Markstrom Pitches Fourth Shutout in Comets 1-0 Win

November 5, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL) Utica Comets Jacob Markstrom pitched his fourth shutout of the year as the Comets blanked the Binghamton Senators 1-0 on Wednesday night at The Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Markstrom stole the show and excited The AUD faithful yet again. The Swedish goaltender ended up stopping all 19 shots faced and recorded his fourth shutout in six games.

The physicality between the two teams presented itself early on in the first period with the teams' combining for 38 penalty minutes, 20 of which were fighting majors.

The Comets got all the scoring they would need just 13:41 into the game. Dustin Jeffrey broke into the zone after receiving a pass from Bobby Sanguinetti. Jeffrey slid a centering feed to Jensen, who popped the puck past Binghamton's Andrew Hammond for his fourth goal of the year.

"It could have gone either way, it was the small little details that made the difference," Jensen said of the game.

After tonight's win, the Comets now lead the Western Conference with 18 points.

The Comets will hit the road starting Friday to face the Lake Erie Monsters in Cleveland, Ohio at the Quicken Loans Arena. The 7:30 p.m. EST match-up will be the first of two meetings for the teams this season. Last season, the Comets went 3-1-0-0 when visiting the Monsters and 5-2-0-1 overall.

The Comets will return to The AUD on Wednesday, November 12 to battle the Chicago Wolves, a team that has been closely trailing the Comets position in the Western Conference.
