Bitcoin Scammers Claim To Have Compromising Videos Of Victims – Yonkers Daily Voice

Bitcoin scammers have been threatening to expose sensitive videos of their victims if they are not paid off.

Fraudsters have been sending spam emails that allege they have recorded video of you getting yourself off, which they threaten to expose if they are not paid off.

The emails claim that the scammer is from out of the country, and cannot be targeted by local law enforcement.

Scammers allege that based on their potential victims visiting bad websites that infected computers with malware, they now have video of lewd acts that they threaten to share with friends and family.

In order to obviate the disgrace for the term of life, you should send 18 Dash coins to a certain address, and your prestige will not be damaged, the fraudsters wrote in an email to Daily Voice.

The scammers offer a 24-hour deadline to transfer the bitcoin, with the compromising video allegedly being disseminated within 48 hours.

The FBIs Internet Crime Complaint Center said it has seen an increase in reports of online extortion scams during the current "stay-at-home" orders due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Because large swaths of the population are staying at home and likely using the computer more than usual, scammers may use this opportunity to find new victims and pressure them into sending money, they wrote in a report.

The scammers are sending emails threatening to release sexually explicit photos or personally compromising videos to the individual's contacts if they do not pay. While there are many variations of these online extortion attempts, they often share certain commonalities.

Most-wanted Wirecard executive reportedly owns significant sums of Bitcoin Report – Yahoo Finance

The former chief operating officer at disgraced payments firm Wirecard has reportedly transferred "significant sums" of bitcoin following his escape from Germany, according to reporting by a leading German business newspaper Handelsblatt.

Jan Marsalek was a key figure behind the breakdown of Germany-based Wirecard, which has made headlines for filing for insolvency and allegations of improper accounting tied to billions of dollars that went missing from its balance sheet.

The transfer of bitcoin suggests Marsalek is now in Russia. As per German publication Handelsblatt, Marsalek has been missing for weeks and he "is said to have brought significant sums to Russia in the form of bitcoins from Dubai, where Wirecard had dubious operations" as per a translation of a Sunday evening report.

Marsaleks fascination with cryptocurrencies has been documented, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

"Mr. Marsalek liked engaging in late-night discussions about cryptocurrencies and their ability to move money without a trace," a July report noted.

Protesters Gather Near Mayor’s Home Following Clash With Police in Grant Park – WTTW News

Protesters and police gather in the Logan Square neighborhood on Saturday, July 18, 2020. (@soit_goes / Twitter)

Hundreds of protesters gathered near Mayor Lori Lightfoots Logan Square home late Saturday, continuing calls to defund the Chicago Police Department, end police presence in Chicago Public Schools and demand the district reverse stated plans to reopen schools in the fall amid the COVID-19 pandemic and instead implement fully remote learning.

Alycia Kamil, an activist with the organization GoodKids MadCity, said with CPS current plan to reopen schools, Lightfoot is putting childrens health at risk, and not taking into consideration the lack of access most Black and Brown students have when it comes to tools at home such as laptops or even internet access.

Police in riot gear barricaded the mayors block and a CPD armored vehicle was present as activists marched, chanted, sang and danced in the blocks surrounding the mayors home.

They come with war ready tactics for some unarmed teenagers, Kamil said. Its ridiculous. Ive become desensitized to war and scare tactics which is so worrisome to me because I know it can only really get worse.

In what has become a signature tactic at recent protests, activists looked up badge numbers of officers present at the scene and read aloud from an online database allegations of abuse and misconduct against those officers.

Saturday nights demonstration marked a comparatively peaceful follow-up to the events of Friday night, when an attempt by protesters to tear down the Christopher Columbus statue in Grant Park took a violent turn. Activists say police used tear gas on the crowd and beat some participants; according to a statement from CPD, some protesters threw frozen water bottles, cans and rocks at police officers, who were clad in riot gear.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability announced Saturday afternoon it had opened investigations into the most egregious complaints alleging police misconduct during Fridays protests.

Residents of this City have a right to exercise their First Amendment rights, COPA Chief Administrator Sydney Roberts said in a statement. As the civilian led oversight body of the Chicago Police Department we take every complaint seriously, conduct our investigations with the utmost integrity and remain accountable to the residents of this City.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot addressed Friday nights protests in a statement, saying her administration had been in the process of developing a plan for public monuments as well as condemning violence on the part of both activists and police officers.

It is my sincere hope that we can strike the right balance to ensure people can rightfully express themselves and their First Amendment rights, but to do so in a way that does not put anyones physical safety at risk, Lightfoot said.

Among those making allegations of police brutality is 18-year-old Miracle Boyd, who was captured on cellphone video getting hit in the face by a CPD officer, which knocked out and broke Boyds front teeth.

Boyd and other members of GoodKids MadCity announced they will hold a press conference on Monday to discuss the clash with police in Grant Park.

These Two Cryptocurrency Marks For In Which Way The Bitcoin Is Headed – Inventiva

For the last few weeks, we know that the cryptocurrency market is going into a ride as a lot of new coins are being introduced. While zCash is making the run for correction in the bitcoin price rising, XLM is making up for the leading run-ups in the market.

The flagship to which the cryptocurrency is headed is being determined by a lot of factors. For the current part, the flagship between Bitcoin and the other altcoins are making the round.

It is a highly correlated and dependant market

When the price of a bitcoin rises then subsequently, the price of the other altcoins rises as well. This happens because they are dependable and connected. Crypto is a group of a bonded chain which are connected.

With all the elements present in the cryptocurrency, every crypto has its own value. Data from the Crypto watch have said the following. The BTC between the following bitcoin and other altcoins are correlated. There is a completely linear relationship between the cryptocurrency.

ZCash and XLM making turns for the new business

For the future of the new business, ZCash and XLM are making a variety of turns.

ZCash on one hand can lead to the downturn fall of the cryptocurrency market. Each time the ZEC value of the coins market rises, the bitcoin does not follow. The same does not happen with XLM. XLM is a completely alternative where the price and the value might surge with the surge in the value of bitcoins.

There is a complete upswing in the market of the bitcoin industry

The bitcoin industry is highly fragile and there is a completely uptight condition in the market and the other key factors. There is a 100-day average moving correlation period on which the moving speed of bitcoin is judged.

But the thing is, the value of bitcoin is dependent on both factors. There are the short term priced features and even the long term ones. Dependant on the idea, there is a list of fundamental objectives that can determine the actual value of Bitcoin for trading over time.

Samsung Added Support for Stellar (XLM) Cryptocurrency to its Blockchain Keystore, Allows Millions of Users to Access the Digital Asset – Crowdfund…

The Stellar Development Foundation (SDF), a non-profit entity established in 2014 to support the development and growth of the open-source Stellar (XLM) protocol, recently announced that Samsung added support for the XLM digital currency to its Samsung Blockchain Keystore.

XLM (or lumens) is now available to blockchain or distributed ledger tech (DLT) apps on recent Galaxy smartphones.

As mentioned in the announcement:

To make storage of Stellar lumens and other Stellar-based assets safer, SatoshiPay will utilize the Samsung Blockchain Keystore in its Solar wallet and its upcoming SatoshiPay B2B mobile app.

According to the release, Samsung observed that many of its customers were using blockchain-enabled apps, so the electronics giant decided to leverage its hardware advantage to launch a first instalment of their blockchain strategy.

Last year, the electronics firm introduced the Samsung Blockchain Keystore, which is a hardware-protected storage facility for private keys associated with crypto-assets.

Samsungs keystore has been physically isolated from the shared data storage available on smartphones and other mobile devices using the Samsung Knox TrustZone hardware facility.

Samsung has certified the apps that have access to the keystore. Users are able to link the app to the keystore initially, by using a password or some form of biometric authentication like their fingerprints.

As noted in the announcement:

The keystore is available on selected recent Samsung Galaxy devices, like S10, S20 or Note10, and in selected regions. App developers can integrate the keystore by using the official Samsung Blockchain Keystore SDK.

Blockchains presently being supported by the SDK (software development kit) include: Ethereum (v1.0, 27 Jun 2019), Bitcoin (v1.1, 8 Aug 2019), Klaytn (v1.1, 8 Aug 2019), Tron (v1.2, 29 Oct 2019), and Stellar (v1.3, 17 Feb 2020).

(For more details about the keystore and related information, check here.)

As mentioned in the release, the SatoshiPay B2B cross-border money transfer service may be accessed via a standard web interface. It will also be accessible as a stand-alone application in the future. This cross-platform software will reportedly use a similar approach to Solar (Stellar wallet software) for users that want to be sole custodians of their own private keys.

A breakdown of the lawsuit against federal agencies over their protest response

by: Sheridan Kowta, KOIN 6 News Staff

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum filed a lawsuit Friday against federal law enforcement agencies over the tactics they have used at protests while deployed in Portland, which includes allegedly seizing and detaining protesters without probable cause. On Sunday, she spoke with KOIN 6 News about the demands of the lawsuit and how she believes federal officers are escalating the violence.

I think every American needs to be concerned about whats happening here in Portland. These federal agencies are operating with no transparency and against the will of just about every leader in our state, Rosenblum said. We took a look at this because things seemed, by Friday morning, not to be improving.

Part of the lawsuit includes a request for declarations that the tactics used by federal agents are in violation of both the First Amendment and the Fourth Amendment.

We are asking that there be a declaration that their conduct, that their tactics are in violation of the First Amendment: peoples rights to protest, peoples rights to be on the streets, to be declaring their opposition to police brutality, to racial injustices, said Rosenblum. And so, that is what is known as a prior restraint on a persons right to conduct themselves publicly in this manner under the First Amendment.

Rosenblum referenced unreasonable seizures in instances where people were allegedly grabbed off the street and put in unmarked rental carsa story first published by Oregon Public Broadcasting.

These are not people who are being found to be engaging in illegal conduct at the time that they are grabbed. In fact, one young man was just simply walking home after the protestMr. Pettibone, whose affidavit is included in our complaint that we filed, said Rosenblum.

She said the lawsuit specifically asks for a ruling from the court that permanently restrains federal officers from engaging in these tactics and requires them to do three things:

Not to arrest individuals without probable cause or a warrant; identifying themselves and their agency before detaining or arresting anyone; explaining to any person detained or arrested that the person is being detained or arrested and the basis for the action, Rosenblum said.

This is a very straight-forward lawsuit, she said.

It was filed Friday night, and her office also plans to file a motion for a temporary restraining order in the coming days.

We believe strongly that the deployment of federal law enforcement in Portland has nothing to do with public safety and in fact, is actually escalating the dangerous situation here in our town and we wanted to do something to try to help, said Rosenblum.

Almost One-Third of Life Science Companies Set to Begin Quantum Computing Evaluation This Year – Lab Manager Magazine

BOSTON, MA July 14, 2020 New survey results fromthe Pistoia Alliance, the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C) and QuPharm show almost one-third (31 percent) of life science organizations polled are set to begin quantum computing evaluation this year. A further 39 percent are planning to evaluate next year or have quantum computing on their radar, while 30 percent have no current plans to evaluate.

The three organizations have collaborated to establish a cross-industry Community of Interest (CoI) to explore the opportunities for quantum computing to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of biopharma R&D. The CoI aims to support companies that need help navigating the pathway to quantum computing and will facilitate collaboration between stakeholders, propose new ideas for quantum computing projects, and help interested parties define and articulate potential use cases.

The interest in quantum computing across many sectors is high, yet most biopharmaceutical companies are only just beginning the journey and exploring the potential for accelerating discovery, commented Emir Roach, one of the leaders of QuPharm. Quantum computing is a completely new paradigm of computing, and our mission is to accelerate its implementation in life sciences. We are looking forward to working with the Pistoia Alliance and QED-C to help educate the life science and health care industry on the benefits.

The survey showed that more than four out of five respondents (82 percent) believe quantum computing will impact the industry within the next decade. The same proportion of respondents believe discovery and development will be first to benefit from quantum computing deployments in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Quantum computing is likely to have a profound impact on precision medicine, enabling accelerated genomics and proteomics correlation, as well as the calculation of multiple probabilities and outcomes. It will also help organizations deliver new molecules and therapies to market faster by streamlining the discovery process and enabling quantum energy calculations for molecules, as predicted in the Pistoia Alliances 2030 vision report. In the future, such technology could help the industry more quickly and accurately model disease pathways caused by novel coronaviruses.

The CoI has come together to help organizations address the key issues that need to be solved if the extraordinary benefits of quantum computing are to be realized. Potential barriers identified in the survey include a shortage of skills and a lack of access to quantum computing infrastructure (both cited by 28 percent of respondents) and the need for clearly defined use cases (31 percent).

There are myriad opportunities for quantum computing in life sciences and health care, and through this community of interest the pharmaceutical and quantum computing sectors can work together to identify and communicate areas of early and high potential, commented Celia Merzbacher, deputy director at QED-C. While quantum computing is still emerging, now is the time to jointly define use cases and challenges in pharmaceutical discovery and development that quantum computing can address. Better understanding of the pharmaceutical bottlenecks can accelerate quantum computing hardware and software development for overcoming those.

Given the interest in quantum computing amongst our members, we wanted to create the community of interest to address their needs and questions. We are now looking for more companies to get involved and commit resources to help us explore use cases, commented John Wise, a member of the Pistoia Alliance Operations Team supporting the new quantum computing CoI. The shared-risk, shared-reward advantages of pre-competitive collaboration are an ideal way for companies to explore the opportunities and challenges of quantum computing. Those organisations that do not begin to evaluate quantum computing now are at risk of being left behind once its value is realized. Those that are equipped to adopt the technology when it matures will be significantly ahead.

The research survey was conducted at the Community of Interests inaugural webinar in June 2020. More than 240 attendees from life science and quantum computing organisations across the US and Europe participated. To find out more about the CoI and help to steer future projects on quantum computing, please contact John Wise at the Pistoia Alliance via john.wise@pistoiaalliance.org or Celia Merzbacher via celia.merzbacher@sri.com.

Another view: What is driving the Justice Department’s decision to go after Google? – Amarillo.com

Bloomberg

For months, President Donald Trumps Justice Department has hinted that it intends to crack down on Silicon Valley. It recently took a big step closer as senior antitrust officials met with their state counterparts to plot out a case against Alphabet Inc.s Google. What they plan to argue isnt quite yet clear. But as the final months of Trumps first term wind down, and an election draws near, some exceptional skepticism is in order.

One reason for caution is that Attorney General William Barr has not exactly been a disinterested enforcer of competition law. Quite the opposite: In recent testimony, a senior Justice Department whistle-blower described how Barr pressured antitrust prosecutors to harass automakers (and others) for transparently political reasons.

Now, according to news reports, Barr has taken an unusual interest in the Google case. Why? In a recent interview with Fox News, he intimated that he hopes to use antitrust law to punish tech companies for censoring conservative viewpoints, a frequent preoccupation of Trumps. Never mind that this accusation is false, and that tech companies would be entirely within their rights to so discriminate if they chose. The whole thing has nothing to do with antitrust.

Perhaps Barr was musing idly, and perhaps the department has more legitimate objections in mind. But even under more traditional theories of competition law, Google makes an odd target.

Feasibly, a case might be made against its dominance of the online advertising market, for instance. Combined with Facebook, Google took in about 60% of digital ad spending last year. Yet theres no law against building a good product. And with pressure rising from Amazon and other contenders, online ad rates have fallen by more than 40% over the past decade. That doesnt look like a market lacking in competition.

Nor could anyone credibly argue that Google has harmed consumers, the standard traditionally applied in antitrust analysis. To the contrary, it gives them (among other things) access to limitless email, a smartphone operating system, innovative mapping software and a search engine that ranks among the greatest inventions of the last century all for free. Its targeted advertising has been a boon to businesses big and small. Thats to say nothing of its work on driverless cars, quantum computing or esoteric life-extension technologies.

Even an otherwise blameless company shouldnt get a pass for anticompetitive behavior, of course. And some allege that Google has unfairly privileged its own products, pursued harmful mergers and engaged in other dubious conduct. If the Justice Department imposed targeted remedies for such violations after a transparent investigation, it would be entirely appropriate.

Yet the Trump administration has suggested nothing of the sort publicly. If its track record is any guide, this case is more likely to amount to a political attack with a belabored legal rationale attached. Even if its motives are pure, the administration should be wary: Government intervention in a market where no obvious harm has been caused to consumers and in pursuit of vague or unrelated objectives is a recipe for disaster.

The fact is, for all the criticism leveled at tech companies, they employ hundreds of thousands of people, create immensely useful products, propel what growth the American economy still enjoys and are among the most trusted brands going. They need to follow the rules like everyone else. But abusing antitrust law to clobber them for electoral gain wont end well for anyone.
