Designing Tomorrow #39;s Healthcare Systems INTRODUCTION Lehigh University #39;s PC Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science has introduced a new professional masters degree program in healthcare systems engineering in the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE). This need was clearly delineated in a recent report "Building a Better Delivery System: A New Engineering/Health Care Partnership" authored jointly by the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Engineering which urged the healthcare field to embrace systems engineering to deliver safe, effective, timely, patient-centered, efficient and equitable care. Why Healthcare Systems Engineering? This concentrated degree program is designed to prepare graduate students for engineering and management careers in organizations engaged in delivering healthcare and health related products and services. The need for professionals in this area is strong and growing due to the aging of the population and a national crisis of rapidly increasing healthcare costs. Healthcare has been one of the main topics in the news over the past few years.
