Fred L. Brown Chosen as Inductee to Modern Healthcare's Health Care Hall of Fame 2014

Modern Healthcare announced that Fred L. Brown was chosen as one of the latest inductees for the Health Care Hall of Fame. He joins only 95 other healthcare achievers to be honored since the inception of the Hall of Fame in 1988.

Mr. Browns healthcare career spans nearly 50 years. A noted advocate for Americas hospitals and healthcare organizations, he has served in many prominent leadership roles, and currently serves as a member of Sandlot Solutions Board of Directors and of Santa Rosa Consultings Advisory Board.

From 1993 to 1998, Mr. Brown served as the principal architect and founding president and chief executive officer of BJC Healthcare in St. Louis, and served as BJCs vice chairman from 1999-2000 during his tenure as Chair of American Hospital Association. Under his leadership, BJC developed a comprehensive healthcare network featuring 14 acute care hospitals, seven long term care facilities, 200 care sites, 30,000 caregivers and physicians, and health plans covering more than 200,000 lives.

Mr. Brown is past President of the Washington University Medical Center, a past Governor and Regent of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and past Chairman for the American Protestant Health Association, the Missouri Hospital Association, the Hospital Association of St. Louis, and the Chancellors Council of the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In 1999, he was a member of President Clintons Senior Advisors Council on Y2K. He also served as immediate past chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Joint Commission and past chairman of the National Kidney Foundation.

Mr. Brown has received numerous awards and honors from organizations such as the American Academy of Medical Administration, the American College of Chaplains, the American College of Healthcare Executives, Bnai Brith, Boy Scouts of America, George Washington University, the Missouri Hospital Association, Sigma Chi Fraternity, United Way, University of Missouri-St. Louis NKF and VHA, Inc. In April 2008, he was awarded the highest honor given by the American Hospital Association, The Distinguished Service Award.
