Wikileaks Had A Great Response To The CIA Joining Twitter

There were myriad reactions to the CIA joining Twitter on Friday, but the radical transparency website Wikileaks had a great response that probably irritated the intelligence agency often operating in the shadows.

The Wikileaks Twitter account, which many believe to be controlled by founder Julian Assange, welcomed the CIA with this:

The CIA account did not respond. But there's little doubt Wikileaks has become a thorn in the side of the U.S. intelligence community. Relying on a cache of documents stolen by Chelsea Manning and others, the organization hasshared of hundreds of thousands of classified documents relating to Guantanamo Bay, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and diplomatic cables.

With this particular tweet, the links Wikileaks shared were to an internal CIA analysis on public relations strategies to gin up support in Europe for the war in Afghanistan, and another report looking at the possibility that the U.S. could be perceived by foreigners as exporting terrorism.

The last link, to search results for "CIA" on the Wikileaks, yields 112,200 results.Ouch.

Wikileaks document shows contradictory reports of Bergdahl’s capture

WASHINGTON, June 6 (UPI) --WikiLeaks has released a document containing intercepted Taliban communication stating that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl had not left the base when he was captured.

The document suggests that Bergdahl was relieving himself when he was taken by Taliban militants.

"We were attacking the post he was sitting taking expletive he had no gun with him," the document reads under an entry from July 1, 2009.

It is the same document referenced in a 2012 Rolling Stone article by the late Michael Hastings, titled "America's Last Prisoner of War", that suggest Bergdahl's actions had little to do with his capture.

The document contradicts itself, it also reports that "an American Soldier with a camera is looking for someone who speaks English."

Bergdahl is currently recovering and is receiving medical care at a military hospital. A military review conducted after his capture suggests he simply left base at night.

WikiLeaks document backs up U.S. soldier’s claim Bowe Bergdahl tried to contact Taliban

Days after the disappearance of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, U.S. soldiers intercepted radio communications revealing that an American soldier in a nearby village was looking for someone to help him communicate in English with unknown agents, according to the 28-year-old Idahoan's former team leader.

"I heard it straight from the interpreter's lips as he heard it over the radio," former Army Sgt. Evan Buetow, who served in Bergdahl's unit, said Tuesday in a CNN interview. "There's a lot more to this story than a soldier walking away."

And official military documents from 2009, which were obtained and released by WikiLeaks, would appear to corroborate Buetow's story.

[A]n American Soldier with a camera is looking for someone who speaks English, the documents read.

Later, in the same document dump, U.S. armed forces reported intercepting the following radio conversation between Taliban operatives:

1- [We] ARE READY FOR THEM.

2- ALL THE NUMBERS ARE MESS IT. WE ARE WWAITING FOR THEM.

1- LOL THEY KNOW WHERE HE IS BUT THEY KEEP GOING TO WRONG AREA.

2- OK SET UP THE WORK FOR THEM.
