PHP Will Incorporate Libsodium for Crypto – Security Intelligence (blog)

Many developers consider the Libsodium library the go-to source of application-layer cryptography. It is thought to offer a portable, cross-compilable, easy-to-use library that can be applied to most standard crypto functions such as encryption, decryption, signatures and password hashing.

Now, the PHP core will be bound with the Libsodium cryptography libraries as of version 7.2. This merger is scheduled to emerge toward the end of this year, Bleeping Computer reported.

The impetus for the change involved a new kind of environment that PHP which powers at least 82 percent of websites, according to Bleeping Computer encountered when running the WordPress content management system (CMS). Researchers have found numerous WordPress vulnerabilities of late, and the solution usually includes another PHP extension that functions as a CMS security-oriented extension.

However, problems can arise when using a shared host provider (SHP) rather than kind that provides root access in the cloud by default. SHPs do not want all sorts of PHP extensions roaming throughout their systems because if PHP breaks breaks something, they have to clean up the resulting mess. These limitations could lead to unsecured WordPress environments.

Scott Arciszewski, chief development officer at Paragon Initiative Enterprises, told Bleeping Computer that having all the raw, cryptographical goodness of Libsodium under the hood of PHP will have many salutary effects.

For example, he believes that Libsodium can eliminate the need for the number of PHP extensions otherwise required for a WordPress installation. The basic and secure cryptography, he reasoned, would be supported by default, and WordPress developers will be attracted to the newer and more secure functions.

Arciszewski further explained his reasoning on the Paragon Initiative blog. There he added that PHPs commitment to cryptography is the first of its kind, and any future developments or similar relationships should only enhance security.

It remains to be seen whether adding Libsodium to PHP will increase the use of cryptography tools and result in more concrete security. However, its a step in the right direction for sure.

Julian Assange Awaits His Fate As Ecuadorian Elections Enter Runoff – Empty Lighthouse Magazine

Wikileaks head Julian Assange's fate is now in the hands of the Ecuadorian people, as the two presidential candidates have very different views regarding Assange's asylum.

You've gotta read this: RIP Wikileaks? Ecuador Elections Could Mean The End For Julian Assange

After neither of the two frontrunners in the election received the 40% of votes required to become president, a runoff was scheduled for April. The two candidates who will participate are left-wing Lenin Moreno and right-wing Guillermo Lasso.

RIP Wikileaks? Ecuador Elections Could Mean The End For Julian Assange

Wikileaks #Vault7: Everything Known About The Secret Vault 7 Project

Lasso was the most significant threat to Assange's safety. During the election, he has said that if he won, he would kick Assange out of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London within 30 days.

If Assange is kicked out of the embassy, he will immediately be captured and then extradited to Sweden. From there, it's likely that Assange will be extradited again -- this time to the United States, where he would face charges for the Wikileaks releases.

Given the results of the first round of the election, however, it is unlikely that Lasso will win. Instead, it is expected that the frontrunner, Lenin Moreno (who was vice president) will win. Moreno will likely continue most of the current government policies.

Unforunately for Assange, he's not totally out of the woods. Moreno is also not fully supportive of Assange. Although he is willing to continue the asylum agreement, he expects Assange to stop publishing secrets. He said the following in reference to the fact that Assange published secrets of the United States (Ecuador's ally):

We granted Assange political asylum because his life was in danger. We don't have the death penalty in Ecuador...If you invite me to your place, I shouldn't say bad things about your friends. If you give me shelter and I enjoy your hospitality, I should also show you respect

Moreno went further, putting a condition on Assange's asylum:

And one of the conditions will be to not meddle into the policies of the countries we are friends with. The same as we do not meddle in their policies. Every country has the right to self-determination and sovereignty

Moreno has suggested that if Assange and Wikileaks don't cease publication, the asylum will be revoked.

Regardless of who wins in the upcoming runoff, Wikileaks is bound to face some major challenges in the near future. Without Assange, it's unclear if the organization can or will keep publishing.

There are also many open questions. For example, if Wikileaks does continue to publish without Assange's help, will Ecuador allow him to remain in the embassy? And is Assange even willing to stop being involved in Wikileaks?

We will find out in the near future.

WikiLeaks’s Assange: Yiannopoulos is facing ‘censorship’ – The Hill

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says Breitbart senior editor Milo Yiannopoulos is facing "censorship" amid controversy over a video in which the far-right provocateur appeared to defend pedophilia.

"US 'liberals' today celebrate the censorship of right-wing UK provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos over teen sex quote," Assange tweeted Monday night.

Yiannopoulos has been facing backlash since a video clip gained traction on social media in which he says relationships between older men and young boys can be beneficial. In the clip, he also mentions his own sexual abuse.

Employees from Breitbart News, where Yiannopoulos works, are reportedly prepared to leave if the company doesn't take action.

And Simon & Schuster is canceling the publication of Yiannopoulos's book, "Dangerous."

In a Facebook post Monday, Yiannopoulos denounced the claims that he was advocating for pedophilia.

"I am a gay man, and a child abuse victim, Yiannopoulos wrote.

"I would like to restate my utter disgust at adults who sexually abuse minors. I am horrified by pedophilia and I have devoted large portions of my career as a journalist to exposing child abusers. I've outed three of them, in fact -- three more than most of my critics."

The government of Ecuador granted Assange asylum in 2012. Since then, he has been living inside the government's embassy in London.

WikiLeaks ‘will not respond to pressure’ from Ecuador’s presidential candidates Assange – RT

Published time: 21 Feb, 2017 13:18Edited time: 22 Feb, 2017 16:21

Julian Assange has hit back at Ecuadorian presidential candidate Lenin Moreno for saying that the WikiLeaks founder should reduce his attempts to influence the politics of countries with which Ecuador has friendly relations.

In a tweet, Assange said hes open to discussions with Moreno and his rival candidate Guillermo Lasso but WikiLeaks will not respond to pressure.

Assange, who is sheltered in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, is facing an uncertain future after the countrys presidential election. Lasso, who has voiced his opposition to Assange and pledged to evict him from the embassy, may no longer be a threat according to the polls, but Moreno has spoken to RT of his own concerns over the WikiLeaks founder.

One thing that is clear is that Assange will have to reduce meddling in the policies of the nations we have friendly relations with, Moreno told RT Spanish.

Moreno cited the way [Assange] meddled with the election campaign in the United States as something one shouldnt do while at the embassy.

If you invite me to your place, I shouldnt say bad things about your friends. If you give me shelter and I enjoy your hospitality, I should also show you respect, the candidate said, adding that conditions would be set for Assange if he wishes to remain at the embassy.

Assanges tweeted comment that WikiLeaks publishes material online from the EU relates to the WikiLeaks servers, which are hosted in Sweden and a number of undisclosed locations. When the embassy was without internet in October Assange said WikiLeaks would not be affected as it does not publish from Ecuador.

At the time he said he was sympathetic to Ecuador, claiming it faced a dilemma of having the US interfere with its elections if it appeared to interfere with Americas elections.

WikiLeaks Releases Documents On Alleged CIA Spying On French Presidential Candidates – Daily Caller

Anti-secrecy organization WikiLeaks released a set of documents allegedly showing CIA espionage on candidates in Frances 2012 presidential elections.

The seven pages of documents appear to be classified orders for intelligence operatives to gather information regarding candidatespolitical strategies and internal communications. WikiLeaks release of the documents comes amid growing tensions between Trump and the intelligence community over leaks of classified information that have portrayed people close to Trump in a negative light.

2012 CIA France Election by Peter Hasson on Scribd

All major French political parties were targeted for infiltration by the CIAs human (HUMINT) and electronic (SIGINT) spies in the seven months leading up to Frances 2012 presidential election, a press release from WikiLeaks states.

The revelations are contained within three CIA tasking orders published today by WikiLeaks as context for its forth coming CIA Vault 7 series. Named specifically as targets are the French Socialist Party (PS), the National Front (FN) and Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) together with current President Francois Hollande, then President Nicolas Sarkozy, current round one presidential front runner Marine Le Pen, and former presidential candidates Martine Aubry and Dominique Strauss-Khan.

Analysts in CIAs Office of Russian and European Analysis (OREA) closely watched the Oct 9th and Oct 16th Socialist primaries and will be closely monitoring the April 22nd and May 6th 2012 Presidential elections. Of particular interest is President Sarkozy, the Socialist Party (PS), and other potential candidates plans and intentions for these elections, one of the three CIA orders released by WikiLeaks states.

Instructions for CIA operatives, according to the documents, included documenting French presidential candidates political strategies, views of the U.S. and sources of political funding.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.

President Trump loved WikiLeaks. White House leaks? Not so much. – Washington Post

President Trump repeatedly referenced stolen and leaked information about his political opponents during the 2016 campaign. But now that he's in office, he's a lot less enthusiastic about leaks. (Peter Stevenson/The Washington Post)

President Trump was a big fan of leaked even stolen information on his campaign rivals during the 2016 election. He called the dump of Clinton campaign emails released by WikiLeaks a treasure trove, and cited them repeatedly on the campaign trail. And he urged Russia to look for more than 30,000 of Clinton's emails from her private server that were never handed over to the Justice Department in a remarkable news conference in July.

But now that he's in office, he's not a fan of leaks at all.

It's perhaps an unsurprising turnaround after all, it was politically convenient to cite WikiLeaks emails during the election, while leaks from within his administration have cast him and his team as incompetent and flailing.

Trump says that the leaks coming from his administration are illegal and classified in a way the Clinton emails weren't, although whoever hacked into the Clinton campaign's email server surely committed a crime. And many of the leaks coming from the Trump White House aren't exactly classified information, like the stories of infighting between aides, leaked drafts of executive orders and memos, and potential policies the White House is considering.

Trump cited stories about his calls with several world leaders, including the Prime Minister of Australia, as leaks that he wants to investigate but it's not even clear that information about those calls came from Trump administration sources.

And while there's surely an argument to be made about compartmentalizing information that is critical to national security, little such information has made its way to the media so far in his administration.

Trump simultaneously claims that the leaks coming out of his administration are fake news and promises to catch criminal leakers, which raises a question: Are the leaks fake news, lacking valuable information, or are they worthy of investigation and possible prosecution?

It's a stark but perhaps unsurprising turnaround from someone who used to cite leaked information about his opponents almost daily.

Pamela Anderson Defends Wikileaks’ Julian Assange Against Rape Charges: ‘There’s No Crime That’s Been Committed’ – ETCanada.com

By Brent Furdyk. 2 hours ago

Julian Assange is currently living at the Ecuadorianembassy in London in order to avoid being extradited to Sweden, wheres he facing rape charges.

The Wikileaks founder, however, has a defender in none other than Pamela Anderson, who believes Assanges contention thathes innocent and the rape charges are simply a ruse to ultimately make him vulnerable to prosecution over leaking classified documents.

In an interview with the RT NetworkGoing Underground, the former Baywatch star says that not only will she defend Assange, but will also use her influence to help other men who have been wrongfully accused of sexual assault.

Sweden has these very progressive laws against sexual crimes. Its almost too progressive, its almost paralyzing, she says. Im going to actually start campaigning for men who have been victims of being accused of rape when they havent actually done anything.

She adds: We all of course gravitate towards vulnerable people and we consider that to be women and children first and foremost, which is important of course, but theres also a lot of men who are in a vulnerable situation and politically bullied.

During the interview, she also asserted her belief in Assanges innocence.I think Sweden doesnt really know what to do, she says. When you read the actual case, and you read everything about it, theres no crime thats been committed.

Rumours have been swirling that Anderson, 49, is romantically involved with Assange, 45, and she addressed the rumours in a recent interview with The Guardian.

Hes a great guy, she said of Assange. I dont want to say anything about whether theres aromance. So, lets say were just good friends.

You can watch the entire interview here, in which Anderson also shares her feelings about U.S. President Donald Trump and expresses her desire to meet with British Prime Minister Teresa May. Watch:
