Having served as a nursing home medical director for over 20 years, this experience gave me a keen insight into what goes into the selection of a senior care facility. Making this decision for an alternative living senior environment for yourself or a loved one is an immense challenge and one that can be emotionally overwhelming and life altering. As one begins the search, keep these three things in mind and set priorities to evaluate each of these items: 1) Identify the health care and social needs of the individual, 2) Consider which type of environment would best meet these needs, 3) Is "aging in place" a priority? There are five key tasks to perform when making a selection of a Nursing Home, Assisted living, or any other senior care facilities. 1.
