A local woman comes forward, describing how she became sterilized by the state. Lillie Salmons had two children before the age of 18. Her parents took care of the children and went to the state for help. Medical and psychological doctors came up with a solution to sterilize the teen. The procedure had negative life-long affects on Lillie. Between 1929 and 1974, 7600 men, women and children were sterilized in North Carolina. It was all part of the state #39;s former Eugenics Board Program. North Carolina lawmakers approved 0000 per survivor of the Eugenics Program. But this summer, the compensation was cut from the state budget.The fight isn #39;t over for those hoping for monetary compensation, but it will unlikely be attained this year. There are still thousands of victims in North Carolina who have not been identified. The Sterilization Victims Foundation is continuing to receive verification inquiries from people who feel that they were impacted by the state #39;s former Eugenics Board program.
