The HwIE is similar in concept to a Health Information Exchange (HIE) where patients Electronic Health Record (EHR) information is communicated across organizations. This exchange of information results in more effective talent development and utilization across the entire continuum of care. It also allows organizations to operate more efficiently by driving down healthcare costs.
