Visceral fat is more commonly known as belly fat, and it tends to wrap around your internal organs.

"Visceral fat responds well to regular endurance exercises, such as running, biking, rowing, swimming, that elevate your heart rate. As your body uses fat to fuel exercise, itll start using up your visceral stores."

Meanwhile, you could also lose your visceral fat by adopting a low-carb diet, it's been claimed.

Low-carb diet plans aim to limit the amount of carbohydrates you're eating, including potatoes, bread, and pasta.

Swapping your refined carbs for nutrient-rich carbohydrates - including fruit and vegetables - helps to reduce your visceral fat.

Without refined carbohydrates, your body begins to burn fat for fuel, which is ideal for those wanting to lose belly fat.

Visceral fat starts to cause health problems straight away.

It increases your risk of developing serious, long-term life-threatening medical conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, and strokes.

You should consider speaking to a doctor if your waist is more than 40 inches for men, or 35 inches for women.

Your GP will discuss the health risks of belly fat, as well as some lifestyle changes to get rid of it.
