New Jersey Democrats want a massive 8 cent a gallon increase in the Gas Tax

From Forbes "NJ Gov. Christie vows to reject gas tax increase" May 11:

Legislation proposed by Democratic Assemblyman Albert Coutinho of Newark would raise the gas tax by 8 cents a gallon a year for three years, then increase the levy annually based on the rate of inflation.

The Governor is instead proposing using funds from the abandoned commuter rail tunnel to Manhattan, to replace the shortfall. And he's letting lawmakers know that he would fight like hell to halt any gas tax increase.

"When they say they only want to raise taxes on some people, keep your hand on your wallet, because they're coming for you next," the Republican governor warned a friendly audience of 350 at the Blue Barn in Evesham.
