Mike Mason, Weathermatic CEO, Joins the Freedom Alliance for the 2012 Army-Navy Weekend and Defender of Freedom Dinner

DALLAS, Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Mike Mason, Weathermatic President and CEO, traveled to Philadelphia on December 6 to celebrate the annual Army-Navy weekend. Mr. Mason was most enthusiastic about the Freedom Alliance Defender of Freedom Dinner, held on December 7 at the city's historic National Guard Armory.

The dinner featured the presentation of the Edward J. Bronars Defender of Freedom Award, which is given each year to an individual who courageously and faithfully upholds freedom and the Constitution in the face of hardship. This year's award was given to Sergeant First Class and Medal of Honor Recipient Sammy Davis, who bravely served in Vietnam and rescued his fellow soldiers while under heavy attack.

Robert Beausoleil, president and owner of Philadelphia-based Aquarius Supply and one of Weathermatic's biggest distributors, has attended the Defender of Freedom dinner for three consecutive years. "Meeting the veterans, especially the three surviving members of Thomas Edison Highschool, was very impactful. ROTC students from Philadelphia University were sitting at our table, and it was nice to see every age of veterans," said Mr. Beausoleil.

Mike Mason has served on the board of directors for the Freedom Alliance for fifteen years and commits himself to serving this non-profit organization. Created by Lieutenant Colonel Ollie North, USMC in 1990, the Freedom Alliance gratefully provides educational opportunities and support to service members and their families. Through the Support Our Troops program, they recognize and support Armed Forces members and their families.

Even in the midst of leading Weathermatic, Mike Mason has passionately desired success for the Scholarship Fund, one of the founding visions for the Freedom Alliance. This fund provides educational scholarships for the sons and daughters of Armed Forces members who have been disabled or wounded serving our country, and has created a $20 million endowment that now guarantees scholarships to all eligible scholarship applicants. "That every single student who applies for a scholarship receives it is the most unimaginable and humbling thing for me," says Mason. "It is only by the hand of God that we are able to offer that kind of generosity."

Although he has helped lead the Freedom Alliance for fifteen years, the recent death of his friend and Regional Sales Manager Matt Piper made serving others an even higher priority for Mike Mason. Weathermatic leadership rewrote company values, and spurred by Mason's passion for serving others, started the Save Water | Give Life program to help provide clean drinking water to countries devastated by the disease, economic losses, impeded education, and gender inequality stemming from dirty drinking water and poor hygiene.

In this way, Mike Mason is committed to caring for and serving people in need, whether American citizens helped by the Freedom Alliance or people worldwide who need clean water to drink. It is due to such commitment to philanthropy that clients like Rob Beausoleil trust Weathermatic for their irrigation needs.
