Is Iran Really Winning the War With Unauthorized Online Gambling sites? – Tunf.com News

It was a valiant effort against recalcitrant online gambling sites and maybe Iran really is winning the war.

The unauthorized sites increase cybercrime, according to top cybercop GeneralVahid Majid, and it is growing year by year.

Gambling in any form is strictly illegal in the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the authorities even targeting state televisions version oftheWho Wants To Be A Millionairegame show.

The FATA cyber police unit was formed in 2011 and has since been hot on the sites trail. Majid made the comments at a recent press conference to warn the public that promoting online gambling on social media or digital channels would have repercussions.

Majic said that FATA targeted 6,157 sites and 730 websites engaged in such activities, resulting in 2,884 judicial actions. Clearly it has been on track. In October of 2019, pre-pandemic, Majid was celebrating the disruption of61 online gambling sites.

Early this year, the FATA chief in Hamadan province warned the public that:

Anyone who wants to bet on cyberspace is guilty according to the law and will be dealt with.

It is a long prison for errant Iranian nationals (up to six months) as well as 74 lashes if caught in illegal gambling.

Gambling operators can face up to two years or longer for repeat offenders

The bulk of Iran-facing gambling operations are conducted from outside the country to avoid such punishment.

The primary base of operations for betting sites is said to be Turkey using aa stable of Farsi-speaking Instagram influencers and some popular hip-hop artists to pitch the best online action.

Thankfully, these sites have no direct access to Irans banking system, so customers have to deal with third-parties to convert Iranian tomans into digital currency.
