AllSports Medicine - Concussion Diagnosis
Concussion occurs after a head injury and the symptoms most often involve headache, "foggy" type feeling, loss of balance, and emotional ability. If a player has been injured and complains of concussion type symptoms, they should be watched very closely and should not be left alone over the first few hours following the injury. If the player has persistent vomiting, a headache that is getting worse, or if they have difficulty with vision or any abnormality in their ability to walk or communicate then they should be taken to an appropriate Emergency Center immediately. Players who suffer from a concussion should not return to play until they have been evaluated by a Physician. The physician will take a history of the incident and the patients symptoms. They will also test the patients balance, coordination, and memory. At the AllSports medicine concussion clinic we use ImPACT testing which is a computerized neuro-cognitive test that helps by providing objective data which helps us further evaluate a concussed athletes injury. Our goal is to get you back to the game as quickly and safely as possible.
