Earlier generation networks would have difficulty performing such operations because of speed and bandwidth limitations. 5G connectivity has played an important role in China's response to the crisis and this is one of the reasons why China, despite the economic turmoil, is accelerating the development of new infrastructure, including the rollout of 5G. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China has over 200,000 operational 5G base stations as of mid-May and the country is expected to build another 600,000 5G base stations by the end of this year.
