 am

Question: "What is the meaning and importance of the ascension of Jesus Christ?"

Answer:

Forty days after the resurrection, Jesus and His disciples went to Mount Olivet, near Jerusalem. There, Jesus promised His followers that they would soon receive the Holy Spirit, and He instructed them to remain in Jerusalem until the Spirit had come. Then Jesus blessed them, and as He gave the blessing, He began to ascend into heaven. The account of Jesus' ascension is found in Luke 24:50-51 and Acts 1:9-11.

It is plain from Scripture that Jesus' ascension was a literal, bodily return to heaven. He rose from the ground gradually and visibly, observed by many intent onlookers. As the disciples strained to catch a last glimpse of Jesus, a cloud hid Him from their view, and two angels appeared and promised Christ's return "in just the same way that you have watched Him go" (Acts 1:11).

The Ascension of Jesus Christ is meaningful for several reasons:

1) It signaled the end of His earthly ministry. God the Father had lovingly sent His Son into the world at Bethlehem, and now the Son was returning to the Father. The period of human limitation was at an end.

2) It signified success in His earthly work. All that He had come to do, He had accomplished.

3) It marked the return of His heavenly glory. Jesus' glory had been veiled during His sojourn on earth, with one brief exception at the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-9).

4) It symbolized His exaltation by the Father (Ephesians 1:20-23). The One with whom the Father is well pleased (Matthew 17:5) was received up in honor and given a name above all names (Philippians 2:9).

5) It allowed Him to prepare a place for us (John 14:2).

6) It indicated the beginning of His new work as High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-16) and Mediator of the New Covenant (Hebrews 9:15).

7) It set the pattern for His return. When Jesus comes to set up the Kingdom, He will return just as He left-literally, bodily, and visibly in the clouds (Acts 1:11; Daniel 7:13-14; Matthew 24:30; Revelation 1:7).

Currently, the Lord Jesus is in heaven. The Scriptures frequently picture Him at the right hand of the Father-a position of honor and authority (Psalm 110:1; Ephesians 1:20; Hebrews 8:1). Christ is the Head of the Church (Colossians 1:18), the giver of spiritual gifts (Ephesians 4:7-8), and the One who fills all in all (Ephesians 4:9-10).

Ethical Egoism – Mega Essays

Posted: at 11:46 am

Egoism : Develop the criticism that ethical egoism is an inadequate moral theory because it does not resolve moral conflicts. Recall that ethical egoism simply denies that theories must do this. I will be arguing that ethical egoism is an inadequate moral theory because it does not resolve moral conflicts. I will first give you the basic background information on ethical egoism as well as information about egoism required to see the flaw in it. Then I will discuss the hole in ethical egoism that makes it an inadequate theory. To fully understand the flaw in ethical egoism you must first know certain principles behind ethical egoism. Ethical egoism is a normative theory which means it states how we ought to act. There are two types of ethical egoism; individual ethical egoism and universal ethical egoism. I will be referring to universal ethical egoism in the rest of the paper. Universal ethical egoism states that everyone should or ought to look out for themselves and their own best interest. It also says that one should only help others when it benefits themselves in the long run. It states that in any conflict, instead of reaching a compromise, each person should reach their own best interest. It is the opposite of altruism which states that everyone should dedicate their lives to helping others whereas ethical egoism states that everyone should lookout for themselves. A definition of what a moral theory should do must also be given. A moral theory should set principles in order to determine what actions are right and what are wrong and from that be able to conclusively end an argument by having the parties reach an agreement. The problem that arises from ethical egoism is that everyone cannot always look out for their own best interests. It is like a chess game in which one person has the opportunity to block the others check, which is in his best interest, but on the other hand it is in the others best interest to tak...

Trying to install jitsi meet with apache2 – Stack Overflow

Posted: at 11:45 am

I know there are already post on this subject, but they don't produce good results and I would like to share, here, my thinking on this subject. Feel free to moderate my post if you think it's a bad idea.

Server: Ubuntu 16.04.1, Apache2.4.18

DNS conf:

Like I said I try to run Jitsi meet on apache2. By following the steps described in Quick install (https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/blob/master/doc/quick-install.md)

If I install Jitsi meet on my server just after installing Ubuntu so without Apache or Nginx. Jitsi works great. If I install Jitsi meet on my server after installing Nginx. Jitsi works great.

With the same method of installation, I try to install Jitsi meet after installing Apache2, so I notice that Jitsi meet does not configure itself apache2, so I tried this first configuration:

When I load the page meet.mydomain.xx I get the following error:

"It works! Now your customer BOSH points to this URL to connect to Prosody.

For more information see Prosody. Setting up BOSH "

But when I look at the /etc/prosody/conf.avail/meet.mydomain.xx.cfg.lua file, I notice that bosh is already enabled and the rest of the configuration is ok with what is explain here https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/blob/master/doc/manual-install.md The log contains no errors. If you have an idea to fix this problem I'm interested.

Second configuration that I tested:

With this setup the result seems better, I can see the home page of Jitsi meet but without the text, without the logo and when I click on the go button, nothing happend. The log contains no errors.

So here I don't no really what to do. If someone have some advices or ideas, thank you to share it !

Bye, thank you for reading

Did Barclays Just Declare War on Bitcoin Users?

Posted: at 11:45 am

UK bank Barclays has suspended the account of local cryptocurrency news resource Coinjournalwithout warning or explanation, it emerged today.

In a tweet earlier Thursday, journalist Kyle Torpey stated it seemed the bank had suspended Coinjournals account for using and being associated with [Bitcoin].

The move follows similar complaints about Barclays blocking transactions related to Bitcoin trading this week. The bank is already known for its sporadic shutdowns of accounts associated with entitiesdealing in Bitcoin.

Speaking to Bitcoin.com, Coinjournal founder Oliver Carding said the decision had taken the business by surprise.

Considering the size of or business and the amount of money involved, we are surprised that weve been considered high risk, he said, adding that Barclays gaveno warning of the impending block.

When asked for more information about which rule wed broken they would not give us explicit information and referred us to their terms and conditions, he explained.

Its not just businesses which Barclays hasstung withits latest move. One Localbitcoins trader told Bitcoin.com that transactions from their private account to users settling trades had been disrupted since the beginning of the week.

Having received a message via the banks online banking service stating transactions were being delayed, a telephone conversation sawBarclays avoid direct comment.

They did not even mentioned fraud or anything; the last representative I spoke to didnt give a proper answer, the user said. They just said that the account that Im trying to send money too has been blocked and that there are issues with Barclays.

Elsewhere, Barclays has given mixed messages regardingits stance on blockchain technology. In contrast to its seemingly suspicious treatment of Bitcoin, the bank has joined many other legacy institutions in championing blockchainspotential.

In February, Head of Open Innovation Arian Lewis even went as far as to question whether Barclays was really a tech company. On the topic of Blockchain innovation in Africa, Lewis added that the technology could be the most significant social and political innovation to impact Africa in 100 years.

However, such evangelism provides little meaning for the banks marooned account holders.

Its a very familiar tale unfortunately and its a huge hindrance for adoption worldwide, not just in the U.K, Carding concluded.

He added Coinjournal was in the process of reaching out to contacts in the cryptocurrency space and hoped to have a resolution worked out in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, the publication is soliciting bitcoin donations to help keep the website operating.

Francisco d'Anconia says that the "words 'to make money' hold the essence of human morality." What does he mean? What are today's prevalent moral attitudes toward money? Do you agree with Franciscos view? Explain why or why not.

Atlas Shrugged is both a celebration of business and a defense of it against widespread attacks. Judging from the novel, as well as from Ayn Rand's essay "What Is Capitalism?" and her speech "America's Persecuted Minority: Big Business," why does she think business should be defended and championed? What does she think is a proper defense of business, and why?

Ragnar Danneskjld says he loves that which has rarely been loved, namely, human ability. What do you think this means? How does it relate to the idea: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need"? Do you agree or disagree with Ragnar's attitude? Explain.
