Libertarian Party’s 1980 V.P. candidate makes big contribution to Republican Governors

Ben Smith over at Politico has reported that David Koch, 1980 Libertarian Party Vice-Presidential candidate, has participated in a huge donation to the Republican Governors Association. News Corp, parent company of both Fox News and the NY Daily News, gave the RGA $1 million. According to the spokesman for the group Jack Horner, "News Corporation believes in the power of free markets, and the RGA’s pro-business agenda."

The $1 million contribution this June 24 was first reported by Bloomberg and appears on the RGA's July 15 filing with the Internal Revenue Service.

The group's other seven-figure donor is the libertarian billionaire David Koch.

Koch a Libertarian Party activist through the 1970s, ran with Ed Clark on the 1980 ticket. Together they appeared on all 50 state ballots and received 922,000 votes (1.1%), the largest vote total ever for the Libertarian Party.
