Chelsea Manning Tweets Out a Suicide Note and Shocking Photo …

The convicted leaker of government secrets andlongshot candidate for US Senateis safe after a photo on her Twitter account apparently showed the 30-year-old woman standing on the edge of an upper-story window ledge.

The photo was posted to her Twitter account late Sunday with the words: Im sorry. It was sent shortly after a separate tweet that said:

im not really cut out for this worldi tried adapting to this world out here but i failed youi couldnt do this anymore,

among other things. The tweets did not make clear where the photo was taken, and Mannings friends declined to say. The alarming tweets were deleted after about 10 minutes, followed by a message on her account saying Manning was OK and asking people to

please give her some space.

Manning, who twice tried to kill herself while in a US military lockup, and she also has been quoted that her publicity and cult status has been hard on her and she has found it really intimidating and overwhelming.

Chelsea Manning Issues Annual Message On Law Enforcement …

Chelsea Manning, out of the spotlight after a failed run for the Senate last summer, decided to look for some attention again on Wednesday, which just so happened to be Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, by issuing the same annual message: F*** the police.

Manning added, We live in a domestic military occupation in every major city.

Manning issued the same tweet last year, albeit with a different picture:

Manning has made rancid comments about America or its institutions for some time; last October, after being released from prison, Manning visited the United Kingdom and whimpered that the United States itself was a prison, saying, This whole notion that you get out of prison and you are free now turned out to be a bit of a downer in that sense. Because what happened, we really built this large, big prison, which is the United States, in the meantime it was already happening, it just really intensified. Manning added that the "surveillance systems, the cameras, or the police presence," made America seem less free, arguing, "You think about the fact that we have walls around our country, and that is very much the same thing that is inside a prison. I see a lot of similarities between the world out here and the world that was in there.

Manning served seven years of a 35-year sentence in prison after admitting leaking more than 700,000 military and State Department documents to WikiLeaks in 2010. Mannings sentence was commuted by former President Barack Obama in 2017.

Last May, Manning told reporters, "The rise of authoritarianism is encroaching in every aspect of life, whether it's government or corporate or technological.

As The Daily Wire noted in August 2017, Manning issued a number of tweets in "solidarity" with Antifa, including one that referenced the police, saying, the police/intel/military state defending fascism is the real "agitator" here dismantle the police state!

Last June, police searched Mannings Montgomery County apartment on a wellness check after Manning issued two tweets appearing to threaten suicide. Manning provided video footage to The Intercept of three officers entering the apartment with guns drawn after knocking. Manning, who was out of the country at the time, stated, This is what a police state looks like. Guns drawn during a wellness check.

Capt. Paul Starks of the Montgomery County Police told The Intercept:

They responded to the address to check her welfare. Once inside the residence they realized that the residence did not match the photo that was posted on Twitter. We tried to determine where she may be by attempting to use her phone but the phone was powered off and they werent able to leave a message They dont know what kind of circumstances they are entering when they enter a home. The fact that a weapon is drawn doesnt mean that they are going to shoot it. Do you know what was going on in that apartment that night? No. Not until you open the door and go in. We respond to hundreds of thousands of calls each year. Many of them are not what is phoned in.

The Daily Wire reported, Metro Transit Police SWAT Commander William Malone explained further that people frequently use police to commit suicide, and in this case, the person they were checking on had military training: The police should be commended for their actions in this case, not criticized."

Chelsea Manning burns Thin Blue Line flag, says f*#k the …

The former US Army soldier who betrayed her country and put her fellow service members at risk before becoming a transgender attention-seeker has once again made headlines after burning a Thin Blue Line flag and saying, F*&k the police.

Chelsea Manning (formerly Bradley Manning) posted a photo of a burning Thin Blue Line flag to Twitter on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, complete with the caption, F*** the police.

Manning then followed up by saying that Americans live under domestic military occupation in every major city.

The 31-year-old is best known for leaking classified military information to Wikileaks in 2010, putting servicemembers at risk. Charged with 22 offenses to include aiding the enemy, Manning was eventually found guilty for the majority of the charges and sentenced to 35 years in prison.

In 2017, Mannings sentence was commuted by then-President Barack Obama, allowing the disgraced former Soldier to walk among the populace. The following year, Manning ran for the US Senate as a Democrat in her home state of Maryland, winning only 5.7% of the vote during the primary.

Manning and anti-police sentiment are not a new combination- last year, Manning posted something similar on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

In addition to showing absolutely no support for police, Manning took the cake this year by posting a surveillance video of police searching Mannings empty apartment after the dishonorably-discharged intelligence analyst threatened suicide.

Chelsea Manning Tweets F**k The Police On Law …

On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, activist, whistle-blower and former U.S. Army soldier Chelsea Manning (formerly Bradley Manning) tweeted f**k the police with a picture of a Thin Blue Line Flag burning, and the hashtag #LawEnforcementAppreciationDay.

The rest of Mannings tweet thread read, Yearly reminder we live in a domestic military occupation in every major city.

She then tweeted a link toan article from the Intercept, which reported on the police raid of Mannings home in June2018 after she posted a series of suicidal-sounding tweets with the words: My warrantless welfare check with guns drawn.

Her twosuicide-themed tweets one of which depicted Manning standing on the ledge of a building looking down over it with the caption, Im sorry, as if she were about to jump off that initiated the police search have since been deleted.

Police were conducting a welfare check to confirm that Manning was safe and not a danger to herself, which she apparently took issue with.

Manning posted the same tweet about Law Enforcement Appreciate Day last year with a different image.

Manning served seven years of a 35-year prison sentence for leaking 700,000 sensitive military files to Wikileaks. She was pardoned by President Obama in 2017, despite her blatant and severe act of treason against the U.S. government.

Chelsea Manning again tweets ‘f— the police’ on Law …

Convicted leaker Chelsea Manning showed her lack of support for law enforcement on Wednesday when she tweeted out a photo of a burning Thin Blue Line flag.

"f--- the police," Manningtweeted alongside the photo. "Thin Blue Line" flags are a variation of an American flag that features a thin blue line to represent law enforcement. It's also occasionally seen painted on roads between solid yellow painted lines.

FLASHBACK: 'F--- THE POLICE': CHELSEA MANNING SLAMS COPS ONE YEAR AGO TODAY

The 31-year-old doubled down on the now annual anti-police sentiment. On this day in 2018 Law Enforcement Appreciation Day she tweeted the exact same words.

Manning followed up her tweet with two others, one of which read: "yearly reminder we live in a domestic military occupation in every major city."

She then tweeted a link to an article about surveillance video seemingly capturing police officers breaking into Manning's home when she threatened suicide online.

Manning, a transgender woman and former Army soldier who acknowledged leaking more than 700,000 military and State Department documents to anti-secrecy site WikiLeaks in 2010, is often known to criticize law enforcement.

CHELSEAMANNING LOSES LONGSHOT BID IN MARYLAND DEMOCRATIC SENATE PRIMARY

Speaking at the Royal Institution in London in October, Manning described the U.S. as a "large, big prison."

You think about the surveillance systems, the cameras, or the police presence, and you think about the fact that we have walls around our country, and that is very much the same thing that is inside a prison," Manning said, according to The Guardian. "I see a lot of similarities between the world out here and the world that was in there.

Known as Bradley Manning at the time of her arrest, she came out as transgender after her 2013 court-martial. She was later sentenced in August 2013 to 35 years in prison after she was found guilty of leaking the military and diplomatic documents.

Manning had her sentencecommuted in 2017 by former President Barack Obama.

Fox News' Katherine Lam contributed to this report.

First, Id like to thank you all for your warm love and strong support over the years. You never cease to amaze me with how truly extensive and long-lasting your support has been, and I am always hearing about your messages being posted on social media.

In just the last few weeks, I have needed you all more than ever. It has been a roller coaster for me.

I just filed my appeal a few months ago, where I have asked the judges to dismiss all charges or give me a shorter sentence based on: the harsh solitary confinement conditions before my trial, the admission of vague evidence for sentencing, the lack of evidence on charges of theft of information, the vagueness of the definition of exceeding authorized access under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and the lack of proof by the government that the disclosures actually harmed the United States national security or diplomatic interests.

This last May, I saw my friend Yan for the first time in nearly seven years. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask her. It was great to see her again and be reminded of all my friends in the tech community.

Today, as is obvious in some of the headlines that we see onlinewe are in a constant technological arms race, and I think that its important to realize that we are always only a single breakthrough away from making the methods of network obfuscation and encryption pointless or unusable.

While I agree that its unlikely, it certainly is well within the realm of possibility that we might wake up tomorrow morning and find out that some truly brilliant or devious mathematician or mathematicians have solved the Riemann Hypothesis, throwing entire regions of our encryption arsenal into turmoil. Or, we might wake up and find out that a powerful quantum computer with near perfect error correction has been built, effectively accomplishing the same thing.

Its important to keep our encryption safe in the post-quantum world. Luckily, you dont need to be a quantum math or quantum computer expert in order to be able design stronger algorithms to protect our current encryption methods against quantum attacks. These algorithms are classical, and dont require any kind of complex understanding of anything quantum. We can let the PhDs deal with that.

I am putting together a collection of materials on this topic, and I thought perhaps we could all explore this together during this years Aaron Swartz Day Hackathons.

Using SageMath, an open source python-like mathematics software system, I am hoping to start things off with a generic construct that anyone can easily start working from.

Id like to leave you with a little bit of Sage wisdom from my own life experience so far:

If life gives you endless lemons, then raise capital, industrialize your process, market aggressively, expand everywhere, and totally dominate the lemonade industry.

Much love,

Chelsea

We must stay strong and stay together.

Chelsea Manning (born Bradley Edward Manning, 1987) is a US army soldier who released a large quantity of restricted material to the public in 2010. She was convicted of espionage and sentenced to 35 years in jail in 2013. Barack Obama commutted her sentence in January 2017.

Manning, disgusted both with the homophobic policies in the military and distressed by the intelligence data she was handling, walked into work one day with a blank CD-R with the words LADY GAGA Sharpied onto the label. She put the CD in a MacBook drive, burned the copied confidential material onto the disc and mailed said disc to Julian Assange, owner of the inconveniently blunt website WikiLeaks. What Assange found was possibly the most incriminating examples of American military malfeasance since the Pentagon Papers ruined Nixon's day. Besides a collection of diplomatic cables that opened every dirty closed-door secret on the entire Western military infrastructure (including insights on the boozy sex-capades of Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi), it revealed a portrait of ground-level US troops objectively functioning as war criminals. This, of course, made a lot of people upset at Manning for spoiling their fantasy that the US military had actually been doing something right for a change.

Unfortunately, Manning's whistle-blowing technique of "copy everything and send it out without reading it" wasn't the smartest decision, and it led to the release of documents that, among other things, revealed the names of some of the last remaining Jews residing in Baghdad,[2] where they face heavy persecution and hatred from the city's Muslim majority.

In March 2011, Manning was charged with 22 specifications, including aiding the enemy, wrongfully causing intelligence to be published on the Internet knowing that it was accessible to the enemy, theft of public property or records, and transmitting defense information. On February 28, 2013, a judge accepted guilty pleas to 10 of the 22 specified charges. Later that year, Manning was acquitted of aiding the enemy by knowingly giving out intelligence through indirect means, and was convicted of 19 of the 21 or 22 specified charges, including theft and six counts of espionage.

Manning is a trans woman. Because she made this announcement at roughly the same time that she was convicted for the aforementioned releasing of classified documents, a bunch of people made noise about how she wasn't really transgender, but just trying to get out of serving time in a men's prison. This makes perfect sense, since as we all know, the surest way to avoid bullying is to pretend to be transgender.

Although this was most prominent among ordinary people on the Internet, that bastion of classy journalism Fox News was not above this sort of bullshit. Fox's Jon Scott combined it with a pathetically transparent face-saving "some might say" line:

You know, there are cynics out there, and maybe I'm one of them, who say maybe this is all part of a plan to get, you know, early release or parole or a new trial or something, by maintaining some kind of a ruse here that isn't necessarily the case.

Some within the transgender community, one of the most vocal being Kristin Beck, are also less than thrilled with having to be put into the same category as Manning.[3] In 2014, she successfully was granted a name change by Leavenworth County District Judge David King.[4]

Manning has been denied treatment for her gender dysphoria in prison.[5] She has sued to get treatment for gender dysphoria.[6] Manning has spent more than 9 months in solitary confinement.[7] As a result of her mistreatment in prison, she made two suicide attempts.[8] After her first suicide attempt, she was punished with further time in solitary confinement.[9] She was released in May 2017.

Following her release from prison, Manning has become an activist for government transparency and transgender rights, among other progressive causes. She is running for Senator of Maryland as a Democrat[10].

Chelsea Manning – Interview Magazine

Growing up, Manning was bounced around, from Oklahoma to Wales and back, cared for as often by her sister, Casey, 11 years her senior, as by her parentsboth of whom Casey has characterized as alcoholics. In Leavenworth, Manning, now 28, has access to psychotherapy sessions, radio, and cosmetics, but is strictly limited in access to visitors and cannot go on the internet. She cannot be photographed, interviewed on camera, or speak with journalists in person or on the phone, but can communicate by post. So, in January, I wrote her to tell her about our special April issue celebrating the pathfinders and conscientious among us who are creating new spaces for themselves and for others, and asked her to be a part of it. She very kindly accepted. Here is our correspondence.

CHRIS WALLACE: First of all, how are you? Is there anything that Ior anyonecan or ought to be doing for you?

CHELSEA MANNING: Thank you. I am pushing myself through at the moment. I have a lot on my plate currently: Im waiting for the judges ruling in my lawsuit challenging the military prisons hair-length restrictions; Im still in the process of challenging what I believe to be an unlawful and discriminatory disciplinary board from last year; Ive challenged the Department of Justice and FBI to release the investigative records related to my case; and, most importantly, Im only weeks away from filing the brief in my court-martial appeal. Its an exhausting schedule. As for you and anyone else, I can only ask of those who care about me and the issues in my case to support me and spread the word about what is going on. Donations to my legal defense fund really help, and I think keeping me motivated and spreading the message are also very important.

WALLACE: You wrote recently about how tough the holidays were. How is your day-to-day life? Are there things you particularly look forward to, dread, or are surprised by?

MANNING: Day-to-day life is as simple as it is routinethough my days are often long and very busy. On weekdays, I wake up at about 4:30 each morning. I get dressed, have a cup of coffee, and go to the prison cafeteria for breakfast. Not long after dawn, we show up for work at our day jobs. I work at the prison wood shop. Any legal or medical appointments are scheduled during the workday, too. We have about an hour and a half break for lunch, which is when I make a lot of my phone calls. The workday ends around 4 p.m. When I get back to my cell, I usually have a stack of mail and laundry at the front of the cell. For about an hour, I sort and neatly fold my laundry and read my mail. On a normal day, this includes dozens of cards and letters from supporters, a newspaper, and a handful of magazine subscriptions. Before the evening starts, I eat dinner. The rest of the day is filled with recreation. This includes the library, where I type up legal papers, letters, and assignments for college correspondence courses. I also like to run and do HIIT-style exercises during gym and outside recreation hoursbut I recently took a break for a few months because of the hormone treatments. I have only just started doing these routines again in the past couple weeks. There are very few distinctions between el bueno and el malo en la prisin militar. Instead of the good and the bad, there is the boring and la repeticinthe repetitive. The routine is as endless as it is numbing. Its like Groundhog Day [1993], except that I am getting older.

Chelsea Manning Tried Committing Suicide a Second Time in …

Since her suicide attempt in October, Ms. Manning, 28, has been released from the special observation unit and returned to the general inmate population, and can again receive mail and make phone calls. Still, two members of the support network said Ms. Manning had told them that she continued to see the attackers who posed as guards around the prison until Oct. 27.

Dr. Stuart Grassian, a psychiatrist who is a specialist in the psychiatric effects of solitary confinement, said it was a mistake to subject people who have exhibited irrational behavior to the stresses of isolation the way the military does in punishing suicidal inmates by placing them in solitary confinement.

Dr. Grassian cautioned that he did not know Ms. Manning and had not examined her, but said that a classic symptom experienced by inmates held in solitary confinement, especially if they were fragile to begin with, is a form of delirium whose characteristics include hallucinations, paranoia, intense agitation and confusion.

While in Iraq, Ms. Manning was cited for responding with disproportionately angry outbursts when she was chastised over minor misconduct; went catatonic at times while talking; and was found in the fetal position with a knife, witnesses said. Yet her supervisor never pulled her from the secure facility where she had access to classified information or recommended filing a report that could have revoked her security clearance.

That supervisor, then a master sergeant, was demoted for failing to alert commanders of the warning signs. At Ms. Mannings trial, he testified that he was reluctant to do more than refer her for mental health counseling because she was performing valuable analysis of intelligence about Shiite insurgents that was helping to save soldiers lives.

After her arrest, Ms. Manning was flagged as a suicide risk and held in the Marine Corps brig in Quantico, Va. She was placed under austere conditions that the military said were necessary to prevent her from harming herself even after military psychologists said it was no longer necessary. A military court-martial judge later ruled the move had been unlawful, and after a high-level Pentagon intervention, she was transferred to Fort Leavenworth.

After her conviction, she announced that she wanted to be known as Chelsea Manning and referred to by female pronouns. In 2014, she legally changed her name from Bradley to Chelsea. In response to a federal lawsuit, the military began letting her receive hormone therapy, but houses her with male inmates and does not let her grow her hair.

Ms. Mannings 35-year sentence is the longest ever imposed for providing government secrets to the public. The documents she disclosed, which made her a hero to open-government activists, included diplomatic cables from American embassies around the world, incident logs from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, intelligence dossiers about Guantnamo Bay detainees and a video of a helicopter airstrike in Baghdad in which two Reuters journalists were killed. WikiLeaks made them public, working with various news organizations, including The Times.
