Freedom and Parkland tie for most Freddy Award nominations

Freedom High School's production of "Les Miserables" and Parkland's "Phantom of the Opera" tied for the most 2013 Freddy Award nominations, with 15 each, it was announced today.

Nazareth High School's "Anything Goes" had the second-most nominations with 11. Southern Lehigh's "42nd Street" and Notre Dame's "The Music Man" tied for third with 10 nominations each.

Wilson Area High School led the smaller schools with six nominations for its production of "Fiddler on the Roof."

Twenty-seven of the 30 participating schools from Lehigh, Northampton and Warren counties received at least one nomination.

The Freddy Awards, in its 11th year, recognize outstanding high school musical theater. Awards will be presented live in a Tony Awards-style ceremony 7 p.m. May 23 at Easton's State Theatre, which is broadcast on WFMZ-TV.

State Theatre Executive Director Shelley Brown and Ed Hanna, WFMZ-TV meteorologist, announced the nominees during the station's noon broadcast today. There are 21 categories, including acting, dancing, scenery and lighting.
