Kline School students talk to Commander Kevin Ford on the International Space Station Dec 6, 2012
This is at my nephew Mattie #39;s school, The Kline School, in Costa Mesa, CA. They have worked incredibly hard for over a year to set up a visit with the International Space Station and it actually happened!! It was through Ham Operators and a program with the ISS... My nephew, Mattie, is the first to ask a question - but before then, you can hear the Ham operator near Rome connecting to Commander Kevin Ford on the International Space Station... You can see I was hand holding the camera at first and then set it on a surface to stabilize the image... I also was sooo excited that I turned the movie off before Commander Ford had finished his answer - which occurred to me as I was pulling the camera away - so I started the record button back up and got the remaining answer in another clip which I added on... I think it was maybe more exciting for us older folks than it was for the kids in a way, since many of us have been alive for the the whole space program. I am so thrilled that Mattie is at such an incredible school, that would even try to pull this off - much less do it so incredibly well, and as part of their curriculum that is constantly innovative and creative...
