Middleground Farm Tilapia Breeders
We are breeding tilapia fry and fingerlings for other aquapons. All of these breeders are blue tilapia by DNA, though they have been selectively bred for white coloration, as white fish have greater plate appeal. The first shot is of our best female mouth brooding, oh, 300ish eggs, followed by a look at the remaining female and male in our breeding colony before we return to a side view of Big Momma #39;s fry pouch. We created a number of colonies last year, and finally settled on this one for color, temperament (males can be quite aggressive --way beyond what is necessary) and body shape. Our #39;best #39; female has a more pronounced forehead rise than the other female. We think this shape is an advantage when raising tilapia for food, as it means a thicker body which in turn makes for nicer fillets and steaks. Also, we like Big Momma because she tends to keep the fry in her mouth until they pass the swim-up stage, and due to her wide jaw, she tends to incubate a lot of eggs. Safe and efficient. Excellent! As for this male, we like his gentle approach with the ladies. He, too, has a nice forehead rise. From:Esmaa Self of Middleground FarmViews:2 0ratingsTime:00:22More inPets Animals
